‘Living a good life means living with choices. This means choosing to embrace our imperfections, failures, and mistakes.’
New York City author Mark Manson originally wrote his book 229 page of which this short eBook is merely a summary last year. We can find that Mark is a blogger, author and entrepreneur who specializes in writing personal development advice. His website is read by over 2 million people each month.
It is unknown whether Amazon will publish reviews that use the same language as Mark (at least the title of the book is visible!). Being a Summary of the original is actually a helpful adjunct - the meat of the original remains intact but sifted with brevity. In the opening of the book is a very solid overview – ‘Media has a powerful effect on our lives. We are constantly fed with messages about what we should look like, what we should eat, and how we should live our lives in general. However, what we don’t realize about this lifestyle is that it keeps us chasing our dreams without realizing the fact that we already have more than enough. In effect, this makes us lose sight of and miss out on, the important things in life. The book teaches us the secret of truly living the good life. It provides us with a comprehensive discussion on what it means to not give a “f**k”, how it’s done, and why we should embrace it as a part of our daily lives. The book discusses various doctrines to give readers a deeper understanding of the real meaning of happiness, and how not giving a f**k is a step towards experiencing it. Most importantly, the book teaches readers to embrace negativity as a normal part of being human in order to make the most out of life.
Mark ‘s concepts toward achieving the good life include Stop trying to be perfect, the importance of solving problems that will matter in the long run, shattering the idea of entitlement, how suffering makes s stronger, how the choices we make that affect our lives, we are NOT always right, failures improve our quality of life, rejection can make our lives better teaching us to set and respect boundaries, and finally the importance of considering our own mortality – given our limited time on earth we must choose to live the way we wish without external influences. ‘To perfect this lifestyle, there are certain concepts which we must learn and take to heart. This includes a deeper understanding of our emotions and values, and how we define happiness. It also teaches us to say no, to look at failures and rejection in a positive way, and to understand the dangers of pure certainty. Once we embrace these concepts into our lifestyle, we will soon find ourselves living the good life.’
So without all the “f” words (and unfortunately dispensing with them in a review takes the humor and charm out of the book!), that is the essence of this worthwhile self help book.
The Summary is essentially a summary of the original book- The Subtle Art of ... According to me the summary was very good. For one thing the book was short and concise and did not take as much time as the original book might have taken in reading the full content, and secondly, the book has all the essential elements and words of wisdom contained in the original book. I thought that the title says it all- that we should not care about other people's thoughts or words and make a good life for ourselves. But, there is much more to the book than the obvious title. For example, the book says that the media has much influence on our belief system and the reason we give so much damn about others is because the media shows us as imperfections. So, we work hard to gain that sense of perfection and in the way lose focus of what is actually important for us. One thought of wisdom that stood out for me was that people post only the best images of their lives on the social medias and we like fools run after those images and develop a craving for them in our lives. We do not see the whole picture and just get fascinated by the one presented to us. This craving and longing would not cease once you have achieved that item but, would go on to crave something else. So, by not giving a damn about them we are actually getting rid of all the negativity and all the cravings and longings and thereby making our lives better. The book is written in a friendly, clear and concise manner and leaves the reader (me) feeling good and contended about her life.
Summary: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Readtrepreneur Publishing is a wonderful and concise summary of the original book: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. This summary is entertaining and does a great job at conveying the meat and potatoes of the original book. The reader is told that one of the keys to happiness is letting go or in other words “not giving a f*ck”. This summary does a good job at organizing the ideas of the nine chapters and condensing them into a short read that is informative and keeps the readers attention. This book was really good and I quite enjoyed it as I have done my own research and reading on duality (discussed in this book as embracing negativity) and the author also explains how the media has brainwashed humanity into striving for success and material gain when the true key to happiness is to not care and live our lives how we want. Overall this summary book was really good and very informative. I highly recommend it.
I usually go for the full-length version of books, but since the holidays are coming up and the advice from this book is much needed, I figured the short and sweet summary might be a lot of fun to read. I was pretty impressed with how the author covered the basic points of the novel as I do feel like I will be able to handle some of the family drama a bit more now. Plus, I feel like the summary was pretty entertaining to read too. It’s not very long, so if you don’t have a lot of time on your hands then you may check it out before reading the original book. I still plan on reading the original as I’ve heard its brilliantly funny. I am sure, after reading the summary I will be able to whip through the book even faster now. I’d recommend this summary to anyone needing a quick way to deal with stress.
I usually go for this kind of summaries only if I am in doubt if I want to read the original book, or if I already read it and just want to remind myself of some of the key points. The original book is really good, I actually read it a few years ago and it made a good impression on me. This summary does a good job at crunching a lengthy book to an accessible text for a quick and easy read. I don't fully remember everything from the original, but I believe that all the key things are in here, the writing is good and understandable and it gives a reader a push to go and give the whole book a chance. Of course, this is still a summary, no matter from which angle you look at it, but for what it needs to do, it is very, very good. If you are looking for something like that, this is excellent.
This is the authors review and shortened summary of the full version. The author is concise and does a good job of sharing the information with the reader, in a simple and easy to understand style. The story is about making a quality enjoyable life for yourself and not worrying about the others around you. I found the read to be easy and interesting. There are some good views and points in this shortened version. Do people really share only the best of life on social media? Try to make their life more than what it is ? Check out this version and let me know what you think. I am Going to get the full version now and see what other interesting information is included. Check this one out folks.
This book was the first self help style book that I finished in its entirety, and managed to notate the entire book which I enjoyed the process of. It definitely captivated me, and there are habits and strategies in this book that I still use in my day to day life over 2 years later. I'll have to reread it sometime soon, as it is enjoyable, although somewhat repetitive in places, which I find self help books have a habit of being.
A good, clear, concise book with words of wisdom to live a better life. It’s a motivational book to boost anybody’s confidence, release stress and just live on their life without worrying about what others think. What matters to you is what is important in your life- not what others think- a very key message in the book. The summary is really encouraging and a very good opening for the full book.
Sometimes we need a no frills attached commentary on what really matters. The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck is a breathe of fresh air. It implores the reader to prioritise and channelise their energy to make the most of the limited time we have here. Knowing we have to die, we are better off focusing on the things that are truly valuable.
I feel stupid. I wanted to read the book not a summary. The "Summary" word is barely legible on the book cover, perfect to fool people like me. Found it trite and uninteresting. Feels like a rip off.
I found the logic behind the author's reasoning of the book a bit hypocritical. On the surface, it is a good idea of just letting things happen to you and you being in control of your own emotions, but I feel like there is definitely more to life than that.
This short read was exactly what I needed. It stands alone with a lot of information and also let me know I would enjoy reading the entire book. Great job!
I am reading this at a transitional period in my life, so I am seeking the answers to a lot of questions. This book helps greatly with so many of those questions. While at points I didn’t like the narrative of the author, agreeing with others assessments of him as pretentious, it is for the most part is an excellent book. It puts into words so many issues that I didn’t even realize I was dealing with; explaining concepts that have otherwise just been swirling around in my subconscious. Thanks Mark.
