From the very first page, "My Girl" by Jack Jordan grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go. This psychological thriller is a whirlwind of emotions, where every twist and turn keeps you on the edge of your seat. Imagine waking up every day to the relentless agony of loss, only to find yourself trapped in a web of secrets and lies. That’s exactly what Paige Dawson, the story’s broken yet resilient protagonist, endures.

Paige is living a nightmare. Her daughter is dead, her husband has taken his own life, and she is drowning in grief and alcohol. Just when you think things couldn't get any worse, Paige discovers a hidden trove of her husband’s secrets. The shockwaves from these revelations propel her into a desperate quest for truth and justice. But as Paige delves deeper, she realizes that the past she thought she knew was a carefully constructed illusion.

Jack Jordan masterfully crafts a narrative that makes you feel every ounce of Paige’s despair, anger, and hope. The writing is so vivid that you can almost hear her heart breaking, sense her increasing paranoia, and share her determination to uncover the truth. The emotions are raw and palpable, making the story resonate deeply with readers.

The suspense is relentless. Just when you think you have it figured out, Jordan throws another curveball. Paige’s struggle is universal. Her pain, though extreme, is something we can all empathize with. The prose is simple yet powerful, making it an easy read that’s hard to put down.

"My Girl" is not just a thriller; it's a deeply human story about loss, love, and the desperate search for truth. Jack Jordan has created a hauntingly beautiful tale that will linger in your mind long after you’ve turned the last page. If you're looking for a book that will keep you up all night, gripping the edge of your seat, and tugging at your heartstrings, "My Girl" is the perfect choice.

Prepare yourself for an unforgettable journey into the darkest corners of grief and the incredible resilience of the human spirit.

I think its safe to say that this book is intoxicating, as I devoured it in about 2.5 hours after my kids went to bed. I kept saying “Just one more chapter, then I’ll put it down and get a good night’s sleep”. I honestly had every intention of just reading the first 5% or so, as I had been working on finishing a previous book that afternoon and wanted just a taste of what I was starting next. Clearly, Jack Jordan had other plans for me! I will be putting no quotes in this review and be touching on the plot as little as absolutely possible, because otherwise this is what my review would look like….

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Ok, so first off, the less you know about the plot going into it the better. If you could even just pick this up without reading the summary, I would highly recommend doing so, even though that sounds ludicrous. This is one of those books that, the more people have read it, the less likely it will be to keep all the surprises from being spoiled, so jump on it ASAP! Yes, there is a majorly big, huge, GINORMOUS twist and it is NOT at the end of the book. I hate harping on big twists because then all you do while reading is search for the twist instead of enjoying the book as you read. There is a lot of punch packed in such a small book; some reviews have said it wasn’t long enough to fully develop the characters, but I personally thought it was just enough. This is truly a dark book and I’m not sure dragging it out would have made any improvements (IMO).

One thing I appreciated about the ending was how it was satisfying without being cookie cutter perfect. If you are the type who needs every single questions answered and nothing left open or to the imagination, this book is likely not for you. Also, if you have a weak stomach and cannot handle graphic violence and other major triggers involving sexual/physical abuse (think Karin Slaughter, Angela Marsons, Jeffrey Deaver, etc), this book is also not for you. It was addicting in a traumatic way-like a car accident on the side of the road. Its grisly, gruesome, and disgusting, but you are fascinated and can’t seem to look away. I also appreciated the author’s ability to write from a female standpoint; there was a particular scene where Paige is remembering her daughter and reminiscing on her scar from a cesarian section; it wholly made me reminisce on both of my daughter’s births and how I couldn’t even fathom life after something happening to either one of them.

I’m so sorry that this review is so vague, but I promise its for your benefit and I couldn’t handle spoiling this for other readers before they even had the chance to experience this story for themselves. Highly recommended to the right reader!! So grateful for the chance to read this from the author and am thrilled to be a stop on his blog tour for My Girl on Thursday, July 7th!

