One freakish storm... The weather had been playing havoc and now a solar storm was on the horizon. While many wouldn't have even realized this had it not been in the news, for a few people it was creating chaos in their lives.
Two friends and colleagues... Justin Woods is a bear shifter caught up in the solar storm in a way he never wanted. With a new ability to read minds, he's finding out friends aren't really friends and his girlfriend doesn't really love him. Kimber Haze is a childhood friend that now works for Justin, and according to his new mind-reading ability, the only one that really loves him.
When the storm dies down and Justin no longer has his powers, will he be able to use what he came to learn to better his life or is the bear shifter destined to be alone?
*This is a standalone novella with a happily ever after ending. It is intended for mature readers and features explicit scenes and language*
Solar flares cause animals to act as if they are telepathic, and Kimber wants her boss Justin to donate a grant to the study, which Justin refused. Justin is a very wealthy man who dates a gold digger, Elle, who is always rude to Kimber. Elle has planned a lavish birthday party for Justin and wants Justin to go to their friend Joss's premiere. He doesn't want to go and lets her use his private jet. Kimber has loved Justin since they were in school together, but he never noticed. The solar flares started affecting him and his bear at his birthday party, and he thinks he is losing his mind. He hears that nobody at the party even liked him, just his money. When he walks past Kimber he can hear that she is worried about him and wishes he would be happy. He has to get away from the party and sneaks through the garage area and gets to the woods where he strips and changes to his bear. His eyesight is not good as a bear, but his sense of smell is good enough to pick out different people so he can hear their thoughts and match them up to each person. Elle is only with him for all his money and connections and is pissed he has disappeared from the party she worked so hard on. Justin snaps and destroys his party and growls at his guests. He gets shot at and it hurts like hell. He enters the house and Kimber wants to help him and all he can hear from her is how much she cares about him and wants to take care of his wound. He tells Kimber he needed to get away from the party and walked into a branch. Kimber doesn't call him out on it, but he hears that she notices his jacket and shirt are undamaged. Monday morning he has Kimber call the scientists back so he can fund them, and invites her to lunch and asks her to invite her sister so he can invest in her startup. He dumps Elle, who has video of him turning into a bear and is blackmailing him. He volunteers as a test subject at the facility and then tells and shows them he can turn into a bear, and the readouts prove the solar flares are allowing him to read minds. How will he tell Kimber what he is and have her accept him, when she caught him out with Elle when he was supposed to be working at home? Will he pay off Elle, or rip her apart in a bear attack?
Justin sucked as a shape shifter as a person. If that solar storm hadn't heightened his abilities he'd never found out they he's a horrible person who treated a very good woman disrespectfully for years. I just couldn't be that obtuse and naive in real life to not see a man like that for what he is a selfish jackass. Maybe he deserved the benefit of the doubt but not at the expense of a good woman's character like Kimber. Elle and him deserved each other thank the dialogue this is a fictional story lol!
I got this book free on Insafreebie. Justin is a very wealthy bear shifter. Kimber is a friend and employee. They go through about a week of solar storms and Justin finds he can read minds. This changes his life dramatically. The author use of imagination runs wild in this novella. The reader will get to imagine more than what is in the novella.
Kimber and Justin grew up together. He was the popular one; she was the wallflower. Working together brought their hearts together. Good story. Could have been edited better. Transition between scenes was bad. Double take everytime.
I really liked this book. It has a shifter romance with a unique plot. The characters are well developed and easy to like all but one. It is a fast read that I recommend
It wouldn't have been a bad quick read except that sometimes changing paragraphs jumped you forward in time without any notice ie no " A little later..." or "That evening...".
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review....... I'm so sorry that I didn't review this sooner because I didn't know that it was now on Amazon. I really enjoyed this book because it was unique, and I liked the style of writing which was from different points of view. Justin was an arrogant noncaring person who was engaged to another arrogant, noncaring, selfish and evil woman. However, his assistant, who is also a long time friend, Kimber, has a crush on him and always has. Spoiler..... When he scoffs at the idea of donating to the science of how solar storms affect animals, it soon affects him. His fiance throws a huge birthday party for him (with his money ), and as he's walking through the room he notices that he can read minds. He also notices that nobody likes him, except Kimber. It changes him and well,,, nature takes it's course. So much more happens and I was definitely pulled into the story. The characters were depicted well and the story was superbly executed. I loved that Justin could read minds because usually a story will have pages and pages of somebody's thoughts instead of them just saying what they're thinking. It's a personal pet peeve of mine. :) However, since Justin could hear everyone's thoughts he could just either answer them, or deal with it somehow. To me it moves the story along so much better, and he knows who he can trust, or not trust. Yes, this was a wonderful read, and also an incredible escape. :) I want to read more from this author, and more and more. :D Fascinating fantasy.
Justin never set out to be Mr Popular, but reading minds is an awakening nonetheless
Kimber is Justin's friend, and assistant, and possibly the one person who has ever looked at Justin and always seen the best version of him. When he suddenly finds himself able to read minds, and discovers how others view him, Justin gets a reality check.
I was gifted with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and switched to the Kindle Unlimited version partway through. This quick, light read is part of why I like Kindle Unlimited. In many ways this is Justin's story, but Kimber's belief in him, even as she faces her own self-image issues, are strengths of the story as is Justin's evolving through the story, and learning how to be a good friend to Kimber.
Yay giveaways okay I'm gonna add a little caveat to start. The giveaway said this was an ARC even tho Goodreads says it's been published so some of my issues might be resolved in the finished product. my main issue is that I'd see sentences or paragraphs that were too much show, not enough tell. they read like a placeholder for actual story. I also felt like the pacing was not the greatest. I understand the time limitations inherent in the plot device, but it still felt like shit was just shoehorned in. that said, the basic plot and idea were a nifty combination and THAT is something I liked.
Great shifter romance. Very unique twist to bear shifter theme. It was a shame though that his brain waves had to kick up a notch for him to realize what a conceited man he was, lol.. I felt sorry for the years of unrequited love she went through but that was the decision she made regardless of how unhealthy it was for her love life, she deserved a better man but wanted this one and he suddenly makes a change when he "hears" things in a different light.
He changes a lot in this story. His eyes are opened when for a short time he can hear thoughts of people around him. This is because he is a bear shifter. He dumps his girlfriend, who has a surprise for him in store. And steps over to his assistant and long friend because they have feelings for each other.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This was a cute story, the premise of a solar storm causing the main character to have incite into what other people are thinking of him is fun. That the main character is a bear shifter adds demonision.
Not sure what to say about this one. Really didn’t care for Justin that much even though he came good in the end. Did enjoy the story sort off. Interesting to know the truth off what people really think about you.
Justin is a shifter and and selfish. Limber is his personal assistant and has had a crush on him since high school. There are antics in this you won't expect. I loved it.
I couldn't find anything redeeming in this book. The hero was an ass, the heroine was a doormat, and the story was a disaster. I wouldn't recommend this book.
