I received this book in a Goodreads Giveaway - many thanks to Kindle and Goodreads for the opportunity to read this book.
I'm a big fan of historical fiction. It is actually my favorite genre and while this book was well-written, I felt a bit disconnected to the female protagonists in the story, particularly Ida, who exuded a stubbornness almost beyond reason IMO. The length to which the 3 female protagonists seemed to travel to prevent their own happiness and general well-being felt like it was more for the sake of (unnecessarily) extending the story to me and I really struggled to get through the book.
Still the background history was fascinating and the research into that history shows and was, to me, the best thing about the story. I just wish I could have connected more with the female characters than I did.

shortish review for busy readers:
A typical 19th century settler story, except it's not German immigrants in the American west, it's German immigrants on New Zealand's South Island.
Unfortunately, the story is way too long (and I listened to an abridged version!), too featurelessly blah, with too many black/white characterisations, and too many predictable situations. It even makes literal use of Chekov’s gun. (See this here gun? It's gonna go off by the end of the book!)
By far, the best part was the presentation of the elaborate customs of the native Maori culture of New Zealand and how important their rituals and spell songs were/are. That was very well done and quite informative.
I listened to the 8-CD abridged version read by Katrin Fröhlich, who did a decent job of reading, with the exception of the voice of the villain character, which was like listening to nails on a chalkboard.

It's a story about how two brave young women struggle to survive in the new colony of New Zealand, they come from very different back grounds and become best friends.
Ida Lange is a young girl who lives in a Lutheran community in Prussia ( Germany) and she has been looking after her younger siblings since her mother passed away during childbirth. She's friends with a boy at school, Karl Jensch's family are poor and her father doesn't approve of their friendship. Both teenagers are forced to leave school, Ida is needed at home. Karl's father can't afford for him to stay at school and he needs to start work. Both Ida and Karl are bright, eager and keen students and it's a shame when they're forced to leave school.
A few years later, the opportunity arises for the Lutheran community to emigrate to New Zealand, Ida's father is very keen, he wants Ida to marry Ottfried Brandmann, he's the local bully, they become engaged and they're families plan the journey across the ocean to their new home.
Karl is a hard worker and he manages to find a way of being able to be on the same ship as Ida, her family isn't happy about that and he moves to New Zealand.
Kitten is a young girl who's struggling survive living in a remote area in New Zealand near a whaling station, she runs away from the local tavern where she has been living, she's concerned that she will be made to work as a prostitute, and finds a new home with a local Maori tribe. Later she is forced to leave when the tribe decides she has betrayed them. Eventually, Cat and Ida meet and become best friends.
I enjoyed reading about New Zealand, Maori culture, language, beliefs, herbal medicine, food, and how they lived.
The author has done a lot of research into how Maori people lived at the time and also about Lutheran settlers leaving Prussia to live in New Zealand.
The book is a long one, the main part of the story is really a saga, it's about how Ida and Cat struggle to live in a male dominated world where women are not treated as equals and both women suffer terrible abuse in the story.
I really didn't like that most of the book and story is based around domestic violence, drinking and rape.
I have read other books by Sarah Lark that I have really enjoyed, this one was only ok and I gave it 3 stars. I have shared my review on Goodreads, NetGalley, Twitter, Australian Amazon and my blog.

