Letters to Lincoln is such an emotional read. It’s a wonderful read, filled with emotions from both ends of the spectrum and everywhere in-between. It will break your heart and leave you smiling. It is one of those books that manages to feed you so many different things.

Truthfully, I’m tempted to push aside the ‘contemporary romance’ label this book has been given. Whilst it does fall into that category, to label it in such a way minimises what people can expect from it. The story is so much more than your standard contemporary romance. In fact, the romantic elements take a bit of a backseat. It is a story of life. Of living. Of moving forward. Of acceptance. Of recognition. It is one of those stories that contains so many different elements. It is deep and passionate, forcing you to experience more than you could ever imagine. It deals with family, friendship, heartache, pain, and so much more. Each time you think you’ve reached all the hard-hitting elements, something more hits you. Blow after blow is made, leaving you an emotional wreck throughout.

From the very first page, the emotions hit you, breaking your heart. You feel so many emotions for the main character even before you know her. The mere knowledge of what has happened – of the loss she experiences, of losing both her husband and unborn child – rips you apart and leaves you connected to her in ways you could never imagine. Then, as the story starts to move, you connect with her in many other ways. You feel for her, not only because of what she went through – and because of what she is still going through – but because she is a character, you can come to love. She is real, she is flawed, and she wiggles into your heart.

However, one blow is not enough. Life has a way of kicking you when you’re down. As the story progresses more and more elements are introduced. Some are predictable, yet such does not lessen the impact. You become truly invested in the story, and each new aspect leaves you wanting more. You’re left curious as to how everything comes together, you’re left wanting to know all the details. It sucks you in and refuses to let go, the good and bad (there’s a lot of the latter, be warned) leaving you unwilling to put the story down.

Throughout the drama that is our main character’s life, we have the reason for the title – letters written to Lincoln. We come to love Lincoln in the same way we love our main characters, connecting due to the intense emotions involved. There’s the continuous underlying element of who Lincoln is (although I will admit it was rather clear), and we’re constantly left loving him more and more as he grows as a person.

In the background is that love story I spoke of, hence the contemporary romance label. It is never at the forefront of the story. It is not the focus of the story. It happens, it is a message of hope, but it is not what the story is about. In fact, it was my least favourite element of the story. I enjoyed it, yet it felt a bit cheap when compared to the rest of the story. The romance elements happened very quickly towards the end of the story, never feeling quite as intense as the elements at the start of the book.

Overall, however, this was a wonderful read. A truly emotional read, a truly enjoyable read, which I cannot recommend enough. Read it – you won’t regret the decision.

THIS BOOK HERE.... It has been a while since a book had me tearing up from the beginning and Letters to Lincoln was just the book that brought on the full ugly cry. I cannot explain how deep, powerful and breathtaking this story was to me.

"I breathed hard in and out through my nose, anything to quell the nausea, the panic. But I couldn’t stop it. I opened my mouth and I screamed."

Dani's suffered the unimaginable and had lost hope in life itself. All she wanted was to be left and die but her father's love and determination would not allow her to. Seeing her try to live life one day at time truly had me in tears because I could only image what she was feeling.

She never imagined that her life would change when she took that first step on the beach. As she starts writing to a mysterious Lincoln it had me smiling and hoping that he would be the one that would help Dani to live and eventually love again. As her penned friendship with Lincoln starts blossoming it had me giddy because it was helping Dani to look into the future. She would never be able to forget her past but that past would help her to look into the future.

"When you kissed me , you affected me right to my core. More importantly, you not only affected my body, but my mind, too. I get you, Miller, and you get me. I understand your pain because I’ve felt it myself."

Miller, how can I describe him...He's sweet, sexy and very mysterious. When I thought I had him all figured out, well the joke was on me because I definitely did not!! One thing that stood out to me is how he truly cared about Dani and how sincere he was with trying to help her cope and to continue to live.

"Miller reached out with his hand and slid his palm across my cheek. He pulled me towards him. His kiss was gentle, tender, yet held the same passion as before. I felt a tear run down my skin. I felt his rough lips on mine and I tasted the blood as they cracked slightly. When he pulled away, he smiled. “That was everything, and more,” he whispered."