I received a copy of My Girl by Jack Jordan through NetGalley for an honest review.

Paige Dawson sits blurry-eyed on her couch after a soul-numbing cocktail of diazepam, codeine, and low quality wine. The upholstery makes deep indentations in her skin from hours of blocking out any contact with the world at large. Paige is at the receiving end of the remnants left behind from the brutal murder of her young daughter, Chloe, and the recent suicide of her husband, Ryan.

Jack Jordan presents a woman on the very edge of self-destruction. Her intense desire to live in a fog-induced coma tinged with pills and booze leads her to desperation. And that desperation leads Paige to some of the seedier acts of life in order to keep her supply and demand on the upswing.

During brief moments of being lucid, Paige notices that her husband's things are missing. She wakes one morning to find a video of her daughter playing on the machine. Paige knows that she was certainly not capable of hauling out Ryan's things or working the DVD player. Someone is moving the pieces on her chessboard. She contacts the detective in charge of her daughter's murder and he scoffs at her concerns. The fear within actually motivates Paige.

I was so locked into this storyline.....until I no longer was.

Something great was happening here. And then it rickashayed in the wrong direction for me. The need for "shock and awe" seemed to override a superb storyline. The porridge grew cold no matter how many lightning bolts you paint on the bowl. I know that I am pretty much alone here with others giving this book 4 and 5 star reviews. It should have been. It really should have been.

Here's my wish. Please don't gravitate toward the Shock Jock side of writing, Jack Jordan. You have all the makings of a fine writer. Don't bob and weave in the tall grass. I truly loved Anything For Her as your debut novel. It spoke volumes about you as a capable writer (Pun intended).

It is my hope that your next offering will be elevated with wit, tension, intrigue, and a zigzag storyline that engages the reader fully. Curve balls work well in baseball when the pitcher uses the right stance.

I wish to thank Net Galley and especially Jack Jordan for gifting me a copy of My Girl in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is my first read by British author Jack Jordan, and I was pleasantly surprised. This little book packs a punch! The protagonist is Paige, a 40ish year old woman who is suffering mightily since the mutilation and murder of her daughter 10 years previous and the recent suicide of her husband. I must say I was getting impatient with Paige, wanting to bop her a good one to get her to enter into some kind of therapy for her seemingly hopeless alcohol and pill addiction. Just when I had had enough of her, there was a major turn in the story that totally pulled me in hook, line, and sinker. From that point on, I was 100% engaged, anxious to see how this was going to play out.

The novel is fairly short (240 pages in paperback form); I would favor adding another 25 pages devoted to more character development though what we do get is pretty good. I also would have liked more about what drove the bad guy. Otherwise, this is a great effort by a new author. The plot is dark and compelling with lots of suspense and several clever twists to enjoy. The story is told from a couple points of view, which worked well. There are a few questions unanswered at the end, but I found that realistic in this case. Of note, this is a stand alone story; it is not a cliffhanger.

I want to give Mr. Jordan special props for doing a fabulous job in getting inside the head of a woman and mother.

If you are looking for a quick, dark, solid little psychological thriller, this book is for you. I have his first novel, Anything for Her, on my “must-read” shelf. Give this author a shot. I know I will be keeping my eye on him.

"My Girl" is the first book I have read by the author Jack Jordan, and I would like to thank him for my signed copy that I won on Twitter at Christmas.
I have heard SO much about Jack through online book clubs that I couldn't wait to read his work, he is a very highly thought of author and praised by many and therefore I had high expectations for this book. I wasn't disappointed, "My Girl" is a hell of a book, fast paced, dark, disturbing and oh so much tension. I do agree with a couple of reviewers that there are a few things far fetched but then most books are (they are fiction after all) and yes the subject matter (sexual/physical violence) was very uncomfortable and emotive at times, but it fit the story very well. It must be very difficult to write such harrowing scenes and I do believe Jack got it perfect!
I would have liked this book to be a bit longer - it is quite easy to read it in a few hours if you're so inclined - maybe see the events leading up to Ryan's death and his reasons for owing the gun, but this didn't stop me from enjoying the story any the less and I think Jack has wrote a cracking suspense thriller. He's a very descriptive writer and you can imagine the intense scenes he writes about with clarity.
I haven't read Jack's debut book "Anything for Her" - yet - but I have high hopes for that too and hope to read soon

