Brick (Lords of Carnage MC) is the next installment in this MC series, and is Brick (Gavin Malone) and Sydney's (Violet Sydney Banner) story. While there is a definite instant attraction between Brick and Sydney, but both have strange pasts, and Sydney is keeping her cards close to her chest as her professional gambler father taught her. Brick had a horrible childhood, and was separated from his sister when he was 11 as his father was sent to prison, and his mother just wasn't capable of caring for them. Brick has pretty much closed himself off to the idea of successful relationships, and Sydney has never had the time of the inclination. Her closest relationship was Devon, and she was on his gambling team. When her father died she decided she needed a new beginning, and moved to Tanner Springs to start over. She knew Devon was romantically interested in her, if that's what you would call it. She also knew he had been skimming money from what the team made, so she took what she felt was her share of his skimming and left.
Sydney opens the Golden Cup coffee shop, and she begins to settle into life in Tanner Springs. She interacts with the customers, but just doesn't have the time for socializing. Brick goes into the shop, and is immediately drawn to Sydney, and points out how woefully lacking the shop is in security, and steamrolls Sydney into letting him install some cameras and alarms for her. Sydney is no shrinking Violet, and she stands her ground, but knows a losing battle of stubborn wills when she sees one where Gavin is concerned.
The two begin and affair, and Brick is in over his head before he even really realizes it. Sydney is getting threatening texts from Devon, even after she changed her number, and she is slightly concerned but feels Devon will not hurt her so she just ignores the texts and doesn't tell Brick either. Brick confesses his club is having some serious problems, that he can't explain, but he wants to keep her safe at all costs, and see her when he can. The problems the club is having escalate, and so do Sydney's problems with Devon. Brick sees some guy kissing Sydney, and he loses it! He doesn't want to see her anymore, he doesn't trust her, she lied, and on and on. He won't even let Sydney explain, and what Sydney does know is that those security cameras are hooked into Brick's phone, and he knows what happened, and he beat Devon for it too. But here in the story is where I start to have some issues. Devon didn't strike me as the kind of guy that would be beaten into giving up Sydney and his precious money. Further if Brick really saw what was happening, then why did he fly off the handle without letting Sydney explain. Fear, stubborn male pride, what?
Brick brought Sydney to the clubhouse before everything turned sour, and everyone was amazed because this was so unlike Brick. He never cared much one way or another for any one particular woman. So, Sydney must be really special. When he stops seeing Sydney everyone in the club has an opinion about what a idiot Brick is being, and that sets him further in his stubborn stance! But then things begin to bother Brick, mainly that he didn't give her the chance to explain, and that he is no longer finding the solitude of his lake house because Sydney isn't there with him.
Brick does sort everything out with Sydney, and she embraces his MC family, and they are renovating the lake house together, but it sort of all just fizzled out at the end. I also question why he never went after his sister Kessa who was left in the system just like he was. He doesn't strike me as that kind of guy! So many loose ends, and not enough action tying it all together. I just felt cheated out of what could have been a really amazing story. Yes, the sex was hot, and the back and forth interaction between Brick and Sydney was good, but so much was missing! Hoping the rest of the series ties everything and all their issues together!
Brick is the third book in the Lords of Carnage series by Daphne Loveling.
Gavin "Brick" Malone was the typical big and sexy biker that had a difficult childhood and didn't believe in love, let alone a forever love.
Sydney Banner was the beautiful owner of the new coffee shop in town. She fled Atlantic City to start a new life. She met Brick when he started coming into her shop.
I liked the premise of the story. I also liked that it wasn't insta-love but was a developed relationship and friendship built from the original attraction. Loveling set the stage well in the first half of the book, detailing each personality as well as giving us a glimpse of the upcoming challenges in each life. I wouldn't have minded it moving slightly faster, but I appreciated the buildup and understanding each mindset.
The story was well written and well developed with only a few editing errors. It also included a suspenseful MC plot. The conclusion was somewhat anti-climatic but I'm expecting the MC challenges to carry over into the remaining books of the series.
