A story about a pet unlike any other. A large egg appears in the backyard. Is it a giant canary? A large lizard? A huge turtle? It's not any of those kinds of things... It's a DINOSAUR! Follow a day filled with mayhem, excitement and fun in the life of Dino, as he causes havoc in the house, makes new friends and learns right from wrong (the goldfish is not food!). This is Diego Vaisberg's first picture book. His quirky screen-printed illustrations in red and blue are exciting, inventive and gloriously original.
Diego Vaisberg is a graphic designer and illustrator. He is the lead studio designer for DGPH and also works as a pattern designer and illustrator to INK-CO. He lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Wonderful look at what it would be like to really have a dinosaur as a pet - the art is fantastic! This is just the kind of book I would have been reading when I was in grade school; really was into dinosaurs until about the 7th grade. A very fun book that I am sure 'dino enthusiasts' will really enjoy.
Super cute book that my son and I both enjoyed. A boy finds a egg in his backyard. It might be a lizard, or a chicken...... nope it’s a. Dinosaur. What is it like to have a dinosaur live in your house .... it can get very messy! Great read for kindergarten age kids.
We have a little dino lover in the house so this picture book has been read a few times over and is loved each time.
The art is very fun with it's slightly offset image alignment and it's bold red and blue tones. The usage of only two colors really makes every image and page stand out which I think really helps the story overall. We also loved all the onomatopoeia that was tossed in. Of course dinosaurs are going to make lots of noise!
This is the perfect story book for any little dino lover. It takes us through the day of a dinosaur pet owner, up and downs and all, and gives us a glimpse of what exactly owning such an enormous pet would entail. Dinosaurs eat a lot, they grow a lot, and boy are they loud! Could you imagine having more than one? Yikes!
The unknown owner of Dino shares how a gigantic egg was found in the backyard and when it hatched a baby dinosaur, was in it. The owner shares the ups and downs and pitfalls of keeping and raising Dino. Silly humor and fun read.
Clever and imaginative book about an egg found in the backyard of a house that ends up hatching into a baby dinosaur. The baby dino has a difficult time following the rules but he is a great guard dinosaur and isn’t afraid of anything...except 🕷! 😂
This book has delightful illustrations that use only two colors with a lot of different patterns and shading that help keep it engaging and interesting to the end.

The narrator describes his or her pet dinosaur. The dinosaur has so much in common with regular pets - playing fetch, leaving his toys out, bathtime - that you could almost replace the word "dino" with "dog" and have a perfectly normal story. This comparison adds to the charm. I imagine children would be delighted to hear a dinosaur described in such a relatable way. I believe this would make a good storytime.
A very cute and silly book about having a dinosaur as a pet. I really liked the illustrations. They looked to be a type of ink printing technique with two colors; red and blue. This would make a great elementary read aloud.
A really cute book with stylized illustrations that I really enjoyed. There are plenty of picture books about pet dinosaurs, but this one has a unique flavor that I appreciate.
Summary: This story about a pet dinosaur by Diego Vaisberg is a sweet tale about a T-Rex. This particular dinosaur is very friendly and tries to make friends with other pets near it, but ends up scaring them with its loud roars. However, this T-Rex is very adventurous and tries new things, even if they do not work in the end. Analysis: This book was eventful and easy to follow. I appreciated the use of onomatopoeia to show actions and further describe the scene around it. The illustrations also followed a color palate of reds and blues which made the book consistent throughout the story. I love dinosaurs and this is a great book for any child who wants to find simple characteristics of a dino and other pets. How I can use this Book: I could use this book in my classroom if we are on a lesson about dinosaurs. In the end of the book, the picture is sideways in order to see all of the other dinosaurs that show up in the house as well. This book could be great for getting students excited to learn about dinosaurs and possibly to make them more appealing to those who do not like them.

A large egg appears in the backyard of a family and it cracks to reveal a dinosaur. As the dinosaur grows it becomes more and more difficult to keep him, an yet they make it work. But what will the family do when they find more large eggs in their yard?
The illustrations are all red and blue and the story is pretty basic. This isn’t a bad book, but there isn’t anything terribly unique or interesting about it. There is one funny moment when the dinosaur scares everyone away, only to then be scared by a spider.
One day they found a gigantic egg in their backyard. At first they thought it might be a big lizard or a huge tortoise going to come out of the shell but a big surprise when a dinosaur came out. At first it was okay because she was small but as the dinosaur grew it became difficult. They played outside as much as possible and the dinosaur was a great guard for the house because he scared everyone away and was not scared of anything but spiders. I think it was good book a lot different then anything I have ever read in the past and I did like that everything was in red white and blue. I would have this book in my class because of how unique this book is.
Dino makes the perfect pet. He guards the house, he loves to play, and he seems to really enjoy life. There is one other thing, though…as his name might imply, Dino is a dinosaur! That comes with its own set of problems. He takes up a lot of space, he has a voracious appetite, and he is super loud. Can his family find a way to make it work despite these difficulties? Dino would be a solid option for a preschool storytime about dinosaurs. Children will especially love the funny surprise at the end.
A very cute picture book about a new pet dinosaur that is reminiscent of Clifford the Big Red Dog.
This was a fun book to read. I enjoyed the red-and-blue pictures. They are a mishmash of illustrations and real-life objects, which adds a nice contrast. It was fun to see the pros and cons of having a pet dinosaur.
It's a cute books but plot wise it tends to read like a lot of other dinosaur picture books. It's about what it's like to have a dinosaur for a pet and all the mishaps that come along with it.
What I really liked about the book though was the color scheme. The entire thing is printed in red and blue and I would love to see what it'd look like through 3D glasses as it has that look to it.
I really enjoyed the red-blue illustrations and the story is basically a kid giving a show-and-tell presentation about their pet dinosaur. I say "basically" not to discount or belittle the book. This is a very sweet and simple narrative. I enjoyed it and I had a little lapsit with a child-friend of mine.
What do you do when you find an egg in your backyard? You keep it! But turns out it wasn't a bird or a lizard or a tortoise. It was a dino! I was on the fence about the illustrations mostly because they are only done in red, white, and blue...but the illustrator did a good job. Possibly good for a toddler book.
Completely silly, in the best way. Dino romps his way through the book (in only two colors, which gives it a neat feel) sowing chaos wherever he goes. And it's absolutely pointless (in that there's no message or moral) and just good dinosaur fun.
I have been looking for books for story times and this came up. Not a lot of words which is good for younger K and Pre-K kids. I will try this out and depending how the kids like it might change my review.
When a baby Dino hatches from an egg and he is kept as a pet. But Dino grows and grows until he is enormous! Even though he’s big, he’s afraid of spiders! What happens when 3 more eggs are found?
Uniquely red and blue illustrations move the story along.
3 stars only because the artwork is very pretty & has a variety of textures, patterns and styles that were so nice to soak in with my five year old. That being said, the story fell very flat up until the end where the sudden influx of dino housemates made my daughter laugh.
I LOVE everything about this book! The prose is simple and well done. The illustrative style is something I don’t see much of but ADORE. The color usage reminds me of Eva Eland’s books about happiness and sadness. 100% would recommend those two if you liked this one.
