Christian Hunt and the small band of Camp Holly survivors begin their trek west toward Hoover Dam. There, Doctor Tripp believes she and the refugees that have fortified the dam can develop a cure from Christian’s blood. Zombies are an ever-present danger, opportunistic humans threaten their very lives, and scabs are evolving into apex predators, with humans on the menu.
As if the near impossibility of making it past all of these obstacles wasn’t enough, Christian strives to search for his family. Did his parents or sister survive? And if they did, are any of them immune like him? His desire to find out what happened to them puts the entire mission in jeopardy. And what he discovers is that knowing is sometimes worse than not knowing.
With new friends, enemies, and dreadful discoveries, the companions will have to pull all stops and endure more pain and hardship than ever before. Christian learns to love, hate, kill, and nurture, all while trying to hold on to some semblance of humanity.
Is the road too dark and perilous for the fellowship to travel? Does Christian find his family? What new horrors will be revealed by the ever evolving Monostrovis Virus? To find answers to these questions and more, join Christian, Fish, Boomer and the rest of the motley crew on their Crusade!
Each episode has managed to top the previous. This book - 'Crusade', book #3 of the Hunt Chronicles series - has quite a cliffhanger for an ending. Hopefully an episode #4 will be added in the not too distant future. Kudos to narrator Joshua Story who does a tremendous job keeping pace with all the character voices as he flawlessly delivers a nonstop head-spinning free-fall for the listener.
Okay, no spoilers here, but if you have STILL not jumped on this series, you need to. It is very well thought out and the characters have depth. I will say that Christian annoyed me a bit in this installment. I understood his actions, but that does not mean I agreed or supported him.
This is more than your typical zombie fare. Much like many of the video games in the genre, there are a few of the undead that are more than just normal trudging muncher. And once you meet Tickle...well...I'll let you decide.
The biggest strength of this book for me came in the way Christian's sister was "handled". Again...sorry, no spoilers. But seriously, this is my favorite zombie offering of the year so far (and that includes my own stuff).
If you get the audio version, it is an even bigger treat. Joshua Story is sublime, and he handles women's voices so well you will think it is dual-narrated.
4.5 stars. Great book. I'll say it again... I've never read a "zumbi" story as good as this. I just wish Demers could hurry up, cause I'm desperate to know what's coming next. Mainly now that so many characters are coming and going. And these new "species" are growing stronger and smarter... So many miles ahead on this journey and I'm already hungry for the end.
If you enjoy apocalyptic books and series, run and start this awesome series. If you read the first two books, you will love this continuation, which is much more dramatic and exciting.
Join Christian and his fellows in this race for saving humankind.
This book was a roller coaster of action with event after event taking place, It feels like the story is getting faster and faster but really it's just the fact that this book was longer than the first two which was great. Lots of character development in this one and a few new characters introduced. Some more world building and lots of story development. The more the story goes on and the more time the virus has to evolve the more interesting it gets. I will say this book had a few moments where I finally started to question if I really liked the main character or not as he repeatedly talks about growth to survive in this new world and while there is some with his age, upbringing and the fact that he did do some time in the service even as support he sometimes acts like a petulant child. But I guess we as humans do that some times and the truth is most people never really grow up most of us fake it until we believe it. I look forward to not only the rest of the main story but some of the side stories the author has mentioned on youtube if they ever come out because I really want to know more about the characters. There are a few slips in this with the narrator where he used the wrong tone or voice for a line from certain characters where he would use another characters tone or voice but for a book this long he did a great job. If you haven't jumped on this series yet I highly recommend it as each book tops the previous one.
"Love the series, mixed feelings on the MC. " Overall I love this series. It is fast paced, has interesting zombies with a couple of nice twists and turns on zombie lore. I love the cast of characters and mourned the loss of a couple of well written members of the cast. The action/fight scenes are well written and had me on the edge of my seat. This entry in this series is solidly entertaining. My only deduction is the MC Christian, he is slightly annoying, constantly making (imo) a lot of TSTL decisions, actions that put other members of the group in danger (I'm sorry but he got a couple of characters killed with his dumb moves), and he is kind of whiney. But in spite of that, I am still rooting like heck for him to make it to the end game. A nice EOTWAWKI series for zombie fans. Very enjoyable, and I look forward to the next installment. Joshua Story is a terrific narrator.
From page one in book one this series does not let up action packed loveable rememberable characters and the dog I love the dog 🐕 this is the first zombie series I've read where it wasn't the same ole same ole you have the zombies which are bad enough but then you have the zebs which may give you nightmares I don't want to give it away but this is a totally different take on zombie s s must read O can guarantee you won't be able to stop till you've read them all can't wait for the next one Mr Demers please hurry up with the next one I am now a loyal fan of your work
I'm beyond disappointed that it seems this must be the end of The Hunt Chronicles. I've been searching around trying to find out if there is anything anywhere that explains why Mr. Demers seems to have just left the series hanging. I'm sure I'm not the only person to have recently discovered the series and blasted through all 3 very quickly.
J.D. please consider extending this excellent series!
I've been following this group for three books now, I can't put it down. Going through their setbacks and victories I'm intrigued. It's very well written. I'm able visualize what's happened. You will too. If you like this kind of story, I highly recommend it. I was hooked from the beginning. Or the end...however you'd like to view it.
If the best zombie novels I've ever read and hooked me instantly!!! Finished the entire series in two days while losing a lot of sleep and not getting much done... Sooooo freaking worth it!!!
I've enjoyed the series and this was a good addition. I offer my services as proofreader though. Maybe it's just my habits from grading papers but the mis-spellings and homophones distract me.
Hello, I really like this series. However, I wish my memory was better so that I didn't have to read the whole series over every time a new book comes out. Damn good stuff. Thanks.
The entire series was outstanding. There are so many out there that are fair or even good stories but fail because of poor editing. This one had it all. Great read!
