Adorable! Nyle is a the youngest dragon at the mountain and so he's set to the task of finding the missing human Prince Leon by the Elder dragon. I really liked Nyle's innocence here, he's 300 years old but very naive. Leon has his own troubles but I love how he treats Nyle and their interactions are sweet but there's a nice heat to it as well. This gave me the payoff that I was missing in Stealing the Dragon and it gives me high hopes for when Tori, Nyle's younger brother, comes of age. This is the first Mell Eight book that I've read with sex scenes and it is nice and spicy. I like.
I enjoyed the secondary characters, Nyle's parents Toel and Gail especially. Getting more background on them and their relationship with each other and with Nyle was something that I really liked. I also enjoyed seeing how age affected each dragon's personality. This was fun.

I appreciate this kind of tale, where the sex is light and despite the characteristic of love at first sight, it doesn't feel too forced since it's the nature of fairy tale.
I find the world of dragon and their hoards to be intriguing. I'm so amused with the way Nyle keep referring Leon as his "pretty". It's such a cute endearment. There are some actions too, with Nyle and Leon investigating the sinister surrounding Leon's father, the King. So yep, in overall, it's quite an enjoyable story.

An interesting fairy tale style read.
I enjoyed meeting Nyle and Leon although I can’t say I felt much romance or chemistry between them. But I did enjoy the story and I’m looking forward to the next instalment.
An entertaining read and a nice intro into this world.
ETA I think I actually enjoy this one more after reading the third book. Watching Ana'gail, An'tatoel and An'nanyle now I know about Tori just makes them more fun lol.
ETA Definitely improves after reading the rest of this series.

Ok, as always I wasn't able to get my act together and actually read this series in order, but that didn't make a bit of difference in my enjoyment.
I like dragon stories, a lot. Mell Eight has written some very cute, fun and interesting dragon stories.
Nyle might be 300 years old, but he's still a spring chicken in the dragon world, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a very important job to do. He needs to find Prince Leon and bring him back to the castle for the humans.
Well, things aren't quite as easy as they seem, he finds Leon pretty quickly and Leon certainly enjoyed being found...but intrigue , magi, werewolves, eccentric mothers and crazy dads are at work and have to be dealt with.
The side characters are fun and the story was quick action packed and interesting. Nyle was a typical dragon and wanted his hoard and his pretty safe and happy and shiny, and Leon is happy to oblige him.

I really enjoy the world Mell has built, the lore is beautifully brought to the surface with out a ton of info dumping.

An'nanyle the dragon, the youngest of his kind, is sent on a mission by the Eldest dragon at the request of the human King to find his third son Leon, who has gone missing after a trip to investigate strange happenings among the wolves. When he finds him, he hears a differing tale, after taking to Leon immediately. Leon is very pretty, you see, and Nyle wants him for his hoard -- a request Leon's wolf takes only too well. It is a strange match, a dragon and a wolf. For the most part, the two shifter species stay away from one another, but the romance is equally advantageous to both and certainly makes Nyle happy; Leon, who has been masquerading in the city as a whore has a lot he wants to teach Nyle about sex, especially when he learns that the dragons don't normally have sex at all and Nyle doesn't even understand what it is!
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I had differing feelings at different parts of the story. At first, I wasn't much sure of it -- they jump into bed right away and Leon's wolf seems to mate pretty quickly, but then as more of the world unfolded and the two actually had a mission and a mystery to investigate I started to enjoy it much more and the mating part of the story was pretty understated. That leads to much more of a world-based story than a romance, because the coming together as a couple is out of the way pretty quickly and they then work as a solid team with no internal obstacles to their relationship. I would have preferred a little bit of more romance spread throughout the story, but I also got caught up in the story and the dragon's efforts to set right the kingdom.
I think that there were some issues here that might have bothered me more (esp. the quick romance) that I was able to overlook because of the tone of the story. It is lighthearted but not totally without serious content. I like that -- it reminded me a bit of the movie Ella Enchanted, which is a movie that deals with a serious subject in a totally oddball and sometimes ridiculously funny way. While not totally overstated like that movie, this story did have it's funny and quirky moments and the goofiness of Nyle (who can't stop staring at his pretty and talking about his hoard) gave me a few laughs. Leon, who doesn't share part in Nyles POV of the story, was less complete to me. Those few funny parts kept much of my interest during the story. I always like shifter stories where the characters, while in human form, show so much of their animal nature. Leon does that as well, but mores Nyle, who often acts like a typically mythical dragon would, obsessing over his hoard, sometimes acting a bit dense, and constantly envisioning his favorite pretty (Leon) dressed up in all his other pretties (his jewels). It makes for a often interesting point of view on the world around him, especially as there are rather serious things happening in the world, but Nyle has a different perspective. I can see that that was done very purposefully and it makes sense from the POV of Nyle.
The dragons, while definitely having similarities insofar as protecting their hoard and such go, are surprisingly different in personality, so I will be interested to see who the second story is about and if it will differ much from this story. I would like to see the story told in a different way. Maybe if the POV character has less of a one track mind (and not always to sex, lol) then there might be more time in the story for lulls between action and therefore more time for the central characters to get to know each other better over time, instead of right at the beginning. I think that was my biggest problem with the story, and might be a turnoff for many readers. The other was the ending, which I did feel left out quite a bit of what the story was building up to (hardly any of the action and no face-off with the enemy at all). It seemed over rather quickly with a few things unanswered, though hopefully that is because this is the first of a series.
Still, an enjoyable story that gave me a few laughs. I still really enjoy Mell Eight's writing. I first read her Cinderella-themed Fairy Tale story as part of Less Than Three Press' serials and enjoyed it quite a bit. I'll be looking forward to whatever she publishes in the future.