Many thanks to bestselling British author, Jack Jordan and Net Galley for providing me with a copy of his second novel, MY GIRL, the new terrifying dark psychological thriller, in exchange for an unbiased review. Having just read his debut novel, ANYTHING FOR HER, and loving it, I jumped at the chance to read this novel. WOW was I in for a treat! This is a standalone novel and not for the faint hearted.

Paige Dawson, a forty year old, protagonist is a widow after the mutilated death of her daughter, Chloe ten years ago and the death of her husband, Ryan two months ago, who committed suicide in the family home.

It was all too much grief to bear, and Paige had a heavy heart and chose pills, booze and cigarettes to make her forget. She was so heavily into this drug scene that she provided sexual favors to her family doctor in his office, for extra pills. She was slowly crashing and on the verge of total destruction. She needed to get into therapy, but this option was not on her agenda.

And then a series of unexplained acts make her look like she is going mad! Her husband's belongings disappear. All her husband's picture have been removed from the albums and frames. The cops think that she is responsible because of her out of control drinking and pills.

She is determined to figure out what is going on. She then finds a gun and old phone hidden in Ryan’s desk drawer. Why had he owned a gun?

This is a short novel, 240 pages on my Kindle, and I loved every page. At the 50% mark…I was blown away…with a major twist, and one I didn’t see coming. From then on, I frantically raced on to see how it would end. This was a brilliant method to ramp up the tension which never let up.

I recommend this book to those who enjoy psychological thrillers. One talented author to keep on the radar. Waiting patiently for his next book!

Paige Dawson is a tormented woman. Her 14-year-old daughter, Chloe, was murdered 10 years ago. The only thing they found of her was an arm. Paige has been grieving ever since. And now her husband has committed suicide.

Paige's life is spinning out of control. She drinks to the point of having blackouts ... and the things she does with her doctor to get narcotics is shameful and disgusting. She's existing ... but she's not living.

Her father and brother, as well as mother-in-law and father-in-law are desperate to get her help ... they are all afraid that Paige is going to wind up dead at any time.

And then strange things begin to happen. Her husband's belongings .. all of them ... disappear. Every album with her husband's picture is destroyed. There's no problem in understanding that she's angry ... but did she do these things ... or is it a result to too many pills mixed with alcohol?

She finds a gun hidden away in his desk .. as well as phone she's never seen. What was he doing with a gun? Did this have something to do with the death of their daughter? Desperate for the truth, Paige begins to unearth her husband’s secrets.

WOW! This was such an intense read. I had so many mixed emotions about Paige. I felt sympathy for her, but at the same time, I wanted to tell her to get her act together.

Then about half way through the book, there is a HUGE twist that jumped off the page and slapped me in the face. From there the action moved at the pace of a whirlwind.

This was not the first I've read of Jack Jordan ... and it certainly won't be the last.

Many thanks to the author / JJP / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Copy furnished by Net Galley for the price of a review.

Paige, 42, is systematically killing herself with alcohol and prescription drugs. The murder of her daughter 10 years earlier has now been compounded by her husband's suicide. Nothing is left for her. And so she drinks and dopes to deaden the pain. The thread of her sanity begins to unspool as she starts hallucinating, items belonging to her husband and daughter go missing. Blackouts occur.

There is a rather terrific twist along about midway in the story. On the downside, we are given no hint whatsoever of the reason behind the bad guy's proclivities and I think it was sorely needed in this case.

