The World Before

Rate this book
For all the centuries of his life Brath has hated God’s favorite creation: humans. Tired of wandering the earth after being cast down from heaven, he has begun to formulate a plan for vengeance. Little does he know, there is a soul about to wander into his life who will forever change his plans.
Mathieu meets the mysterious man who runs the corner coffee shop; intriguing, and a great storyteller, Brath appears angry at the world. Unbeknownst to Mathieu, Brath has an immortal secret that will put him in harm’s way, when Brath—the Angel of Death—puts his plan into motion.

Synopsis: Brath is an angel who was banished after the wars in Heaven. He is resentful of humans because they are not perfect beings, yet they are given free will and angels aren't. Although Brath has been living on Earth for thousands of years, he still doesn't like humans. However, two demons that he rescued from Hell, and arguably his only friends, operate a coffee shop, and Brath doesn't really have anything else to do, so he is there, too. Brath has a plan to get back at his father and brothers, and he won't let anything get in his way.
Mathieu is an author who loves coffee, even when the coffee is terrible. He meets Brath at a coffee shop near his place, and the two strike up a connection. When Mathieu finds out who Brath really is, he has to make a choice of whether or not he will be with him.

What I liked: the story. It was interesting and held my attention. I liked Brath and Mathieu together; they had the right combination of sweet and tart. I liked the secondary characters, and the fact that not everything was black and white, that there were choices to be made. I liked that Mathieu pulled Brath out of himself, and showed him that there was much to enjoy about Earth.

What I didn't like: There was a lot happening, and it happened within a relatively short period of time. There was also a little bit of confusion, for me, caused by poor punctuation and what appeared to be missing words. In one of the instances, I wrote it off as kind of a stream of consciousness thing, but that didn't make sense the other times it happened. I was pulled out of the story by this, and never got in to it as much after that.

Overall impression: I'm intrigued by the world building and the characters themselves; I would read another book by this author, and another in this series.

This is the surreal story of Brath, a demon who is Lucifer’s brother. He is stranded down on Earth and running a coffee shop with two lower class demons. One day a writer, Mathieu, comes in and for some reason he keeps coming back even though the coffee is terrible. Brath and Mathieu fall for each other but what happens when a demon who will live for ever falls for a human who doesn’t?
This is a thoroughly enjoyable read by this prolific young author. Her writing keeps getting better all the time.

4/5

Interesting idea (that actually remind me of DC's Lucifer) that's handle brilliantly for the length of the book, and beautifully written. My only complain is the transition of the ending which drains some of the emotion away. However, it was still a satisfying and heart-warming end nonetheless.

Stumbled upon this book in the "customers who viewed this also viewed..." on amazon the cover grabbed me, though it's not my usual genre, the paranormal flair got me. This book actually really surprised me! Kind of reminds me of Anne rices vampire series: the way she creates a stunning worlds mixed into the human world with such ease and simplicity.

This is definitely one of the most intriguing books I've ever read!
It is surprising, fast paced and full of twists - it is impossible to get bored while reading.

Ella Primrose was a new author to me and I did not know what to expect. This story is just FANTASTIC! It connects present times with biblical stories; archangels, cupids, demons and regular people and the final mixture is just delicious.

I loved author's writing style, the way she created the world here (her vision of hell is refreshing!) and that she could keep me interested from the first page to the last one. I only wish it didn't end so abruptly - I would appreciate a few more pages with Matt and Brath.

I hope there will be a story for Keith, Garreth and Jakob as well. I miss them :)

I recommend this book to everyone who likes some fantasy/ stories with angels (and seriously, who wouldn't like to read a book about the Angel of Death falling in love??)

A MM Romance story about angels, demons and the love between one of the most dangerous demons of hell and a human. When Brath, Lucifer's brother, is trapped in the human world without his powers and falls in love with a young man named Mathew, their lives change forever. A sweet romantic story where the immortal one is going to change himself completely in order to be with the one he loves more than anyone and anything else. I enjoed reading this book till the sweet ending and I'm looking forward to read more MM Romance books from this promising author.

It was so slow getting into the story.
The names got confusing things were only told halfway and without enough detail to make sense.
Neither MC was sympathetic.
I just barely managed to finish.

This one was a bit longer than the first one I read by this author and I really enjoyed the story. It kind of started off slow but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. This one isn't very smutty so if that's what you're looking for this isn't the book for you. The angel of death falls in love with a human unexpectedly and when before he had no issues leaving the human world behind, meeting this human has changed everything. Mathieu was never good in the relationship department and wasn't sure he would ever find the right person until he meets a guy he can't seen ti stay away from or stop thinking about. The only bad thing is this guy isn't exactly human and doesn't have the best reputation. I can't wait to read more from this author.

I really enjoyed this story it was unusual but very interesting, this is the 2nd book that I’ve read of this authors and I look forward to reading more of her stories. This is a m/m story about Brath who is a fallen angel he hates the creators most loved creations and that’s the humans, meanwhile he plots his revenge against them until he meets Mathieu who keeps coming into Brath’s coffee shop. They eventually fall in love but how will it end with a fallen angel who will live forever and a human who’s life span to a fallen angels is like the blink of an eye. This is a fantastic story it will take you a bit to get into it and once you do you will love it too and I recommend this book.

This was a very interesting, and unique romance involving a human, Mathieu, and a fallen angel or demon, Brath, who actually loathes all mankind. It held my attention for the most part, and the characters were considerably warm, funny, and captivating, even the demons. :) I like this author's style of writing, and I'm sure that I'll be reading more of her books.

A human-angel relationship heading south

The book is alternately funny, heart warming, sexy hot and thought provoking. I was pleasantly surprised that the story did not follow the formulaic structure of most paranormal romance novels. Refreshing. It makes me want to read her next book.

I have to admit, I almost gave up on this book. I tried to start it a couple times. Would read a page or two, then put it down and start something else. But that was mostly all me because once I really started to read this story I could bot put it down. It sucks you in with the small teases of insight as to what is going on. Keeps you guessing at everything that could be going on, and on edge waiting to see if you re right in your guesses. I really liked this take on fallen angels. How they have been here since the start, but humans who are here and gone in a blink of their existence can teach them so much, in the smallest of ways. And their are demons who cnt make coffee too!

Brath is an angel who was cast out eons ago. Like all other angels, he was built for specific purposes, and even after eons of time amongst humans, it difficult to override that programming. Add into that revengeful desires, Brth is set in his ways, and in his plans.

But the Mathieu keeps coming to Brath's coffee shop. And his soul smells of cinnamon, and he's interesting, and smart, and Brath can't stay away. And now it's time to enact revenge, but can his heart take it?