Like I said earlier, this is a powerful, deep, breathtaking story that had my heart from the first words. Thank you Tracie Podger for such an amazing and breathtaking story. I will definitely be keeping on eye out on you share with us in the future.-Kara 5 Stars

description

First of all, please take this review and my rating with a grain of salt. Except for two very unhelpful 1 star reviews, this book has only received top ratings so far, so this is obviously a very clear case of "It's not you, it's me".

As for why I didn't love this...
Part of it was probably due to the enormous expectations I had for it. I was hoping for a brutal tear jerker, something like Rachel Higginson's The Five Stages of Falling in Love. A story to viciously tear at my heartstrings and stitch the poor organ back together afterwards.
This book though, while I found it compelling enough and it did manage to elicit a few tears from me, for the most part read more like a soap opera than a heartfelt tale of loss and healing.
All the angst, drama and deceit totally overshadowed what the blurb promised this to be about: contemporary romance about overcoming loss, finding the strength to rebuild a life, and learning to forgive

Add to that the fact that I wasn't able to warm up to the author's (occasionally very simplistic) writing and the terrible overabundance of tea-drinking, well... let's just say that while overall I did quite enjoy this book, it won't ever be a favorite of mine.

Favorite Quotes:

“Dani and I are just admiring the view,” Mrs. Hampton said. I gasped, silently of course. She had to be well into her seventies, but the naughty chuckle that left her lips and the dig from her elbow into my side had me desperate to laugh out loud… “Dani, I wish I’d brought a couple of chairs and a flask,” she said.

Funny how a field full of dead people can be one of the most peaceful places on the earth isn’t it? But then... of course, it would be peaceful, it’s not like they can talk, is it?

I can be wearing the scruffiest clothes, no makeup, and my hair a mass of tangles, but I feel like a beautiful woman with a dab of perfume behind my ears.

My Review:

To clear up any possible confusion, Letters to Lincoln has nothing to do with a dead American President and there were no mentions of a tall bearded man or anyone named Abe. Letters to Lincoln is a British/Contemporary/Women’s Fiction/Family Drama hybrid with an emphasis on family drama, lots and lots of family drama. There were several storylines that often intersect in unexpected and heart-clenching ways with tragedy, betrayals, secrets, lies, loss, friendship, deception, anonymous letter writing, second chances, and new beginnings. Written from a first person POV, this angsty and emotive tale continually squeezed my heart yet plucked at my curiosity and kept me emotionally invested with an insightful and intriguing narrative. Tracie Podger is a master storyteller. I bow to her word prowess.

As a great fan of the author, I just could not wait to start reading. The story begins with a tragedy that marks you throughout your life. Dani has not only lost the meaning of herlife, but also her voice. In a deep sorrow she writes a letter and throws it to the sea, but the next day she gets a reply signed as Lincoln.
How the story continues I will not say, I can only say it is full of surprises and complications that I did not expect.
Sadness, grief, anger, cheating, honesty, craving, love and forgiveness are the main emotions.

Letters To Lincoln is hard to put in a category. It is a wonderful and emotional story that is part contemporary romance, part women's fiction, part mystery.

Dani wakes up in the hospital broken arm, stitches everywhere, her husband dead, herself no longer pregnant. Along with grief, she feels guilt because she had been the one who wanted to go for that drive.

"The tears that flowed were my soul leaving my body. I watched it. I watched my soul climb on that bed and curl into Trey’s side. I watched its arm reach over and cradle my baby. I died inside that day. The sobs that left my mouth were the last sounds my lungs, my voice box, would produce."

To try to express some of her grief and guilt, Dani writes a letter addressed to her husband, but a stranger discovers her letter and replies. Dani finds out more than she bargained for about herself and her past.

"I was taking a walk up the lane to the honesty box. I paused halfway. Honesty Box. What I wrote, what Lincoln wrote, was about the most honest we’d been, I believed."

There were so many twists and turns in this story that at times I felt like I had whiplash! But there was so much satisfaction when I finally began to discover some answers to the myriad of mysteries that popped up throughout the book.

This was my first book by Tracie Podger. I loved her writing and was kept enthralled and entertained right to the wonderful conclusion. I loved how I was kept turning pages always wanting more than the little tidbits of information that the author was giving me.

I've read a few of this authors books but this is certainly my favourite. This is an amazing read, it's an unforgettable read that will stay with me for a long time.

