He flew P-3 Orion airplanes during the Cold War, joined the U.S. Customs Service as a Special Agent and Pilot fighting in the war on drugs in Central and South America, and later flew commercially for Northwest Airlines. Butch takes the reader on journeys through difficult and trying times, while showing them that there is no substitute for hard work and perseverance.

Great Read for AOCS Grads & Naval Aviators

I have to be honest to say that Butch and I had very similar family history. I am also an Aviation Officer Candidate School Graduate and a P-3 guy, except I was a Naval Flight Officer/TACCO/Mission Commander. He was a West Coast guy and I was an East Coast guy. He was a few years ahead of me but we knew some of the same people, Gunny Crenshaw and John Herrington to name a couple. What amazes me besides his painfully honest family history (mine very similar but I doubt I could ever write about it) is the vast amount of experiences he has had in life, from a high school drop out, to mechanic at a gas station, to a Navy P-3 Pilot, to a Law Enforcement Officer. A true American Dream/Success story. Very well written and a pleasure to read!