A quick, fast paced book. This was easy to read and hooked me in right away. Paige Dawson, is a woman still mourning the murder of her daughter ten years ago, and the recent suicide of her husband. She is addicted to pills and alcohol and is a train wreck. Her life needs to change and it does about half way through the book. A heart wrenching twist.

I really enjoyed this one. There were some questions that were left dangling. Perhaps it was intentional by the author to leave one guessing. It was a short book. Had it been a little longer then I think some of the odds and ends would have pieced together nicely. That said, there's a lot packed into this little book.

I'd like to thank Netgalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this Advanced Copy. I was impressed with the author and I look forward to other work from him.

I would like to thank the author and his blog tour team for for giving me the chance to read this book.

We meet Paige. She is very disturbed about what happened to her daughter some ten years before and the recent suicide of her husband. She is trying to drown it out along with the visions of the blood bath of her husband and the loss of her daughter with drink.

Everyone is concerned with how much she is drinking. But Paige is on a gentle road to destruction and her extra meds are provided from her doctor for 'favours' which she is disgusted with herself about but needs the meds.

Strange things start to happen, is she dreaming this? Is it the blackouts she has which is the problem or is there something more sinister.

When she finds a gun hidden away which belonged to her late husband she has a hundred and one questions in her head, the main one being, what is he doing with a gun?
His phone too is there.
Paige wants to get to the bottom of this and heads off to a direction that finds her in more depth beyond her control.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I do have his first book, so judging by this one I really need to get to it.

This book had me by the short and curlies. I really found it addictive reading.

The twist in it was very good.

There were characters in this story I would have wanted to delve into more if I could and what and why they acted like this.

This is a new author coming to the table and I feel personally that he will get better and better, and maybe prolong some of his books in more depth as regards other prominent characters in future books because this one left me with some unanswered questions.

There is a blog tour soon, look out for it, look out for its release because this is a book that is well worth reading.

Firstly, thank you to the Jack Jordan, who asked me to read this book, approving me through Net Galley, thanks also to the publishers and Net Galley.

Firstly, I would like to say want a great potential from this great new young author.

A great talent at only 23 years old, with this his second novel.

Paige Dawson: the mother of a murdered child and wife to a dead man.

She has nothing left to live for… until she finds her husband’s handgun hidden in their house.

Why did Ryan need a gun? What did he know about their daughter’s death?

Desperate for the truth, Paige begins to unearth her husband’s secrets.

But she has no idea who she is up against, or that her life isn’t hers to gamble – she belongs to me.

A chilling, dark, shocking, frightening realistic thriller, that's grips you from the beginning.

Paige Dawson is a tormented woman. Her 14-year-old daughter, Chloe, was murdered 10 years ago. The only thing they found of her was an arm. Paige has been grieving ever since. And now her husband has committed suicide.

Spending her life drinking, what is happening to her life, why can she not remember things and why will police and friends not believe her, things are happening to her but is she guilty or is the drink affecting her more than she can believe.

Nasty shocks, chilling twists, a dark and disturbing reality that shocks you to the core.

A great quick read at 240 pages, especially for me as I read in two days, I just had to know where this book was going.

Great book and an easy four star book for me.

More to come from this author, I am sure!!

Paige is on a self-destructive slide that she seems unable to control. Paige's 14-year-old daughter Chloe was abducted and killed ten years ago, and Paige had to bury an arm - the only part of Chloe that was found. Now Paige's husband Ryan, unable to cope with his grief, has committed suicide.

Paige, already distraught, is completely upended by Ryan's desertion. She drinks bottle after bottle of wine, lives on sedatives and pain killers, and smokes too much. Paige's house is filthy - covered with empty bottles, smelly ashtrays full of cigarette butts, soiled clothes, and dried vomit. Paige doesn't eat much, hardly showers, drives drunk, gets arrested, and performs humiliating sex acts with her doctor to get extra pills.

