Moonlit Harem: Part 1

Rate this book
People say you can't escape destiny. But I'm sure as hell going to try.
I'm a vampire. A blood-sucking creature of the night who needs to feed on human blood to keep me sustained.
The only problem is, I find the whole lifestyle repulsive and refuse to feed on humans. It's been hard, but I've managed so far.
But as my 21st birthday nears, it is my time to complete the required ritual to take a human life and join my fellow vampires as a true member of coven.
I refuse. And I run.
But when my escape leads me into a den of angry werewolves, I find myself with an entirely new set of problems to deal with.

Moonlit Harem is a paranormal romance reverse harem serial. Each episode is approximately 15-20k words. All episodes will be released as an omnibus when complete.

The world of Reverse Harem is getting spoiled right now. We have new releases every other week. We also have several new serials that are fantastic. Moonlit Harem now joins their ranks! Riley is a vampling, an unwilling vampling. As a human she was vegan, so the idea of a blood diet is less than appealing to her. However, she wasn't given a choice when she was turned. She has been existing on a synthetic, but her time is running out. She is days away from her 21st birthday. On that day the vampires will throw a fabulous party with the entire coven and the vampire council present. She will be expected to kill a human to complete her transition into a full-fledged vampire at that time or be killed herself.

Riley is only a vampling, but it seems that she is important to the coven. They call themselves family, but can they be trusted? It seems there is more going on that we don't know about and it involves Riley. There is much pressure to get her to drop her "human" ideas and become a traditional vampire. Pressure from her creator, Sirus and mentor Draven, from a certain handsome vampire and his creator. Some are overt threats, some are sneak attacks, but it seems like quite a few people are invested in Riley. It almost works, but at the last minute Riley stays true to herself and runs. While she escapes the vampires, she is captured by a pack of werewolves, wild, sexy werewolves....

NM Howell has created a wonderful world to start this serial. There's history, mystery. Riley is a quirky, adorable young lady. I love that she wants to be a vegan vampire and is fighting for her beliefs. She's stubborn in this ancient world of tradition. Her new ideas are bound to cause chaos. She's great! Finally, a vampling in a hostile werewolf pack; a beautiful vampling with sexy werewolves, natural enemies; I can't wait to see what the next installment brings us!

It ended right as something was finally happening. I know it's a series, but come on! It needs a little more meat on its bones.

Ok don't know for sure what to say about this story so far. Understand that it is the first book in a series, but don't know if I can handle the MC personality through the rest of these books. Part of it might be because I just finished the second book in a trilogy that the main female MC kicked ass in the personality department. So with that being said, it was ok but boring....will read the second one to give it a final go but it needs to step up big time.

Riley is a vampling, a new vampire not yet fully changed.

Riley doesn't want to be a vampire. She's a vegan.

The vampires found her, wounded and dying, in a field, and decided she was the one they needed to bring their coven up to its regulation twelve members. They saved her life, but she's not sure she's glad they did. She's absolutely determined not to kill human beings to feed.

Her mentor, Draven, is calm and reassuring, and as the vampires' alchemist, he's developed a synthetic fluid that, at least in until she is fully changed, will sustain her. Yet he encourages her to accept the necessity to consume human blood, and her twenty-first birthday, when she must complete the change, is rapidly approaching. As part of the ceremony, she must kill a human being. If she refuses, she'll be executed for breaking the sacred customs of the coven.

Then she meets the handsome and charming Adrian, one of the oldest members of the coven, and figuring out how to stay without compromising her principles looks a lot more tempting.

This is the first installment of a serial novel, and so yes, it ends in a cliffhanger. It also hints at past events that we don't get the full story on, but are likely to learn more about as the story unfolds in subsequent installments. The basic setup is made clear, characters introduced--interesting, likable characters--and the hook well baited for later episodes.

Recommended.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it

Riley is a vegan, she believes that all animals deserve to roam the earth the same as humans. Her parents were vegetarian hippies but this stuck with Riley. That is all well and good unless you are a vampling, and to survive she needs to kill and drink a human by her 21st birthday which is just days away, this ritual will turn her and enable her to join her coven.

I love that Riley is quite fragile and unsure, however, she has the strength of her convictions to resist what she needs to do. She is stronger than she first comes across as, her coven try a number of things to try and get her to turn but she is able to withstand.

