I started this series because of a promotion on one of the book sites to which I subscribe. Even for free and as a book for teens this just isn't very good. In many cases the characters behave foolishly or in an unbelievable fashion. Pike, a high school senior is not an academic standout but the author has drawn his character as being reasonably bright and educated. However, in dealing with his new powers and particularly with his time traveling ability, Pike acts as if he has never read a sci-fi story or seen a sci-fi movie or tv program. His adult friend, confidant and sometime advisor runs a UFO web site but can't seem to be able to give a simple warning about the the law of unintended consequences as it relates to trying to change the past via time travel. In fact, the more I've thought of Pike's ridiculous attempts to go back and "fix" things, the sillier the book seems. Poor Pike. He and logic seem to be strangers.
Another reviewer has already commented on the lack of editing and the poor grammar. Particularly the inability to use the various forms of lay and lie correctly. Really? He lied down? And here is a sneak preview: he lied down again in book two. Don't know about book three as I am not going to read it even with Kindle Unlimited.
In addition to the editing, grammar and plotting problems, the story goes virtually nowhere in answering basic questions. I feel as though I am trapped in never ending reruns of the old LOST TV series. Each episode moving only in tiny increments to answer questions. Even by the end of book two readers still don't know much of the how and none of the who or why Pike and others have these special abilities. The speculation is that aliens did it. Why? Who knows. Maybe because they were bored. I certainly am.
