Get ready for spy gear and spin-kicks. Get ready for danger and daring. Get ready for…
Middle grade author Grant Goodman draws inspiration from what drove his imagination as a kid: a love of comics, cartoons, and video games.
Grant’s magic formula is to take little pieces of what inspires him, and then weave them together to make something that’s all his own. His Agent Darcy & Ninja Steve series is a combination of his first job as a martial arts instructor, the heartfelt friendships in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the imagination of Adventure Time’s landscapes.
Grant enjoys stories that have magic, robots, dragons, ghosts, or vampires, but what he loves most about a great book is when characters gain new skills that help them to become better people. As an author, he finds real value when his readers see characters make progress, grow their friendship circles, feel more secure about their place in the world, and achieve the goals they’ve always dreamed of achieving.
When he’s not busy writing about ninjas, gadgets, special agents, and secret powers, Grant is busy teaching high school English classes in Maryland, reading comics, and cooking up new recipes with his wife.
Agent Darcy & Ninja Steve is his debut book series.
I won a Goodreads copy of Agent Darcy & Ninja Steve in TIGER TROUBLE. Loved it. Five Stars. Passed along my copy to my sister’s grandson. For Christmas, I bought the grandson a copy of ROBOT RUMBLE (and bought an additional copy for me).
After the magic of Tiger Trouble, Robot Rumble was a slight let down. It was confusing early on but did finally gel. The book was good, just not as good as Tiger Trouble.
Best new Character: Augustus the support robot.
Grant Goodman does have an enticing set up for Book 3 (By the way the spine of the books in this series number the books - Robot Rumble has a big ‘2’ on the spine).
Part of the confusion early on (and somewhat later in the book) is the author’s assuming the reader read (and recalls) many things from the first book (Tiger Trouble.) If you’re a new reader to this series, you need to start with Book 1: Tiger Trouble
Much like the first installment, I loved the second novel in the Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve series. Reading these makes me wish I could be as cool as Agent Darcy!! Grant does a great job with these novels - the descriptions are so vivid, I can see the whole story play out in my head. Can't wait for the next one to come out and find out what happens next!