The author's depiction of Paige as a grief-stricken drunk/drug addict are very authentic, and I empathized with her pain.

Paige's relatives try to help. Her mother-in-law Greta, who has a house key, brings food and tidies the home. Paige's brother Maxim - a pastor - bails her out of jail and provides casseroles. And Paige's father offers to help clean out Ryan's home office.

While emptying Ryan's desk Paige discovers a gun and a secret cell phone in a hidden compartment. What?? Why would Ryan have a gun? Paige's attempts to learn the truth get her into bad trouble.

Meanwhile, strange things are happening in Paige's house. She wakes up to old videos of Chloe playing on the TV; all of Ryan's clothing and possessions disappear; Ryan's face is cut out of all the photos, including albums; and then there's a fire. Is Paige doing this herself, in a drunken stupor? Is she going crazy? Is Paige's mother-in-law the culprit?

All this leads to Part 2 of the book, which starts with a bang. For me, the second section of the book is less successful than the first. I don't want to give away spoilers so I'll just say that the characters behave in a fashion that's completely inauthentic and unbelievable. Moreover, this part of the story feels like a derivative version of other books I've read. Finally, the finale doesn't wrap up the loose ends that have to do with Ryan.

From other reviews I know that lots of people really liked this book. For me though, it was just okay (and that's mostly because I think Part 1 was well-written). I would mildly recommend the book to thriller/mystery fans.

Thanks to Netgalley, the author (Jack Jordan), and the publisher (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform) for a copy of this book.

Oh, boy. Not even sure where to start with this one. I'm baffled by all the positive reviews. This was bad. Really bad. I wouldn't have even finished it if it wasn't such a short, easy read. All in all I think it took me about an hour and a half.

I hate being so critical of a book because I know a lot goes into writing one, but I'm just being honest here.

There's no character development whatsoever. It's like you're just being told the details of a story without any insight into anything that happens. The plot developments are so weak and ridiculous. It has a dark, twisted plot, which is its only redeeming quality, but literally everything that happens falls flat because the writing is so poor.

Just...no.

I'm not exactly sure what went wrong here. It's moving right along, unreliable narrator, good storyline and then halfway it's like a different writer took over. I like a fastpaced book but this got sloppy and rushed the second half. So not believable of how it ended. Totally 3-4 star for first half developing the main character, second half 1 star.

Ok. Imagine a weird, creepy blend between The Girl on the Train and Room. As I love both books, I like this one, too.

This book is hard to review, because I don't want to give away any spoilers. What I can say is that at about 50% into the book, you find out who the big bad is. And you learn some more disturbing, crucial things. But even if I hint at them, you'll already know too much. Argh! That's very frustrating.

I liked that Paige is 42 years old. That is a nice change from all the teenager/young adult heroines I've met lately. Paige is a mature woman, but a broken one. She's suffering from depression and anxiety. She's also an alcoholic. In one word, she's a mess. She even exchanges sex for pills from her GP. It is quite refreshing to see a broken woman. I know how bad that sounds, but I'm a bit tired of all the kick-arse women I've read about lately. And Paige overcomes her grief, her suffering. Not by herself, unfortunately. She's forced to change by what's happening around her.

There's also a second POV. If I tell you who that is, I'd give away too much. So I'll just let you find out who that person is for yourself. Because you should definitely read My Girl.

This is the second book I've read by Jack Jordan and again it didn't disappoint.

Paige Dawson is drinking heavily and taking prescription drugs like their sweets to try and mask the pain she's feeling as she tries to come to terms with losing her daughter and husband. Years previously her daughter had been murdered though no body had ever been found and in recent months, Paige's husband took his own life through despair. It's agony and heartbreak for Paige as her life stumbles into a massive downward spiral losing track of what is real and what is not.

