The story itself is pretty good and so are the characters, but the relationship could have been deeper in my opinion.

Full Review on The Candid Cover
Suite Dreams by Rachel Hawthorne is a story about a couch swap gone slightly awry. The book is filled with winter fun, and both the main characters are likeable. This is a cute and wintry read that will leave the reader with warm feelings.
After her boyfriend suggests they take a break and signs up for a couch swap in Australia without telling anyone, Alyssa is stuck making room for a stranger in her own dorm over winter break. She slowly introduces Jude to winter in Vermont and, after some time, the two start to fall in love. I loved reading about all the winter activities Alyssa shows Jude such as skiing and snowball fights. The plot is admittedly overly cheesy, but for what it is, the book is still enjoyable.
❀ ENJOYABLE MAIN CHARACTER
I enjoyed Alyssa as a main character, and she is so generous. She goes as far as offering her own couch to a stranger when Rick’s original plan falls through and makes sure Jude has a great experience in America. She is also very studious, taking extra courses over the break. I liked how smart Alyssa is for still keeping up with school despite being presented with distractions and how she thinks things through before starting something that she isn’t sure will last. Jude is also a sweet character, but he is a little too perfect to be believable.

I really like these fun books by Rachel Hawthorne. This one is a quick read that entertains.
Alyssa is a college freshman who studies a lot and has only had one boyfriend, the one she met the day she moved into her dorm. They haven't really been on a date, just hang out together and kiss. Then winter break arrives and the said boyfriend decides to go couch surfing to Australia. And he conveniently decides to take a break from his relationship with Alyssa right before he leaves. Oh, but don't tell anyone unless we decide to get back together. I think I would have hit him! After that little performance, this "boyfriend", Rick, forgets to tell Alyssa (or anyone else for that matter) that he is actually trading couches with a hottie from Australia. The problem is that Rick didn't tell his roommate and his couch isn't available. So it falls to Alyssa to find a couch for Jude to sleep on. Isn't is nice that her couch is available.
But what is the point of starting a relationship with a guy who is only going to be here for a few weeks and then he returns to the other side of the planet. Besides, what if Rick wants to get back together when he returns? Alyssa is confused and strongly drawn to Jude. Is Jude just being polite or is he flirting with her? He has a very charming personality and a great accent that makes it hard for Alyssa to think straight.
If you enjoy a quick fun read that still has you guessing a little about how this one can possible end, then you will like this one.

Before I Read the Book
Because of the title, Suite Dreams, I thought the story was going to be about a group of girls staying at a hotel, possibly at a ski resort or something, and the protagonist meets a cute guy staying in the suite next door or down the hall from them. Not about a dorm room suite, which is admittedly a lot less exciting if you ask me...
Summary of the Story
It's winter break, and Alyssa and her boyfriend Rick decide to take a break from eachother while he travels to Australia couch surfing. What she didn't anticipate was the cute Aussie that Rick sent back to Vermont in his place.
What I Thought
I just can't get excited about a lot of the guys that come out of Rachel Hawthorne's imagination. I mean, this guy's from Australia, the land of sexy accents, and I had trouble liking him. And I had even more trouble liking Alyssa and here's why.
"You know," he began, "I have a list of a hundred things to do before I die--"
"Omigod!" My chest felt like it was caving in on itself as I gasped. "You're terminally
ill."
She never understood what people were saying, and always jumped to conclusions, especially when it concerned Jude. I mean he's Australian, not Japanese. There isn't that much of a language barrier, just saying.
And again.
"He was telling me about a shark attack--"
"Omigod!" I blurted before Boomer could finish the tale. "You were attacked by a
shark?"
CAN YOU JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP ALYSSA AND LET OTHER PEOPLE TALK

