Sci-Fi and Fantasy Romance Aine Brevenswood is no one until she met Huen Covendane...
Aine's life was little more than insignificant. She was orphaned at a young age in the neighboring kingdom of Glasule and adopted out of convenience by a Zhekan peasant family who needed another pair of hands to help around the home. Aine's days were tedious and uneventful.
Until...
Huen Covendane is a royal cousin of the Zhekan monarchy and he despises his place among his own. The men of Zheka are meant to be warriors, bathed in blood. Huen's lifelong pursuit of knowledge has made him an outcast in his own family and they continue to pressure him to wed and take his place alongside the great warriors of Zheka.
Huen's rebellion against his station not only threatens his own life, but perhaps the lives of the entire kingdom of Zheka. But when Aine Brevenswood comes into his life he must fight to win her affection and save their lives...
Will their forbidden love tear the kingdom apart? Or will they triumph and overcome against all odds?
Fans of Terry Bolryder, Linsey Hall and Jeff Wheeler will love this HOT new series from E.A. James.
This is a standalone story with an HEA and mature themes intended for 18+ audiences.
I loved the story. I thought it was well written and had a nice steady pace to it. I loved when Huen said: “These girls are so boring, it’s all the same! Oh, Huen, how strong you are! Oh, Huen, what big muscles you are! It’s like they’re praising a horse for its fine teeth and build.” It stuck in my head for a while, and it made me smile. The characters Huen and Aine had great chemistry. If they got any hotter they would set the royal library on fire. I hope to keep reading from the author. I have enjoyed all the books I have read from them so far. I find my self wondering what the next story will be, can’t wait to see.
Huen is a male Zhekan and related to royalty. As such he is expected to fight and handsome and marry before he turns 30. Huen doesn't want the normal life of a Zhekan male. His big dream is being able to study and learn. He breaks with all tradition when he refuses to marry at age 30. His mother punishes him by forcing him to do manual labor. One night he loses his temper and runs off to the arena and fights warriors who hurt him badly. Aine claims him as her ward and takes him home to care for. Aine wasn't born a Zhekan but was adopted by a couple when she was found abandoned as a baby. Her adopted parents didn't really show much caring but treated her as a servant. She is allowed to care for Huen as practice for her healing skills. When Huen wakes up, he treats Aine like a servant and acts a total jerk. When he returns to the castle, the queen tells him that Aine did the best healing job she had ever seen. Huen starts to feel bad for the way he treated her. I had some problems with this book. I really disliked how people were judged only by the class they were born into. Many characters were shown to be prejudiced. The men in the story were lacking in maturity. I voluntarily receieved a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
First I should clarify I am a big EA James fan - I normally love her work - not sure what happened with Huen It was an Okay read - don't get me wrong the series has everything romance, suspense, action- Huen just did not work for me - I don't remember the men being so whiny in book one - or maybe I just didn't notice - I can not say for sure but the way Zhekans were portrayed in this book somehow left me feeling lacking? for a better word. I did not like Huen - at all! - I wanted to smack his whiny little @rse just about every page
Now - Aine- Our heroine - that girl has some spit and fire in her and did not hesitate to use it! Absolutely loved her spirit and take no bull attitude
I am looking forward to finding out what is going on - A lot happened in this book outside of Huen and Aine and I really want to know what the queen knows and Aine for that matter and what - spoiler so can't say - just know I am eagerly awaiting book 3!! "I received an ARC at no cost from the author."
This is the second book in the Zhekan series and I really liked it. I liked the fact that it was NOT the same story as book one with different names like some series but a completely different story line. It made me laugh out loud and finish it in one sitting. I enjoyed that it was not love at first sight for Huen and Aine and thought Huen' s quest to injure himself was funny and typical stupid male. Although what is up with mom's in this series. They are all too easy to hate for not recognizing differences from the norm and being arrogant. My honest review is that book 2 is addicting and an easy to read story that made me sad when I reached the end it was so good. Enjoyed reading about the return of characters from book 1.
I did not particularly care for this book. I found it to be all over the place and not very believable. I know it is a fantasy book, but some of the stuff Huen did made him seem like he was about five-years-old. I don't know if more books are coming, but if so hopefully they will be written a little more for grown-ups. There is too much sexual description for the book to be for a younger audience, but the rest of it is a little too fairy-tale like. Trying to get himself killed twice, a couple of days apart, because he is mad, really?
I received a copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary.
Huen has never fitted in, in a land where all men are warriors he wishes to be a scholar. Aire is adopted, abandoned by parents from an enemy realm, an outcast in her new home. Both want change, but neither knows how to get it.
This story is far from smooth sailing for Huen and Aire, there are man complications for them to deal with. The characters in the story are well developed and interesting to read about. I enjoyed reading the book.
This story follow on a few months after the first book and revisits the characters from book one so they need to be read in order.
I received an Advance Copy of this book and this is my honest review
I received an Advance Copy of this book and this is my honest review. The first book didn't answer all questions and this book is the same. The characters were annoying and came across immature. There were a couple of sex scenes, if these were not in this book I would say it is more like a young adult story. I was disappointed with this book it felt unfinished and was left with questions unanswered as with the first book. I feel as though I am reading a different book to everyone else who has written a review for this story!
Thought this is a great book. Loved reading it. A different situation in a way from all the other alien books. Which makes it refreshing to read. It was fun, exciting, suspenseful, and so much more. Instead of being a warrior he wants to learn knowledge. It goes against everything. She is a poor peasant girl. They have a lot to over come. I recommend it. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Huen and Aine don't seem to have a lot in common on the surface. However, they both are living lives that don't fulfill them and are prevented from the path they want to pursue by their society. When they find each other, it is not love at first. liked how Aine stood up for herself. Huen learned to respect Aine and it was an interesting journey. They made a good couple.
I recieved a free advance copy for a review. Like the first book in the series i loved the book. Once again there is two strong leads in the book. The mix of rich and poor is nice. I look forward to the next book the story line follows from book one in to book two and i am dying to know what is going to happen next.
I was hoping this would grow into a more overarching plot line, but connection was minimal and interaction with other characters, like from the previous book, is showing them to be arses. It's still superficial and feeling is flat. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere, so I'm not sure if it will improve in book 3.
Another interesting and intriguing book by E A James. This author has a different outlook on our Alien visitors than a few other authors. The stories flow along very well and the concept keeps you interested in what's going to happen next. It's a good mixture of old ideals and forms with the added ones of a new generation. Definitely in a collection of must read books.
This story is great, and I have to say this series is fast becoming a favorite.. The storyline and characters are amazing.. And the romance is so hot it's scorching.. Though I was given an arc for my honest review.. I loved it so much that I had to purchase a copy for my collection...
A hot and steamy "insta-love" read with a twist in the story-line that will leave you in anticipation for the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Huen is the second book in the Zhekan Mates series. The book can be read as a standalone. There is some violence. The sex is hot and steamy so definitely 18+.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. The author did a great job of giving readers an overview of what this story is about. The events in this book were over a short timeline and I don't normally like "insta-love" stories. But this story had enough of a twist that I want read the next book to see what happens.
I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.
