Only the Doom Stones can save Middengard – but how many must die first?
Alice’s quest for the Second Stone has failed. Without it, Toby will be trapped in Middengard forever. Seemingly forsaken, Toby has joined the ranks of the military elite, determined to fight to the death.
But the game isn’t over yet. As Alice and Josh take a dangerous route to the heart of Middengard, their task is daunting: they must outwit Josh’s father and the woman who controls him – Mathilde, wielder of dark magic.
It’s impossible to defeat dark magic – or is it? When Alice is summoned to a meeting with the Gods, she finally learns the true power of the Doom Stones. As Skellstor faces a siege that threatens to destroy all within its walls, will Alice arrive in time to save them?
The third book of the Middengard Sagas, Stone Wielder brings Alice’s adventures with the Doom Stones to a thrilling close.
June Wilson is a Melbourne-based writer who sometimes dreams about her childhood in Yorkshire, when lots of interesting things happened but nothing as interesting as finding Middengard. She has been writing novels since she was nine (when no-one took any notice) and has read her way through entire (small) libraries. Having pursued a life-long career in finance (and almost seen the error of her ways) she now writes whenever she can. The Middengard Sagas is a middle-grade fantasy series, with Books 1 to 5 published to date. Her new series, The Chronicles of Albion, is aimed at older readers.
I loved this series so much that I read all three books without a gap in between! Awesome fantasy, with the real-world bits mostly set in Australia which of course gets bonus points from me. I'm not hugely into epic fantasy/other worlds but I found this really easy to follow, for the most part (I kept getting a tad confused about Ellie and Tom's generation and who was related to whom, but that was probably just me being a bit slow, haha)
Loved Josh by the way. Hilarious and awesome. He and Gawain made a fab pair.
This is a great ending to the story about the children, their children and how the bad came with the good. There's sadness of loosing a couple of characters and the last 40% felt rushed but they made sense. Very good writing. In a sense you can finish reading the story on this book, but I saw there are at least two more books. The way things worked out and secrets were revealed. It was satisfying.
A terrific end to this series. I thoroughly enjoyed it and read it at almost one sitting. The resolution of the story relating to Alice's parents was satisfying and I think the characterisation of Adrian was sufficiently nuanced to prevent him being an all-out villain. I'd like to think there will be more Middengard Sagas in the future.
Stone Wielder is gripping. I think I liked it best of all three volumes in the Middengaard Sagas. The story is complex, but the storytelling is strong, with plenty of rewards. The characters have continued to develop so anyone who enjoyed meeting them in the first two volumes can expect to find new depths in this volume. A great read.
Wonderful! The final book in the trilogy did not disappoint! I highly recommend this trilogy which is full of great characters and wonderful adventures. Hopefully there will be a fourth book one day - I miss the characters already!