Strange things start to happen within her home. Clothes missing, videos playing, strange occurrences that she swears she has had nothing to do with. Fearing madness she decides to take matters into her own hands which leads to a big twist in the book. I really didn't expect the book to take the direction that it did and though it was easy to question plausibility here, actually this kind of thing does go on in real life.... shockingly.

Jordan has written an easy page turner keeping you completely enthralled as you wonder where this is going to go. It's a relatively short book so it becomes a quick, exciting read that will keep you hooked to the very last page.

To finish I thoroughly enjoyed this one and look forward to more from Jordan. Thank you so much to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my copy.

2 stars--it was okay.

This is a quick read, and if you like the tropes of suspense novels, I think you'll enjoy this--it moved right along and never lagged. There's a twist that will keep genre readers interested.

I liked it, though I had a hard time suspending my disbelief about some of the occurrences: I also thought the "bad guy" kind of came out of nowhere with little explanation--but as I said, the book is short and clips along, so that's probably why.

I received this review copy from the publisher on NetGalley. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review; I appreciate it!

That was one fast-paced whirlwind of a ride!

My Girl is, in one word, disturbing. The book is broken into three parts, with a BIG twist I did not see coming halfway through. I have to admit, he really got me there.

I believe the author really got into the head of a mother overcome with pain after the murder of her daughter. Paige is incredibly broken, and makes a series of horribly bad decisions in order to cope, however I can completely relate to her pain as a mother myself.

As some other reviewers mentioned, there could have been a bit more character development in order to truly understand the motives behind some of the characters.

This is a quick, thrilling, utterly disturbing read. The content was a bit sensitive for me, avoid if you do not do well with violence. That being said, it is a page turner - I finished it in one sitting.

3 stars.

Thank you, Netgalley, for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My Girl is a fast paced thriller that just keeps on giving …and giving, even when you think there is nothing left to give!

I’m not going to say much about the plot, but it is one of those stories that makes you question how much you truly know those closest to you. You know the saying “crazy in love”, well this book gives that a whole new meaning.

This thriller is twisted and full on. Just when you think you’ve thought of everything, something else causes you to gasp and slap your hand across your mouth in surprise.

I highly recommend this to readers who enjoy fast paced thrillers and psychological thrillers.

I can't remember being so disappointed in a book for such a long time, especially given the half dozen good reviews I read for this book.

There is no doubt that Jack Jordan can write, but this story was nothing short of bizarre. It started strongly with an unlikelable female protagonist that was well written and intriguing. The reasons for her state of mind and her state of health explained her lack of regard for herself and life in general. Great stuff. Then strange things started to happen, but that line of suspense ended all too soon.

Then the book took this dramatic twist. I kept checking my Kindle to make sure chapters weren't missing. What a shame there was no build up to this or an insight into the dark side of the other character involved (not giving anything away here).

The book then became a "Flowers in the Attic" drama (or basement as was the case) and was often long in the 'telling' and not enough 'showing'.

I know how much a writer puts into a book and I don't like to be critical, but I'm guessing this is self-published or a publisher/editor would have tightened it up and asked more of Jack. A good manuscript assessment would achieve the same.

I won't review it on "The Reviewers" website as I'll leave the positive reviewers to carry it for Jack and I wish him success.

This is easily one of the worst books I've ever read. Have I been spoiling myself with only stellar books or is this book just way below average? Possibly a little of both. What started out as merely bad (characters, plot, dialogue) devolved into the utter ridiculous around 50% in. The only reason I continued with this book until the end is because I was provided a copy for review by Netgalley and the publisher and I take the obligation seriously.

Even for a fluff thriller or guilty-pleasure, light, easy read--I wouldn't recommend this. It just really is that bad. Undeveloped characters, horrible dialogue, and a silly and wildly implausible plot with ridiculous twists are what combine to make this such a bad book. At times, I honestly could not believe what I was reading. 1 Star because that's the lowest rating possible, unfortunately. And I don't think I've ever rated anything below 2 Stars, so that is really saying something.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Well now, where do I start?! All I really want to do is shout at you “This book is brilliantly AMAZING! Buy it NOW!” Have I convinced you yet? No? Okay then, if I have to, I will elaborate further!

