Do you know Jesus as He really is? We can speak in abstracts all day long. We can ponder who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him. But he wants our confession. He wants to know, “Who do you say that I AM?” How we answer defines our lives both now and forever. This 8-week study in the “I AM” statements of Jesus will help women move from knowing about Him to knowing Him personally. Guiding them through significant questions Jesus asks in the Gospels—and the answers He himself provides—it will help Becky Harling has years of experience as a Bible teacher and women’s ministry leader. She empathizes with women and knows how to make Scripture come alive. Who Do You Say that I AM ? will draw women deep into the Word for a true encounter with Christ, helping them become more confident, calm, and courageous in the faith.
BECKY HARLING has a degree in Biblical Literature and is a sought-after speaker and Bible teacher at women's conferences and retreats. Through her writing, Becky creatively combines deep biblical insight with her powerful testimony and the stories of other women. Her life experiences as a pastor's wife, parent of four adult children, grandmother of five grandchildren, women's ministries director, survivor of breast cancer and sexual abuse bring depth to her message. She brings a message of hope and healing that is refreshingly transparent. Becky is a gifted communicator with a passion for helping women find hope, healing, freedom, and ultimately life transformation through Jesus Christ. She is the author of Rewriting Your Emotional Script, Freedom From Performing, The 30 Day Praise Challenge, The 30 Day Praise Challenge for Parents, and How to Listen So People Will Talk.
This is an in depth Bible Study which examines the I AM statements of Jesus. I loved the format. It is divided into 8 weeks. Each of the 8 weeks features one of the I AM statements of Jesus. Each of the weeks is further broken down into 5 days of meaningful study.
Throughout this Bible study, you will be encouraged to read, write, memorize and reflect on various passages of scripture. The author asks questions that are thought provoking and soul searching. Ample space is provided to record your thoughts and answers.
I think week 7 was my favorite part of the study, as it focused on worrying. As we are living through the unforgettable and highly unpredictable year of 2020, there is a multitude of things and circumstances that cause us to worry. I was reminded to focus less on the problems and more on the Problem Solver... just what I needed!
Who Do You Say That I AM?: A Fresh Encounter for Deeper Faith by Becky Harling is an eight-week Bible study reflecting on the "I am" statements of Jesus found throughout the Gospels. Becky Harling is a pastor's wife and women's speaker with a degree in Biblical Literature. Becky has survived both breast cancer and sexual assault, and uses her personal stories as a message of hope and healing.
This Bible study is eight weeks long, and each week is broken up into five days. This study can be done individually or as a group, and is great for women of all ages in all walks of life. I did one week a night, since some of the days are pretty short, and really enjoyed it! I wrote in a notebook instead of the book in case I ever want to do this study again (I'm pretty sure I will want to do it again next year!).
This Bible study is very solid. It shows you that the Bible is very clear about defining who Jesus Christ the Son of the living God is, His character, and that it’s only through the true Biblical Jesus Christ you can be saved. Here are the contents:
Week 1: Who Do You Say That I am? Matthew 16:15 I Am He. John 4:26
Week 2: Do you still not understand? Mark 8:17-18 I Am the Bread of Life. John 6:35
Week 3: Why are you so afraid? Matthew 8:26, Mark 4:40 I Am the Good Shepherd. John 10:11
Week 4: What do you want me to do for you? Mark 10:51 I Am the Light. John 8:12
Week 5: Do you believe that I am able to do this? Matthew 9:28 I Am the Resurrection and the Life. John 11:25
Week 6: Do you want to get well? John 5:6 I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. John 14:6
Week 7: Can you add to your life by worrying? Matthew 6:27, Luke 12:25 I am the Vine. John 15:5
Week 8: Has no one returned to give praise to God? Luke 17:18 I Am the Living One— The First and The Last. Revelation 1:17
Each week has sections titled: Explore (where you make observations of the verses or chapter you just read), Reflect (where you answer questions about the verses you just read, or reflect on your personal growth), a memory verse, and a praise section that includes a song to look up and listen to. Each day opens up with a quote, then some story from Becky about herself or someone she knows. I really enjoyed reading some of the stories and hearing how God worked in other people's lives. I was also introduced to a lot of new songs with the praise section.
