Xavier Furgerson grew up in the rough streets of Atlanta Georgia with his grandfather and grandmother. His parents died when he was young. He dropped out of school in the tenth grade to pursue the street life. Getting shot multiple times and spending three years in prison only slowed Xavier down. He met Simone Jefferson who became his wife. Hard times found them unexpectedly and Xavier was pulled back into the cold streets to provide for his family. Will he make it out alive? Back in Jail? Or dead?
This well written and realistic book left me with some unanswered questions.
Leaving your past behind is sometimes the hardest thing that you have to do. After serving three years in prison, Xavier gets a second chance at a new beginning with Simone the love of his life and their six year old son Corey. Xavier gets a restaurant job, but the money isn't rolling in as fast as he would like. He goes back to drug dealing and when the past catches up with him, he kills Gus a mutual friend and the man that Simone had been seeing while he was locked up. In retaliation Gus' cousin shoots Xavier and several days later Simone is killed as well, leaving Corey to be raised by her parents. I didn't like the fact that just like Xavier, Corey was left without both his parents, but the author did bring forth the fact that grandparents are indeed raising children in what should be their retirement years. Who killed Simone? What happened to Xavier's grandparents'? How about a sequel featuring Corey?
I recommend this book. It's a good read that's relatable. I give it 4.5 stars because it's well played in the story, but the loss of lives is devastating.

"I Forgot To Be Your Lover" by J. Brinkley
My Speculation:
The story "I Forget To Be Your Lover" was good however rather sad in more ways than one. If only these two main characters Simone and Xavier, could have been more honest with one another, things may have been different for them and especially for their son. One is only left hoping that their son will be able to get past all that had transpired. The story will leave you seeing just how important it is to live your life as well as you can because bad decisions can cause one's life to go downward for all around.
This was a good book I just hated tht Xavier & Simone got killed I didn't like the way it ended it left a lot of unanswered questions it could have showed who killed Simone & did their son grow up to follow in his father's footsteps & get revenge for his parents murder but no instead of doing tht Jonas Brinkley chose to promote 2 other books instead mean while leaving readers wondering bout the outcome
Xavier was a man who loved his wife Simone. Simone step out while he was incarcerated and some things happen that later on both of them would live to regret. I wish Simone would have just come clean and upfront and none of this would have happened!! Now I wanna know who did this to her? I’m at a loss for words
This book was well written, it teaches you about how important the way you live is. There were a few scenes I didnt particularly care for, but even in that it all is a part of life. I would like to see what happens with the son as he gets older.
This was a sad story because of some bad choices made by Simone and Xavier reaction to it. It wasn’t worth it. I wish he would have kept it moving. Nice smooth read, i read it in just a couple of hours.
Entertaining and well written read but that ending left me with my mouth open because I didn’t see that coming. First book I’ve read my this Author but it won’t be my last. Great job Author J. Brinkley.