I'm Aussie and despite some well used terms of Australian slang used in the book, I just dont think I've ever heard anyone refer to the telly (TV) as the box before. I mean we call it telly and yes Oz sounds about right, but sometimes I think that the writer is going OTT in making Jude too Aussie (if there is such a thing). But other than that I liked the story.
Alyssa is sweet and studious, she just found out that her college boyfriend is going on a couch surfing (which by the way is actually a real life website) expedition to Australia for the whole winter break, and oh btw he also wants to cool off, giving him more time to rethink their relationship. Then a true bue Aussie comes along, think foreign exchange student style, except the only exchange was their couches, and he's actually on a vacation..
Jude is absolutely awesome, he seems real enough, adventurous and absolutely perfect for Alyssa, but she's conflicted about the time that he will be spending and how much is left of it. Is she willing to go for it and accept what she truly feels despite it all, or will she succumb to what is comfortable for her and continue to study as a way of denying her emotions. You just have to read it to know =))

The story was nothing like I imagined it would be based on the title. I thought it was about a girl who worked at a ski lodge or something. In actuality, the main character Alyssa is a college student staying at the school over winter break so she can take more classes. Her boyfriend has gone to Australia on a couch swapping program and has sent the guy he swapped with to Vermont in his place.
Overall this was pretty cute. I liked how carefree and fun Jude was. He really helped to bring Alyssa out of her comfort zone. They had a lot of sweet moments together. I also enjoyed that there wasn’t a love triangle.

I have so much to say for a surprisingly short book. This book had some enjoyable moments, but it definitely wasn't my favorite of the Hawthorne books I've read.
Jude was nice and thoughtful and so, so sweet, but also, a little too perfect? Like, the whole book, he just did wonderful things and never messed up. Don't get me wrong. I love that he was so wonderful, but he seemed less human this way. I just needed him to make ooooone little mistake. Just one.
As well, there was some insta-love going on here which I wasn't thrilled about. I'm not a fan of insta-love and this book was the epitome of it. Everything just moved so quickly in their relationship. I had hoped the conflict would make it feel more real, but even the conflict wasn't great. It felt like the author was really reaching, trying to fit *some* kind of conflict in there. It didn't feel super thought out. Maybe if the book had been a little longer, there would have been time to cultivate Jude and Alyssa's relationship, as well as, the conflict of the book. idk.
Lastly, what was the point of Stephanie's character? Stephanie was Alyssa's roommate that was staying there over break, as well. But, I couldn't figure out why she was included in the story. Towards the middle of the book it seemed like she was going to be apart of the end conflict, but then she just...disappeared. I'm just really confused about her.
Despite all of these things, I somewhat enjoyed reading this book. There was some romantic charm and cliche bits, which I always love. Many things could have been improved, but I still enjoyed this book for the most part.

If you’re looking for an easy read with a simple plot and a cute romance with some tingling moments included, Suite Dreams is the book for you. I don’t have much to say about this, the story is not deep or meaningful or anything like that and the romance is not overwhelmingly beautiful but still, the story was fun. Simply some light reading material, perfect for a summer day on the beach.

Can Jude walk on water? No? He seems to do everything else perfectly so I just thought he could do that too.

Needed something to read while my phone was charging, this seemed like a good idea, light and fluffy, the word seemed being a key word. After finishing it I wished I had decided to do anything else but read this.
• The writing was too simple.
• As the pages went by I started to get annoyed because the main male character was so perfect! He did this, he did that. I get that people can be good at more than one, two things, but here it felt too much.
• He decided to go to a cold, snowy country, over the ocean because of a pretty girl! What? Does that seem as a good idea? I mean, he did get the girl at the end (I don’t think that’s a spoiler, actually that’s expected to happen solely after reading the synopsis), but going to her country after only seeing her picture… yeah.

This book was okay. It started out interesting and the scene where Jude and Alyssa met was funny. I think I've just outgrown this writing style. If I was younger, I think I would've liked it better. For two college students, the dialogue seemed a bit too young. I also didn't think there was much to the writing. The major plot points were pushed to the end, and it made the ending seem rushed. That being said, I didn't think there was any "major conflict" in this book. I'm glad I read this book because it was on my TBR for a while. I just don't think it's my cup of tea anymore.

