I first thought 7 volumes were too much for this kind of story. But so far, the author could still keep up with what they want to write. Hands down my most favourite Chinese novels of 2017.
Quiet, clever, and beautifully layered. I especially loved how the story balances romance with family politics, survival, and the Tingyun’s gradual growth. Nothing feels rushed, and the payoff comes from watching all those little pieces finally fall into place.
