2.5 stars.

Read the first book in this series, hoped fourth one was more engaging. Two different man was being called "ghost" in the first book, it was confusing, still is. Characters has many names, trying to deceive each other and the reader. Aloha Toby Neal, won't be reading your books anymore.

Wired Dark is the fourth book in the Paradise Crime Series by Toby Neal, and is one of the best in the series so far. I love this series because the heroine, Sophie Ang, is a strong, intelligent, flawed, and compelling character to whom I can relate on many levels. A hallmark of Toby Neal's writing is her development of deep, interesting, and realistic characters who feel as though they are real. It's not just protagonist characters who are written this way, Neal also writes antagonists and peripheral characters with depth and perception. It's a tribute to this skill that her Lei Crime Kindle World is filled with novellas written about her peripheral characters.

In addition to strong character development, Neal writes fast-paced, intriguing plots that are well-researched and realistic. This book focuses on several timely issues: domestic abuse, stalking, and the challenges faced on a daily basis by law enforcement in dealing with threats from multiple lines of communication.

Beyond characters and plot, Neal incorporates a strong sense of place and culture in her books. I feel I am in Hawai'i, I can smell the delicious scents of food cooking, the flora and fauna, and the humid tropical air enveloping me because Neal writes with such clarity and delightful descriptiveness.

I read this book in two days, it was that engrossing. This isn't unusual for me with Neal's books, however; I love her Lei Crime Series just as much. If you're new to Toby Neal's writing, I strongly encourage you to read all her books. She is a wonderfully consistent writer and focuses on excellence in all her books.

Leave it to Toby Neal to come up with another fascinating story. She should be crowned The Queen of Suspense. All her characters are so real that when something "bad" happens to them I want to message Toby and ask her "how could you?".
This was truly a dark phase in Sophie's life, occasionally interrupted by moments of light made of love, friendship and trust, but there's so much to hope for in the end and the veil of darkness will vanish by dawn.
I love Lei, Marcella, Jake, Ted/Connor and all her other characters, but Sophie is my favorite by far. She's growing stronger and more beautiful with each story. As Jake said "she's the baddest badass".
I don't know how patient I will be until Wired Dawn is published, but I will be ready because I will re-read Sophie' story from the beginning... and I never read a thriller twice, however the "Wired" series are more than your classical mystery novels.
If you're ready to hold your breath and drop everything for a few good hours, find your most comfy chair and start reading!

Sophie's love life a web of feelings and lies. Who can she trust? Her ex husband is still out to keep her forever, by any means necessary. She's dating a man with more than a few secrets and her partner has feelings that she refuses to acknowledge. She is fabulous at her security job and knows the workings of technology like nobody else. For her skills she is a valuable member of the team set to protect an aging rock star from a stalker. The ongoing case is intriguing to her and some times keeps her mind off the trouble her ex is causing. As a spin off from the Lei Crime Series we've met Sophie Ang before as an FBI agent so we do get to visit her old friends Lei and Marcella. However this series is all about Sophie and should be read in order because her story is unique and the books are interconnecting. I would advise you not to jump into book 4 but start at the beginning. Neal's books will captivate you with mystery and suspense while romancing you with images of beautiful Hawaii. Neal is always a must read author, this time I received an advanced copy for which I am pleased to write my unbiased review.

WIRED DARK by Toby Neal a Paradise Crime novel
Sophie Security specialist with Jake and two others, a small team for this beachfront home. Mutulated plastic dolls of a bride and groom are being found, and notes from Blondie. Assan her ex is after Sophie, to finish, punish her for leaving. She has a mantra, a new relationship, a will to live. Are the two cases related, she says no. Conner wants to go after Assan, she says no, he is her's. Break up, because he is her boss, or can an understanding be reached. A powerful story of emotions, that have not healed when she was with Assan. Can Conner and his ways be what she needs. To solving the case with the dolls. Toby has once again captured her readers, with a thrilling story, and they won't be disappointed. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

INTENSE!!

