Warning: Too rude for parents and for slimy toad little brothers
These are Horrid Henry's very own jokes: the jokes that grossed out Mom and Dad... that made Aunt Ruby run home... that sent Miss Battle-Axe screaming from class. Be horrid Read Henry's jokes. Then tell them to the world
Francesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.
She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.
Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.
Horrid Henry is at it again, although this time he’s really trying to make us laugh. Horrid Henry’s Joke Book, which is written by Francesca Simon and illustrated by Tony Ross is the latest in the series of stories about this rascally little boy who’s always trying to get away with something.
These jokes are exactly the kind that my daughter would have appreciated when she was seven to 10 years old. I know she would have told this knock-knock joke over and over again and expected her dad and I to laugh each time:
“Knock. Knock. Who’s there? Cows go. Cows go who? No they don’t, they go moo.”
The jokes are silly and often play on words, which is what many young readers adore as they are just learning the ins and outs of language. And because it is a Horrid Henry book, the jokes are grouped into categories that match Henry’s style. For instance, you’ll find Mummy’s Curse Jokes, Gross-Out Jokes, Scary Sitter Jokes, Underpants Jokes, and more. And of course, there’s a section for Perfect Peter’s Favorite Jokes, which Henry begs everyone not to read. Despite the banner that says, “Warning: Too rude for parents!” on the front cover, moms and dads should have fun reading these with their early readers.
What did the librarian tell the children in her class? Books are food for thought, but don't eat in the library!

This British import has sold over 15 million books world-wide, and has become a crowd pleaser in the US. Here, in Horrid Henry's Joke Book, Henry gets us to laugh at silly, gross and laugh-out-loud jokes.
Why was the Egyptian boy upset? His daddy was a mummy.
What do you call a ghostly teddy bear? Winnie the OOOOOHhhhhhhh.
Do zombies eat popcorn with their fingers? No, they eat the fingers separately ...
Waiter! Waiter! There's a fly in my soup? I'm sorry, sir, the dog must have missed it.
1st and 2nd graders love reading joke books. They can dip into them, share them with friends, and get immediate satisfaction from their newly acquired reading skills. Sometimes, joke books can be the perfect thing to switch on the light and wake kids up to the joy of reading. Kids who know the Horrid Henry characters will get the most out of this joke book, since several of the chapters feature characters from the stories. But as the jokes above show, there is plenty of fun in these jokes whether or not you know the characters.
I have not read every joke but I've read most of them. Some of them are clever and some of them are very hard to get. These jokes can make me laugh my head off or roll my eyes at. Some jokes I've heard before like "What goes 99-clonk?" I really enjoyed it. I read it for 45 minutes laughing every second.
This book is really funny and I think you will, enjoy it I have read the book for 2 hours and I'm still, not bored in addition to this I have read if twice I just can't stop laughing
The best part about this book are Henry's horrid comments throughout, especially in the "Perfect Peter's Favorite Jokes" section. Henry certainly deserves to be sent to his room after this!
