History book meets historical fiction

This book is aimed at children, but I think it's also perfect for adult learners of Spanish who want to learn about the history of Spain without boring textbooks.

It is divided into chapters, about four pages each, dedicated to significant events that shaped Spain. Each chapter starts with an introductory paragraph, a bullet list of main dates relevant to the chapter, and a map. At the bottom of the page there is a historic timeline divided into periods (from prehistoric to contemporary) with an indication of a current story's place on it, so that a reader does not get lost as they progress from chapter to chapter. At the end of each chapter there is short summary, written in a child-friendly textbook style.

The stories are written in a form of historical fiction, where the events are often narrated from a point of view of a child participant, like a son of an archaeologist, a servant of a writer, a prince, or a famous person as a child. There are interesting twists, light humor, well thought illustrations, convenient layout, so this book is a page turner even for adults.

The stories can be read one after another, or separately, for example, to accompany some educational activity or a movie set in a particular period.

Great book.