All in all, it was enjoyable and entertaining. Loveling continued to bring our past favorites into the storyline as well as provide teasers for future stories. Gunner is next but I'm also hopeful that we'll get Angel's story soon.
Brick, you ninny. Why did you have to be such a pansy-ass and ruin things for me? I was really enjoying the book, until about 3/4 of the way through, when you turned into the world's biggest hypocrite and left Sydney in the dust. The only word that comes to mind when I think of you is "ninny," you ninny. This story was going toward the top of my like list - now it's toward the bottom of my spare-yourself-and-don't-read-again list.
Sydney was a good female lead, I thought. Only problem is: she didn't make Brick/Gavin grovel. Make him hurt, girlfriend. Let him stew in his own misery and stupidity for a bit, then forgive him and take him back, but never before then.
Overall a well-written book, but Brick really did just ruin things for me. What a kill joy. Sap-master. Whatever. Also, what a crappy ending with no preamble. At least give me some warning that things are gonna expire before you cut me off (talking about before the epilogue, because let's face it, there wasn't much of one.) 'Nuff said.
I purchased the boxset of the first 4 books in the Lords of Carnage Series by Daphne Loveling and I am hooked on this series already! I am currently reading book 4, Gunner, and I can already tell that I'll be reading more by Daphne Loveling! While I enjoyed Brick, I did feel that Brick and Sydney didn't have quite as much chemistry as the previous 2 books characters. I wasn't that crazy with how quickly he pushed her away over what I felt what a silly argument, but I won't go into that any further because I don't like to write spoilers in my reviews. I will say that I still love the Lords of Carnage and still love the underlying story Loveling weaves in about the other secondary characters and plots. We know there is more going on with the other members of the Lords and the Iron Spiders. I cannot wait to get more from this series and see what she has in store for them! Definitely recommend it for all MC and romance lovers!
What's not to love about an alpha male biker who is overprotective toward his girl. Brick is fierce, loyal, protective and crazy about Sydney. Sydney is feisty, independent, loving and crazy about Brick. Sit back and watch the sparks fly. Loved it.
Didn’t think sweet would be used to describe Brick, but as he’s fighting the pull towards Sydney he is sweet to her. It’s a shame he’s such an alpha, but he finds his sense in the end.
I loved this book. Brick was awesome and fierce when he wanted to be. Sydney and him made a great hot couple. This is the first book I have read from this author and I will be reading more!
This series is really finding it's stride and I am enjoying it more and more. You know danger and/or change is on the horizon and the author gives us a little more with each story.
This is the 3rd book in the Lords of Carnage series, and I am getting less impressed with them as they go on. I am finding myself more interested in the biker gang plot lines than the romances of each novel, but not a lot of time is spent on that aspect.
The romance in this book is similar to the others - Brick is the alpha male who doesn't believe in love but falls for the girl anyway. We are told over and over again that Sydney is a tough and fiesty independent woman, but actually turns out to be the same cookie cutter female lead who actually isn't tough, fiesty or independent and needs saving the majority of the time. Although the circumstances are all different, each book in the series so far has had a female lead who we are told is independent but actually isn't, and needs saving by their respective male lead counterpart. From the blurb on book four, it looks like the same thing will happen there.
One thing that really frustrated me was the lack of smarts and self awareness Sydney has. She divulges important security details about how she runs her coffee shop when she first meets Brick and still has no idea who he is (i.e. how much cash is left overnight, do you close by yourself, do you have security cameras etc) - which is just asking for the joint to be robbed. She later lets him buy and install security cameras without any verification, and he then sets up the cameras to feed directly to his smartphone (not hers!!). I know this is so that Brick can view the feed and rush to save the day at the end of the book, but all it does is add one more thing to the 'Sydney's an idiot' list.
Overall, I'm not very impressed with the lack of character for the women in this series, and I'm not impressed by the same macho alpha male story line too. I get that they are bikers that need to be manly, but there isn't much to differentiate them and that is dull.
I feel the author could do a lot to pad the book out with more of the biker club plot and giving the women a real character arc.