This is the first Bible study I've done by Moody Publishers. I'm looking forward to checking out the others they have to offer. Have you done any of their studies? Which one is your favorite?

Who do you say I am- Becky Harling This is a netgalley review of a christian bible study book. It is subtitled 'a fresh encounter for deeper faith' and contains a series of 8 weekly studies based on the 7 'I am' statements in John's Gospel and 1 additional 'I am' statement in Revelation.
This book is aimed at a more mature christian, but would still be relevant to any reader. Essentially, as with most bible studies, you get out only what you are prepared to put in.
Each weekly study consists of 5 days work, the last day tying up the thoughts of the week. Each week was dedicated to one of the 'I am' statements and was juxtaposed with another scripture which was used to expound the statement more clearly.
I particularly enjoyed the mention of relevant songs each day, to aid in worship. All of these I found easily on Youtube.
I very much enjoyed this bible study, finding it well written and the theology sound. I myself was challenged by some of the studies.
I was especially affected by the use of Psalm 23 to illuminate the statement, 'I am the good shepherd' and then relating it to encountering fear and insecurity in our lives.
This is one of the best bible studies I have encountered for a while.
Want to dig deep in a study about Jesus this Lent? Here's the perfect book for you.
This book is a true Bible study. It's similar to a workbook, because there are several scriptures and many questions to help you dig deep into Jesus' "I Am" statements. The author also shares a brief devotion that contains her personal stories, which are engaging.
This is an eight-week study, which will fit nicely into Lent and spill over a bit. Each day is structured with a brief devotion and/or an explanation of the scripture, an invitation to Explore with further study, a section to help you Reflect with personal questions, a Praise section which often includes song selections, and a Memorize prompt to help you keep God's Word in your heart.
I enjoyed this deep method of study. I also enjoyed Becky Harling's honesty and vulnerability in her stories. She talks about how God strengthened her faith after childhood abuse and helped her deal with insecurities and ministry challenges. Even though this is primarily a Bible study, I felt like I got to know her. The primary focus of this book is knowing Jesus better, and she helps us do that through this study.
This is one of my favorite quotes from the book:
A little bit of Jesus was not enough. I wanted all of him, and I wanted him to have all of me. My life circumstances didn't change, but I sure did. I became confident in Christ. My doubts settled down. My fears quieted, and my faith flourished.
Netgalley gave me a free review copy of this book.
This book is an 8-week Bible study, and each week had 5 days of study. Each week, the author explored a question that Jesus asked and an "I am" statement Jesus made at some point that she feels answers the question. She started with a personal story, then the verses to read with some background information. She then asked questions about the reading, if you've experienced something similar, and brought in related verses. She provided a verse to memorize and a praise song to listen to.
I liked some parts of the book, but the quality seemed inconsistent to me. For example, the week on "I Am the Resurrection and the Life" was about how God will give us new dreams when our dreams fail and how God can fix the messes in our lives. There's amazing power and hope in the actual promise of resurrection, so why not talk about that? On page 231, she provided verses that show "how you are of great value to God" but were about how God loves us. One can love worthless things, so I was baffled as to why she used these verses rather than ones actually talking about how God views us as valuable.
And on page 174, she said that "the priest was to continuously burn fragrant incense...(Ex. 30:1, 7-8)." But those verses say they offered incense in the morning and the evening, not continuously. She said the incense was made through crushing flowers, but the mix was actually described as "fragrant spices" and contained resins (Ex. 30:34). She then suggested that "the crushing of our soul produces a fragrance that rises up as a sweet aroma to God..." Um, incense is symbolic of prayer (Psalm 141:2, Revelation 5:8). Not sure how the imagery of God allowing our souls to be crushed and burned in a fire was supposed to be comforting. Sounds more like hell.
