“The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.” ― Oscar Wilde
If you're into the fluffier side of life, you have my blessing but will you please take the next exit. For the rest of you depraved pervs, enjoy your stay ;)
The last one from this Taboo series. Recommend to read the first four to understand this story.
After been sold by their father Jake and Colton are kept hostage by master of torture Weldon. Even though Weldon has a weak for Jake he never stops torturing him and his brother. All the time you will ask yourself 'how the hell will this end?' Trey, under the spell of Jake, but also Weldon's partner in crime, has his own ideas how this all will end. Because it will end some way or the other.....
There are more and more parts open to the daylight and it's confusing as hell. Maybe my brain is dry because it gave me some kind of a headache....i turned back to the earlier parts of this story to see what I forgot. And that was just a great idea....to read this in one sit! Part 5 is less violent and more revealing.
Ingenious story with a somewhat satisfying end, but in the context the only appropriate. Written in a fast pace, captivating and thrilling, complete attention necessary. A mustread for those who love some violence, torture and cruelty....but also last but not least an intriguing story with people who bond.....
It's great that I didn't have to wait for this final episode's release, because the waiting would have been unbearable. I don't know how others did it. I'm glad I discovered this series once this last book was already out.
This being said, I'm not sure what I could possibly write about this final book. I'm not a fan of spoilers in reviews, not even hidden. The temptation is huge, I know. Well at least this is me, I tend to click that *spoiler* once in a while.
I think it's safe to mention this was not as dark and as full of action as I expected. I wanted so much more. And I wanted more of Tray and Jake, but let's just say the ending was satisfying enough. It kept me turning the pages real fast.
The final chapter in the fast paced, dark Taboo series by Kol Anderson, book 5 opens with Weldon visiting his father in the hospital. One of the few times we see the human side of this madman, Weldon offers half an attempt to appear the dutiful son. The dialog between the two emphasizes the chasm between the world Weldon has created for himself and the rest of mankind. It is during this visit Weldon puts two and two together and realizes Trey has been playing him false, and the rapid spiral downward that is Taboo 5: Final Episode begins.
The tables are finally turning on Weldon, and Trey has been busy working to ensure his employer’s downfall. As earlier attempts to outsmart or trick Weldon haven’t worked, a past victim advises Trey, “‘You don’t bring down The Devil. You rise up to him.’”
Trey realizes he has to raise his game, play dirty, and pull out all the stops.
As fantastic a character as Weldon is, Trey is the real star of this psych ward.
His crazy just never stops spinning. Truly a master at writing complex characters, Anderson has outdone himself with Trey. Layer upon layer of twisted behavior - when he’s not trying to fool others, Trey is trying to fool himself.
Wanting to paint himself as the victim or the hero, Trey thinks of excuses. It’s either “I have to do his bidding, Weldon is helping my sister”, or “It has to look like I’m one of them so they’ll let me keep seeing you”. Unfortunately for Jake, Trey is his best hope for rescue. Unfortunately for Trey, Jake didn’t want him from the opening scene in Book 1, and I doubt he truly wants Trey now.
Kol Anderson is terrific at painting a picture with words and the whole series is full of wonderful descriptions. As the characters face off on an abandoned high rise rooftop, with the wind swirling around them, Stoll has a gun trained on Colton as darkness falls. Both men are reaching the end of their ability to wait any longer, and in Colton’s words “‘Every few minutes a whisper would startle us both and Stoll would go on alert but none of the whispers of sound ever became more than silence.’”
The desperation is palpable and it’s down to the final moment to see which way this is going to play out.
My hat’s off to Kol Anderson with this one. The Taboo series has creative characters, tense drama, and gorgeous, spine tingling details. Waiting as each episode was released was it’s own form of torture, but lucky for you the series is now complete. Classic Anderson and you won’t be disappointed.
Honestly this had some potential and at the end of Book 2 I was quite intrigued by where this was headed. Unfortunately between episodes it was almost like the author changed his mind on where to take the story and this happened between every single episode. Overall it was just all over the place and I never got a sense I understood anyone EVER...much less what would drive any of these people to do what they were doing.
Add to that...my heavens the editing got worse with every book. Quite disappointing.
Definite potential but lost its edge and its direction too many times to fully enjoy.
This story was a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end . I never knew what would happen next and I loved it if I finally thought I had some things figured out I was wrong . I wished I knew why Weldon was so fucked up is it weird that I want to know more about Weldon ???
Okay. I waited until I finished to actually place a review. Its a sliding scale. I know, bear with me.
5 Stars for the WTF factor. I usually love books like this. It was sick, twisted, and it kept me engaged. Hey I stuck it out until the end so that counts right?
4 stars for writing. Kol has a way with words. Kol's writing puts you there with the characters. Kol describes everything happening to them with detail. As a fellow author, I can appreciate that skill.
3 stars for leaving us hanging. Geez. There were so many points I had to go back and re-read because my brain honestly wanted to know what happened to Jake and Colton. Trey was my hero and I wanted more for him. He was so caught up in this world and he couldn't get out until he was forced to.
2 stars for carrying it through 5 installments. I've heard serials are a bad thing. I suppose it's okay when we can't wait to see what happens with said character(s) so I suppose Kol succeeded.
Thank goodness for KU and waiting until the entire series was done. Yes it was twisted, I squirmed in my chair, but hey, the author's job is to keep the reader reading.
This was a nice final instalment of the series. Maybe not my favorite and there was something about the ending that didn’t felt right for me.
Was it good? Yes, very good, I really enjoyed it, but there was something about making Weldon a little bit weaker than I see him that wasn’t ok for me, he didn’t disappointed me really but there was something that didn’t felt right, he kind of redeem himself at the end, but I just don’t know, there was something off about him.
Trey has never been I character I liked, this instalment didn’t change that, but I guess other readers won’t have issued with him. Jake and Colton were lovely as they have been so far, both my favorite characters al trough the series. I really enjoyed them so much.
The ending might be satisfying for most readers, I did have a little bit of an issue about it, but overall it was great episode.
As a whole story it was absolutely amazing, really dark, twisted and with a lot of angst. Definitely one of the thing I enjoy reading. The author makes a great job giving life to an evil mind. I loved this series.
So this is the final chapter..We get to see what happens to Jake and Colton...and to be honest I loved it but I so wanted Weldon to suffer more than he did.....Oh boy they had every chance to really hurt him but at least they came out of the other side x