Sometimes a book comes into my life at just the right time. I've had a few days of wondering if I wanted to keep blogging. I had also picked up and put down a few books. Nothing kept my interest. I decided to give Letters to Lincoln a go and I'm so glad I did. I was hooked from the start. I couldn't get enough of this story. It gripped me. It had me in tears. It pulled my heart out, shredded it and then put it back together. The characters are awesome. The storyline is brilliant. I seriously cannot praise this story highly enough.

This book is certainly one of my favourite this year. I absolutely adored it. I want to delete it from my memory and read it again for the first time.

While I haven't read all of Ms. Podger's work, I will say this book is drastically different than the other books I've read. While most of what I've read has been set in the US, this book is set in the UK and pulls the reader right to the coast in Cornwall. As always, Ms. Podger's characters are well developed and real. The feelings and circumstances are rooted deeply and are often brutal. There is so much emotion in this book, I found myself near tears on several occasions.
Dani moved in with her father after the devastating loss of her husband and daughter, the shock of which took her voice. Needing an outlet for her emotions, she writes a letter to her husband and throws it out to sea; creating the pen pal exchange with a man who she assumes is an older widower, named Lincoln. The heartfelt letters between Dani and Lincoln are emotional and give a lot of insight into both characters. But they are the catalyst to begin healing.
Wanting to create her own space, Miller, a builder, is recommended. When more devastation is laid at her doorstep, her father, Miller, and Lincoln console her. It seems just as she is getting her feet under her, the rug is pulled out repeatedly. Betrayals are revealed, secrets learned, and near disaster transpires before the end of this emotional read.
Ms. Podger's story is definitely a have to read. Tragedy, healing, and romance are perfectly balance in Letter to Lincoln. How would you handle the loss and the truth if you were in Dani's shoes?

What do you do when your husband dies?

Wow - what an emotional story get the tissues to hand because you will need them. I absolutely loved this book. The pace of the book flows very well! It was heart breaking in places!
This book had me from the prologue I was a ball of emotions from the start..

Dani loses her daughter and husband in a car crash she is alone and coming to terms with her loss she is struggling blaming herself. My heart broke for her so much. After she comes out of hospital she goes to stay with her father. Her way of dealing with it is writing a letter to her dead husband.. only to get a reply by a stranger who finds it.. they write back and forth and I really think they are helping each other heal in a way.. I not going say much you have to read this well written story of loss, and finding the strength to rebuild a life, and learning to forgive.

I loved all the characters they each have something about them that makes you just like them.

I'm a new reader to Tracie Podger and I think that I may need to take shares in Andrex if her other books are like this one.

Heartbreakingly beautiful, I was crying within the first two chapters, then came all the other emotions, anger, hate and then happiness, anxiousness, and then more crying.

I wish I could rate this more than five stars...happily off to one click more titles now

I was intrigued by the description of this book, somewhat different from my usual book choices. When I was a little way in I feared it would turn into a real sobfest but, though the beginning is extremely sad, the book became a journey for Dani, the reader and a few other characters in the story. I think we all like a man with a dark past and there are several in this book. Dani is hit by one tragedy after another and, reeling from a recent revelation, finds the identity of Lincoln, the man with whom she’s exchanged letters and confidences, to be one betrayal too many.

The story had me guessing and on several occasions I was wrong. I do like to be kept on my toes. The book goes from a horrifying beginning to a feel-good ending and it’s definitely a good read.

I have a confession to make – I have written and re-written my review for this book more times than I care to mention. I’ve been struggling to find the words to do it justice. It’s a devastatingly beautiful story, that has been exquisitely written. If I could award it more than 5 stars I would in a heartbeat. It deserves all the stars!

This is a story that will haunt me for forever more, and trust me, I mean that in a good way. Some tales just burrow themselves deep within you, and for me, this is one such tale.

Dani has experienced loss that no human being should have to endure. Struggling to cope in the aftermath, her already unsteady foundations are once again rocked when hidden truths are revealed. How much is one person supposed to cope with?

Needing an outlet to express her feelings, she finds solace in writing a letter she never expects to be answered. Only it is…

Maybe, just maybe, more than one heart will be healed.

I would highly recommend you invest in a large box of tissues before embarking on this journey. If you have an emotional disposition, like me, you’ll need them.

I still can’t believe this is only my second ever read by this author. I’m half afraid to see what she’ll hit us with next. I’m not sure my heart (or tear ducts) can take it.

Also, never mind finding your next BBF in this book, I found my Book Husband. I lost my heart, plain and simple.