Week 1: Who Do You Say That I am? Matthew 16:15 I Am He. John 4:26
Week 2: Do you still not see or understand? Mark 8:17-18 I Am the Bread of Life. John 6:35
Week 3: Why are you so afraid? Matthew 8:26, Mark 4:40 I Am the Good Shepherd. John 10:11
Week 4: What do you want me to do for you? Mark 10:51 I Am the Light. John 8:12
Week 5: Do you believe that I am able to do this? Matthew 9:28 I Am the Resurrection and the Life. John 11:25
Week 6: Do you want to get well? John 5:6 I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. John 14:6
Week 7: Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:27, Luke 12:25 I am the Vine. John 15:5
Week 8: Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner? Luke 17:18 I Am the Living One— The First and The Last. Revelation 1:17

The incredibly rich, wisdom-packed and in-depth Moody Bible Studies for Women have a new addition to their series! Written by Becky Harling, the new 8-week Bible study is entitled “Who Do You Say That I Am: A Fresh Encounter for Deeper Faith”. In this study, we explore some of Jesus’ most impacting statements - his I AM statements.
The I Am statements of Jesus include:
I Am He I Am the Bread of Life I Am the Good Shepherd I Am the Light I Am the Resurrection and the Life I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life I Am the Vine I Am the Living One - The First and The Last
In each week of the study, Becky guides us to into deeper learning about a particular statement. Each daily lesson opens with a brief introductory reading, and then contains sections to help us: Explore, Reflect, Memorize, and Praise.
One significant way this study is different from most of the other titles in the series is how the author presents fewer of her own thoughts and insights, and instead asks more questions of the reader. This took a bit of getting used to, but as time went on and I continued through the study I actually really enjoyed this method of diving in and asking myself some tough questions that only I could answer. Because of this format, it is perhaps based more on what each individual will bring to it and less on what they take away from it.
Another of my favorite features of “Who Do You Say That I Am?” is the daily Praise section... Most days include a specifically chosen song to listen to at the end of the lesson, and from these suggestions I have added some incredible music selections to my playlists! While I am not a fan of every single suggestion, it is overall a wonderful way to incorporate some new music into your routine that you may never have otherwise listened to. Music also really helps to bring the daily study concept to life with even more impact.
In the end, this new addition to the Moody Bible Studies for Women contains everything that I’ve come to expect from the series; a powerful topic, thought-provoking questions, insightful illustrations, helpful study aides, and the opportunity for much Scripture-based reflection. If you have enjoyed other titles from this series, or if the topic of Jesus’ “I Am” statements resonates with you, I highly encourage you to find your own copy of “Who Do You Say That I Am?” today.

Welcome to Who Do You Say That I AM?, an eight week Bible study by Becky Harling. I knew this was a study I wanted to experience as soon as I read the title. Jesus’ question to His disciples “Who do you say that I am?” has always made me pause. He was giving them an opportunity to think through what they knew about Him and make a declaration of faith. This Bible study gives us a chance to do the same thing. It examines what Jesus said about Himself in eight I AM statements, all recorded by His disciple John in the New Testament of the Bible.
Harling has a comfortable style of writing as she sets up her lessons (5/week) in a way that encourages the reader to delve into Scriptures looking for meaning based on the original Hebrew words. She guides the reader in the process so it is a facet of the study: it is not overwhelming or overly pedantic. The reader is always encouraged to apply the truths to her own life. There are practical tips as well, such as compiling an emergency Scripture kit for the tough times. She also emphasizes praise songs and prayer in each lesson. Each lesson is put in a cultural context including a Bible story or a recounting of personal experiences in contemporary settings.
Who Do You Say That I AM? will get you involved in really examining what Jesus says about Himself. If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus yet, this could be the book that helps you understand the claims of the Bible (God’s Word) and make a decision. If you are already a follower of Jesus, this book is a great way to learn more about Him and turn your focus on Him moment by moment as you make your way through each day.
I would like to extend my thanks to netgalley.com and to Moody Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
In Who Do You Way That I AM: A Fresh Encounter For Deeper Faith, Becky Harling invites us to travel with her on an 8-week Bible Study of the I AM statements of Jesus Christ. She believes that as Christians, it is important for us to truly know – to fully understand – the person who we have placed our faith in and entrusted our earthly and eternal lives to. What better place to start than by examining the I AM claims of Jesus Himself?