This is a great start to a new serial, I really enjoyed this part one, and am very looking forward to part two to see what happens next. I found this to be well written wit attention to detail and I was transported into Rileys world, I very highly recommend this

Riley is a sensitive, soft spoken soul who, while rescued by vampires, that rescue came with a price. On her 21st birthday she is to assume her place within the coven and that would mean taking a human life. For a girl who was raised by vegetarians, and went that extra step further to become a vegan, this is an abhorrent choice. The serum the medical professional has her on has been helping but has recently started to fail her. She learns of another supernatural community, one looked down upon by the vampires and starts to make plans of her own. Plans that do not revolve around a celebration of death. Now she just has to wait for her chance to run...

The story set up was wonderful. You got the background you needed without it bogging the story line down. You are introduced to the main characters without being overwhelmed, too. It is a serial, so it is short, but there is definitely a lot packed into those pages.

Short, but really interesting

I really think this is going to be a good series. It started so much differently than it ended. I just didn't see the direction it was going until it was almost over. Riley is a vampling who has to kill a human and drink his blood to complete the transition to full vampire to be a full member of the coven. But Riley was a vegan in her human life and just can't justify taking another life - especially a human life. Her mentor, Draven has been trying to help her thru it, but the Master vampire, Sirus is becoming impatient. Adrian, another ancient vamp is trying to help her too, but no one seems to understand the strength of her convictions. The closer her 21st birthday comes, the weaker, but more desperate Riley becomes. She doesn't want to die, but it might be her only option...
Can't wait for the next book!

Book one in this serial definitely has me intrigued in this series and I can not wait for the next book. Riley never asked to be a vampling but she is and now she is facing having to take the final step to be a fully fledged vampire, not so easy as she has always been a vegan! There are some great characters we meet in this book along with Riley including delicious Adrian, caring Draven, scary Sirus and crazy Lady Serenity (yes my own titles for them) and you got to learn more about them as the book goes along. I really had no idea which way things would go for Riley as she was fighting against what is now her nature but still holding on to her humanity which left me cheering for both lol. Great ending the left me wanting to read the next book as soon as its available.

I was given an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.

A great start to a new series. Moonlit Harem is book one in a new series which is being released as a serial. I enjoyed this book and thought that it was a great introduction into the main character Riley and how she's got to the situation she finds herself in. There is also growth for Riley in this book and I think it's setting her up for what is going to be an awesome part two.
This book ended perfectly, it's left me wanting more and for me, when I'm reading a book that's part of a series I want to be left wanting and needing more. I really can't wait for the second book in this serial, I think there'll be a lot more action and excitement and I'm really looking forward to reading it. I really enjoyed Moonlit Harem.

Part 1 of N.M. Howell's series was amazing! Many reverse Harem readers will tell you they don't like serials for the simple fact is you have to wait for the next. I happen to love serials for the fact that I have zero patience in post-poning in reading something just because it's not all there. I'm an instant gratification girl and this book was my gratification! I love the heroine's attitude toward what she was becoming. She didn't want to part with her humanity and for me the fight she put up in not giving in even though (*cough* I probably would have.. read and you'll find out which sexy vampire I'm talking about) she could have. That ENDING THOUGH had me craving more instantly!!! I cannot wait to see what N.M. Howell pulls out of her sleeve next! Did I mention I loved it? ❤️

So I'm intrigued enough that I know I'll read the next one. The problem for me is the MC. I was totally fine with her whole vegan approach to vampirism but the minute she started talking about how she couldn't feed because even as a normal girl she'd never even hurt a fly *cue eye roll* I started to question if I was going to be able to stomach her going forward.

That feeling was only exacerbated by the prayer she said for a rat who was killed. A freaking Rat. I'm not running around killing rodents either but I mean...A PRAYER? REALLY? I almost quit the book right then but alas...I'm a trooper.

Other than that it was ok so I'm hoping it'll pick up now that the latest characters have been introduced.

3 1/2 stars.

**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

OK this was a fairly good start to the series, not sure how I feel about the whole serial thing but could definitely see a TV episode ending as the book did. I am going to continue to read on as I like the storyline and where it might go.

