A good intro to Etherium/Blockchain for those who know nothing about the technology coming to turn the world upside down. The writing is accessible and intended for beginners, although there is a chapter for coding a "hello world" smart contract with step by step instructions for running it on the blockchain. The author's attitude is that programming Etherium smart contracts so easy anyone should be able to do it. From years of programming websites, I agree that the code is straightforward, but not everyone does code. Changing the oil in your car is also easy, yet most people are happy to pay someone else to do it. The programming should have been saved for an appendix, as it is only going to interest a narrow subset of the target market for this kind of book.
It's a little on the thin side, but that makes it a quick read. There were enough typos that I lost count. There's probably better intros on the subject, but this is a decent crash course to get you started down the rabbit hole.
A great introduction to the Ethereum blockchain for the non technical reader.
Although my background is not specifically in programming, but rather in financial markets, the author makes the fundamentals of the ethereum blockchain very easy to understand. With chapters ranging from the basics of "what is a blockchain" to developing smart contracts on the ethereum network, introduction to ethereum mining and even the touching on subjects of legality and governance, I feel that the author has done a great job in exploring the topic in a concise manner.
If you are new to cryptocurrencies and are looking for a quick crash course to bring you upto speed this book will suffice. However being the new emerging sector, while the fundamentals do not change, some concepts will quickly become outdated as inevitable improvements and advancements happen on the blockchain, which may lead to a revised edition being published in the future.
The author is very knowledgeable and is able to communicate clearly even when presenting technical concepts to the layman.
Author has a superficial knowledge of what he is writing about. For instance, he suggests taking a 90% long, 10% short position on a coin a way of hedging. Common sense would tell you that that would net your position to being just 80% long of your portfolio. Meaning to say, you might as well just take a long position with 80% of your position. Of the aspects that he possibly have a good understanding of, he does a subpar job of explaining it clearly to the reader to the point that it makes me doubt if he has a clear idea of what he's trying to explain.