קראתי עד אמצע הספר ברצף ו3 פרקים מהסוף ברצף. הספר לא גרוע, אבל הוא לא מעניין, הוא לא קיצבי ואין בו אלמנטים שגורמים לקורא לשקוע בסאגה טובה. הכי חשוב לא אכפת לי מהדמויות וממה שיקרה להן, עד כמה שיכול לקרות להן בשממה הניו זילנדית.
אידה, היגרה עם אביה ושתי אחיותיה מעיירה מקלן ברג שבפרוסיה. החלומם של אביה להקים את ההתיישבות הגרמנית של מקלן בניו זילנד. לאחר שקהילת המהגרים רוכשת שטח עקר על גדות הנהר, הוא משיא את אידה לייצור מבני הקהילה, אלכוהליסט אלים שממרר את חייה.
קאט, אומצה בצעירותה ע"י שבט מאורים. לאחר שחייתה בינהם שנים רבות, אירוע של מפגש עם מהגרים שמנסים להשתלט על אדמותיהם מסתיים בהרג האם המאמצת שלה ובגזר דין מוות ללבנים. בין הלבנים נמצא כריסטופר, אנגלי שגדל ללמוד את השפה מתווך ומתרגם למהגרים הלבנים. קאט חסה על חייו ומשחררת אותו לפני שיוצא להורג. כשזה מתגלה היא מוקעת מהשבט. היא מצטרפת לכריס בחזרתו לעיר, שם היא מגלה שהוא עומד להינשא לבת של בעלי חברת הספנות הניו זילנדית כך יקבל בתמורה אדמה להתיישבות.
קאט נותרת לעבוד כמשרתת במשפחת אישתו של כריס, אבל תמורות הזמן מאלצות אותה שוב לנוע ולחפש את גורלה.
רק במחצית הספר אידה וקאט נפגשות. עד אז אומנם הן סובלות עוולות חברתיות אישיות קשות, אבל הן לא שונות בנוף הנשי של אותו הזמן ואינן שונות מיתר בני הקהילה, גברים ונשים שסבלו מפגעי ההתיישבות בארץ שוממה שמאוכלסת בבני המקום, נייטיבס אותם האדם הלבן ניסה לנשל מאדמתם ותרבותם. מבחינה זו כל ספר על התיישבות באפריקה, אוסטרליה או אנטרטיקה יספק את אותה החוויה.
הספר יכל להיות מעניין לו הסופרת היתה מתמקדת באידה או בקאט ולא בוחרת להתמקד בשתיהן בו זמנית ולשטוח את הסיפור על 600 עמודים.
אידה היא טיפוס שמרני ושום דבר יוצא דופן לא קורה לה למעט המפגש עם בן קהילתה, קרל ינטש, שמציע לה מפלט מהחיים הצפויים לה והיא מסרבת ומתעקשת להמשיך בתוכנית של אביה לחיי עוני מרוד, עבודת כפיים קשה, אלימות מינית ופיזית של בעלה וחוסר סיפוק.
קאט, טיפוס ליברלי יותר ופוטנציאל הסיפור שלה ושל כריס הרבה יותר גדול, אבל גם במקרה הזה הסופרת מורחת את העלילה והופכת אותה ללעוסה וחסרת עיניין.
החלק המעניין ביותר בספר הוא המפגש של האדם הלבן עם המאורים, אבל במקום להתעמק במפגשים הרב תרבותיים הללו, הסופרת מבזבזת פרקים שלמים על תיאורי האדמה, שיממונה ועיבוד שלה הן בקהילה של אידה והן בחווה של כריס.
כריס שנישא ליאנה, בתו של בעלי החברה הניו זילנדית, מסרב להודות בכישלון נשואיו גם כשהוא מושפל עד עפר. הוא דומה לאידה בהתנהגות שלו ובאופן שבו הוא משלים עם גורלו בתמורה לפיסת קרקע. זה מדהים אותי כי ההשלמה הזו של אידה ושל כריס הם החלקים היחידים שמתרחש בהם משהו לא צפוי בסיפור הזה.
לסיכום, אין ספק שהיתה יכולה להירקם כאן סאגה מפוארת לו הסופרת היתה משכילה לנתב את העלילה בצורה משכנעת ומעניינת. אבל לצערי זה לא קרה.

Que bonito es encontrar libros que relaten una historia de un país y de una época de la cual no se conoce mucho.
Este libro viene a refrescar el género de novela histórica. No nos relata hechos relacionados con la segunda guerra mundial, no está relacionada con acontecimientos sucedidos en España. Viene a contarnos la historia de la colonización de Australia y Nueva Zelanda, el sufrimiento de los maoríes, las penurias que atravesaron los colonos al llegar a estas tierras, y como fue el proceso de las mezclas entre las 2 culturas.
Esta escritora introduce en esta historia personajes de todo tipo muy bien presentados y construidos, inclusive los personajes que estaban en un segundo plano vienen a aportarle muchísimo a toda la historia. Cada uno de las situaciones acontecidas va muy de la mano con los deseos y anhelos de todos los personajes. Me gustó muchísimo como fue presentándonos el proceso de mestizaje y todo lo que hicieron ambas culturas para poder comprender a sus nuevos vecinos.
Toda la trama está presentada de una manera armoniosa, a pesar de que hay huecos de tiempo en ciertas partes de la historia, estos se llenan en dos líneas presentadas por la autora logrando así hacer grandes saltos de tiempo y que no se sienta que la historia está un poco perdida, inclusive esos espacios realmente no se sienten como huecos, sino espacios de transición entre un momento importante y otro. El ritmo de la novela es constante, no tiene altibajos ni momentos sin sentido, sino que toda la historia transcurre con mucha intensidad, si teniendo ciertas partes como para tomar aire y aumentar la emoción.
Me gusta mucho que el romance en esta historia es algo FUNDAMENTAL, pero no se presenta de manera empalagosa ni nada por el estilo, sino que sabemos que el sentimiento está ahí y que mucho de lo que ocurre gira entorno al amor y que realmente están justificadas cada una de las situaciones vividas.
Me parece que la novela está muy bien documentada y esto logra que cada situación ocurrida uno se la crea por completo.
Esta novela es de lectura obligatoria para todas aquellas personajes que gustan de novelas de este género.

