Everyone in Miss Bilgore's third grade class loves Partner, a retired police horse. But it looks like Partner is headed for a terrible fate--pet food! Then the kids get an idea: each third grader will find odd jobs and earn money to pay for Partner's care.
I read a lot when I was a kid. I remember this book because I was walking through the school halls reading this book and some kid asked me what I was reading and said yeah he'd rent a third grader. I hadn't reach third grade yet, So i laughed it off and kept reading. Ah childhood. Vague recollection of what this book was about. Still probably a good one to look into. It's kids trying to save a retired police horse. That's cute!
Cute but not brilliant junior fiction about how a class comes together to save a beloved police horse from being turned into dog meat. Although I really don't know how it fell on the third-graders and not the whole school or community - in real life donations should have been pouring in immediately minus the whole "rent a third-grader" thing. An enjoyable read though.
My cousin lent me this book five years ago. I wasn't interested before, but yesterday when I had no book to read, I looked at this book that still in my bookshelf and decided to read this book.
This book starts when Brad, a third grader didn't want to present his report about one part of community. He was bored, and slightly tired. The first page hooked me immediately.
Well, when I finished this book and was in the last page, It's interesting how Brad could keep managed to not present his report in front of the class. When the big problem about Partner and how his class tried to earn money, I thought the writer wouldn't make Miss Bilgore remembered about Brad's report.
Fun read for the young horse loving crowd (i.e., 5 yrs olds). Occasional name-calling, but other than that a book that didn't require me to change the wording often, for which I'm grateful. The moral of the story was about coming together as a community (in this case the third grade class) and collaborating with one another to reach a common goal (in this case saving a horse). The end came together nicely. Many books at this level seem to wrap the previous 150+ pages up in a bout a page and half. This one seemed to tie up the loose ends gradually and made it seem more plausible. I'd recommend this book to even the youngest of animal lovers out there.
Rent a third grader is about a third grade class that is trying to save a horse from getting turned into cat and dog food. Mr. Snodgrass the man that kills the horses, is fighting against them because he wanted to kill the horse so that he could make more money but the class loved the horse so they did everything they could to save it. The class finally saves the horse! This story showed perseverance in the class!! This is a great book for a classroom because it shows kids how to work together, not give up on their dreams, and how to push through with perseverance! I will definitely have this book in my classroom!! Such an easy read and very kid friendly! So sweet!!
I'm reading this book with my daughter. It's pretty slow for a chapter book. My daughter like the way the community came together for a cause. Great message about solidarity.
I think this book is alot about community help witch brings kid together as they help their neighborhood by saving a very important animal! I think kids who like to help alot!
