Do you really know your mother-in-law?A Spine-chilling Horror novella from the Queen of ScreamWe all know a relationship with your mother-in-law can be quite tricky from time to time. We jokingly call them things like Monster-in-law. However, sometimes, there is actual truth to that joke, isn’t there? Some of them do act like true monsters, don’t they?
When Crystal meets her future mother-in-law for the first time, she is excited. She knows it might be a challenge to have her live with them for an entire month, but still. It’s an old woman we’re talking about here. How much trouble can she cause?
Mommy Dearest is a short story thriller from the Amazon #1 Best Selling author Willow Rose. It will NOT improve your relationship with your mother-in-law.
Willow Rose is a multi-million-copy best-selling Author and an Amazon ALL-star Author of more than 100 novels.
Several of her books have reached the top 10 of ALL books on Amazon in the US, UK, and Canada. She has sold more than three million books all over the world.
She writes Mystery, Thriller, Paranormal, Romance, Suspense, Horror, Supernatural thrillers, and Fantasy.
Willow's books are fast-paced, nail-biting pageturners with twists you won't see coming. That's why her fans call her The Queen of Scream.
Willow lives on Florida's Space Coast. When she is not writing or reading, you will find her surfing and watch the dolphins play in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
OK. That was a bit funny. I'm sure a lot of people would definitely relate to this one. Haha.
So, Crystal was excited to meet her future Mother-In-Law. She's from Romania, she's an old woman who's had a knee surgery and cannot walk without a cane. Hmm, looks like they'd get along pretty well, right? Right? Haha.
I felt uncomfortable the whole time I was reading this. The slurping sound while eating, the creepy rattling at the door and the mysterious old woman. But I loved it. The twist was overly-cliched, typical "who's telling the truth" kind of thing and it worked for me. It was short which is a good thing.
This horror novella is a somewhat predictable tale about a relationship with a mother-in-law from the wife's perspective. In all honesty, one of the things that I love about Willow Rose is that her stories are not usually excessively layered or complex. She puts her characters in simple realistic situations that are horrifying, and then turns up the dramatic elements.
Crystal is excited to meet her future mother-in-law who is traveling from Romania to the United States. “Mommy,” speaks very little English so communication with Crystal is a challenge, although her fiancé communicates fine with his mother. In fact, Crystal is disturbed by the fact that he kisses his mother on the lips and sleeps in the same bed with her. Could Mommy Dearest be an incapacitated old lady or is there something far more sinister happening? Again, a really creepy tale by a solid writer of all things scary.
So this one popped up in my feed. Looked interesting. Love me a good short. Can't go wrong with the "Scream Queen" right? Wrong! By the way who the hell came up with that name? Isn't there some rule where you aren't supposed to pick your own nickname or title? Screw it, it's the internet, I'm a tall leggy blonde with tons of cash! Why not? Back to the book. As much as it kills me a little inside to overlook grammar errors (after all they aren't always the authors fault) I can do it. What I can't get over are the clunky and oversimple sentences and dialogue. Feels like it was written by a fourth grader. The most thrilling part for me was when it was over, this was awful.
The faces that people show to the world are not always the same faces that look into our eyes when no one else is around - the ones trying to melt our soul with a mere glance. I'm speaking generally, of course. BUT... if my now mother-in-law would have come to stay with me and The Dark Defender way back when... I seriously would have just shot myself. I'd love to tell you that we're now best of friends all these years later - but my lies smell like a fart in a car, so I'm not even going to try. (We're getting a lot better with our face to face time though!)
Crystal is hoping to have a very different experience. Her soon-to-be mother-in-law is coming to stay for a whole month, and she hopes that they'll really be able to bond during that time. So what if she is just finding out what a mama's boy her fiance is? Why should it bother her that they don't speak English when they're talking around her? She is just imagining those smug, self satisfied sneers coming from Mommy Dearest across the dinner table... right?
You can really get to know someone in thirty days. - Just ask Morgan Spurlock. One month. That's enough time to learn their habits, and get used to their quirks. It might even be enough time for everyone to start showing their real selves to one another...
Willow Rose really let me down with this one. It was full of grammatical errors which I tried to ignore. But, when one of the main characters suddenly had a different name I shook my head and (after trying to figure out who this new "person" was) rapidly finished the book. Thank God it was a very short one.
So the story is about a couple Rob and Crystal who have been in a cosy relationship for eight months. One day Rob wants her to meet his mother. So his mother travels from Romania to Florida to spend a whole month with them.
Both are excited. And everything seems normal until strange events begin to pop up in the neighborhood.
