Stepcest? Brocest? It sure cut the edge of twincest since Amazon hasn’t banned it yet.

Well this kinda, sorta, maybe twincest book took a looooooonnnngggg time to get going. And as dark as it was made out to be, it felt rather transparent.

I felt like I was driving behind a motor home on a two lane highway, hoping it would pull over so I could finally speed up past 50MPH. Nope! That dang motor home didn’t even stop at scenic view spots. So what ended happening was that I didn’t get to where I was going because in trying to pass this forsaken beast filled with tourists, I almost fell off a cliff.

Yes, there’s a mighty big cliffhanger with many issues unresolved. Will I continue on in hopes that the dang motor home pulls over for gas? Yes, I will, because I will give this author the benefit of the doubt.

Dark and twisted...and a little unfocused. But, I think that comes with it being only the first installment of a series. (Although, I think it would have been better served to have the complete story all together because it feels more like a serial, which is NOT the same thing.)

There were things that irritated me, things that pissed me off, things that confused me and things that creeped me out. I felt like the characters were very immature (even at 18 yrs old) & two-dimensional, the pacing was off, the dialogue was cringe-worthy sometimes, the plot was a bit boring and the "mystery" is turning out to be anything but; plus, I can see how the whole serial-killer POV movie-making dealio is gonna play out without any effort. None whatsoever.

But, it's Twincest so of course I'm going to keep reading anyway. Beggars can't be choosers and all that. #SorryNotSorry

Gavin and Bain

Something I really crave to read. What's not to love....?
An adorable twin with a strong connection and a strong desire for each other....but are still denying it. They don't really expect the other will feel the same...

Bain always touchy all over Gavin, who almost can't hold back. Gavin all protective over Bain and biting heads off who dares to touch Bain....

After being separated for a year they will follow the same study at the film school. They have a room together and their yearning for each other is heavy... some sensual building up scenes will follow....

I don't want to spoil to much so read it yourself... I only will tell there are other student(s) I want to smash and there is an unknown history....

There is more going in this story but I'll have to be patient for part #2. Which I certainly will buy.

I don't know have many books this series will have.... it has somewhat slow pace... I expected a darker read and a lot more sexiness, so I think this will be spread out over more parts of this series.

I hope part #2 will follow soon :)

Holy shit. I just read twincest. Don't judge me, ok? For me, this is only fiction. I really love the passion between them. Great UST. Slow burn. Because they've been separated for at least a year before going back to uni together. They didn't know that they've been falling in love with each other all this time. So, yeah imagine that. And there's also mystery-suspense plot in here that I liked very much. Because it's unpredictable. I have to say the epilogue did creep me out.

This is quite different from what I've been reading from Mrs. Black. You always get a different vibe from each book/series. I love versatile boys. But I love versatile authors even more.

Wow, I don't want to be mean or overly negative but I didn't enjoy this book even a little. It had nothing to do with the taboo content. I am a big fan of taboo and was looking forward to checking out this twincest book. Unfortunately, it was a big fail for me. The writing, the pacing, the plot, the dialogue; none of it worked for me. I'm actually really surprised because I really enjoyed the Kage trilogy by this same author. I had to start skimming just to finish this book and I will not be reading the next book when it is released.
This book is only available through the author's website if you are interested in checking it out for yourself. Maybe it will work for you, though I don't recommend it.

This was so much more than just your average incest story. In fact, when you first start reading, you'd probably never suspect it. Twincest may be taboo, and it may easily be branded to be a poorly written story because there is twincest, but you'd be wrong with this one.

Now this could've obviously turned out into some cliche twincest novel, but it didn't. Not that I expected to, because come on, this is Maris Black we're talking about. She doesn't do cliche.

The depth to the main characters, Bain and Gavin, was so deep, its bound to carry over into the next novel. Because yes, this is ONLY BOOK ONE. Yes you read that right, BOOK ONE.

Bain and Gavin may look exactly alike, yet they're so different. They have a lot of things in common and from the very first page, you could tell they shared a deep bond. Everyone else is simply an outsider, just not in the intentional creepy way. They're both introverted and both want to be filmmakers, and go to the same film school. They'd just rather stick to their own thing. Oh man, they sound like my ideal crew to hang with.