Paige Dawson is a mess, she is living a life that’s no longer even a life…she is just existing. She drinks, she takes prescription drugs, she’s mentally and physically exhausted with grief. Her daughter was murdered 10 years ago, her body dismembered, and her husband couldn’t cope and killed himself. Her family has reduced to just one member…herself. But things have started to happen in her home, things she doesn’t remember doing. Is it the alcohol? The drugs? Or something much more disturbing. And why did her husband have a gun? Paige may just have something left in her psyche, enough left to track down the clues that seem to have been left behind but it’s going to take everything she has.

I loved loved LOVED this book! I gave Anything for Her 3.5*  but with this book Jack Jordan has given us a 5* jaw dropping, twisty turny thriller that proves he has a great future ahead of him. He has a natural talent for storytelling that has been honed to perfection here and I defy anyone to see where this story is heading! Once I started read it I only stopped once (comfort break) and my family have said they are sending Jack Jordan the bill for the Chinese takeaway they had to order to replace the fish pie I was supposed to have been making for tea!

I highly recommend this book and you must let me know what you think when you have read it. The first thing I did when I had finished it was to message others who had read it to discuss it further!

My thanks to the author who provided a copy of this book in return for an unbiased review.

Another great book from Mr Jack Jordan, I have to say I am a fan now for sure. This is quite a short novel at only 240 pages but do not let this deceive you there is so much to this story. Paige's daughter was horrifically murdered ten years ago and all they found of her was her arm, how very tragic. Paige then suffers another loss when her husband, distraught over his daughters death, commits suicide. Life has now become even harder, Paige is struggling with an alcohol addiction and strange things are beginning to happen. All her husbands clothes disappear from his wardrobe, in every photo album his face has been cut out and also she finds a gun in his desk draw. Paige then has many questions to answer, why would he have a gun of all things? did he know something about his daughters death and not tell her? what other secrets may he have had? This is a really enjoyable read, great plot and characters that make for a great story. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read and enjoyed Anything For Her, which is the authors debut novel, last year and really enjoyed it. I knew that the author was going to be one to watch out for and was very excited about reading his new novel, My Girl.

Anyone getting visions of the wonderful film with the same title staring Anna Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin, get that out of your head right now, as believe me there is nothing sweet and innocent about this book, at all!

The story had me right from the off and I ended up reading it in one sitting as I was well and truly hooked. This is one novel that demands your full attention and believe me it is so good that you can’t but help give it your all. It’s like that tempting packet of biscuits or family size bag of sweets that you know that once started you shouldn’t eat all at once but you can’t help but devour the lot in one go. Well this book was exactly like that. I really wanted to take my time and savour it as I was enjoying it so much but it was just to damn good to put down and before I knew it I was at the end.

With a strong beginning, I was worried the rest of the story may struggle slightly to keep up with the high standard that had been set, but it gets even better! There are some brilliant shocks and surprises in store for the reader and it really makes the adrenalin start pumping. I actually feel like an over eager child that has been told to keep something secret as it’s a surprise and I am bursting to tell everyone about it as it has got me so excited.

This is without a doubt an absolute must read for 2016. Jack Jordan is one seriously talented writer that, after reading this may also be one twisted one also. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Let me start off by saying I’m not one to gush. Fair warning, this will be a very gushy review.

I started this book last night with no intention of finishing it in one sitting. I was simply trying to unwind for the night and read just a few chapters. Well, joke is on me because I completely devoured this book in less than two hours!