Nyle, a young dragon, was ordered to find Prince Leon, the third son of the human king. It turned out, finding him was very easy. Understanding why the king pretended his son to be missing was another matter. That Leon was a pretty man that fitted well to his hoard didn't harm. So what if Leon turned out to have changed into a werewolf.
I like how the author highlights the concept of hoard and pretty among the dragons and werewolves.

Well, the wolf devoured the dragon in this story, but in a really nice way, and the dragon liked it A LOT.
Nyle was a sweet and innocent dragon, smart and like all dragons, an hoarder. Leon the running prince, was cunning and sweet. Together they were so cute that I wished the book was longer. The sex scenes were a bonus, but not the crucial part of the plot.

Cute idea, but poorly written

Rating: 5/10
PROS:
- A dragon and a wolf together is a fun pairing and one that I haven’t seen before.
- The dragons amuse me: that they are so obsessed with their hoards of “pretties,” that they have such limited understanding of human emotions, and that their sense of time is so different than their human counterparts’.
CONS:
- The writing is simplistic. Sparse descriptions, very little emotional buildup, momentous occurrences related in a few paragraphs, and language that is laughably silly at times: “he knew that Leon was about to be flattened by dragon-style anger.” There’s also an abundance of telling and not much showing. Example: “When Leon began speaking again, Nyle could hear the breaks in his voice that told of pain and suffering even though his words seemed perfunctory.” We don’t even get to hear what’s said here.
- Even in period pieces, I find antiquated language annoying. Here’s an example of some dialogue that made me roll my eyes: “I have had much success. I return to the humans at dusk to pursue the knowledge gained during this morn’s toil.”
Overall comments: This story is quite different from the third installment in the series, Stealing the Dragon, which I read first. That one has no sex, and this one has multiple scenes early on. I did think the writing in Stealing the Dragon was better than the writing here, so it appears as though the author is improving with each story she writes. This year (2020) I am working my way through the many audiobooks and paperbacks that I have stored in my tbr pile. This novella ,which is part of this huge pile, is surprisingly lovely. Dragons, wolves, magi, a battle and love, all delivered through a perfect narration. The story has a fairytale feel to it that makes it a pleasure to listen to. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Genuinely some of the worst prose I have seen in a long time, including fanfiction. Actually it's been years since I've even seen fanfic this bad, lol. Weird old-timey speech for no reason, characters reacting weirdly, the most unsexy smut scenes I've ever seen (at one point semen is referred to as "goo" lol). This series gets a lot of great reviews and I have no idea how or why.

I was interested in the idea of dragon/werewolf romance, but this book left me ultimately unimpressed.
The level of insta-love is shocking, even for what it is. I found the writing wooden, the plot lacking, and the sex scenes inaccurate at best.
Even if you're just reading it for the smut, you're better off finding something else.

