Our First Dance prequel to Take My Hand

Calla is the new resident shrink at The Cage. She showed interest in the BDSM lifestyle for a while, but her new position gives her a chance to really immerse herself into the world of kink.

Flynn is the owner of The Cage and a tycoon in the business world. He senses the submissive inside Calla and longs to free her. Flynn offers to become Calla’s training Dom for thirty days to give her a proper orientation at The Cage.

It’s immediately clear they have more than a passing attraction. Their scorching scenes build a level of trust neither of them has felt before. Calla gives all her trust and submission to Flynn as her bond with him grows. Just as Flynn is ready to give his heart to Calla, a spectre from the past returns to his life and threatens everything he cares about.

You know them as the Dom and the sub with sexual tension so hot it drives Calla and Flynn to the brink of darkness. Find out how they fell in love and were forced to give it up in Our First Dance.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I thought it was great! The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is the abrupt ending. I feel like I was left with a cliffhanger without being warned of it first (which I hate when authors do) and without knowing if I'm going to be getting a conclusion. Beyond that, I loved this story. Calla and Flynn were hot!! I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

I knew going in that Master Flynn and Sub Calla would not get their HEA in this novella but still…this was one hot and intense novella. This novella gives us the backstory of Flynn and Calla= how they got together, how unresolved their love story is and why this is the prequel to their book. I suggest you read this book AFTER you read Take my Hand. I am on the fence over if Flynn is worth Calla’s love because he was really horrible to her but something is telling me to wait until I read the book, not just let the novella influence me. Master Flynn is intense and Lady Psychologist/Sub Calla have this chemistry, this sizzle, this intensity that will draw you in. I really enjoyed this book and am hooked in this new series. I cant wait for the rest of the books in this series to come out now. I need to know what happens.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *****

After reading the blurb I had my expectations and they did not all come to their rights. This book should be about BDSM and dark thoughts but it is not. It is official about a business man that hires a psychologist to check dom/dommes out in his BDSM club. All the story is about is that he wants Calla to be his own submissive. He makes a deal with Calla that she is his submissive for 30 days.
The book is well written but not what I expected. There is chemistry and hot scenes but not the BDSM kind I thought.
The story is readable and I enjoyed it. It has emotions, wants, drama (ex-wife), intensity, chemistry and hot scenes in it. The characters are strong and well described. I just hate cliffhangers.

I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.

I cannot believe I did not review this book here. I voluntarily read an Advanced Review Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was frankly torn between 4 and 5 stars for this book. I ended up giving it five because the scenes were hot and accurate without being overblown and fantastical. I loved the play between Flynn and Calla. Even from the second they met, I knew the chemistry would explode around them, the author portrayed them that well. There are a few typos, but they disappeared when met by a well written, interesting (and very hot) book. If you are looking for the play between Dominant and Submissive added to hot sex and a well written story, DO pick up this book. I know this is one that will not be removed from my Kindle (when I finish books and review them, they are removed so I can move onto others). I want to remember P. Nelson and Our First Dance and re-read it at will. To add: this is NOT a novella that contains an HEA, it is part of a series. While I would not call the ending a cliffhanger, I would say that there is unfinished business between Flynn and Calla that I'm sure the author will address in later books. And as an added note, once I was done with the Advanced Review Copy, I went ahead and purchased the book. It was that good. Buy it, enjoy it, and understand that this author has a depth of understanding of the BDSM community that few enjoy.

Having already read Take My Hand by P. Nelson I knew that Calla and Master Flynn were not going to get their HEA in this story. Normally this would put me off a book but actually this was a captivating, steamy and worthwhile read. It fills in what truly happened between Flynn, Calla and others and explains why there is the unresolved conflict(?) witnessed in Take My Hand. I would recommend reading it AFTER Take My Hand, even though it is a 'prequel' so as not to take away some of the mystery and angst.