Sophie Ang returns in WIRED DARK (A Paradise Crime Novel #4) and be ready for serious intensity! Author Toby Neal has steadily crafted Sophie's character throughout the series allowing her to change her profession from FBI Cyber Specialist to working with the private contractors Security Solutions. She still works as a Cyber Specialist but she now gets out in the field and show off her many mixed martial arts skills when needed. She wants to ALWAYS be prepared should her evil ex Assan Ang appear now that she knows he has escaped from Federal lock-up during a transfer and she is hyper vigilant in taking precautions. Security Solutions is working a job on Maui involving a Rock Star and a crazed Stalker. While working on this case, Sophie's personal life gets crazier than can be imagined! If you like total intrigue, multiple story lines and major suspense - then you won't be disappointed!! I was provided an ARC by the author. The opinions expressed here are my own.

“Dark” is now our fourth reading in Neal’s currently 13-book series (this title the fourth) to feature law enforcement officer Sophie Ang. She’s now a security specialist, mostly working the computer-based technical angles of helping to protect a minor celebrity from a stalker, but matters soon devolve into conflicts with an old foe.

As before, Ang and her interactions with her partners of sort, both on-the-job and various boyfriends, are often out of kilter; and in general this protagonist is not really our cup of tea. Many seem to enjoy her adventures, but we solidly prefer Neal’s Hawaiian cop protagonist Lei Texeira, who has a few bit cameos herein. We decided once before to forego these particular tales, and this time we’re sticking with it. {2.5}

Wired Dark is as compelling and intriguing as any n this series that I've read and reviewed. Sophie, Connor, Lei, Jake, and all that Sophie comes in contact with are so lifelike, it's extremely difficult to put down this as was the other three. I received my arc copy yesterday evening, and here it is 1:30 a.m. And I've finished and I'm up writing this.
EVERYONE ought to be as anxious as I was to read this next saga. If for some reason you've been off the planet and haven't imbibed in these or the Lei series yet, come home and do it!!
As I sat here in central Florida, waiting and anticipating this book, and the next, I was not disappointed.
It's, again, intriguing, hard to stop reading, novel, that no one should miss.
Kudos again Toby!

You're continually keeps in suspense, wondering what is going to happen next. Questions were answered & problems solved, yet we are still left with even more unanswered questions. Can't wait until the next one!

Sophie Ang is never more than 2 steps away from heartache, intrigue and death and this time it is no different. Toby Neal is a master at weaving suspense. Just when Sophie thinks her life could have a glimmer of normalcy with the man she loves, trouble finds her again. Connor, Jake, Lei- no one is safe in Sophie's world. How far will she go to protect herself and everyone she loves. You will need to read the story to find out- but, you will not be disappointed.

Wired Dark immediately engages the reader on the first page with the appearance of the malevolent miscreant, Assan Ang…with Sophie, of course, as his target. While Sophie is busy working on Maui with her Security Solutions team, she must also thwart his evil plan. We get to spend time with familiar characters, Lei, Marcella, and others who are entwined in this exciting story as well. Another can’t-put-it-down novel from Toby Neal, whose books would make so many excellent movie scripts!

Thank you Toby Neal for another wonderful, intense, dramatic adventure with Sophie Ang. This is her 4th Paradise Crime Novel,
my favorite to date. I love Sophie , and in this book she is working in Maui with her work partner Jake to protect a rock star. A lot happens with Sophie's relationships: with her love interest Connor, her evil ex
Assan Ang, and her work partner Jake. Sophie goes through a lot of adventure, danger, romance, and self awareness. It keeps you interested from page one, and was so hard to put down. I love all of Toby's books. If you love complex characters, adventure, mystery, and some romance, you will love all of her books. We also get some time with some of Toby's best characters , Lei, and Marcella, from the Lei Crime Series. I would really recommend this suspenseful story/book that takes place in beautiful Hawaii. I was given an ARC of this book, and have written this review on my own accord. I love this series of books, and can't wait for the next chapter in Sophie's life.

Talk about nail biting, edge of my seat thrill ride wow Wired Dark was all that and so much more and seriously thanks Sophie for being the 'Baddest of Badasses' to quote the gorgeous Jake.

