Vader sets his sights on a Jedi who's avoided Order 66…a Jedi Master who's long lived in seclusion…a Jedi more powerful than any Vader has faced before…
Charles Soule is a #1 New York Times-bestselling novelist, comics author, screenwriter, musician, and lapsed attorney. He has written some of the most prominent stories of the last decade for Marvel, DC and Lucasfilm in addition to his own work, such as his comics Curse Words, Letter 44 and Undiscovered Country, and his original novels Light of the Jedi, The Endless Vessel, The Oracle Year and Anyone. He lives in New York.
Darth Vader #3 is an excellent turning point for our Sith’s first mission, showing that the former Jedi Knight has a lot still to learn. Throughout this not only do we get an interesting introduction to Kirak Infil’a, but we also see that Vader’s confidence may be one of his major weaknesses.
A really cool issue, I'm enjoying this new Vader series as the story is actually from a period in the star wars timeline which is interesting and has room to be fleshed out. The art is also fantastic!
Vader arrives upon The Mid-Rim. The Moon of Al'doleem. Here he knows that the Jedi that has avoided Order 66 resides. When Vader encounters him, he tries to force-choke him but the Jedi is much more stronger than he and manages to push him away. The two of them go to war against each other with Vader coming out much more worse for wear than the Jedi.
This issue felt a bit short. Maybe it was due to the fighting action than anything. After all, Vader came seeking to destroy but he also knew it was not entirely going to be easy. This Jedi was much more stronger than he and the Jedi was willing to prove this.
Yet this issue delivered wonderfully. I enjoyed watching Vader get thrashed by the Jedi. It proved that Vader is not entirely as powerful as he wants to be yet. This could change in the next issue but we will definitely have to see.
Lord Vader meets his match against hermit Jedi Master Kirak Infil'a, who has basically has dedicated his entire life to 1:1 combat. Very well done character and I absolutely love him.
It's really cool to see the Anakin to Vader post-op conversion so immediately after his rebirth. He hasn't quite grown into his new robot legs into the (nearly) unstoppable monster he becomes later on.
Super excited to see what happens next! Vader is going to have to lick his wounds and figure out someway to face Kirak. I mean... he already got floor mopped once and when Vader tried to force choke him, Kirak just laughed at him and force pushed him off.
Based off the creativeness and high quality of this comic series so far, I am certain something very unexpected is going to come out of Lord Vader to overcome this currently faced obstacle.
I like that we see how vulnerable Vader is at this point. We even get to see his mechanical leg break. But I feel that Infil'a is too reminiscent of Rahm Kota. He has the same hairstyle and a similar-looking scar even if it's in a different place. His droid also reminds me a bit of Proxy from The Force Unleashed. Really makes me wonder whether this was intentional.
Great book as expected. The expanded universe is even more compelling than the movies...particularly the last two. Vader is the quintessential villain and this graphic novel does not disappoint in portraying that fact. I hope even more “Vader” books are made and published.
#3 "The easy path rarely leads to a worthwhile destination, Arex." - Kirak "... The easy path, however, would allow you to LIVE." - Arex . "Did you do it? Did you kill them?" - Kirak "Yes" - Vader "Are you here to kill me as well?" "Yes" "As I hoped" . [Vader parts the waters, Moses-like] .
As the series goes on it is becoming more interesting. I hope this keeps up. It’s cool that just because Skywalker became Vader he didn’t instantly become all powerful. He has a lot more to experience.
Doubled back to catch up on this Vader Arc and I am glad I did. I don't think I need to justify four stars more than by simply stating these Comics are Vader being a badass again and again. What else could you want?
Master Infil’A seems like a goated character at the moment. Art in this issue proper stepped up especially when Darth Vader was nearly drowning during that trial.
Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017-2018) #3 is a comic book issue written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli. The story takes place after the events of Revenge of the Sith and follows Darth Vader as he seeks to hunt down and kill Jedi who survived Order 66. In this issue, Vader is tasked by the Emperor to recover a lost lightsaber, which leads him to a confrontation with a former Jedi temple guard. The writing is engaging and the artwork is stunning, with detailed and dynamic illustrations that perfectly capture the Star Wars universe. The story also delves deeper into Vader's character, exploring his motivations and his evolving relationship with the Emperor. However, some readers may find the storyline to be complex or the pacing to be slow at times. Overall, I would give Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017-2018) #3 a rating of 4 out of 5 stars, and recommend it for fans of the Star Wars franchise or anyone looking for a well-crafted and visually stunning comic book.