In my opinion the author has improved, I felt both more emotion from this story and a deeper connection between the main characters. I would still like to see a little more emphasis or time given to how each character is feeling/what they are thinking.

The BDSM element also came across as a LOT more consensual, although this may also have been due to Calla already being in the lifestyle. The plot was well paced and had some unexpected twists to it, the story flowed smoothly and I found the writing style easy to read and follow.

I'm hoping the title is an indication that at some point Calla and Flynn will get that HEA they deserve. Until then I will have to enjoy other Dom and subs finding their HEAs, starting with Eric and his mystery lady.

👎NO DANCING HERE💃🚫

ARC received for an honest review.

I laughed😀 all the way through this ridiculous book that is supposed to be about BDSM and Cara💋, a psychiatrist. The premise of the book is that Flynn🐺🍌🌋✋, a very successful business man, would also own a BDSM club💪✋ where he would expose himself to public gossip and debauchery, as well as possible lawsuits and blackmail. Ridiculous. No business man in his right mind would do that.

Flynn🐺🍌🌋💪✋ thinks he needs Cara to ✔check out his club to look for potential personality problems with any of the Doms🐺✋ or Dommes💋✋, which might lead them to unacceptable abusive or non consensual behavior with submissives.

What he really wants is to get Cara💋 into his bed! Flynn is a womanizing horndog 🐕.
This whole book is basically a pretty poor excuse for back to back xxx scenes, spankings, etc.

Cara💋 jumps into a thirty day submissive relationship with Flynn🐺🍌🌋✋, without getting to know him at all. She meets him once and then is all in to trusting him in a Dom/ sub relationship. As supposedly a highly educated psychiatrist, she acts like a woman💋 without a lick of common sense.
The book isn't believable and the plot is extremely weak. The book also ends in a cliffhanger..........

The book is a salacious caricature of the BDSM lifestyle, a cartoonish view, even.

No ponies🐎for this 🐕dog.

I read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Calla, a psychologist who takes a job in a BDSM club named The Cage that is owned by Flynn. Flynn is a Dom and thinks Calla should be his sub for a 30 day training period so she can better understand the club and its patrons. Calla is a natural sub and agrees to be Flynn's sub. When they start her training, Flynn realizes she is perfect for him and she knows she will want to continue with him as her Dom. Calla is also facing opposition from her mother about her new lifestyle that Flynn tries to get her to work out. Flynn is also a very successful business owner and his ex-wife is starting to cause him trouble and using his brother and Calla as weapons to hurt him. Flynn is forced to make a difficult decision and face the consequences. This was a good look into the BDSM lifestyle and the relationship between a Dom and sub. I enjoyed the story and even though it did not end the way I wanted, I still enjoyed it. There will be other books in the series and I hope they will answer some of the questions I had with some of the minor characters.

Flynn is a highly respectable businessman that runs the family business. He also owns a highly successful BDSM club. Calla is a psychologist with interests in the BDSM lifestyle, and has applied for a job as the in house psychologist at Flynn's club. Their attraction is instant. Flynn decides to be her Dom and oversee her Sub training for 30 days. Then he plans to let her go. But their feelings get in the way, and soon they both start to become attached. Just when things start to be going really well for them, Flynn's past comes back to haunt him, and potentially drive a wedge between him and Calla.

This story was quite captivating, I was hard pressed to put it down and fix dinner and do the dishes. I just wanted to keep reading. The characters were strong and interesting, and the story was well written. It has passion, some humor, family drama, and jealousy and so much more. I am definitely going to be reading more in this series and from this author.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review. This is my honest opinion.

I LOVED P Nelson's first book, 'Take My Hand' and am eagerly awaiting the next in the series but this prequel gives us a great insight into the love story that is Calla and Flynn. This book takes place prior to 'Take My Hand' so we get to see why Calla and Master Flynn are so antagonistic and cold towards each other and why they really do have true love. It's a sad tale and one I hope P Nelson will at some point throughout this series complete because this is all about giving up what you love for what you believe is the greater good....but this deep hurt and betrayal really does deserve a HEA.