Bain is considered the 'sweet' one. Gavin the 'mean' one. They had just spent a year apart from each other. Bain stayed, it was Gavin who left to England for about a year. So they've finally just gotten back together. The school they go to has a real creepy vibe to it, but maybe that's just my opinion. Maris was really good with creating an environment, and weaving one hell of a story into it. I swear her words will never fail to bewitch me! Hence how it just about took me under 24 hours to read this book.

It has a rather, slight touch 'Flowers in the Attic' kind of feel to it, and this is a good thing. Judging by what I just read in the epilogue, something really twisted happened. Obviously I won't say here in the review because that's something you need to see for yourself.

There is so much to the story I want to squeal and fanboy about, but I would hate to post any spoilers. It's really good! And that didn't come as a surprise, because again, this is Maris Black we're talking about!

Dark Needs is about as taboo as it gets, with full on twincest. If that’s not your cup of tea, don’t bother reading it. Just saying.

There are two versions of this book. One is the original Dark Needs, in which Gavin and Bain are full twins—that’s the version I’m reviewing here. The other is the sanitized version where they are step-siblings…technically. That’s because Amazon wouldn’t sell the first version because it was too taboo. If you want the real version, you’ll have to buy it directly from the author’s website: www.marisblack.com.

Onto the real book. I liked Dark Needs a lot. The chemistry between the twins was hot, and their slow burn was well developed into more. You could see it coming, of course (pun not intended), but that’s fine.

Gavin and Bain both have distinct personalities, and that was well done. I feel like they were different enough to stand out from each other. I loved seeing them grow closer and closer and finally cross that line you know they’re gonna cross.

That being said, it was the secondary characters I had a bit of an issue with. Leo, specifically. He was too cliché for the ‘villain’ and that was a shame, because the setting had the possibility to make him more complicated and multi-layered. His behavior towards Bain was a tad too over the top and predictable for me.

The pacing of the book was a tad slow at times, and the misunderstandings between the twins were too spun out. But those were all minor things. The writing was solid aside from pacing and a few clunky dialogue lines, and there were no editing issues.

I’ll definitely be reading the sequel, also because at the end of Dark Needs, Gavin revealed a dark secret that will undoubtedly have consequences.

Meh... while this was taboo the actual story had no real plot and was kind of drug out. It seemed like all the good plot was going to come from book 2... which I see no record that that ever came out. Also wtf was that ending....

AHH great sex. That's all I can say. Not that great of a story or writing but not totally garbage.

That last chapter though...I really didn't understand it. I mean, I don't think it was rape but I literally couldn't come up with any other situation that scene would make sense in. If someone would explain what happened to me I'd be grateful.

3.5 star review - This story begins with twins Gavin and Bain reuniting to attend film school. They are somewhat famous in that their parents are celebrities with his father being a well-known author. Their parents were pretty much focused on themselves, so they spent much of their childhood on their own which only strengthened their twin bond.

Bain is gay but believes his brother is straight. He has hidden his feelings and tried to focus on their goal of becoming film directors together. Gavin, on the other hand, has hidden his secret of being gay and having feelings for Bain, going so far as to leave home to spend a year in England. Eventually, the jealousy and possessiveness takes over and they are forced to confront their feelings.

Meanwhile, others in the school have brought Gavin and Bain into their clique which has added a little mystery to the story. Their leader seems pretty shady and, in fact, does some pretty shady things, especially where Bain is concerned. But, again, this is what has also helped Gavin and Bain take that next step in their relationship.

This was not nearly as taboo or as dark as I was expecting. Yes, they are twins (which is emphasized quite a bit), but it takes a while for them to actually do anything together. I think my biggest issue here was believing in them as a couple, which started with their first time together. Bain was a total virgin – barely been kissed. So, I was expecting a more involved “first time” than what we got. When it did happen, it was almost like a slip up which quickly turned to a slip out, and that was it. There was a noticeable lack of build up or prep. I tried to chalk it up to them being bumbling teenagers, but I was definitely hoping for more.

With this being the first of the series, I’m hoping we will learn more about these two and their family, plans for the future, etc. There were a lot of unanswered questions at the end which added to the mystery, but I feel like I really don’t have much of an idea about where this story is going. I’m definitely curious to get to the next installment and see how it all plays out.

