Alyssa is now faced with an impossible choice. Save her battle partner and her love, Xavier, or save the world.

After defeating the Thoreau and the dragon Gaozu in Turkey's most ancient ruins, Alyssa and Xavier return to Cumberland with nothing left to do but to rescue their parents from the dreaded Infernal Dimension. But not only is Thoreau, the demonic mayor, a lot less defeated that the two of them hoped, there is something terribly, terribly wrong with Xavier. Alyssa's always dismissed him as confusing and moody, especially since he's just pushed her away AGAIN--but when Xavier goes over the edge and sinks into a despair that makes him helpless, it's clear to Alyssa there's more than teen angst at work.

Xavier's kept a little secret from Alyssa this whole time.

He's cursed to turn into a horrible creature soon and only Alyssa, who is descended from the most powerful Abnormals ever to live, can save him from his past. Easy, right? NOPE. Saving Xavier means that Alyssa must go to Thoreau and let him awaken another terrifying part of her, a part from a distant and terrifying relative she has no interest in meeting. And if that happens, she's one step closer to becoming the being who can help Thoreau enslave the world.

Things are bad enough now that Alyssa is a vampire with a fire magic. This will make Alyssa even less normal.

It will make her face the fact that she may be the most horrible monster ever to live.

And it may force her to give up the chance to have anything close to a Normal life ever again.

It's an impossible choice.

Death Magic is the third book of the Abnormals Underground series, a young adult urban fantasy with vampires, shifters, mages, demons and other creatures of the night. It is the third book of what will likely be a five-book series.

Death Magic is the third book in the Abnormals Underground series by Holly Hook.
Alyssa have a big decision to do. Either save Xavier, the guy she like. Or save the world. Easy right? Also, Cazio the guy who's plan was to wipe out the underground might be less dead then they thought. And something is also wrong with Xavier, his curse. The only way that Alyssa might be saving him, will be becoming something she doesn't want to and a part of Cazio plan of world domination.
I have really loved this book and can't wait to read her next one. I have received an arc of this book from the author.

Once again, we battle with Alyssa the vampire as she tries to defeat the demons who are bent on destroying other supernaturals and claiming ultimate power. After journeying to the Dark Council and resurrecting Xavier's grandfather, Alyssa and Xavier return home to find even more chaos than they left. Somehow, their spell backfired and also returned their greatest enemy, Thoreau. And if that's not bad enough, the dark energies have accelerated Xavier's descent into a dark fate - following his previous battle partner and becoming a shadow wraith. The only way to save him is for Alyssa to awaken her death magic, bringing her one step closer to becoming the "dark pentagram." It seems the more she tries to resist her fate, the more forces conspire to limit her choices.

The characters in this story continue to develop, and as a reader you are drawn into Alyssa's intense desire to save her partner. As she finds herself falling in love with Xavier, so too do we. This intriguing world is not your typical vampire/supernatural existence - here it's a burden, and many abnormals wish only to live a quite life pretending to be regular humans. Despite their powers, or perhaps because of them, they are hunted and persecuted. As with the other Abnormals books, the plot moves quickly and is filled with action and chase scenes. It seems Alyssa never gets a chance to catch her breath before she is once again thrown back into the fray.

I volunteered to review an ARC of this novel.

This is a wonderful book. It's been a blast following Alyssa as she moves more and more away from her desired "Normal" life and becomes so very much more. That continues in this book, with master manipulator Thoreau continuing to do whatever is needed to turn Alyssa so that ultimately he'll get what's needed to enslave the world. In the meantime Alyssa has to deal with Xavier and then shadow sickness that is tearing him up along with everything else that the incredible world Holly Hook created, with is vampires, shifters, mages, demons and other creatures, can throw at her and her friends. Luckily now that she's a vampire and capable of fire magic, she's already a darn powerful kick-a** heroine by the time of this book. She also has some awesome friends to support her, so little things Shadow Wraiths? Pshaw, just another nuisance to deal with. And dealing with all of this is something Alyssa and company does perfectly.

Bottom line: Simply a great addition ti the series. Great plot. Great characters. Great world-building. Great writing.

Highly recommended.

I really do love this series. Holly has a way of weaving emotions and senses like smell or touch (feelings) through her stories. Those details make it so well written that you can envision everything that a character goes through. Without losing the freedom to imagining things just like you expect they'd be, she gives the necessarily details to help you build the world she describes without any effort.
And just like with Blood Magic and Fire Magic, Death Magic is a fast paced read. You just need to know how Alyssa and Xavier will deal with everything and what they'll come up with the oncoming events that are dooming the fate of the world once more.
This installment is rather darker than the previous books, which is only fitting as we're coming closer to the end of the series.

Death Magic by Holly Hook is book 3 in the Abnormals Underground series.

Death magic picks up right where Book 2, Fire magic ends and Alyssa and Zavier have the task of resurrecting Leon, and by default Alluna, before they can leave the ruins they are trapped in.

This series keeps upping the ante with the drama, thrills, tension and danger that Alyssa and Zavier find themselves in. There are twists and turns that Holly Hook is known off and makes for an interesting and unique YA urban series.

I look forward to reading the next instalment to see how it all continues.

Death Magic picks up right after Fire Magic ends. Alyssa's struggle with herself intensifies as she tries to hold onto her hope for a normal existence while inching closer to the monster she fears she's becoming. How can she possibly ever return to her normal life if she keeps awakening parts of herself that are far from normal? This story only gets better as the pieces click into place and more questions are answered. What's next? I can't wait for the next installment!

It took me so long to get the reviews up for both this book and the last one due to stress, anxiety, and depression, so I apologize for not getting this up sooner. I had a hard time getting through this one because of those things so my reading experience was difficult. That's why it's a 3-star instead of my usual 4 or 5-star reviews for Holly's books. I probably would've liked this one more had I not been dealing with my mental illnesses.

Demon and War Mage combined?

A vampire and War Mage bound as battle partners, illegally bound, but bound just the same. When one dies, the other does as well, well normally. One partner becoming a Shadow Wraith wasn't an immediate death for the other, but a long, painful slide into a wraith. Full of action, plot twists, and a dose of anticipation! Starting book 4 asap!

Alyssa and Xavier stopped Cazio from getting Leon’s War magic and fulfilled their bargain with Allunna with terrible results. Xavier’s mood swings are getting worse and Alyssa will do everything to find out what is happening and how to save him.
This book gets better and better with every page! I loved it 😍

I really enjoyed reading this book. This story mainly focuses on paranormals getting together to find a way to save Xavier after his previous battle partner's demise tries to bring him to an end. I'd recommend this book for fans of danger and paranormal creatures.

I voluntarily reviewed an an advanced reader copy of this book. This is the third book in this series and readers need to read the previous two books to fully understand and appreciate this story. Saying that this book is action packed is an understatement,  it keeps you on your toes with the thrilling drama that you as the reader experience while reading this.

I loved the storyline to this book, I can't wait to get my hands on the next book to find out what will happen next on the life's of Alyssa and Xander. The storyline is filled with emotional content from pain to love and you learn so much more about the characters and who they really are inside, inner barriers start to come down and let others in. The plot in this tale is so addictive,  like every other Holly Hook book I have read. She has a way of writing that addicts you and makes it so you can't stop reading the pages!  I love her books and I can't recommend her books highly enough especially this series!!!