I couldn't put this book down and was so thoroughly disbelieving of how such a great love became so divided and now fully understand and love both Calla and Flynn so much more. These two were a favourite throughout 'Take My Hand' and I look forward to seeing how their story plays out as we explore more great D/s pairings in this beautifully put together series.

Abrupt ending, but...

I really loved this book. It lost one star for me because of the abrupt ending. It reminded me of the ending to FSoG. They both left me an emotional mess which is not necessarily a bad thing. I have since read Take My Hand, to which this is a prequel. This story isn't resolved in there either but I am hopeful that Flynn and Calla will eventually get their own full length novel and get their HEA.

This book is fairly well written; however, the constant change in POV was confusing in places. Also alternating between calling Calla a psychologist and psychiatrist distracted me a little as these are two completely different professions, one being a medical doctor and one a PhD. Those things aside, I did enjoy the story and will continue with the series as I also enjoyed Take My Hand.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book. I also purchased it.

Calla and Flynn will leave you breathless while there contract plays out. Calla was just supposed to be The Cage's new psychiatrist to help weed out the people that shouldn't be included in Vancouver's premier BDSM club. She didn't expect that part of the interview process would include a OTJ of 30 days with Master Flynn. Flynn just wanted a shrink, but when Calla walks in he instantly knows there is no way he is not making her into his next sub. Bending her to his will would be oh so sweet. But as they fall deeper and deeper into scenes and pleasurable pain it's apparent that this Dom/Sub pairing is what Flynn has been searching for without even knowing he was looking. But when it comes to this lifestyle anonymity is sacrosanct and when exposure is threaten it's might just be a hard limit.

This story will grab you from the first page and leave you wanting more at the last page...

Calla is a highly sought after psychiatrist and after a situation at The Cage, Master Flynn feels as the owner, he needs to bring her on to evaluate the members and offer her services. BDSM should be enjoyable for all and if people are there for the wrong reasons, it will be bad for everyone involved. Master Flynn takes Calla on as his training sub but it quickly becomes more for both of them. But can Master Flynn ever be free from his past? Or will it ruin everything he has with Calla?

This is an extremely sensual read. This story had it all...scandal, suspense, erotica, BDSM, and extremely hot sex scenes!!! I can't wait to read more by this author and more from The Cage. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I received an ARC of this story through Hidden Gems and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the beginnings of the relationship between Calla and Flynn. It was also refreshing to read a book where the author seems to have a good grasp on the basic tenents of BDSM and the dynamics between Dom and sub. That being said, there were times I felt scenarios were explained a bit awkwardly and the complete lack of any mention of safe sex concerned me. I am hoping there was some sort of mandatory STD testing and mandatory birth control that just wasn't mentioned! I was also disappointed by the extremely abrupt ending. I understand if the author wanted to leave us on a cliffhanger, but I wish it had ended a little more gracefully. Definitely a promising start to a series though and I have already purchased the next story! I can't wait to read more!

I am not a huge fan of cliffhangers, but Our First Dance is not a cliffhanger in the traditional sense. This is the beginning of Flynn and Calla's story which I hope will come to the ending all of us wants and we don't have to wait for 5 or 6 books to get there!! I loved the chemistry between these 2, the emotion and passion was tense. The book was fast pace and very well written, it took my breath away. I liked it so much, I got the next book, Take My Hand (The Doms of the Cage) through KU for my next read and I can't wait for Dillion's story. I'm so glad I was given the opportunity to read this super book by P Nelson. Great Job!!