“BRICK” is an awesome motorcycle romance story!!!!!! It can absolutely be read as a standalone but is an amazing addition to the series called, “Lords of Carnage”!!!!!!!!!!! I love how each of the stories written by Daphne Loveling flows beautifully. Each story focuses on a member of the MC where the story is mostly independent from each book. When you read each book within the series you get to invested into the family of the MC (sounds crazy I know but their it is).
Brick aka Gavin is one of the main characters in the story. I imagined him to be tall, dark, and handsome!!!! As in ice cream on a stick!!!!!!!!! Yum!!!!!! He came across as a very strong minded person who I wanted to reach into the book and KICK his booty at a particular point in the book!!!!! He was not being very fair to Sydney! In Brick’s defense, he had a lot going on with the chaos in the MC and the turn of events that occurred with Sydney when the evil Devon showed up!!!! Who is Devon you ask? Well you have to read the story to find out!!!!
Sydney was another main character in this amazing story!! She is a beautiful woman with interesting past just trying to start fresh and leave the past in the wind!!!!! I personally think she was doing an excellent job even though Gavin had his domineering opinion on the subject!
Anyway, the story was FANTASTIC! The suspense was really good with some spikes here and there. Great connections with the characters. Everything made sense. Story was written where you could visualize the chaos going with the motorcycle clubs or when Sydney was attacked!!! I think this should absolutely get more than 5 stars!!! I hope to read more in the future with this series!!!!!!
This story is a great addition to the Lords of Carnage MC series. When Gavin “Brick” Malone spies the owner of the new coffee shop in Tanner Springs, his interest is piqued. The petite and feisty woman awakens all sorts of protective instincts in him. He knows there is more to her story than she lets on. She’s holding something back about starting new in a small town, but he won’t press his luck. When a crime wave hits Tanner Springs, Brick does everything he can making sure Sydney and her shop are safe.
At 25, Sydney Banner came to Tanner Springs trying to leave her past. Her life of being raised by a father whose profession was a gambler wasn’t easy for Sydney, but he did his best. He’d taught her all the tricks of the trade, and it came in handy when things got worse from him being sick. With his passing, she never expected her life would take a spiraling turn in the fast world of professional gambling. But She head made her choice leaving that world behind, though not without fear of her past catching up to her.
Both Brick and Sydney have issues with trust, and it’s not easy going for them as their blossoming relationship comes at a time when the MC is handling a possible war against a rival MC that is causing problems for the Lords of Carnage. And Sydney is torn about revealing the truth about her past, she doesn’t want Brick to worry. But things take a twist: her past finds her, and Brick feels betrayed. I love how they finally work through the issues and getting to what’s important to them, a chance at love. Lots of steamy scenes and suspenseful MC action.
I received and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Order up: Black coffee, a blueberry muffin, and Sydney's heart.
I received an Advance Reader Copy for Brick: Lords of Carnage MC written by Daphne Loveling and voluntarily reviewed this book. Sydney Banner left her life in Atlantic City all behind to start fresh in Tanner Springs, opening the Golden Cup only full-service coffee shop in town and loving it. Ex-Marine Gavin “Brick” Malone is a customer she definitely has noticed in her morning lineups, and he is not too tough to shy away from her blueberry muffins, either.
Brick’s MC has been the target of much attention from the newly hired mayor - a man who was elected because he wanted to rid the town of bad elements - namely his MC. Only lately, there has been a rash of what appear to be escalating crimes on business properties, and Brick becomes concerned with the safety of Sydney and her shop. He offers his services to install safety measures around and in her shop, and slowly works his way into her heart, even though that was not his intention. He, in turn, allows her into his life, home, and heart, but he was unwilling to admit to himself that she meant anything to him, simply because he did not trust in love. When increasingly ominous club happenings and Sydney’s past put their relationship to the test, just how will everything work out for them, especially when you have a stubborn Brick who refuses to see into his own heart?
A great continuation of the Lords of Carnage MC, with familiar characters and another stubborn & sexy bad boy who is so used to being alone, he doesn’t know that what he really needs is Sydney to be completely in his life.