I like Riley's character, she is a vampling he'll bent on not following procedure or doing as her sire commands. The ritual, to be held on Riley's 21st, where she accepts who and what she is to become by taking a life. Can the vegan vampling keep refusing or will she succumb and willingly join the coven? And werewolves, where do they fit into this serial? Darven was also ok but not sure about the others.

I received an Arc copy of the book and this is my honest review that I choose to leave willingly.

Riley was a vegan human who has been turned. Now a vampling, she needs to kill a human and drink their blood in a significant ritual on her 21st birthday. Completion of the ritual will enable survival, transformation to full vampire, and confirm her position in the coven. However, given her ideology Riley is unwilling to complete the ritual. Written as the first episode in a new series, this is a great start. It is well written with enjoyable characters and situations. For me the best part was its unpredictability. I didn't see the end coming. I recommend it as a good read and am looking forward to the next installment.

As someone who loves the idea of vampires, I can still understand Riley's reservations about becoming one, the sacrifices she faces and what the coven are asking her to do. She doesn't want to become a monster. She doesn't want to lose that part of herself. Oh love is in the air..well under the moonlight.😏 As passionate and comforting as Adrian might have been, his truth and words cut deep.💔 But I love that Riley isn't someone to let anyone change her decision when there's always another way. She won't let anyone take that choice away from her. When one door closes, another opens to both Riley and her heart.😍 I've always been a fan of werewolves!🐾 So it will be interesting to learn more about them as a pack and how they react to our little vegan vampire.💚

I am not really one for serials, but this one drew me in from the beginning. I liked the twist in the vampire culture. We hear about the wolves, but don't get to meet them yet. I'm not sure what I think about her risking her own life. I can understand her not wanting to take a life, but when it comes to self preservation...? I really liked Adrian and I hoped he would help her through her dilemma. What is going to happen to her if she fails to complete her transition? Will she make it even if the vamps don't kill her? Even though I don't like serials, I will have to continue this one since I am curious as to what is next. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Riley is a vegan vampire. She refuse to feed on humans or kill them. She's just too sensitive and kind. And on her 21st birthday, she runs away and stumble upon the wolves that could possibly give her more problems.

The plot is quite good. But i just felt that this book could be even better... Just somethings are lacking for me.... Maybe because there isn't too much romance? Or maybe because i felt that the romance between them is too much fast... I wish it could have had more romantic interactions between them. But well, i hope the book 2 will give it.

Great start

I think this was a great start to Riley's story. I was surprised by how much detail and world building was squeezed into this as a serial. It took me a little bit to like Riley. She was a bit mopey in the beginning but to be fair, she had a right to be. Her future choices were not looking too bright. By the end of this book I was rooting for Riley and dying to meet the werewolves. I can't wait for the next installment!

Great start to a new reverse haram serial. The more I read the more I got into the story my the end of part one I was ready to find out what was next.
The story is about Riley is a vampling that needs to do her first kill before her 21st birthday to become a full vampire. However as a human she was a complete vegan all her life so you could see her struggle. Will she be able to be a vegan vampire. Look forward to seeing what's installed next.

A great start for the series, in my opinion. I was a little confused at the beginning, because it felt like I was missing some important parts of the story, but the more I read, the clearer (and more interesting) things became. There was just enough information given to get me hooked and the ending definitely made me wish for more.
Looking forward to the next book.

Really interesting

I enjoyed this new serial. I wasn't sure where it was going to start with. I didn't like the vampires she was associating with and couldn't make a connection with them for an RH. Now I see why. I can't wait for the next book in the series. It was just getting me really hooked at the end!

This is a good start to the series. You have a conflicted woman who has to make the decision to become a full vampire or die. There may be another option as well but it will be quite a journey regardless of the path she chooses. As a serial, it leaves you with a lot of quesitons but definitely makes you interested in learning more.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

This novel is really short, I realized it would be short since it is just the first part of the story but I didn't expect it to be this short. The story start to take off just as part one finishes. I liked the story but whished that maybe the author would have released part 1 and 2 close together or made part 1 longer. My tip is to wait to read part 1 until part 2 have been released.

This book was okay. Because of the short serial length I didn't feel like enough questions were answered and the characters weren't completely developed. I would like to read the next to see where the story goes.
