Chief reporter turned reluctant entertainment columnist, Shayne Winter, is hungry for a hard-hitting headline. All she has to do is convince her grouchy editor at the LA Chronicle to give her a real story; but all he wants her to do is write forgettable snippets and leave the real work to ace reporter, Ben Kosina. When Hollywood’s hottest starlet, Claudia Gilbert, is found dead, Shayne knows nothing is what it seems. After all, only yesterday Shayne was observing Claudia’s every move, ready to spill the latest celebrity gossip in her column. Shayne discovers Claudia was planning to sneak away on a secret trip, so how did she end up at home, dead? Despite all evidence pointing to Claudia’s estranged husband being the guilty party, Shayne, unlike Ben, isn’t convinced. Claudia’s whole life and career were orchestrated; couldn’t her death have been too? If Shayne can uncover the truth, she might beat the deadline for a real headline; that is, if she doesn’t end up in the killer’s crosshairs.

She has written for newspapers, magazines, and websites globally, and also written and edited several non-fiction books.
I got this book for free but that would not affect my review as I also buy Camilla's books when they go on general release.
So, onto Dead to the World, the second in the Shayne Winter book.
Shayne is still in LA, still writing a celebrity column and the obituaries for the LA Chronicle where she is following up on a lead about a model turned actress, Claudia Gilbert, taking photos of her outside the house she lives in.
She manages to obtain an interview with Claudia, but Claudia doesn't show up as she's been murdered.
The evidence seems to be stacked up against Claudia's estranged husband, Josh, but Shayne thinks he didn't do it, and the more she delves, the more she is convinced. Unfortunately for Shayne, Ben, the ace reporter for the Chronicle, thinks Josh is guilty as do the police.
Shayne decides to find out the truth, but as she discovers the truth isn't always what you expect, and there is a neat twist in the story.
I guessed whodunit about three quarters through, but this did not spoil my enjoyment of the story as I wanted to know the whys and wherefores, which for me is an important part of any mystery.
I like most of the characters and I enjoy getting the back stories on them and seeing how they all develop. Mike (the caretaker/groundsman of the apartments) makes me laugh, and Shayne's friends are likeable and interesting too.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next Shayne Winter mystery.
This is the second book in this series and I can say I was not disappointed. This is the perfect “who done it book”. Camilla Chafer is one of my favorite authors. I am on her ARC team and I love it. She is a wonderful author and sweet as can be. I really enjoy reading her books. My favorite series is her Lexi Graves Series. You should definitely check her out on Facebook @CamillaChafer.
In this book LA’s newest Chronicle reporter Shayne Winter is back and at it again. When she gets an interview of the lifetime and her client Starlet Claudia turns up dead, her and Ben are put on the headline story. The investigation heats up and everything points to Josh, the starlets husband. Too bad the same can’t be said of Ben and Shayne’s relationship, which seems to be cold. Will Ben and Shayne work out the relationship and move it to the hot and heavy zone? Will Shayne be able to find the murderer before it is too late?
This book had me guessing till the end with a twist that was very unexpected. I love the characters in this series. Camilla is slowly introducing move characters and building a great background. Mike is super funny with his trash talking. He has Shayne believing some pretty good stories. Their banter is sooo funny. Sometimes I wonder if maybe he is interested in Shayne a little more than he lets on. The story is steady paced and thrilling. If you love to read a good murder mystery then this is the book for you. I highly recommend this and all Ms. Chafer’s books. You will not be disappointed. *ARC provided by Camilla Chafer
Shayne Winter-one of the few reporters in LA with a conscious is back. This time she is following a tip from a pool boy's friend about "something" going on with an actress...for the entertainment column. Within days the thrust of the "something" has changed to murder, and Shayne and Ben (the one who has "her" job at the paper) are assigned to the story.
What a story it is. Murder. Pushy Mom/manager or as it was called, a momager. A divorce in progress, the almost ex accused. The "source in the PD" who is her friend and detective, Ashleigh not sharing much even though Shayne shares everything she has. (Everything?) After 5 dates Ben doesn't make any moves on Shayne and she is worried. Mike and his set of triplets. Well, you get the idea. A focused reporter on a story and slightly interrupted by the "is he or isn't he interested in me" part of her life. Put it all together with a touch of Camilla Chafer magic and you have a fun and engaging story.
I am a Shayne Winter fan because she is genuinely a nice person with principles. She manages to figure out things other people dismiss because she takes more time and care with the details.
This is the second book of the series and I hope there are more. I would like to see how some of the secondary characters evolve an have more resolution. But if it ends here, it at least ends with two fun and well written books to enjoy!
Camilla Chafer has an amazing talent for building the world that houses each of her three series. While the Deadline Mystery series is located in contemporary LA, it is the smaller world of Shayne Winter that we move into and come to love. Shayne is still getting used, but that doesn’t mean that she is going to settle into her new role as entertainment reporter and obituary writer. She has come to understand that Ben didn’t intentionally sabotage her new job and is developing a relationship with him, but she is working her hardest to create headline stories. Meanwhile, following a leading actress pays off when the woman is killed and something Shayne witnessed puts a twist on the story that no one else is interested in. Even Ben, who is willing to share the byline, is tied to the facts and not ready to follow her instinct very far in the case.
LOVED! This is a fun series that I just love! In it, Shayne is working with her job stealing sort of boyfriend, Ben, when a prominent Hollywood star is murdered. For the police, it's a slam dunk solve and the soon to be ex-husband is quickly arrested. For Shayne, things just don't add up and it seems too pat and easy, so she starts investigating on her own. Ben believes the police got the right guy, causing a bit of friction between them.