Gavin and Bain are brother, identical twin exactly. After 1 year where Bain was in England, they start college together at Castle Otranto, a movie school.
Gavin and Bain as twin, have always been close, very close, but after 1 year of separation, they are like strangers, they tip toe around each other, repressing urges, dark deep urges.
I Adore this book
Yes, it’s a twincest, and no it’s not perversion.
Maris Black give us a book well wrote with a real story built admirably.
The feelings between the twin are really deep. They are tortured, ashamed and miserable about what they feel for each other. How they ended up breaking the rules and start to be together as a couple is really well describes and HOT.
The author could had given us a smutt book, where identical twin fuck each other senseless for hours and pretend everything is normal and moral (I will not complain about it don’t get me wrong). But no, here, she chooses to give us first all the emotional and psychic process about them, how two twin brothers who are the world for each other were in love. Because that’s what is it about them, deep strong love.
Besides, all the book is not only about them, there’s a story and a plot with secondary characters dark and creepy (I thought about Leo…*cold thrill*).
So, yes, this book isn’t for all the readers, we talk about incest, real pure incest, between twin brothers who grow up together, there’s no confusion about this, but how the author presents it and built this is admirable and really well done.
I can’t wait for book2, I hope it will come soon, like really really soon (dear author if you read this review there’s a hint for you *wink*).
Anyway, if you want to explore your own dark needs, so Dark Needs is for you.

This was a pretty good read that I liked a lot. Gavin and Bain are the Murphy twins who look just alike and even have the same birth mark and then they are told that they are step-brothers which confused me. Bain is over the moon when his brother suggests they go to film school together like they always dreamed of doing. The problem is that Gavin has been studying abroad for the past year, and Bain feels abandoned by the one person he thought would never leave his side. Gavin’s betrayal has scarred him more than he wants to let on. He really wants to make amends for abandoning Bain and get back to the way they were before. Gavin has a secret of his own. Gavin is fiercely protective of Bain who comes off as naïve and too trusting at times. When they get to the film school things are not what they seem to be. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Bain and Gavin begin their first year Otranto Film School after a year apart. Bain was devastated when Gavin decided to move to England for a year alone, and he's still mad and hurt, but he hopes the two of them will be as close as they always were. Then, Gavin starts to get jealous and possessive of Bain, and Bain's not sure what it means.

There's a slow-burn, but I think it was necessary here. I loved the subtle touches they secretly gave each other. Gavin has always considered himself the strong one, the caretaker, so I was surprised with their first time. Knowing Bain was a virgin, I'm surprised by what happened. It was hot, but completely unexpected. I guess I just wanted more for their first time.

I wasn't sure where the epilogue was going since it takes place ten years ago. There's a little cliffhanger, but I wasn't bothered by it. It just leaves me with wanting the next book, but I wanted it long before that!

Twincest with plot!

Holy cow! This book rocked. Low angst but highly intriguing. The loveable brothers. The creepy antagonist. The hot and steamy scenes. There were so many hints of darkness in this book.

When will the second book come out? The wait is going to kill me!

Book & Author: Dark Needs by Maris Black
Rating: 4.5 stars

I screamed and ranted and almost threw my Kindle because this book got me so hard that when it ended-ON A CLIFFHANGER-I may have been a bit frustrated. But like I said I was sunk. Reading this wasn’t like any other taboo twincest story. It was a mystery wrapped in danger wrapped in a deep “dark” love.

Neither Bain or Gavin wanted to give in to their feelings. Bain we knew from the start loved his brother as more than a brother but thought was he was straight and a playboy. Plus he was hurt over how Gavin had treated him the year before. Gavin was hiding some secrets many of which hurt Bain and drove them further apart once they were back together at college. There is so much to their relationship that it was a lot to get to in one book...even if I was sad when it ended.

The mystery and danger was what kicked this book beyond other twincest books in this genre. It was a true mystery one where you think you know who all the bad “guys” are but in the end are you really right or is the author sending you down the wrong path on purpose? I freaking love that! I love thinking I know but there’s that part of me looking for clues in every scene and every word spoken trying to make sure I am.

I cannot wait for the next book to not only see more of Bain and Gavin and the evolution of their relationship but of the mystery that seems to live at that school.

DNF at 30%. ...And I'm out. All the characters were either insufferable or unlikable. Practically every single one of them was a prickly snob, even the kind nanny. There was a lot of telling instead of showing going on. The plot meandered forward at the pace of a pregnant snail and there were too many boring flashbacks (OK, there were two or three, but one of them had one of the twins obsessing about a sweater). The dialogue was weak. Practically nothing worked here. In what world the teen sons of a famous writer are well known celebrities?