As you can imagine, grief plays a huge part in this story. Ways to cope, and of finding a way to live once again. #This line resonated with me:

“At some point, those moments will be more moments, until you can freely be happy without the guilt.”

Here’s to us all finding our own way and hopefully our happy. We all deserve that, don’t you think?

Letters to Lincoln by Tracie Podger

Just wow. This book has all the feels going on and yes i cried at yet another of your books.

Do you ever find a book that hits you so hard emotionally that you think about everything in your life. Things that really matter and suddenly things that seem so wasteful of your time. A book that makes you appreciate the things you do and ands makes you stop worrying so much about things out of your control. A book that's makes you hug your little ones just a little tighter, a call to your loved ones that you haven't made for a while? This book (I'd even go as far as to call it a life lesson) did all of this and more!

This is such a beautifully written piece of art and I just couldn't put it down. I cried, I laughed, I got angry, I smiled and more than any of that this book left such a lasting impression that I'm still thinking about those fantastic words nearly a week later. Yes a week.. that's how long it has taken me to process and put this review into place. There are only 4 books that have ever had this impression on me and this is the fourth one which firmly takes its place with the others.

With Tracie being a multi genre author I'm never quite sure what to expect with her works but this is a must read story no matter what genre you read.

The story flows beautifully with nothing left untouched. The detailing is perfection and the twists and turns this story takes you on makes you feel like you are on one hell of a rollercoaster ride. This story is perfectly executed and I wouldn't change a single word within its beautiful pages.

The cover is beautifully tactful for the words inside. The characters are real they are your neighbours, your friends and your work colleagues. The characters are very well written and you go through the motions with them. Some you love, some you hate some you will love then hate then love again. This book really does have it all and I feel so honoured to have gotten to read this book.

I'm waffling now I just can't do this book justice with my review.
Everyone go and get this book now and while you at it get some chocolates and a box of tissues at the ready maybe a glass of wine too!

5 stars from me

This review is from: Letters to Lincoln (Kindle Edition)

Ok... so where do I start?? Well how about when the tears started... at around 3% on an aeroplane..yup jetting off on my holiday and the tears were streaming down my face !! This story is so raw and takess you to the depths of emotional despair on far more than one occasion.
Dani's life as she knew it was about to change irrevocably following a car accident... she was to lose everything.. including the best known communication known to us..her voice.
Writing everything down in answer to her nearest and dearest led her to writing a letter to her husband baring her soul - seeking answers, which she put in a glass bottle and tossed out to sea, never expecting a response - or the connection she felt to Lincoln who wrote back to her. They shared stories and more than that shared a grief so deep that Dani wasn't sure she would get over it. Through these letters they helped each other and Dani started to hope that she could meet up with Lincoln.
As she managed to open herself up she started to think about moving on, letting go of the hold her grief had on her - which was keeping her at her dad's where she'd escapes to in her darkest hour.
I loved the secondary characters in this, I loved Dani's dad, so completely selfless for his children, I loved Colette, the village gossip, who in fact was so so much more than that.
I felt invested in the friendships Dani started to form with both Miller and Daniel and it was obvious there was more of their stories to tell and I was eager to find them out.
Things never run smoothly though and Podger throws a major spanner in the works that completely threw me off kilter.. wasnt expecting that !! More tears followed!!
The final chapters had me crying, laughing and crying some more...(poolside this time.. yup fellow holidaymakers think I'm a loon lol). I've not been on such an emotional journey for a long time, where I have felt so much empathy for the characters.. Podger has done an amazing job of telling Dani's story and also Lincoln's and their journey together.
A glowing (and teary) 5* from me

This is my first read by Tracie, and I must I say was exceptionally impressed. Based on the person who recommended me to the book, I knew it would have to be a good read, but I was not prepared for just how brilliant this Cornwall based emotional rollercoaster would be, and I loved every single page!

I felt the author really laid out the base of the book well. We felt and understood the deep connection the main character had with her husband, Lincoln. It was easy to know what she lost so much, when she lost him, and why she would turn to writing her emotions into letters.

The surprise of them arriving back with her, and the turmoil she went through after, were just the icing on the cake. She had so much to deal with, and had to learn to deal and build a new life, one she never thought she would need to. The author portrayed this so well, to the point that I was in tears, on several occasions, and was smiling on others, when she made leaps forward in finding herself and her happiness again.

