A much-loved member of the community is left fearing for her life when the discovery of a bundle of old love letters rekindles long-concealed tensions caused by a fortune teller's ancient prophecy. Will justice be done before the prophecy comes true? Book eight in the Charlotte Denver Cozy Mystery series. Please note; This book is written in UK English and contains no strong language, violence or scenes of a sexual nature.
I so love these characters. Charlotte & husband DCI Nathan have such a loving relationship. Their 6 yr old daughter Molly is quite a little character. I laughed out loud at some of the things that pop out of her mouth. The senior squad made up of Betty, Ava, & Harriett are colorful & eccentric. There is something so delightfully different about British whodunnits, more cerebral. The small town setting of St Ives charming & the plot intriguing with all its twist & turns. And the ending brought the biggest smile to my face! Sherri Bryan has done it again!!!
While I usually enjoy this cozy mystery series I found this installment to be tiresome. The mystery was predictable, it was easy to figure out what the conclusion was going to be. I like it better when Charlotte is in her cafe. This book was centered on her friends in a retirement community. I've never enjoyed these characters, but usually they are minor players in the story. In this book however, they were the center of the action. I found the catty, old ladies who shunned Betty to be ridiculous. While I realize this does happen in large groups of older women in retirement communities, I don't want to read about it. Hopefully, book 9 will be better.
I love this series of books by Sherri Bryan, these was the first cosy mysteries books iv read (+ set to not the last) and they've certainly not disappointed ... The characters are so likable... The plots are always interesting and keeps you gripped right until the very end!
I would definitely recommend them 2 anyone who loves cosy mysteries or who are like me and just wanted to try a new genre
Well done and thank you Sherri another fab book in this amazing series xxx
Betty Tubbs is reminded of a fortune teller's words from more than 50 years earlier when she receives a bundle of never read love letters. After seeking a new fortune and receiving the same message, Betty now fears for her life. Charlotte and the gang are on the case after a skeleton is pulled up from the sea, and another death touches too close to home that may have something to do with the prophecy.
I found this book to be very entertaining. I did not imagine who the killer was at all. Was taken totally by surprise. I liked the little surprise Charlotte had for Nathan at the end. This was a clean read free of cussing and sexual situations.