To be fair, I probably would not judge this book so harshly if I hadn't recently read "End Scene" by Nicky James. That book also had twin heroes, who were also (initially) arrogant spoiled rich brats. Unlike the Murphys, the Charmings were also absolutely adorable. Their wit and charm were demonstrated, not declared, and they succeeded to be nice to each other for more than five minutes. Do yourself a favor, don't read this book. Read End Scene instead.

This book was so much more than I expected (and I should have known better, after the awesomeness of the Kage trilogy!). I went in expecting some hot twincest, and I GOT IT - hoo boy - but there was also a lot of other stuff going on, some of which is not explicitly stated and that I don't want to spoil, but that I think will play a big part in the second book. It is SO HARD to leave this review without spoilers, so I will just say that it was both hot and sweet (I love the brothers together), the characters really drew me in to the story, and I can't WAIT for the next one!!!

I really enjoyed Dark Needs.....it is taboo, so you have to be okay with that going in. I love the differences between Bain & Gavin and how well they mesh together. One is sweet, the other strong and protective. I'm looking forward to book 2.

Prepare yourself for a naughty twincest story between two boys who are SO in love! You have grumpy Gavin, the Tough Guy, the Fixer, the Protector, who absolutely HATES himself for his thoughts about his brother. Then you have Bain; the sweetheart. The trouble starter. The innocent one. I loved them both equally!

This story was an interesting ride. The banter between the twins had me cracking up, and the points of angst made my heart race and me FEEL THINGS. The sex—hot. The side characters and plot gave me an almost PARANORMAL feel, it was so creepy. First of all, they’re attending an ancient gothic college/film school. Then you have the freaky weird leader of the clique, and his freaky weird followers. Then you have their strange rituals. It also gives off a sense of mystery and danger that I did enjoy, but didn’t understand. Hopefully I’ll come to understand it upon the release of the next installment, Dark Lies.

The only niggles were that we got little to no information on any other people attending the film school, barely anything on their professors or classes, nothing. That definitely added to the eeriness of the story because it felt like the twins and the clique were the ONLY people around. EVER. Just CREEPY. And Victor—he ALSO added to the creep factor times ten. The epilogue? Completely threw me for a loop. I have no idea what to even think after a cliffhanger like that. So many questions yet to be answered.

I enjoyed the Kage series by this author...Will def keep an eye out for her!

Love is Love

It's the first half so I can only do 4 stars till I have a full story. I don't like or trust any of the Coven members. Each just as fake as the other. Gavin and Bain need to be on their own and to be able to express and explore their talents. As for their love for one another, I don't see why it so taboo. They are both part of a whole and they are not even really related. But even if they were, they aren't hurting anyone and it's not like they can get pregnant..so Love is Love. Love is never rational or logical or to be explained. It's a feeling the rules you and takes over every part of your being. I also love the differences between them and how they offset one another. It's really hard to see th e m identical when the personalities as so different. Gavin confident and protective and Bain sweet and a little naive. I knew right away the meaning behind that song was different for Gavin. You could tell there is true horror there. Gavin has to live with what happened that night and on top of it has to deal with creepy stalker Leo on top of if. My money is on their room being bugged and creepy Leo gets off on it.

Twins having sex .... this is really the extent of the plot.

Maybe I was hoping for a bit more plot and character building from a Maris Black as I really enjoyed Kage.

Or maybe I was hoping for an MM equivalent of Forbidden where you get to know the characters and incest becomes, well, forgivable given the harsh reality of the MCs' family situation.

Here, we've got twins that find each other attractive because they look the same and decide they want to have a good time. To be fair, it fulfills its purpose.

I got this free through a Prolific Works giveaway & I appreciate the author participating in that event. I'm mixed in how I feel about this & honestly think it's more 2.5 than 3 stars. It drags in places & has a lot of excess that I, personally, would have cut as an editor. There are some glaringly obvious plot points that are danced around to be fully revealed in part 2 & I don't like the incomplete story. There's no reason to do it in separate parts. The twins were good, but not great & both had moments that see-sawed my opinions of them resulting in an overall neutral feel for their story. If the next part is available for free, I'll definitely grab it to see if it improves the story. If it's gonna cost me $4, it'll be an easy pass for me because I can already guess where the whole Leo story is going.