Podger had a way of making the whole story feel very real and very much possible. It made it easy to connect and really feel I knew the characters. The level of detail and time that was put into everything that happened, made it feel as though I were there and definitely made the book very hard to put down. I truly loved this book and now I expect to go and read everything by this author!

Occasionally you read a book which is so good that it leaves you spellbound; Letters to Lincoln is one of those books. Tracie Podger has written a beautiful story, which had me in tears more than once. This story left me feeling warm, emotional and I spent some hours thinking about it afterwards.

I really loved the characters in this book, hated a few but that’s only natural. Dani especially caught my heart, her life is ripped apart by a car accident and to help her recover she writes a letter to him. When her letter is replied to it starts her on a long road to recovery, revelations, and hope. Dani is such well written character, I really felt for her as her life took different turns. Miller is the builder who is designing her new home; I really loved Miller! Life hasn’t always dealt him a good hand, but he is kind and very caring soul, with secrets he is coming to terms with.

If you want a good read, a really good read, one which you can curl up with and forget the rest of the world. One which you can become totally entangled in, one which pulls at your heart strings…then you need to buy this book; close the doors, turn off the tv, your phone and just read! You won’t regret it, I promise.

Dani had lost her world - her husband and unborn daughter, causing her such emotional loss and shock even her voice.

So Dani decides to write a letter and express all her built up feelings and emotions, the one thing she didn't expect was for someone to actually reply to her.

Dani learns a lot about herself from her writer and her past and finally seems able to open up but can both dani and lincoln deal with the past but also the present?

With such deep powerful emotions running throughout this book and unexpected twists, this book covers the full wave of feelings you could imagine. Heart in mouth moments to tears of sorrow and joy, such a fantastic page turner.

First 80% of this story, was amazing, a sure 5 stars!!
The rest.....not so much. It was just OK. I don't know what happened, but it didn't even seem to be the same story, or the same writer. We even started having typos by then, and everything felt rushed.

A wonderful emotional book that will tug at your heart and consume all your thoughts. Tracie Podger once again has written an amazing book with strong characters that you relate to immediately. The story flowed perfectly and I found I couldn't put this book down.

Dani has lost her husband and unborn child in a most tragic of ways, utterly devastated she goes to stay with her father as she cannot face going home to the house she once shared with her husband.
She is so traumatised that she loses the will to speak and decides to write a letter to her husband which she pops into a bottle and lets it float out to sea. When a stranger answers that letter so proceeds the therapeutic healing process that we get to experience for Dani and also for the stranger who answers her letters.

The letters were an amazing way to get to know the characters and what they were feeling and going through. Ms Podger has a way with words that certainly revealed itself in this stunning story.

A true love story that melts your heart and tells of loss, hurt, secrets, healing and love and what these characters have to go through to come out the other end. At times it is raw and brutal, but at other times totally breathtaking.
I also loved that fact that it was based in Cornwall in the UK. The descriptive of the scenery and the area made me feel that I was standing on the beach with Dani many a time.

This book should not be missed, the experience of the loss, hurt, healing, and love was a privilege to be reading and I will be recommending this to my book friends.

A lot more emotional than I originally thought; Letters to Lincoln is such a beautiful, heart-wrenching novel with surprises around every single corner (or in our case, page). Every single character was written with such poise, definition and beauty - I certainly will remember all of them for a long time to come. Whilst I did find certain parts of the storyline a little bit predictable, I still enjoyed the full conclusion of the novel and how certain situations were explained on a deeper level.

Be prepared to shed a few tears with this one, I most certainly did. It's beautiful. Truly beautiful.

There are only so many adjectives to describe this book. It is...to put it simply...amazing.

From the first chapter, you feel like you have taken a bullet. It will have you reaching for a box...or two...of tissues.

The author writes with such intensituy, that makes you feel every emotion along with the characters. You feel the devastation, the heartache, the sorrow. You feel the anger and resentment and loss. Then you feel the shift. You begin to feel less pain and realise that life can shift 180 degrees and have you feeli g utter joy and contentment.

Dani and Lincoln are characters that you automatically love from their first introduction. They are flawed and make mistakes like all of us. They also heal each other in a way neither of them expected.

Tracie Podger has blown my mind with this heartbreakingly beautiful story that will stay with me forever.

Highly recommended, I give " Letters to Lincoln" FIVE stars!

Where the begin with this book. This book has to be my favourite book I have read this year. It was been a couple of weeks since I have read Letters to Lincoln and I still find myself thinking about this book and certain parts of the book.

