Left little for the imagination. The plot of this focuses on one singular bus through their route and the people who share the journey. I guess I was expecting more about different types of buses.

First sentence: Bus rolls. Busy street. First stop, people meet. Trucks honk, taxis swerve. City park, road curves.
Premise/plot: A boy goes on a bus ride in the city. What does he see? What does he hear?
My thoughts: This book is simple. How simple is simple? Two words per page. You might think it's impossible for any story to emerge from just two words per page, yet, the simple text becomes a poem of sorts. I also like the bold colors of the illustrations. This one is definitely much better than the "Wheels on the Bus."

This simple board book invites the reader on a bus ride around the city. People meet up as they get on board, and then embark on a trip through the city. They both see and hear the city in its taxis, curved park roads, wailing sirens and more. All of this is told with a very minimum of text and very bold, colorful illustrations.
I really appreciated this board book for its accessibility to the very youngest of book readers. We're encouraged to read even to our babies and this book is a perfect fit to that purpose. The colors are very bold but not to an intensity that would overstimulate a baby. The text is simple and written in a nice rhyming cadence. This would be a great choice for those looking for a book to start reading with their babies.

My bus-obsessed toddler was not as much a fan of this as other books. School Bus by Donald Crews is his favorite. He prefers more realistic looking busses, I guess, and exclusive focus on the bus, not the happenings around it?

This brightly colored, bustling picture book explores the sights and experiences of riding a bus in the city. While the location is vague, the pace and noises of the bus as it travels through traffic will be recognizable even to very young children. Part of the book’s narrative concerns the people one can meet on public transit or while one waits for the bus. The loud noises and unexpected jolts that riders of public transit can experience are also touched on, and the bright, sharp shapes of city life are set down in loud greens, reds, and yellows. This book would be a good one to read in two languages to one or two children, or for a young child to take with them to look at when traveling outside the house. The book lends itself to sound effects. While minor translation differences are notable (the English text says “hugs and kisses” when the child embraces a dog, while the Spanish text says just “hugs”), the spirit of both simple stories is the same.
