Entertaining early (1863!) short mystery featuring one of the first female detectives in literature. Quite fun.

Very interesting bit of mystery development. Considered one of the first stories with an actual female detective ( not just a woman adjacent to the crime who helps solve it) There were some features of the story. that were fun, I particularly enjoyed the manipulation of the local gossip as an unwitting tool of the detective.
The resolution of the story involves an open nod to Poe. I found the resolution a bit anti-climactic, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.

One just has to stop and appreciate this novel! The Unknown Weapon should be considered as one of the first modern detective novels with a female detective figure!