This book is based on documented historical background. It gives a true insight into the lives, psyche and attitudes of the immigrants.
This book had reminded me of one of those old classics that you can only read slowly. In todays world, where we practically read a new book every other day, this book took me back to those precious times where every written word, every expression is treasured. I must say, that at first I couldn't get into it, I nearly put it down. But, for some reason, I persevered. There was something there. I had to get used to slowing myself down, to learn to appreciate again the beauty of each written word, to enjoy the magic of the slowly developing story.
Strong emotions captured me while reading - and mostly none of the good kind. The characters' psyche and attitudes are so well portrayed that I have found myself nodding in acknowledgement. Because I have met immigrants with similar attitudes, who are too busy looking back and keeping their traditions to notice and learn something new.
The strong faith-based beliefs of the period raised my blood pressure to the point I wanted to scream. Tragedy and evil is also present in the story, which was hard to read as always, but so is karma: where eventually everyone gets what they deserve.
All in all, I can 't recommend the book highly enough. Especially if you are in need of a slow, beautifully written book, which will not only transport you to a long forgotten time, but also teach you facts about New Zealand's history.

Reading historical fiction from your own country which has been written by someone who doesn't live there... Hmm i was disappointed with the inaccuracies in the narrative.

Ik ondernam een reis naar het Nieuw-Zeeland samen met auteur Sarah Lark. Die naam was mij al verschillende keren gepasseerd en de verhalen spraken me wel aan. Dus nam ik de duik naar Nieuw-Zeeland in het jaar 1837. Op Hebban valt op dat het wel een populair boek is. Velen die het willen lezen, of het al gelezen hebben. Laat ons dan maar eens kijken hoe ik de reis beleefd heb.
De auteur
De auteur is er blijkbaar eentje van vele namen. Christiane Gohl, Elisabeth Rotenberg, Sarah Lark en Ricarda Jordan. Oke, een naam per genre dat ze schrijft misschien maar dat is voor mij toch niet nodig hoor.

In het boek volgen we vooral Ida en Cat. Ida , Duitse, komt met een groep jonge mensen naar Nieuw-Zeeland waar hen grond en vrijheid beloofd werd. Als het aan Ida lag mocht haar verloofde Ottfried wel achterblijven. Ze heeft hem namelijk niet zelf gekozen maar haar ouders namen die taak op zich.
Ida groeit op in Nieuw-Zeeland in een bordeel. Als kind van een dame van lichte zeden weet ze dat ze vroeg of laat dezelfde job als haar moeder zal moeten uitvoeren, maar dat ziet ze niet zitten.
Ida en Cat leren al snel dat niet alles naar waarheid is, en zoeken allebei hoe ze verder leven met alle ups and downs.
Beide vrouwen worden vriendinnen en kunnen elkaar steun wel gebruiken.
Mijn gedacht
Wat initieel mijn aandacht trok in dit boek was de cover. Laat ons eerlijk zijn, daar willen we zelf toch wel even wandelen?
In het begin van het verhaal miste ik wat duiding van de omgeving maar naarmate ik verder las werd het alsmaar beter. De omgeving kwam tot leven en de personages leefden niet meer op een 2d wereld.
Die personages waren goed uitgewerkt waar vooral Cat en Ida wegliepen met de hoofdrollen. Sommige personages verlieten zelfs even het verhaal om dan gegroeid terug te komen en weg te lopen met het verhaal.
Een verhaal dat vlot te lezen is. Het voelt nergens langdradig aan en er zit altijd wel een gebeurtenis in die de aandacht vasthoud. Die langdradigheid waar ik het over heb ben ik al veel tegengekomen in dit soort dikke kleppers, het verhaal wordt uitgesponnen om pagina’s te vullen maar bij Lark is dit gelukkig niet zo.
Het verhaal zit vooral goed in elkaar. Waar in het begin het verhaal van beide dames zich gesplitst afspeelt komt dit vlug samen en vanaf dan is het verhaal een echte rollercoaster qua belevenissen.
Het einde van het verhaal bevat eigenlijk niet zoveel verrassingen meer maar dit is niet nefast voor het verhaal. Een verhaal dat duidelijk nog niet op zijn einde is en nog vele kanten uitkan in de vervolgboeken.
De historie die Lark verwerkte in dit verhaal bevat veel waarheid. Dit maakt ze graag duidelijk in een nawoord. Ze maakt hierin vooral duidelijk wat fictie , non-fictie of gebaseerd is op waargebeurde feiten. Deze info draagt echt wel bij aan het historische onderwerp van de eerste pioniers naar Nieuw-Zeeland. De pioniers en de Maori.
19 dagen heb ik gelezen aan dit boek maar ik ben zelfs niet blij dat hij uit is. Ik wil weten hoe het verder gaat. Dit was terug een gedenkwaardige reis ,eentje die waarschijnlijk wel nog een vervolg zal kennen. Het land staat ook al tijdje op de real-life verlanglijst van bestemmingen om te verkennen.
Iedereen nog veel leesgenot en als je fan bent van deze auteur, laat maar horen.