I loved this book, but I truly wish it wasn't a cliffhanger! There is nothing worse than being left hanging, especially when the book is so interesting that you are literally kept on the edge of your seat from start to finish! This is the first of P. Nelson's works that I have had the joy of reading, and would love nothing more than to read the rest of the series, as Calla, Masters Flynn and Dillion, and the rest of the characters, develop and grow, through their hard times and their conquests. This book includes lots of hot sex, evil, vindictive exes, and plenty of small-minded people who "just don't understand". Loved the story, loved the characters and am looking forward to the next episode.

Calla had the opportunity to be hired as a psychologist for Caged, a BDSM club on one condition. She had to submit to the owner for one month. Their attraction keeps increasing until his ex comes into the picture with blackmail. He is forced to assign her to another Dom and is tormented when he feels like she is becoming attached to him. Lots of drama and twists and we are left hanging as to the outcome of their story. Well written with strong characters. I received an advance copy and voluntarily chose to review this book.

I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book. I'm not really sure that I received the entire book, as it ended with "..but he certainly wasn't." Nevertheless, this book was intense. I absolutely must know what happens with Calla and Flynn. OMG...they need to be together. I hate, hate, hate Flynn's ex. Can't wait for the next installment. (An aside: The one thing that bothered me was the "little girl" salutations. Two consenting adults, this just did not sit well, but perhaps this is standard practice?)

A Review of Our first Dance by P. Nelson

Calla and Flynn - 4.5 stars

Since I had already perused Take My Hand, I was already acquainted with Calla and of course Flynn. I thoroughly enjoyed getting a deeper look at these two characters and how they came to be in the position they are in. Learning about her parents was a big twist, but a good one. I definitely hope we get to see more of these two characters in future books as well. Well worth the time and money to read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book...

I would have rated this book higher because I loved the story. The reason for the low rating is because the story just ended with no indication that the rest of the story was coming in the future (unless I missed it). It just leaves you hanging and I despise that. The plot was great and I love the characters. I was hooked from the very beginning. Things start to get interesting and then you're falling with no warning of the cliff coming. You just drop. I bought the books of this series hoping to figure everything out.....Wish me luck.

If you're looking for a hardcore BDSM book then this isn't it. I would say this one is closer to Vanilla than BDSM. What I did enjoyed about this book was that I got a look at what had happened to create the tension between Flynn and Calla that exists in the 'Take My Hand' installment of this series, which was released before this book and is a wonderful story.
I would recommend reading Take My Hand before this prequel, it adds to the desire to read this one in order to gain insights.

Our first dance by P. Nelson

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Calla and Flynn are an interesting pair. Calla is a psychiatrist interviewing for a job at Flynn's D/s club, to evaluate members. They are both in the lifestyle and there is palpable attraction between them from the beginning. Ok... let the games begin! This book was a walk through the BDSM life style. It was a fun, highly erotic read that ended on a cliff hanger!!! Book 2 can't come quick enough!

Short and steamy read. I really enjoyed the characters and this introduction to The Cage. The book ended at 89 percent and I felt like, even for a novella, I was left wanting at the end. I don't mind books that end with a cliffhanger but I like to be prepared for that first. That being said, I would still read the next book so I can find out what happens with Calla and Flynn.

Can’t get enough of this series

I have been reading this series out of order, but is not necessary to, I am so captivated by this community of people and the couples that are formed.
Flynn and Calla are wonderful, amazing chemistry and a true emotional bond that has incredible potential.
This well written book sets the stage for the series thoroughly and enraptures the reader to crave more. I fully intend to binge read more of this ASAP.

I like the start of this story. The story of a psychologist who would be hired in a BDCM club (to analyse the clients) if she submits to the owner of the club for 30 days. But the story seems unfinished, so I'm a bit disappointed.
Maybe I need to read the book 2 :)

This was a engaging read. I liked the characters. It is different than lots of the BDSM erotica currently popular. I read the entire book in one morning. I knew going into this, there wasn't an HEA and usually with any type of cliffhanger I wait until there's closure. However, I loved her debut novel, which was the start of a promising series. Great introduction, character development. On to Dillon's book while anxiously awaiting the next one.