With strange sightings, things become more perplexing than ever. Crystal can sense something not being right after a few days since her mother-in-law's arrival and not in a typical way.
Could her mother-in-law be related to all the peculiar things happening in that area? And what exactly is she hiding from everyone?
I picked this novella on a weekend and it kept me glued to its pages. Although I have seen others say the ending was predictable but for me I didn't see that coming. The suspense was well maintained, the grand surprise reveals a twisted truth that stands out as innately scary.
This was pretty epic. The story follows a woman named Crystal who recently became engaged to a man named Rob. Her future mother-in-law is coming to Florida from Romania to stay with them and as you could guess, creepy things occur. This wasn't the most complex story as there's really only the three aforementioned characters for the majority of the book, with two neighbors and a few police officers making brief appearances. However, this was super interesting the entire way through, and the twist at the end was really cool. If you're looking for a short read that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you definitely want to check this out.
This was a fun quick short story. I did believe as I was reading but did start to wonder. I really enjoy Willows books I was not disappointed with this one at all
WOw!! This is just.....wow. I love Willow Rose as an author, she really knows her stuff and makes the story have just enough of all the right things. Try her books if you haven't already....I dare you
I am speechless, and not in a good way. This was so bad I'm stunned it got published and stunned that anyone would rate in more than One Star. I actually rate it lower. Poorly written, and one of the most clichéd plots ever. It's like a really cheesy episode of some cheesy 70s TV show which would star really cheesy actors.
I really enjoyed reading this story. Crystal just could not wait to meet her future mother-in-law. Unfortunately, things don't always turn out to be what you think they will be. "Mommy" was from Romania and did not speak any English, so communication between Crystal and "Mommy" was difficult to say the least. "Mommy" was going to be visiting for a month and then going back home again. Rob and his mother would carry on conversations in Romanian and would be laughing, and Crystal was being left out. Strange things were happening after "Mommy" came to visit and the tension was building between the three of them. The neighbor had complained about an intruder trying to break into their house, and the intruder looked very much like good ole "Mommy." Then the neighbor's dog went missing and had not returned home again. Rob found the dog dead on the beach and noticed that his mother's scarf was with the dog. Rob confronts his mother about it and tells her she could no longer stay at the house. Rob packs her bag and drives her to the airport and sends her back to Romania. The ending had a real twist to it, but you will have to read the book to find out what happens. 😃
A story of a couple who are getting married and a twist of future in-law dislikes. This story was a complete disaster. It was written in second person and was executed poorly. Every ounce of it was the author telling me how I should feel instead of showing me so I could connect with the characters. Their was no character development and was all over the place. Branches of the story were thrown in there with no buildup, no introductions. There was no indication of pets and then all of a sudden they exist when the neighbors come looking for their dog? Completely unrealistic and not believable. It was like the author was trying to force the readers to connect with the main character so they wouldn't suspect anything. There were random fights about subjects that left me confused. Black panthers on a beach? Umm, maybe research is best in this scenario. And the ending, yeah, why? There was no real reason for the reveal. Made no sense. I could tell this story was written on the fly instead of thought out to give it the proper development that it needed. It was disappointing, especially since the title, cover, and synopsis grabbed my attention. I felt cheated. So glad I got this when it was free, because if I had paid for this I would have been even more upset.
Sorry, I have never wrote a bad review before but... I'm sooo confused... I thought this was supposed to be a horror novela. Not even close! My 11 year old son could easily read this and roll his eyes at it! The only reason a kid shouldn't read this is because of when it says they have sex. There isn't a description of their actions while they are... Just a simple- they have sex. Now that's fine, I do not need a description of the action to make a book good. Just saying that's how it was written in this read. They go to bed and have sex (stop) they go to bed and have make up sex (stop) make up sex is the best (stop). I chose this book to read because it's described as a short horror novela and it was a fill in until I tracked down my next read. I wanted something a little different then my normal read but, this just ended up being a big disappointment. There was so much hype in the description of the author and her horror writing that made me excited to read this book and it turned out to be a big let down. I do have some free books from this author on my kindle. I will try one more read by her to give her the benefit of the doubt but if the next one isn't any better I'm sorry to say.. all will be removed from my kindle.
Rob & Crystal have been married for 8 months. Cocoa Beach. Rob introduced Crystal to his mother (79, Romanian). They were going to stay with her for a while. Someone kept trying to break in the neighbors Mr. Steve Cooper (65+) & Mrs. Marcia Cooper (65+) house.
Why Crystal why?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written horror (Novella) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great horror movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.