Farbenprächtig und eindrucksvoll
Worum geht’s?
1837: Ein ganzes Dorf wandert aus. Von Mecklenburg nach Neuseeland. Doch kann man am anderen Ende der Welt ein Leben aufbauen, wie in Deutschland? Oder ist es nur ein schöner Traum, der nie Wirklichkeit werden wird?
Meine Meinung:
Mit „Die Zeit der Feuerblüten“ beginnt Sarah Lark ihre Feuerblüten-Saga in ihrem gewohnt mitreißenden und bildhaften Schreibstil. Auch hier vermischt die Autorin wieder gekonnt historische mit fiktiven Details und nimmt uns mit auf eine unglaubliche Reise.
Ida, die fast schon ein bisschen wie eine Amisch aufwächst, ist mir direkt ans Herz gewachsen. Cat, die im Laufe des Buches ihre beste Freundin wird, sogar fast noch mehr. Beide dürfen wir in dem Buch auf eine unglaubliche Reise begleiten, nicht nur auf ihrer tatsächlichen Reise, sondern auch auf einer Reise zu ihrem eigenen Selbst. Schon die Schifffahrt, die Ida und die Bewohner von Raben Steinfeld nach Neuseeland bringt, ist abenteuerlich. Dann der erfolglose Aufbau von Sankt Paulidorf, dem wahre historische Begebenheiten zugrunde liegen. Und natürlich auch wieder das Leben der Maori, das mich immer besonders begeistert und das auch mit dem Leben von Cat eng verbunden ist und die Verhandlungen mit den Maori. Spannend, fulminant und absolut eindrucksvoll.
Und auch wenn das Schema immer wieder dasselbe ist, bei dem eine Frau unglücklich verheiratet wird und am Ende doch bei ihrer großen Liebe landet, ist es immer wieder auf Neue schön, die Heldin der Geschichte begleiten zu dürfen. Allein die Bilder der Landschaften und das Wachsen der Zivilisation in Neuseeland, welche die Autorin so unglaublich farbenprächtig und eindrucksvoll schildert, begeistern und faszinieren mich immer wieder! Mir wachsen in jeder ihrer Sagas die Hauptprotagonisten – hier Ida und Cat, aber auch Chris und Karl – ans Herz und obwohl es vorhersehbar ist, fiebere ich doch immer mit und begleite begeistert alle beim Aufbau und beim Erkunden des Landes und ihres neuen Lebens. Hier haben wir es zudem mit einer besonders gläubigen Gemeinde zu tun, die alles als Gottgegeben hinnimmt und vor diesem Hintergrund hat mir die Rede, die Ida ihrem Mann dann im Pub hält, besonders gut gefallen: An der entsprechenden Stelle werdet ihr sehen, was ich meine!
Auch dieses Buch habe ich wieder verschlungen und freue mich schon auf den zweiten Teil, in dem ich allen liebgewonnenen Charakteren wieder begegnen und sie ein Stück ihres Weges begleiten darf!
Fazit:
Sarah Lark fasziniert mich immer wieder aufs Neue. Und auch wenn das Schema ihrer Bücher ähnlich ist, habe ich „Die Zeit der Feuerblüten“ verschlungen und konnte nicht genug bekommen von den Bildern und Eidrücken der Schiffsreise, dem Ankommen in Neuseeland, dem Versuch, eine Siedlung aufzubauen, dem Leben der Maori und der Entwicklung von Ida, Cat, Karl und Chris.
Ich freue mich schon sehr auf den zweiten Teil der Saga und kann hier guten Herzens 5 Sterne vergeben!

