In a near future, post-Apocalyptic America, civil unrest and insurrection spreads in the wake of coordinated attacks by anarchists and terrorists. Battles between dissident factions rage from coast-to-coast as cities and towns become war zones. With travel and communications severely restricted and food, fuel and other essentials in short supply, the nation is on the brink of collapse...
Professional security contractor, Eric Branson has been away fighting ongoing insurgencies in Europe when he realizes his own country faces the same fate. But before he can make his way back home to Florida, a catastrophic hurricane deals the final blow to an infrastructure ravaged by riots and terror, leaving survivors cut off and on their own. Amid the death and destruction in the aftermath, Eric begins his most dangerous mission yet, searching for the family he left behind.
Scott B. Williams has been writing about his adventures for more than twenty-five years. His published work includes dozens of magazine articles and twenty-five books, with more projects currently underway.
His interest in backpacking, sea kayaking and sailing small boats to remote places led him to pursue the wilderness survival skills that he has written about in his popular survival nonfiction books and travel narratives such as On Island Time: Kayaking the Caribbean, an account of a two-year solo kayaking expedition he undertook at age 25.
With the release of The Pulse: A Novel of Surviving the Collapse of the Grid in 2012, Scott moved into writing fiction full time. His post-apocalyptic and action & adventure stories draw heavily on his personal wilderness and ocean experiences to create believable scenarios often set in dire circumstances. I hate to leave less than glowing reviews. 99% of my one book a day reading habit is satisfied by Kindle Unlimited and I realize that most of the authors found here are self published people who dream of being a “real” writer. They are probably doing the best they can. I’ve gotten over my irritation (I was a professor before I retired and always think like I’m grading a paper) at poor grammar and spelling. But now I’m beginning to stumble into really good writers and it’s making me less tolerant of overhyped books and shoddy style. This book was one of those, poor character development, worn out plot, and a style more suited for junior high readers. I still gave it 4 stars out of pity.
Had to reload book 1 to write a review for all 6 books
Book 1 hooked me and could not stop reading the series to write a review. So many twist and turns & so well written! The plot will give you a lot to think about. Could this really happen and the Constitution and Bill of Rights be worthless paper? Maybe it's time to think about a plan B.....& C....&.... All 6 books are 5 stars!
I have read all of Scott Williams prior novels and this is one of his best. The protagonist is a Navy Seal in the mold of Jack Reacher, Clint Eastwood and John Wayne - laconic and tough. The plot is interesting, well developed and believable - no Zombies, invading UN troops or drug cartels. I am looking forward to the next installment.
This book has a good story line and relatable characters. The author sets a good pace, keeping the story moving without tiring the reader out with a frantic race from scene to scene. The action sequences are believable and well written.
An SBW. SYFY. Novel (FNSB - 1)/A War Hero Returns Home/A Cat. 8 Hurricane destroys the Southeast
SBW. has. penned a SYFY. Novel About a military operator who returns home via a tanker to land of the East coast of Florida. The young man is searching for his wife and daughter, but finds so they have gone to a family ranch in Colorado. When he hears the news he contacts an ex partner and finds that his family is packing it in and are taking a 42 foot schooner from Florida to Louisiana. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I read about four of this series before having to give it up as unbelievable even for fiction. The idea that any country would incarcerate all of their population is just stupid. Who is going to feed everyone. That a country would waste resources going way out into the country side to destroy homes is idiotic. Please skip this series save your reading for something halfway intelligent.
Poor dialogue, poor character development, so many plot holes, so much repetition. The premise sounded like it had promise, but it ended up being an unrealistic, world-ending book that only doomsday preppers, conspiracy theorists, or novice readers would enjoy. The author’s writing skills are extremely elementary.
The start if rhe story was strong, but seemed to follow a very standard plot. I did not see any new twists beyond the early part of the book. Will I read anorher? Perhaps but not immediatly as there are so many similar stories out there and this one is nit calling me to continue.
I really enjoyed the first instalment of this series. The story grabbed me from the opening page and didn't let go until the last. I hope the rest of the series maintains this pace and quality of writing because if it does this will be a really fun ride.
This book has nonstop action and suspense. It also is a stark warning as to where this country and the world is heading if things keep going the way they are going. Great writing and I would recommend it highly to anyone who likes plenty of action!
I could never get a feel for the people in this book. It felt like the characters are just to perfect to be real for me. I liked the ideal of the story, however more of a fantasy then a fiction story in my mind.
Scott Williams is a brilliant author! This is the second series I’ve read from him and he has the ability to pull you in and keep you turning pages. The downside to finishing a book is having to wait for the next one. :-) if you like edge of your seat action, you’ll love this series.
The storyline is ok, but it gets moved along by way too much narration for my taste. I wonder if the writing gets better as he goes, but probably won't find out.
This story sounds pretty intense. The plot twists and action scenes are super cool, and the way the characters are written feels totally real. It's like the writer really gets how people think and feel deep down.
As a Florida native, a kayaker as well as being an Army SF Nam vet, I am intrigued by this book! Author knows the terrain, knows the people and has crafted a tale ful of action, suspense & more. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
