The brothers, James, John, and Jacob Patton of the Patton gang served their ten year sentences, with renewed threats to kill Sheriff Nelson and burn Taos to the ground. It would be a formidable task for the three, but for ten years their sons have been planning and preparing to help their father’s threats come true. Eight tough angry men and others who were drawn to the Patton reputation and a chance at a big payday soon joined. When Ben Blue learned of what Nelson and his two young deputies were facing, he checked his weapons and pinned on his badge. Ben and the scrappy Mike Flynn rode into Taos to stand with their sheriff and his inexperienced deputies. Ben, Nels, and the others stood openly to protect the town, while citizens of the town fortified their homes and did what they could to protect their families. As everyone was busy preparing for the Patton’s attack, an unknown and unseen person known only as Abe began killing random citizens. It was soon learned that each killing was a member of the original posse that had taken down the Patton gang ten years earlier. Even though Ben hadn’t yet come to Taos, when the Patton gang was caught, he had caused so many problems for Abe that he became a target.
Lou Bradshaw is a lifelong story teller, who spent most of his life as a commercial illustrator and graphic artist. Deadlines, clients, and vendors were all sources of sleep depriving stress. To combat insomnia, he would often create stories in his mind to take the place of what was bothering him. Soon, some of those stories had grown to the point that they needed to be put on paper. Taking up a felt tip pen and a loose leaf binder, he found something new, challenging, and exciting. He soon filled multiple binders and his distraction had become a passion. Upon retirement, he began assembling notes and scribbles into novels… the rest is history. One of the unique features of his work is that as a dyslexic child, he was considered either slow or lazy by most of his teachers. To date he has written 7 books, which is 6 more than he was able to read while in school. His only legitimate book report, although 3 months late, was Huckleberry Finn. Lou and his wife Avon live in the Missouri Ozarks, where they enjoy their family, golf, and the great outdoors.
Mr. Bradshaw's writing ability never ceases to amaze me and the Ben Blue series has everything a reader always looks for. These books overwhelm the most prolific readers, as I, for one, can certainly attest to that. I am definitely impressed with these magnificent stories and almost hate to read the remaining story, as I will definitely be at a loss after the stories end!
It really goes without saying, but five stars just doesn't do this series justice. I have been so impressed since book one of these stories and they just seem to improve with each new adventure.
I am definitely impressed with the storyline and character selection by Mr. Bradshaw throughout the entire series. He makes reference to prior, or previous novels, but nothing that ties any of them together.
The Ben Blue series is a well thought out set of stories of our old western era, and each and every episode has an overpowering pulse that captures my attention immediately.
I certainly recommend this series to those reader's seeking a family oriented storyline with enough unexpected bylines to keep anyone on edge. I was baffled throughout most of the books, unsure just where the author was taking me. PLEASE! Read these books, or the loss will most certainly be yours!
Ben Blue and his friend Sheriff Nelson of Taos, New Mexico are expecting a visit from the Patton Gang, who were sentenced to territory prison for ten years were soon to be discharged on May 1st. These three brothers threatened to kill the sheriff and burn the town down. Also someone or something was murdering the original posses members. So both Ben Blue and Sheriff Nelson started preparation to fight this vicious gang which included the sons and kin folk of the three Patton Brothers...This Patton Gang were hill people and had no respect for any lawdog..rough bunch reminds you of the James Boys...take no survivors, kill them all. Lots of action from every hiddie hole a body can squeeze in..Some dark humor and a few disconnect family members with anger shooting out of their ears...
I've enjoyed everyone of the books in the Ben Blue saga as well as ALL of the "spin off " books that have been penned by Lou Bradshaw. It's a shame AND a loss to the literary world that it took him so many years to decide to start writing. His wit and humor do not go unnoticed by the reader either. With Lou's books, One can easily sit and watch the movie unfold in One's mind and get caught up in the plot and the characters and just lose all track of time. Abe is another excellent read. WELL DONE Lou!!! Thank you and please hurry with another.
Another great novel in the Ben Blue series. Bradshaw knows how to gain the reader's attention from the first page. A gang has threatened to burn the town down and kill everyone who had anything to do with their prior conviction. Who will help defend the town? I highly recommend this author.
Once again Mr. Bradshaw has written a winner. This is a great addition to this series. If you enjoy a great western book you will love this series. Waiting on the next book in this series.
Thanks again Lou, for a really great western story! Lots of action(almost non-stop), lots of mystery, surprises, and turn arounds. You are getting better and better and even tho we had to wait for a bit, it was MORE than worth it.
This writer hit all the points for a good Western. As I read I could hear the sounds and actions taking place and unfolding. When a writer can do this, they have earned me as a reader of their work.
This book is standard fare for Lou Bradshaw which is EXCELLENT ! What a prolific mind this author possesses, evidently he escapes the curse of most authors, " writers block".
Excellent! Enjoyed every minute.Very clean and plenty of heros. Keep writing ! Thanks...Belinda Young from Mississippi. I recommend to friends and family ...read these books!
As you would expect a great book is Abe. I really like these books on Abe and Ben Blue. I look forward to more. Thank you Lou Bradshaw for a great read.
Half way in the book Ben should figure out that the mother was Abe because the reaction of Jonas and the foot size he was just a little slow but still a good reading
I really enjoy Lou Bradshaw's writing; errors and all. The stories that are mysteries though aren't as good. A reasonably smart 5th grader could have figured out who "Abe" was faster than Ben did.
Ben and Mike join Nelson, the sheriff, in Pecos to defend the town from a gang of outlaws who are committed to killing any lawmen and burn the whole town. Ben tells the story with wisdom and humour while identifying the outlaw gang members. The gang members and their younger members are intent on mayhem; however, the lawmen outwit the outlaws and protect the town. At the same time, members of the posse that had captured the outlaws and their eventual sentence to jail for 10 years are being killed one by one by Abe. The revelation of who Abe was stunned the lawmen. This was an interesting and story with well developed characters who bring it to life. Lou Bradshaw is an excellent writer and has continued to create believable western stories with a family centered focus. His Ben Blue series is not to be missed.
Wow! This series is well written and full of exciting action. Ben Blue is full of horse sense, and Patty Ann is full of grit. The Ozarks are a great place to live.