Mooie schrijfstijl, hoewel af en toe wat kinderlijk. Ik twijfelde de eerste paar hoofdstukken of de doelgroep rond de 10 jaar lag. Af en toe daarnaast een tikkeltje ongeloofwaardig wat betreft het verhaal tot een goed einde brengen.
De verhaallijnen zijn op prachtige wijze met elkaar verbonden en zeker als je bedenkt dat het grootste deel historisch accuraat is (min de invulling van personages).
Getailleerde en mooie beschrijvingen van stamcultuur en de flora en fauna.

What a fantastic book! I actually came upon Fire Blossom in a very roundabout way. I have been a lover of Sarah Lark for a few years now and I've read two of her series, so I looked her up at my library and they only had one audiobook for her. And it was in German. Hmm. So I try to figure out what the title of this German book might be, and what do I find? This book has only recently been translated into English and it's available through Netgalley right now even though it hasn't officially come out yet. A quick rearrange of all the books I was planning to read next to make way for this and I'm glad I did.
This book is similar in many ways to In the Land of the Long White Cloud. It is about early white settlers to New Zealand and all the drama that goes along with trying to make it in a (mostly) virgin land. It is, above all, a romance novel, though the lyrical writing/translating and the obvious research make this book virtually unputdownable. Every time I tried to do something with my life that wasn't read, I caught myself thinking of Cat, Ida, and Jane, and wondering how they were going to get out of their predicaments. I hope the sequel has already been translated so I don't have to wait too long to revisit all my favorite characters!

Ich bewundere die Autorin Sarah Lark. Auch mein zweites Buch von ihr hat mich so mitgerissen. Die Beschreibungen sind sehr klar dargestellt, die Charaktere interessant und entwickeln sich auf plausiblen Weg weiter (positiv wie negativ). Ich habe mit Cat, Ida, Chris und Karl und auch mit Jane sehr mitgefiebert.
Die Bücher laden zum Träumen ein. Vieles ist schlimm gewesen, nicht alle Entscheidungen rational und der Weg ist schwer, aber er führt wohin. Im Übrigen finde ich es faszinierend, wie viel die Autorin für ihre Bücher recherchiert und wie gut das Recherchierte mit ihrer Fiktion zusammen passt.
Und meine Befürchtung, dass das Buch bis auf eine leichte Abwandlung der Geschichte und Charaktere, genau wie ihr anderes Buch ist, dass ich gelesen habe, hat sich überhaupt nicht bestätigt. Klar gibt es Parallelen, aber die Geschichten sind dennoch sehr einzigartig, das ist bei anderen Autorinnen und Autoren bei weitem nicht so.
Fazit: super schöner historischer Roman zum sich verlieren und sich verlieben.

This book has everything I love - action, adventure, murder, romance (PG PG-13), a little mystery and a happy ending. I really enjoyed this book. Pulled me in right away and kept me hooked the entire time. Sometimes an author bombards me with too many characters too fast, it can be hard to keep them straight. But in "The Fire Blossom" I was slowly introduced to them. It was such great storytelling, I really enjoyed the scenes I was experiencing. I found myself yelling at some characters and crying with others. This book includes domestic violence and rape - none of which are too detailed, but readers sensitive to these subjects should be aware. This book is well - researched and includes real events that occurred during early sheepherding in 1800s New Zealand. It includes many historical facts about the conflicts and obstacles between the Maori people and European settlers. I'm going to go find some cheese recipes and read about sheep now.