An’nanyle (Nyle) is the dragon tasked with finding the human prince, Leon. But, Nyle discovers that things have been kept from the dragon Elders, as he is swept away by the young prince, who he wants as his pretty.
This is a very enjoyable fantasy, with its combination of dragons, wolves, magi and humans. Nyle is a very innocent, three hundred year old dragon. When he is tasked with finding the human prince, he is not happy to be taken from his pretties. But, he finds a pretty that he wants even more. Leon may be a prince, but his situation keeps him from returning home. With Nyle, he can be himself and together they uncover the secrets that the human King is hiding; that will bring the humans, wolves and dragons together to fight a common foe.
Well, this is a well written story that has good world building, great characters and an enjoyable storyline. Nyle and Leon are great characters who pull you into the story and keep you reading. Nyle is not quite your typical dragon, because although he loves his pretties and his hoard, he likes to do things his own way and he is the first dragon to have sex in hundreds of years! Leon is a werewolf and his wolf wants Nyle as well as his human side, but I don’t really think it is in the instant mates’ sense, more like both wolf and human like what they see and they corrupt the innocent dragon all too well .
I enjoyed learning about Nyle and Leon’s world and we learn about the by-play between the species and some of the background about each of species. The characters are charming and the interaction between them all was great and I loved the fact that all the personalities are so different; two of the supporting characters that I thought were great were Nyle’s hatch mother Gail and maybe (complicated) father Toel. The storyline has plenty of action and humor (Nyle and his pretties), but it also has plenty of snuggles as well, we get some hot sex and see a dragon and wolf fall in love quite quickly.
I have to recommend this to those who love fantasy, shifters whether their dragons or wolves, who enjoy a touch of danger, humor, hot sex, pretties and a happy ending.

3.5 stars The premise of this was interesting and the multilayered plot was done well in this novella length story. We got some pretty complex world building done in a way that avoided info-dumping, and even an epic battle. A great love story (albeit a little 'insta) with a side order of Dragon-human-werewolf political and cultural dynamics. Super enjoyable.
I also enjoyed that the author didn't really try to humanize Nyle. The book didn't try to present Nyle and Leon's relationship in human terms. Leon was Nyle's pretty and part of his hoard, that type of possessiveness would be over-the-top and inappropriate from a human. But from a Dragon, it's the biggest honor there is, complete devotion. And there's still equality, if you asked Leon I'm sure that he would say Nyle is part of his hoard.
The audio version was done very well, narrated by Albert Black. Almost all the dragons had different voices, all done well. The humans had a bit of a Scottish brogue which was totally fine with me. I think the only time I didn't like a voice was when Nyle had his one freak out, I know it was supposed to be all deep and powerful but it was a tad much for me. But this totally worked as an audiobook.
I'm excited for book 2, Breaking the Shackles, and that I was right about the new MC's!

A delightful, quick read in a very imaginative and vivid universe. My only nitpick would be that everything seemed to happen quickly, over an extremely short period of time, where I might have liked to see a bit more depth in the unfolding of events and relationship building. I just loved the shifters, from dragon to wolf, and the sense of family amongst the dragons. Too often we have protagonists that are missing one or both parents, and Nyle had both, however distantly he might "pretend" the familial bond might be. That was delightful.
I enjoyed this story and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.

Meh. I tried. The narrative is very telly, the characters are barely a note in itself, and the romance was so rushed that I might have missed it. Plus the Toel speaking as if he's a shitty version of Shakespeare was the nail in the coffin.