Gavin "Brick" Malone has seen the worse of relationships, first with his parents and then his friend's lie of a marriage. He now believes love is a lie we tell ourselves to make us feel better about life and relationships. That is, until he meets Sydney Banner. Sydney has been burned before and is still paying for that lapse in judgment, but there's something about Gavin. She's been alone for a long time, so she doesn't know how to take his need to protect her. She was taught by her father to be independent and trust no one. Despite that, she has to admit to herself that it's nice to feel valued and cared for. The two have learned to be independent and solitary individuals, but they can't stay away from each other. However, Sydney's past isn't finished with her yet. Plus, the Lords still have a target on their backs and they need to find out who's trying to hurt their family and livelihood. The MC plotline builds from the previous books, so I do recommend reading the series from the beginning. Though, there's brief overview, you may not fully comprehend the conflicts the MC are dealing with. Also, reading the previous books will help understand the relationship dynamics between the characters better. The Lords of Carnage series is a very good series, and I recommend all three books.
Brick: Lords Of Carnage MC series Review – 4.5 Stars – It will leave you captivated and wanting more!
Daphne Loveling’s Brick is the latest installment in the Lords Of Carnage MC and yet again she does not disappoint. The story revolves around Gavin “Brick” Malone an ex-Marine and Enforcer for the Lords Of Carnage MC and Sydney Banner, the independent, feisty and sassy owner of the Golden Cup, Tanner Springs’ only full-service coffee shop. She is escaping her past and from the moment he sees Sydney, he knows that he can’t escape her!
The storyline is excellently crafted with fully developed characters that are complex and engaging and continually draw the reader in. There are suspenseful twists along the way and I love how Daphne interweaves the other characters from previous novels (as well as some new ones) into the storyline. As with Daphne’s other works, the chemistry between the lead characters starts smoldering and becomes blistering hot! This is another excellent addition to the series and I can’t wait for the next installment in this outstanding series. An absolute must read!!!
Note: I would like to note that I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This does not, in any way, affect my opinion of the book.
>>>>>I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Review Copy of this book<<<<< This is the third book of the Lord of the Carnage MC series. Gavin "Brick" Malone is your typical biker, the club enforcer, an ex-Marine, a alpha male badass with a history of childhood issues. He meets Sydney Banner, the new owner of a bakery shop "the Golden Cup" in Tanner Springs with a golden hands, baking pastries. Brick attraction to Sydney was unusual and unexpected for him due to his previous occurrence. Sydney life hadn't been one to be joyful over as well. Her decision to moved from a glamorous life in Atlantic City was in disguise with deep secrets that was dangerous and deadly. There are twists and turns of this book that will leave you wanting to read further for answers. The author reveals the MC outs and ins with their normal decision to be legal in their everyday dealings was amazing. Daphne does an exceptional job of writing a great story with well-developed characters solving real-life problems. It was great reading about the others club members and their family future as well. I look forward to read about the next club member in this series.
Brick is former military and a member of the Lords of Carnage MC. He has been spending his mornings visiting the new coffee shop in town because of the beautiful owner. One day he stays and talks to her when a small fire breaks out in the kitchen and he helps put it out. Now his is struggling with some strong protective feelings. Sydney is new in town but her past his trying to follow her. She used to be a professional gambler and card counter working for a team. She found out that the team organizer is cheating them so she steals her money back and uses it to move and start her coffee shop. She is enjoying her new life but keeps getting threatening messages for her own boss. She is very attracted to Brick but his bossiness and over-protectiveness is driving her nuts. Brick and Sydney have a lot to deal with between her past and the war between the Lords of Carnage and a rival gang. Brick is cautious about getting involved with Sydney because he is afraid she will become a target. This is a good book with some drama and action. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
Brick, book 3 of the Lord's of Carnage MC series by Daphne Loveling, further cements my love for this series and it's talented creator. Daphne's characters continue to evolve and devlope just like you expect to see with people in real life. The town continues to grow and new people find their way into the community. And the rivalry between the different motorcycle groups fuels the action and plot of this entertaining series.