This is a fast paced fun novel that fans of the genre will love. I particularly enjoyed the fun dialogue between Shayne and the other characters - especially Mike and the triplets. Put this one at the top of your TBR list, you'll be glad you did. The author is on my must read authors' list.
I always look forward to reading Camilla Chafer's books and this one did not disappoint!
In the second book of the Deadlines mysteries, it has been a bit of a struggle getting used to LA, but Shayne is settling in nicely. Her new relationship with her coworker Ben may have started off rocky but is falling into place, and she has friends from unexpected places. Her job is heading in the right direction as well! Now she has a new mystery to solve!
I have very much enjoyed reading this book. The characters are great, the relationships between them are fun, and the setting is beautiful. The mystery is one that has quite a few ins and outs and there are a few possibilities of who the culprit is. All in all, I very much anticipate the next in the series!
Witty and Thrilling the life of an LA entertainment reporter and Shayne always does it in Style...
I have loved Shayne from her days in Montgomery but I have to say she really shines in LA even more so when she teams up with Ben even if he is a stubborn male at times lol
This is becoming a great series with awesome characters, Shayne, Ben, Mike, Ashleigh, Daisy and Jenna they make a great group meeting Lina in this book is another great addition, Shayne is settling into LA life and making great friends I am excited to see where this series goes and maybe in the future Lexie and Solomon could holiday in LA now that would be awesome.
After reading Deadlines (previous book in this series), I immediately bought Dead to the World. I was not disappointed. Shayne stumbles into another murder case, despite Ashleigh's (the detective investigating the murder) continued warnings to stay out of it! With help from her friends, Shayne breaks the case.
I must say, the ending was not what I expected! I was surprised when the murderer was revealed.
As far as Shayne, she just gets more likeable. It will be interesting to see if she stays with Ben (I hope) or ends up with Mike (who I think may really like her). I guess I will have to wait for the next book to see!!
The is the second book in the series and Camilla Chafer did not disappoint. I love the thrill of trying to find out who did it. She also shows her comic chops as well. Shane coming to grips with her new life in LA and coming into her own in her new job. She is meeting some new friends (contacts) on the way. Working with her kind of not really boyfriend/co-worker to solve a high profile murder she deals with the twist and turns of the case along with her uncertainty of her relationship in a humorous way that Camille Chafer has done in all of her books that I have read. Highly recommend this for a weekend relaxing read.
Another good read by Camilla. As Shayne is following a lead for the next potential headline, she finds herself with another murder. While the police have a suspect in custody, Shayne just knows that he didn't do it and sets off to find out the true murderer without stepping on Ashleigh's toes and interfering (too much) with her case. Throughout the book there are lots of plot twists and turns with an ending that actually surprised me.
I really like how Shayne and Mike's characters are coming along and hope to see more development with the rest of them.
Our top reporter Shayne(who is forced to pose as the obituaries editor and the entertainment column editor) again is trying to solve a murder. This time of a popular and beautiful TV actress who according to public opinion was killed by her estranged husband. Shayne believes the husband is innocent, she isn't sure who the killer is unless it's possibly the mother. Is Shayne correct about the husband? Does Shayne continue to date Ben or is Ben just trying to hold Shayne's career back so he doesn't lose his job as head reporter? Enjoy!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the second book in this series. Shayne Winters wants to be a front page reporter but is stuck on obituaries and entertainment. The two collide and she soon finds herself deep in solving the murder of an actress she was supposed to interview. Can she solve the murder in time? The author does a great job developing the characters who are a part of Shayne's life. We are growing to know each one and wonder who is right for her. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Camilla Chafer has written another outstanding book! Dead to the World is the second book in this series and it just keeps getting better and better. I love how she develops the characters, so you get to know them and the relationships they are building with each other. Shayne comes across another murder to solve in her quest for the truth and the front page. If you enjoy mysteries you should definitely check out her Lexi Graves series!
This is the second book in the series and I enjoyed it even more than the first. This book was the perfect balance of mystery and humor, with a little bit of romance. Great plot that kept me guessing until almost the end. I look forward to the next book and seeing the relationships grow even more. Another great read by Camilla!
Shayne is still writing a celebrity column and the obituaries for the LA Chronicle. She yearns to get a real scoop and has an interview set up. She always seems to find herself embroiled in Murder and mystery. This is the second book in the series. I love Camilla Chafer as an author and do not believe I have read anything of hers that I did not like.
"Dead to the world" was written in a perfect way to keep the reader interested and wanting more. Anyone who likes who-done-its would enjoy this and any of Camilla Chafers' books. I love her character she makes the real and familiar . I'm looking forward to reading her next story!
I love this series, and book 2 did not disappoint! IT is a quick summer read that will have you guessing whodunnit throughout. I'm excited to see what is in store for Shayne in the next book! *ARC was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.
This is the second book in this series. In this book, Shayne continues with her career and relationships are developed from the first book. Again we have a mystery but also some humour and laughs along the way. It's best to read book 1 first as this story builds on that.
This is a fun summer read. Even though I'd figured out who the culprit was early on, I still enjoyed it. It was just fun. I like Shanye's character, she's honest, vulnerable and relatable.
Love this book! I love following Shayne's reporting and the trouble she gets herself in following a story. Never a dull moment throughout the whole book! Can't wait for the next one!
2nd in the series and you won't be disappointed! Who was where when?!?! If you want a story that will keep you guessing, and reading every word, this is it!
Shayne is surprised when one of her celebrities is killed and while trying to get the scoop, ends up working with Ben and finds out he isn't the man she thought he was.
I love Shayne and learning of her starting over in a new city and the friends she is making. Her and Ben's confusion on their relationship. I especially like the teasing between Shayne and Mike.
I am ready for the next book to catch up with all the wonderful characters again.