Mell Eight brings the heat with the start of her new series “The Dragon’s Hoard”. Finding the Wolf also has the main fantasy breeds in the same world: dragons, wolves, humans, and of course the magi.
Eight drops us into a 19th century looking world where the ladies sell their wares and pick-pockets run through the streets looking for marks. Servants still have to walk through side streets so they are not seen by the elite. Eight’s descriptions of the buildings made me feel much like Nyle did while he was walking: ick! (laugh)
There are three “territories”: town, where the humans live; the dragon’s area; and the The Wilds where all other species live. No one really cares for a species that isn’t like them. Lord Dragon Nyle is sent to town to find the Third Prince of the Human Court who is missing.
Luckily Leon is easy to find and Nyle is lobbed into another mystery. Who is telling the truth and who is lying becomes of the utmost importance.
Then there is the minor issue of Leon himself. There are secrets hidden within him and he is a very pretty gem of a man. You know how dragons love their pretties. Leon is no exception.
Eight’s descriptive writings guarantee readers a good time during the romance between Nyle and Leon. I thought of fanning myself during these scenes - they are that hot!
The mystery is solid and simple as this is a novella. Eight moves the story quickly and with lots of movement. I will admit there was a twist at the end I did not see coming, but it completely makes sense for the next book in the series.
I think my favorite character is Nyle’s Hatch Mother, Gail. She is funny, intrusive, and alludes to an interesting back story. Eight shows the extremes between being raised in a healthy environment versus an abandoned one.
Finding the Wolf is a fun fast romp. Nyle and Leon are a great match. Eight has created a world you want to visit again and again.

Servants still have to walk through side streets so they are not seen by the elite. Eight’s descriptions of the buildings made me feel much like Nyle did while he was walking: ick! (laugh)

“Finding the Wolf” by Mell Eight centers around the dragon Nyle (An’nanyle) whose quest to locate Leon, the youngest son of the human king, results in far more than he could ever dream of. Leon, having escaped one kind of captivity, may have to decide if he can cope with an arrangement that will take away his freedom for good.
This gay paranormal tale is the first book in the ‘Dragon’s Hoard’ series and introduces an intriguing world that contains dragons, werewolves, humans, and other beings. I love seeing the contrast between the relative youngster, Nyle, and his older fellow dragons; and the idea of considering a being to be a “pretty” and part of a hoard is a delightfully novel concept to me. The dragons’ names used an imaginative system and I was entertained by analyzing the shortened versions.
Those who are bothered by “insta-love” tales will not appreciate this story, but I liked the bond that formed quickly between the two main characters and it was fun to see them interact in all of their aspects. There are multiple reminders that perception is in the eye of the beholder, and although many of the horrific aspects of negative actions are quickly glossed over, one can’t deny that the dragons can act pretty quickly when they set their minds to it!
As is usual for this author, just enough of this novel world was shared to pique one’s interest, and there are multiple dangling threads in this quick read, but I’m reassured by the knowledge that this is the first novel in the series, so I expect there to be more revelations in subsequent stories and I look forward to reading them.

Dragons collect and protect their hoard refusing to give even one part of it away until Nyle met Leon and all bets were off.
This was an incredible wild ride from start to finish. I can’t wait to read the next book in The Dragon’s Hoard series.

I love stories with dragon shifters, so I was pretty interested in this after I read the blurb. We are introduced into a world where dragons, werewolves, humans and magi live. There isn’t a lot of information about things initially so I felt the world-building was lacking a bit. Nyle is the youngest dragon, so he is sent to retrieve a human prince Leon who is reportedly lost. However, once he finds the prince, things take a turn. From there the story took a lot of twists and turns. I wasn’t that interested in the overarching plot as I wanted to see more of the relationship between Nyle and Leon. The ending felt abrupt to me, and even though there was a HFN, I really wanted more. I think there might be more in the series, so it would be interesting to see more of the other races in the story.

I received a copy of Finding the Wolf by Mell Eight via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. I enjoy the author’s whimsical worldbuilding and new takes on old tropes. I especially liked the mix of paranormal creatures in this book, including dragons, werewolves, and more. The social structure of the dragons is entertaining and the source of some amusement, mostly from one dragon I hope we see again. There is a lot of conflict in this world and its resolution provides for a satisfying ending while perhaps laying the ground for the next book in the series. I also appreciate the author’s ability to write both light and more serious stories. This is definitely on the lighter end despite the conflicts.

This book is the classic Mell Eight combination of sweet, weird, and sexy. Nyle is a dragon - the youngest of his kind. He has been tasked to find a missing prince. He finds the prince quickly - but also finds so much more. Leon is the missing prince - but things are more than what they seem.
Meeting Leon opens Nyle's eyes to so much - up until that point he is a pretty typical dragon, focused only on his hoard and scientific experiments. Meeting Leon changes everything. I loved the steps Nyle takes to not only keep Leon safe but to make sure they can be together. They are truly too adorable together.
This is an updated version of a previously published book and the first part of a series - but it is totally worth the read or re-read.