Once again, Daphne has written a romance that burns up the sheets as another member of the club meets the love of his life. Against all odds, enforcer Brick finds himself loving a newcomer to town, the coffee shop owner, Sydney. There is no denying the chemistry between these characters, even though Brick tries hard! Daphne's brillant writing brings you up close and personal with Brick, Sydney and all the drama the Lords of Carnage are involved in. It is like having the best seats in the house for a Broadway show!
I can't wait to move on to Gunner's story, in the next addition to the series. And since the series is part of Kindle Unlimited, there is no need to wait for next month's paycheck to order it!
Brick, the enforcer for the Lords of Carnage MC is about to meet the love of his life. Sydney, the owner of the new coffee shop in town, is the woman he falls for. When these two come together the chemistry is hot, but Sydney has secrets and they begin to unravel. Sydney's past is catching up to her and it isn't one she can handle by herself. Brick has already walked away from her feeling as if she has betrayed him. For Brick, there is more going on than just his interest in Sydney. The Lords are getting ready to go after a rival club that is causing trouble and he makes the club his first priority. The book was a bit tame at times as many MC books can be a bit brutal when it comes to rival clubs. Overall I liked Brick and Sydney's story and they do have their HEA. Recommended reading as I look forward to the next book in the 'Lords of Carnage MC' series. I would like to thank the author for gifting me "Brick:Lords of Carnage MC". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 4.25 Stars!
I absolutely loved the latest from Daphne Loveling! The Lords of Carnage are back and this time it's Brick who will find the woman who will change everything. When Brick walks into Golden Cup and sees the beauty behind the counter he finds himself stopping in more often than he thought he would. When Sydney decided to head to Tanner Springs and open the Golden Cup she had sworn off relationships and was focused on standing on her own two feet, what she never expected was Brick and the feelings he stirs in her. The closer they become the more both their pasts will come back to haunt what they have found. Brick and Sydney's story is hot, frustrating and full of adventure and I was hooked from the first page. I love the Lords of Carnage series and can't wait to see what else is in store for this brotherhood. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Brick is the third book in the Lords of Carnage Series. The Lords of Carnage are a Motorcycle Club. They are in a small town where some of the town likes having them there and others don’t. Brick had a troubled past and does not expect to find love and trust with a woman.
Sydney has just moved into town and opened a coffee shop. She lives and breathes her own business and does not have time for anything else. She is carrying a secret past and has purposely moved away to start all over again. Then she meet Brick. Brick who doesn’t take a no answer! He is pushy and really seems to have feelings for Sydney.
Brick was not my favorite of all the MC guys, but none-the-less the story was good and I really like Sydney’s story. I found that I am really enjoying this series and am liking the opportunities for more stories to come. Brick was a good read.
I am loving all these bikers, of the Lord of Carnage, they are big, bad and tough . Then they meet their match and poof they become mush, Brick I think is my favorite he fell hard and didn't even release it. Sydney is a stubborn red head that owns and operates The Golden Cup a new coffee shop. She meets her match when Brick keeps coming in and eventually works his way into her life. I love how all Alpha Protective he went on her. She has a shady past that she is running from, and Brick has some mayor issues going down with a rival MC and thing get messy.Especially when they both are trying to protect each other. Nothing like reading about two bull headed people who collide. I happily agreed to read this ARC to share my thoughts.