This book was cute for what it was. It was a cheese ball factory with convenient and paper-thin twists, and with diction that felt oddly out of place in a novel set in a State. But Jude was a sweet guy. I did notice a lot of similar phrases used in this book as in the last book I read by this author.

Alyssa met Rick at her first semester and they became a couple right away. Their relation ship was comfortable, but then he left her and went on vacation to Australia while she's going to spend her winter break alone.
Although Alyssa recognize she wasn't totally in love with Rick, she still feels bad. She wanted to be like her parents, who found each other at school.
While she's dealing with that, Jude, the sexy Australian guy, comes looking for her. He exchanged couches with Rick, but his couch is already taken, so he will have to stay with her.
From the beginning Jude is sweet and protective with her. He likes to be with her and do things together, and it's obvious he likes her. He's very funny and Alyssa feels good with him. Oh, and Jude is hot. Very hot.
Little by little they become closer, and even when they have everything against them, they can help but fall in love.
Suite Dreams is a very short and cute book. It's lovely and has an open happy ending. I recommend it for those days when you just want to read something light, happy and romantic.

En fin, como siempre el final quise mas, aca SI que quise mas pero fue muy bonita la historia.

omg i loved it soooo much it was a different story than most of her books

A fun and quick one! Again, it’s the setting and general concept that sold me. A fairly abandoned college campus in snowy Vermont over a three week winter break? Sounds good to me. Very seasonal and lots of winter fun included, so I loved reading this with 6 inches of snow outside my window. I thought the “couch swap” gone wrong concept was fun, and most of the characters were likeable. As usual with Hawthorne books, it was the female protagonist that was annoying and unrealistically clueless. I also saw ZERO need for one “relationship” and I don’t like how the initial relationship officially came to an end. The lack of communication between “people madly in love” in these books is what bothers me at the core, I think.

Rachel Hawthorne's books were my gateway drug into reading. As a 7th grader who craved the sizzling romance akin to that found in a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie, Rachel Hawthorne's books were my crack. And so what book do I go for when I haven't feasted on a good love story in a long time and I'm in the mood to swoon? A Rachel Hawthorne book of course! Unfortunately, after ten years of growing up and a creative writing degree later, I just can't be satisfied by this fluff. The story was cute, but the romance was unrealistic and the characters were paper thin. Oh well, what can you expect from such a short book? It's better than Sarah Dessen.

This was actually amazing! Literally the best Rachel Hawthorne book! No sexism (yay!), a guy who has real feelings (woo-hoo!), and a non-annoying main character a girl can relate to (jackpot!). It was also so comedic with amazing one-liners. I don't know if this is the last book (in this vibe, in the pen-name) that she wrote, but she did save the best for last. (And yay to me because I read all her cute little reads that have the same vibe, I don't know how else to describe them!) PPS did you like my aggressive exclamation points!

I loved this book. I read so much of this author when I was a freshman in high school and I was so happy when I stumbled across one of her books at my work. I dove in head first to this book and I was not disappointed. The light fun romance. The silly mistakes. The totally avoidable situations they get themselves into. I am defiantly going to read more of these cheesy romance novels in 2o20.

Another cute and funny read by Rachel Hawthorne. I love the lightness of her stories and the quirkiness of her characters. Coincidentally, it’s freezing outside, so this is a great, fun romance to curl up with with some tea or hot cocoa.

I needed a fluffy, quick read after all the emotions of Kingdom of Ash. It was predictable but cute and definitely an easy read. If you are looking to take your mind off of something and need a story to just wrap itself up with a bow perfectly at the end, this is it!

Probably more of a 3.5 star. But I gave it 4 stars just because of how much I enjoyed it! Quick easy romantic winter read. The characters are adorable and fun and they do lots of wintery activities!

Cute book, exactly what I needed a happy little story. The only part I rolled my eyes at was the very very end. If they wouldn't have said that I would have been ok. 3.5 stars overall.