Paige is such a tragedy. She’s like a train wreck that you can’t possibly tear your eyes away from. She is so damaged and broken that it’s heartbreaking. She is at the very end of her rope and is clinging onto what’s left of her sanity for dear life. And who could possibly blame her? She’s been dealt some devastating and unimaginable blows that would break even the strongest of people.

I really want to talk about this book in depth, but alas I would spoil it for everyone. Let’s just say that it is shocking, twisted and addicting. One of the twists blew my mind. I actually had to pause from reading and let what just happened sink in. I even said, no effing way! out loud. This book has a secure spot on my must read least for this year.

Keep in mind, this novel is not for the faint of heart. It’s very dark and terrifying in so many ways, but Jordan is one hell of a storyteller and his writing is compelling and totally drew me in.

My sincere thanks to NetGalley, JJP and Jack Jordan for providing an advanced review copy of 'My Girl' in exchange for an honest review.

'My Girl' proved to be an exceptionally enjoyable read. I devoured it overnight, in one sitting, mainly due to the fact that it was such an easy book to get into, and once I'd been sucked in, it was rather hard to stop reading.

The story moved at a quick pace and with 'My Girl', it was a case of 'just one more chapter' until I realised there were no more chapters left and that it was the early hours of the morning! Jack Jordan has done an excellent job of keeping the pace taut, and the tension flowing - I just HAD to know how this book was going to turn out. The tension didn't let up at all.

I enjoyed that character of Paige Dawson, a broken woman apparent on self destruct mode due to the losses and traumas she has suffered. At times, her self destructive behaviours were frustrating, but understandable. Ultimately she was a likeable character with great spirit and a fight in her.

This is the first Jack Jordan book that I have read, although I do have his previous novel on my TBR pile. I would recommend 'My Girl' to anyone who loves a thriller and this gets a solid 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me. I look forward to reading more from Jack Jordan in the future.

Wow! This book starts fast and doesn't give up. An exciting and a quite disturbing psychological thriller.

Plenty of twists and turns which develop into a very absorbing and chilling experience. The author manages to grasp his audience with his clever writing and gripping storyline.

I was lucky to win this book in The Book Club on Facebook - #TBConFB - but I would've been very happy and satisfied if I'd of paid full price for this thriller.

Brilliant stuff and looking forward to reading more from Jack Jordan.

A highly recommended 4.5*

For a young author, this guy knows how to write suspense novels! From the very first page, I was engrossed in this book. You follow the main character, Paige, and her fall from grace following the death of her family. With your head shaking at her actions, you soon get the major feels for what she is going through.

Knowing that this is a suspense thriller, the author keeps you guessing about when the actual suspense is going to start, not knowing that the whole book is loaded with deception, depraved behavior, deceit, and some seriously twisted actions.

This book is loaded with twists and turns that keep you guessing and finally cheering towards the end. For a new writer, I am impressed at the depth of character, intense situations, and finesse at creating a heart pounding read.

Paige Dawson is a broken woman self-destructing on booze, cigarettes, and pills. She lost her teenage daughter 10 years ago. Her arm the only thing that has ever been found. Now her husband has committed suicide. Then strange things occur. Simply a consequence of Paige's downward spiral? The police certainly think so.
I previously devoured Anything for Her by Jack Jordan so I was really looking forward to My Girl, and I wasn't disappointed. I read this in one sitting which, at 240 pages, wasn't that difficult. But it pulled me in from page one and was so intense with its taut pacing and writing there was little point in putting it down. And, of course, then there was THAT twist about halfway through! I had not expected the plot to go in that particular direction.
At the end, I was left with a couple of questions that I would have liked answered, but that didn't distract from my enjoyment of this dark, disturbing and utterly gripping psychological thriller.
Jack Jordan knows how to keep readers glued to the pages and I'm really impressed by his ability to get inside the mind of damaged but ultimately strong women/mothers in a convincing manner. He achieved this in Anything for Her and did it again here. This young, new author has huge potential and is definitely one to watch out for in the future.
Many thanks for my ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.