Though I have to warn you that by 2% in you will either be crying or at least have tears in your eyes. There are more tears that come later on in the story but they are worth it when you read this book.

Dani has it all and in the blink of an eye it's gone. As I read though this book it made me hug my little boy and husband a little bit more and think how lucky I am.

The story is beautifully written and leaves you feeling the emotions of the characters. The flow of the book is not rush but it is so hard to put down (I read this in a day).

I have recommended this book to all my friends it is a must read.

An emotional story that will have you reaching for the tissues more than once.

How do you piece back together your life after grief? How do you make yourself whole again when the person that once hugged all your broken pieces back together is no longer there to do so? And once you finally feel like the floor is not crumbling before you and you can walk on steady ground, how do you react when the rug is once more pulled from beneath your feet?

Letters to Lincoln follows Dani’s story as she is released from hospital following a tragic and fatal car crash that stole the lives of two of the most important people in her life. Her husband and her unborn daughter. Grief and pain steal her voice, her strength and her desire to live life. But leaving London behind and staying with her father on the Cornish coast opens up a whole new path through the pain towards a light she never knew she needed to find.

But the path will be just as rocky as the coastline she now wanders along. More deceit and pain is heading her way and before Dani can truly live again she will be pulled to the edges of hell and back first.

By the start of chapter four, I was already wiping the tears from under my eyes. The pain Dani feels is palpable and the love from her father warms the cold wet, tear stained pages of the book.

But the pain! The heart stabbing, gut wrenching pain is so real that all you want to do is wrap the book in a blanket and hold it safe by a warm comforting fire. Tracie Podger’s words don’t just tease emotions out of you, they down right demand them.

I sat reading this book watching the cold, unpredictable and choppy seas batter against the shoreline in front of my house, which seemed the most fitting of destinations to lose myself in this book. I imagined the class picture frame windows of Dani’s new home and each time her father made her a calming and therapeutic mug of tea, I sipped the glorious liquid alongside her.
I could feel the sea biting my cheeks, despite the glass windows that separated us, because the words on the page transported me there.

I am one of those annoying people who generally guess the twists and turns in a book well before even the author intends you to ‘get it’. It's a frustrating trait that my husband hates when we read a thriller or watch a movie. So, the first ‘betrayal’ or twist in this book was not entirely unexpected. But I believe that was the intention of the author. Mostly because you find yourself screaming at Dani through the pages.

You know her heartbreak is coming and the frustration that she can’t see it yet propels you through the pages. The breadcrumbs were there, hidden under the sand Dani walked upon along the beaches and coast lines and buried in the earth of her husband’s grave. But even as you read the words you hear your own voice screaming out a tirade of angry denial. To be so connected to the grief of the main character so early on is an incredible talent. To feel her pain in such a visceral way as the words tumble from the page is a skill that Tracy has mastered effortlessly.

It is not often I force myself to put a book down and 'finish it tomorrow'. But as I reached the 80% mark, I forced myself to put it away. Not because I wanted to stop reading, but because I honestly didn't want it to be a book I read 'in a day'. The words on the page deserved more than that. They deserved to be savoured and as much as I was desperate to finish it, I wanted to be a voyeur in Dani's story for just a little longer. Waking up early the next day, I felt like a kid at Christmas as I opened the pages to read her final few chapters. Dani feels like a friend I was privileged to meet and even now I don't feel ready to let go. That is the sign or a truly remarkable book.

Letters to Lincoln is more than just a tale about grief, love and growing stronger through pain. It’s a reflection on just how much strength we can gather from friends, family and loved ones in our darkest and most testing times.

I am a fan of this author, especially those stories which tug at the heart strings and have you crying while you read. This book was one of those stories.

A horrific accident leaves Dani on her own and unable to talk about what happened. Moving in with her father she writes a letter to her husband, puts it in a bottle and throws it out to sea. She doesn't bank on receiving a reply, or the fact that her first letter will lead to many more going back and forth between her and the mysterious person who replied. As she writes Dani is able to share her feelings with this person, known only as Lincoln. He, in turn, shares his feelings with her. By talking about things through the medium of written words, they begin to help each other.

Unfortunately the heartache Dani has suffered doesn't end with the accident. She finds out that not everything she has been told is the truth, and with the revelations she endures yet more grief. Can she find a way out? Will Lincoln prove to be her saying grace?

