7 year old chose this from the library so I read it aloud. It was a fine story, apparently one in a series. Some fun survival tips in the story, and some lessons on patience. Not something I would seek out on my own, but seems like a decent series for 7-10 year olds.
Another good survival story! Although I don’t think we’ll have too many opportunities to use them, we learned some good tips for surviving in the jungle. There were great lessons about patience and thinking things through that can be used in any situation.
I'm glad the main character, Omar, got an adventure of his own because he was rather mean and competitive in the first 2 books of the series. A great story of learning patience with oneself.
“The Jungle Challenge,” by Bear Grylls. Summer camp has been a frustrating time for Omar. All he wants to do is win, but his teammates keep slowing him down. He is constantly yelling at people for being slowpokes. When a girl gives him a strange compass he is transported to the middle of the jungle. Now Omar and survival guide Bear Grylls must make their way through the dangerous jungle. Will Omar have enough patience to get out of the jungle alive or will his need to be first get the best of him.
(Book 100 of 100) This is the last book I read for my 2020 reading challenge. Even though it took me an extra four months to take pictures and post all my reviews, I’m still glad I did it. This has been a real learning opportunity for me. I have also found an amazing community of people who like books just as much as I do! I plan to keep posting bookish content, but I’m hoping to change the way I do a few things. Overall, I really enjoyed my last read of 2020. It was fun learning about the jungle and how to survive. I give this book a 4/5-star rating and would recommend it to kids who like adventure books.
This book is so adorable. The main character, Omar, is at summer camp and signs up for a relay race. He ends up feeling angry at the other kids on his team for not performing perfectly. Omar receives a strange gift from one of the girls on his team, a compass. Omar ends up running off and gets lost in the jungle. He meets Bear and they have a great adventure where Omar learns patience and peace. He eventually wakes up and realizes he fell asleep under the shooting gallery. He wakes feeling much better and realizes that he wasn’t very nice. He ends up passing the compass on to someone else that needs a valuable lesson from Bear like he received. I loved the lessons it provided and the little bits of non-fiction trivia throughout the adventure. Highly recommend.

This was a clever book for the middle elementary set (or a read aloud for reluctant readers) that should really grab the attention of young adventurers! It was written by Bear Grylls, who among many other things, became the youngest to ever climb Mt. Everest, and his knowledge of survival skills definitely shines through, as well as of the struggles of being a kid. There's even a lesson interwoven that really comes through by the end! I only gave it four stars because of my personal genre preferences, but for the right set, I believe it would be five stars. Mild disclaimer: The description of what they eat in the jungle is fairly graphic, although it doesn't last long. Still, if you're squeamish, be prepared.😉
I LOVE reading facts about jungles, and I like these books, so you might guess that this is my favorite book in the series, but my favorite book in this series is probably the safari challenge, the reason why this book isn't my favorite, is because it doesn't talk enough about the insects that live in the jungle. I would recommend this book to someone 7-8-11. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. There is no content.
After watching You vs Wild on Netflix, my girls were excited to read a chapter book featuring Bear Grylls! This particular book focuses on patience as the main character leaves camp via a weird little compass. Think low risk jumanji but you meet guru survivalist bear grylls instead of the human hunter guy.
Not my favorite, but this one (along with all of them) definitely has some good messages in it.
We LOVE the Bear Grylls books! A lot like Magic Tree House they are fun fiction combined with nonfiction information. In the Bear Grylls adventures the children have not only a personal challenge to overcome but also an environmental one, learning survival skills along the way!
Another great story! I don’t know why I expect these books to be anything other than fantastic. This storyline focused on going slowly and with purpose to do your best. Emerson and I both liked it a lot! The adventures are packed full of fun-facts and with a great storyline!
This book explains the jungle and rainforest in children friendly language and the pictures are a good addition to make it more interesting. I also like the "Did you know" page at the end of the book.
The book was fine I guess. I wouldn’t have chosen it for myself but it definitely teaches a valuable lesson I would say, but ik would be fun for someone a bit younger I think
This book series is a medium-to-fast-paced adventure series for children/middle-grade readers. While the actual books are fiction, they contain loads of nonfiction information for survival as well as for personal growth and wellbeing. My eight-year-old and five-year-old love them and I’m enjoying them immensely.
