I’m disappointed. I want to blame my enjoyment on the fact that I am in a romance slump (not a reading slump, just a romance slump), but I’m not too sure. I’m not a supporter of the whole “it’s me, not the book” because in reality, for me, it is the book. To be honest, the reason I started this series in the first place is because when I’m in a romance slump and want to still read romance stories, I turn to fantasy, paranormal and mystery/thriller, as romance isn’t a big focus on them as they are in historical and contemporary romances. It’s big, and it’s still there, but there are other important things happening that intervene. Sadly, I think my enjoyment can be partially blamed on the fact that the romance in this series is so central focused that it didn’t make much of a difference. Kind of like a “right book, wrong time” situation. Maybe? Probably? Oh well.
This was boring, plainly put. It feels like a repeat of the last two books, with almost no new emotion and development. Once again, the relationship between Angel and Simeon is so plain. It’s all the same, with no development, no sexual tension added that helps build up the relationship, no angst whatsoever. The two are so perfect, perfect for each other and perfect individually, that nothing could go wrong with them. I think at this point I need to just accept this to enjoy their relationship. There is a tiny bit of added angst with the side characters, like Daniel and Isaac, but nothing too extreme. Really, the best part about this was Eroch’s POV and seeing him go ballistic protecting Daniel. The found family trope in this is absolutely fantastic. It’s one of the series’ biggest developments. If only the relationship and characters could be the same. Sadly, as much as I loved Angel in the last books, now I feel like he’s just a copy in every book. It’s as if nothing can stop him, nothing can get to him. He’s not exactly immortal, but he’s also not someone complaining and struggling. Simeon isn’t any better, as he’s just so perfectly put, and nothing about Angel can go wrong for him.
I can’t say I’m as excited for the next books anymore. It’s as if all the couples of this series are already together and we’re thrown into the middle of it. It’s hard to have some hope now for this authors next books of this series, and all I can say is that I’m hopeful their other books and series are different.