The author has once more produced a story which I am honestly in awe of. What she puts Dani through is shocking, but necessary in order for her to work through the grief she has been allowing to dictate her life.

A brilliant, highly recommended read.

Ms Podger writes amazing developed characters that truly share the depth of their emotions with you while reading. This is a wonderful book to loose yourself in and ignore life around you. Expect to fell extreme sadness and loss, hope and will, anger and defiance....

Dani looses her husband and daughter in a horrible crash. Along with them she looses her voice. As we watch her try to learn to communicate we really get a good look at the person she is. She is sweet and thoughtful but so very lost. Determined to reach out and start the healing process she writes her dead husband a letter. When someone finds her letter and replies she finds herself with a penpal and an outlet for her feelings.

Miller is hired to help construct a home for Dani out of an old barn on the property. The more we see of Miller the more we see a caring man who has had his own share of heartbreak. He becomes a fast friend to Dani and her rock away from her family.

When the rug keeps getting pull out from Dani's feet and she thinks she can't move forward. Miller is always there for her. Will the develop more than a friendship? Will Miller let Dani in when it is his turn for help?

Such a wonderful book that everyone must find time to read.

Throughout my life, there have been books that completely transform my brain from a complicated stressed-out pile of mush to a relaxed centered functioning piling of mush. I think this happens when I read a book as good as this one because it allows me the opportunity to step out of my shoes and into someone else's. In order to do that though, a book has to have characters that I love and a setting that is descriptive enough so I can visualize it, but not be bogged down in every detail. This author did both of those and more. The plot was fabulously paced and never once left me dragging to the end. After I finished reading this my husband and I actually talked about what happened (want to know what happened- read the book). It is such a tragic story that it seems almost too impossible, but I know this kind of stuff happens. I cried when Dani went through it all. I loved the connection between her and Miller. And I longed to connect with Lincoln. I won't forget this book anytime soon and I would give it six stars if I could.

It has been a long time since a book has affected me so emotionally until I read Letters to Lincoln by Tracie Podger. I laughed, I sobbed, I cursed Tracie at numerous times for making me feel all these feelings.

Letters to Lincoln is a raw, unapologetic look at life after death. Dani is involved in a car accident that not only kills her husband Trey but also her unborn daughter, Hannah. Inconsolable with grief, Dani moves back to Cornwall to her Dad's house and there she grieves. Her husband and daughter are buried together in the village's graveyard and Dani struggles with the grief causing her to be unable to speak. Her dad, bless him, gives her the go ahead to have plans drawn up for an old barn to be converted to her new house. This I felt was the start of Dani coming to terms with her huge loss. I won't say too much more about the book as I found the little twists in the book to be best felt unaware.

Dani makes friends with her builder Miller, vicar Daniel and she also writes letters to a man named Lincoln hence the book title. I loved the letters between Lincoln and Dani, she was able to express her grief with this unknown stranger and she shared more than she could with her dad and twin brother. Miller was my favourite character, he didn't care that when they met she was unable to speak, he still spoke to her like a normal human.

This book was written with such emotion it jumped off the page and went into my skin, I was unable to put my kindle down. Even when I wasn't reading, I was thinking of Dani and what I would have done in her situation. No matter what I write in this review, it won't do the book any justice. I don't think I'll be able to portray how much I loved this book and I think everyone should read it.

I loved the setting of Cornwall, it's one of my favourite places in England to visit and it was different to the usual chick lit novels set in Cornwall.

I hope when you read this book, you have absolutely no plans! I would have raced through this book if that pesky thing called life didn't get in the way. This is a book that will stay with me for a long time, it's one to keep on my kindle as I know I'll want to reread it in the future.

If I could award more than five stars I would. One of my favourite reads of 2017 so far!

Huge thank you to The Book Club on Facebook and Tracie Podger for allowing me to read and review this book. All views are my own.

Heart wrenching. This story shattered my heart then slowly started to put it back together before it stuttered and even stopped for a few minutes. It is intense but also has that inspirational aspect that comes from loss and grief, moving on and building yourself up again. It has some twists that were unexpected and some I had figured out, but I was hooked and so invested in reading that each surprise hit me like a sucker punch. This is emotional and deep but there is some light as well. A story that spoke to me and kept me enthralled, worth more than five stars, it left me with a book hangover all through the night. Well worth reading.