Over the course of 8 weeks, through 5 days of guided homework, we’ll explore Scripture and reflect on questions that will clarify for us, once and for all, who Jesus Christ really is and what He has done for us. We’ll have the opportunity to memorize key Scriptures and to praise him each day through recommended worship songs.
Who Do You Say That I AM is a beautifully written and designed study that will deepen your faith and help you to experience your Savior in a fresh way.

This is an 8 week bible study that you can do on your own time. It’s designed to be done Monday-Friday for 8 weeks as each week has 5 days of study. However I’ve just been doing it daily, skipping a day here or there as needed and its’ worked well for me that way.
The book is meant to be written in but I prefer not to do that so I can pass the book on to someone else to enjoy afterwards so I just thought my answers out loud.
It’s nice to see a bible study about a different topic than I generally see (such as specific bible books or the proverbs 31 woman).
How it Works Each day you look up bible verses and read them, then answer questions or take notes. (Explore and Reflect) After the lesson, you are sometimes given a bible verse to memorize (Memorize) and always a song to listen to. (Praise)
Topics are: Who Do You Say That I Am? Do You Still Not Understand? Why Are You So Afraid? What Do You Want Me To Do For You? Do You Believe I Am Able to Do This? Do You Want to Get Well? Can You Add to Your Life By Worrying? Has No One Returned to Give Praise to God?
This is one of the better bible studies I’ve come across and I’ve enjoyed working my way through it. Definitely recommended if you want to get to know Jesus better.

If you are interested in a deeper study of Jesus than this is the perfect book for you.
This book is a bible study workbook. There are so many wonderful scriptures and so many meaningful questions that help you dig deeper into Gods word. My favorite part was Jesus’ “ I Am” statement. This is an 8 weeks study so each day is structured with a devotional and explanation of the scripture and then a section with reflection questions. There is also a praise section and a memorization prompt.
I enjoyed Becky Harling’s style of writing and the study she put together. I connected with her story of child abuse and her insecurities. The focus of this book is to know Jesus better.
In the book Who Do You Say that I AM?, author Becky Harling, takes the reader on journey to discover who we believe Jesus is, not just the superficial quick responses. Answer the question that Jesus asked His disciples – Who do you say I AM? Harling connects us with the I AM statements of Jesus, helping us discover our response to who is Jesus. I would highly recommend this thought provoking book to anyone for self-reflection and a challenge. I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This Bible study was one of the best that I have ever come across. Harling guides her readers through all of Jesus’ I Am statements and shows how they personally apply to all of her readers (God’s children). This study goes deep into the history of The culture of Jesus’ time and allows the reader to dive deep into their understanding of him and their faith. I will definitely be picking up another Harling study soon!
This book is so encouraging and refreshing! It dives deep into the truths and promises of Jesus in a way that is so unique from other studies I have done. This is the best study I have done in a very long time. I definitely recommend!
I was given a copy of this study in exchange for an honest review. This is the first Bible study I've ever completed on my own, and it did not disappoint. Although it took me longer than the prescribed eight weeks to complete, it brought me a lot of clarity in my relationship with the Lord. I found it encouraging and challenging and would recommend it to anyone, no matter the state of their faith. Not only was the study useful, but author Becky Harling is so genuine and personal. I was a member of the social media launch team of this study and after finishing it I reached out to her with comments and questions. She has been so gracious and kind and you can tell she genuinely cares about her readers.
If your hope is to draw closer to God then this is the read for you. Becky Harling starts each chapter with a question that Jesus asked, follows this with an appropriate 'I am' statement and with a fair portion of bible study opens your mind and heart to enable you to learn more of the truth about who Jesus is. We are left each day with a spiritual song enabling us to draw nearer to His presence. The final chapter explains how to move forwards with the teaching and I found this chapter very inspirational. I highly recommend this book which I was given by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