This is the first book that I've read by Sarah Lark and I enjoyed her story depicting the history of German and British colonists in New Zealand. Her work of historical fiction has several pieces that are based on historical fact which I enjoyed learning about including the Germans disinterest in assimilating with the English colonists or the Maori natives. I also found it interesting to read about the culture of the Maori and their relationships/interactions with the colonists. The stories of Cat and Ida had harsh realities for women of this period and the violence and violations they experienced at the hands of the town men especially Ida's husband. It was interesting to parallel the lives of the colonist women to the Maori women and how Cat/Poti/Fire Blossom learned so much from her experiences with her biological mother, a prostitute, her friend Mrs. H, and her adoptive Maori mother. Overall, I believe the author did a splendid job at creating rich relationships between the women characters. My one criticism is the ending of the novel, it wrapped up quite quickly and I would have appreciated more development of Ida's husband, Ottfried, throughout the novel.

Doorheen het boek vormen allerhande gebeurtenissen en tegenslagen beide dames tot ze elkaar ontmoeten en vriendinnen worden.
Je leest heel wat over de geschiedenis van immigranten in Nieuw-Zeeland en hoe de Maori stammen reageerden op die immigranten die hun land opeisen. Het verhaal is boeiend en leest vlot.

M'agrada la Sarah Lark. Les seves històries romàntiques ambientades sempre a Nova Zelanda, són l'excusa per parlar-nos d'una terra que es va veure sotmesa a una colonització brutal per part de l'home blanc. Ens parla, en elles, dels maoris, els nadius de Nova Zelanda, de la seva cultura, els seus costums i com, tot i l'arribada dels blancs imposant les seves lleis, son un poble pacífic.

Bis in die Hälfte war die Geschichte recht streng zu lesen. Nicht weil es schlecht geschrieben wäre, sondern weil die Antagonisten so anstrengend und die Protagonisten in so hoffnungslosen Situationen sind. Ich hätte viel mehr Kitsch erwartet und bin echt positiv überrascht. Schön auch, dass nicht das Thema Liebe zentral im Vordergrund steht, sondern Freundschaft.

This book was so interesting and moved very quickly! The details about immigration to New Zealand...the land...the native people...the agriculture and sheep farming...just great! The author, Sara Lark, saw the forest thru the trees. This is by far my favorite book of hers. She makes me want to cross the ocean and see New Zealand fir myself!

3*** Bij toeval kwam ik dit boek tegen en werd benieuwd omdat het over Nieuw-Zeeland gaat. Interessant om meer te leren over Nieuw-Zeeland in de 19e eeuw met de verhouding tussen de kolonisten en inheemse Maori was. Het boek bevatte wel lange beschrijvingen en had geen spannende verhaallijn, waardoor het sommige stukken soms wat saai was. Desalniettemin wel een mooi boek.

3,5 ⭐ Suomeksi luettu. Larkin uuden Uuteen-Seelaantiin sijoittuvan sarjan lähes tuhatsivuinen avausosa, joka oli pitkälti edellisen Uusi-Seelanti sarjan toistoa uusilla hahmoilla. Sinällään seudun historia, maorikulttuuri ja draama kiinnostavat edelleen, mutta jotain uutta kulmaa olisin kaivannut. Tiivistämistäkin, etenkin alkuosassa, olisi ollut.

Mooi verhaal. Er waren delen die ik erg boeiend vond waardoor ik lang bleef lezen. Maar ik vond het boek ook vaak traag en langdradig waardoor ik niet lang achter elkaar las. Ook vond ik het storend dat er relatief veel taalfouten stonden in deze vertaling (2e druk).

Mecklenburg, 1837: Wir lernen Ida und Karl als Kinder kennen. Dann gibt es schon den ersten Abstecher nach Neuseeland und wir lernen einen weiteren Charakter kennen. Dann beginnt die Reise von Ida und Karl und wir begleiten sie von Anfang an. Beide auf verschiedenen Wegen und doch habe beide das gleiche Ziel - Neuseeland. Spannend, düster, grausam und traurig, in dieser Geschichte bekommt einfach eine Vielzahl von Gefühlen. Die einen immer wieder aufwühlen, schocken und aufregen. Man merkt die Seiten des Buches fast gar nicht. Die Geschichte fesselt einen, einfach an sich und lässt erst einen los als es zu Ende ist. Neben Ida und Karl's Geschichten kommt noch ein weiterer Charakter dazu, der viel der Geschichte erzählt und der ein oder andere erzählt aber auch ab und zu mal, was hier gerade passiert ist. So bekommt das ganze noch viel mehr Dimension.