This is the 3rd book in the Lords of Carnage series. The books don't have to be read in order but it does help with understanding the dynamics. I love Daphne's books! She is really able to bring these characters and emotions to life. The story is filled with danger, new beginnings, love, heartbreak and fear. You might even shed a tear or two with this one. Awesome book! Can't wait to see what else she brings to this series, would love to read about Angel! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Hero, Brick = 5/5 Heroine, Sydney = 5/5 Chemistry = 5/5 Sex = 5/5 Plot = 4/5 Mystery = 3/5 Action = 3/5 Darkness = 3/5 Humor = 1/5 POV = both Would I recommend this book = yes Would I re-read this book = yes Would I read future books by this author = yes
WOW!!! I want more!! This series is FANTASTIC!! Brick & Sydney have a different kind of story...refreshing to see. Also enjoyed to see prior characters from the first 2 books grow & change....definitely read them in order (but the author does a great job explaining if you do read them out of order) I cannot wait for more...I need to know what happens with the club Pres & VP... Something I really enjoyed about this author is that there are so many side characters that have such depth & character ...this book isn't only about Brick & Sydney, there are also wonderful little characters in this story too (Pastry grumpy old man...hilarious) HEA Yeah!!! NO cliffhanger yeah!!! Definitely would recommend!!! Great entertainment!!!
Brick is the third book in the Lords of Carnage MC series. Brick is the MC's enforcer who is an ex Marine who is jaded after witnessing acts of betrayals in the relationships of his friends and family. He has chosen a life on his own rather than let anyone in. Sydney is an ex gambler who is starting over while running from a dangerous past.
This book was very well written and conveyed the struggles of two people who have been by themselves opening up to others. It has some comedy, danger, and love all wrapped up in a steaming pile of hurt feelings and acceptance.
I cannot wait for book 4. I would recommend this author to anyone looking for a good MC novel.
I chose this book because this was a really great book. I loved each and every one of the characters. Oh I take that back at it like the mayor too much. The boys of the motorcycle gang Lords of Carnage were some very interesting guys they were also rough around the edges. I know one thing they don't take no mess. They were all about the brotherhood. They had their brothers backs. And their women's backs as well. They were very loyal. Brick he was the enforcer. He did what he had to do. He made him a nice young lady. This is a really good book. All of the books that I've read so for about the Lords of carnage have been good. I recommend this book to all readers romance and otherwise.
I liked Brick, this story was a little different than the others. Brick is bossy, brooding and dark. Sydney is the leading lady and I liked her character as well. I liked that the author slowly builds their relationship from lust to love. Their relationship is slow in coming, both characters are stubborn, they both only rely on themselves, their was no trust in the beginning of their relationship. I enjoyed the journey the author takes them on to learn trust, love and to let their guard down. I highly recommend this series, this could be read as a standalone but I suggest reading Ghost and Hawk first. I am hoping Angel gets a story soon, there is something mysterious about him. Happy Reading!!!
The ongoing war with The Spiders MC is really boring and it’s dragging out across the series!
I keep reading this series as parts of it I love. Other parts like the never ending war with the Spiders Mc is dragging on and on! And there’s parts of these books that are missing. Like they’re kissing on the couch and then they’re on the bed! Ay??? How did they get there? Ryder is fleeing from her ex boss/ lover and that part of the story is over really quickly.
It just feels like it really drags in places but then is rushed in others. Bizarre! Having said all that, the sex scenes are mega hot and I liked the build up. I’m still going to read the next book as well as I want to know what happens.
Sydney owns the coffee shop in town. Brick comes into her shop because he need coffee because his coffee maker is broke he get coffee and a blueberry muffin. But he see something he likes better. Sydney! Now two to three times a week he comes in for coffee. The town is having some robbers and Brick wants to make sure Sydney is protected so he stops to talk to her and while there a small explosion happens in her kitchen after they put it out Brick almost kisses her but then he makes her agree for him to put up security cameras to help protect her. And that’s how they get involved but things from her past will disrupt their relationship and also some thing with his club. So enjoy the read and see if these two can get a HEA!!
Brick is the third book on the Lords of Carnage MC and boy is this series amping up. Brick, aka Gavin Malone, falls for the local bakery shop owner Sydney Banner. Their chemistry is magnetic but both of them have had a rough life and neither holds much stock in love. Their thoughts on love make getting to their happily ever after a truly steamy romantic emotional rollercoaster ride. In addition, things with the MC and the town are growing even more tense and the Lords of Carnage have to do something about it. Their next move leads to dramatic MC action.
Brick is page turner with drama, humor, ,MC action, and lots of intense steamy romance. I read it in one sitting.