I had so many things planned to do with my day lol but hey I got Wired Dark read so it's not like I accomplished nothing and it was seriously worth it.

Sophie is just amazing as our kick ass heroine even fighting depression she still keeps going that is one mighty tough lady.

I am so totally with Sophie right now I am off men after Wired Dark to they just totally suck....lol

after everything that happened in Wired Dark I am more than a bit intrigued to see where Toby Neal will head next with Sophie ohhhh I just can't wait.

Another amazing mystery from Toby Neal. Sophie Ang pushes the envelope with a staggering range of emotions. From tentatively opening herself up to love to finding herself thrown into deep despair and confusion, she continues to find strength and deceptively intriguing ways to manage, with lots of support from her ever faithful, caring friends in the police force. Sophie is a powerful, vulnerable, fascinating woman whose journey in WIRED DARK makes it almost impossible to put down. A novel easily worthy of 5 stars AND quite possibly a second read. Toby has done it, AGAIN!

As usual great book from Toby

I hated for it to end. Sophie seems to have a cursed life. Everything that happens to her is bad. Finally letting herself fall in love, her lover is killed in a bomb blast caused by her sadistic ex husband, as he tries to capture her. With her world upside down, she is trying to start a new life & identity.

I was given the ARC copy of this book: Here goes! WOW! Sophie just keeps getting better and better! Just when you think she can relax, sort out feelings about love, life, happiness, BANG! More danger, more situations that she thinks she can handle on her own, more smart, smart actions (and, according to her partner, Jake, dumb actions), yet, somehow, she lives to love and fight evil another day. My kind of 'badass' girl! Can hardly wait for #5!!!

I read this so fast! Love the book and Sophie Ang's character. Her romance to Connor is still nebulous, her crazed ex-husband is still on the lose and stalking her, and Sophie is still trying to figure out her life. Toby Neal really brought Sophie's character out in this one, both her strength and her vulnerabilities . The crime story is also awesome!

Tough one

As the title said this is dark. Sophie continues to grow and develop. Not sure in what direction after this one. But being an optimist.... As per normal, lots of action. And a well written book. Which is what we have come to expect. If you are new to this author, read the books in order. It is a pleasure watching Sophie acting and reacting. Recommended.

This was the most thrilling, heart-stopping, action-packed Ang novel yet and I was so sad to see it end!

Sophie and Jake are back together on Maui living in a sprawling, beachfront home that is owned by rocker Shank Miller. Shank is being seriously stalked, and Security Solutions has placed Sophie and Jake on 24/7 duty. When Sophie is attacked on the beach during a night run, it appears that her ex, Assan Ang, is back and madder than ever, residing somewhere on Maui and tracking her every move - even while she is living as alter ego Mary Watson.

Of particular interest, Todd and Sophie FINALLY consummated their relationship (thank goodness), but just as things start to heat up, Todd is murdered, his blackened, burned body only partially remaining behind. Sophie is understandably crushed, and she knows that Assan is to blame. She goes through the motions of grieving for Todd while pals Marcella, Lei, and even Jake console her.
(Side bar: I definitely thought this would be the book when Jake and Sophie finally pounce on each other and just go nuts - but alas, I was again disappointed ;) )

Once the stalker of Shank Miller has been apprehended, Sophie sneaks away to finally do away with Assan Ang once and for all - and his death is a DOOZY. On their way to another makeshift BDSM torture chamber, Sophie springs a knife on Assan and slits his throat from ear to ear, watching him bleed out. I did not feel one shed of remorse of his death; Assan is one of the most villainous, evil characters I've come across.

At the end of the book, it's time for Todd's memorial. Who shows up for the eulogy? Sheldon Hamilton - WHO IS TODD. TODD IS NOT DEAD. I was not surprised because Sophie even toys with the idea that maybe he faked his death and is just never coming back, but I knew we hadn't seen the end of him. Sophie is beyond enraged - she went through the motions of grief and even identified the charred remains of not-Todd's body! She tells him she never wants to see him again, assumes ANOTHER new identity, and hits the road.

I can't wait to see what will happen next!