Thank you for the free author; JustKindleBooks; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
Willow Rose’s, Mommy Dearest will appeal to all types of readers it seems to be the American dream at first and then turns into a nightmare that one might narrowly escape from, if you happen to have a little luck on your side. Which the neighbor’s poodle dose not and it is run down in the street after the unfortunate death of one of the couple’s cats. The second cat dose much better being held hostage by someone, her hands around his neck ready to end his life, never a dull moment. I’m sure everyone who reads this will be able to relate to it in some way. Weather it is an American woman marrying a man from Romania, the mother of an engaged person, an engaged person, the homeless and even President Trump voters are mentioned. Pet owners. Pet owners looking for lost pets, but mostly pet owners looking for ways to lose a pet will not want to miss this. Honesty, I found this short story murder mystery very amusing and would recommend it to everyone… except well read it and find out . I loved it!
This is another chilling horror novella by The Queen of Scream. Crystal has just moved in with her fiancé, Rob, in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Her future mother-in-law is arriving from Romania to spend a month with them. She's 79 years old, has recently had knee surgery, and struggles around using a cane. And ... she does not speak English!! This is going to be hard for Crystal. Rob doesn't often translate conversations with his mom, which makes Crystal uncomfortable. There are several events which shock both Rob and Crystal, especially the photos on the wall where Crystal's face has been cut out. This story is scary, right? Yep, there's a battle starting to brew. You'll be shocked at the end...truly surprised. Highly recommend.
Another will written horror family romantic relationship adventure thriller short story by Willow Rose 🌹. Her finance's mother is coming in from Romania too Florida and the fun begins. Strange things start happening which all are blame on the mother. The son sends the mother back to Romania and they elope too Hawaii and a honeymoon. They return and things are going well then the husband discovers things that change events from the mother to the wife and she has the gun 🔫. I would recommend this novella to readers of mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading or listening to books 📚. Willow Rose 🌹 is one of my favorite authors. 2022 😢😈
Wow!!! Dealing with in-laws is sometimes a very aggravating experience. Very well written, worth the read. This book had me from page one. Unfortunately, as people age, some are more set in their ways and can be difficult to deal with. The in-laws are ones to get most back lash and the children of parents don't want to believe THEIR mother would do something like that. And to think this could really happen!! I would recommend this great very well structured read to all book lovers. You can feel the aggravation, annoyance, disbelief & shock while reading. It got me going with a truly surprise shocking ending. Way to go Willow Rose!!! Keep 'em coming!!!
This is one of my favorite authors. All her books are a quick, easy, entertaining read. These little novellas/short stories are extra fun when you've only got an hour and want to read a whole story--and I know I'm going to like it when I read one by the Queen of Scream! Creepy as always with characters that you'll like right away (well, at least the main character, lol!). There were some typos in the book (it just came out so hopefully it will be fixed soon), but for 99 cents, this is a deal. If you haven't read any from this author yet, give her a try with this one. Just a nibble to wet your appetite and you'll be reading lots more!
Fifi suffered for nothing. I'm a great animal lover. Broke my heart for the dog getting killed. As for the old woman she shouldn't have been there anyhow. Right after knee surgery didn't have any business traveling. Crystal , great actress, had me fooled😮, thought she really Did love him.Typical man Rob thinks of mom and sex not too smart jumped out of trying pan into the fire. Anyone with that large of an insurance policy should know better than get married ,haha, I wouldn't have. All in all I thought it was great read, Willow keeps knocking them out of the park.😆👍😍Can't wait for the next one ... Tweety🐦🐦
Mommy Dearest is a short story, but was a fast paced read. I couldn't stop until the very surprising end! Rob and Crystal are living together, and very much in love. Rob brings his mother, from Romania to meet Crystal. "Mommy" as Rob calls his mother, doesn't speak much English. Crystal feels left out, when they speak in their native language. Strange things seem to be happening. Crystal tells Rob that it's his mother doing them. This book has many twists and turns, until the very surprising ending!!
Not quite what you expect, but then Willow Rose always has a twist
I was caught up in this tale. I thought for Peter's mom was guilty of everything.
All the strange things happening, attempted breaking, a missing dog; started once Peter's mother arrived for a visit. Crystal wanted to blame it all on the old woman.
Willow Rose really had a surprise in store for us all. Ms Rose can always be counted on to lead you in one direction and suddenly change track and leave you shaking your head.
At first I thought I wouldn't like this book, but I was wrong. I found the book to be quite bone chilling. This short horror story made me read the book until the very end.
It is a bone chilling novel and at the end of the book, it shocked me. I never saw it coming. It was a really good twist.
Overall I thought this was a very good book and I would recommend this book to people who love horror stories and would be a good book to read if you'd like to read horror books when it's dark outside.
