The Protectors series crosses over with some of my other series, so for the most enjoyment, they should be read in order, but it is not required. You can find the correct reading order at the beginning of each book. I've also bundled all my series in the correct reading order under the title of A Family Chosen: The Protectors and Barrettis.

As most probably already know, I am a huge Sloane Kennedy fan !! She writes it and I read it. I like this relationship and I don't see me breaking up with her in the near future. I really do recommend everyone to read this and the other series !!
Anyways....this was another great read, though I have to say, it wasn't my favorite. In my opinion this one was a bit tame or mild compared to some of the other books, which I also understand. Some people would actually prefer a milder book I think, since some of the others have been quite gutwrenching and heartbreaking.
I am not one of those people though. I actually like it when a book breaks my heart into iddy bitty pieces and then puts it back together again. What can I say...I am weird like that :P
This book, though it had some sad parts, didn't really break my heart and it didn't make me cry. Now that's not to say it wasn't good...because it sure was...it was just surprising, since it's a Sloane Kennedy book.
Those of you who have been reading this series, have briefly met Nathan in "Finding Hope" (Finding Series). He is Brody's twin brother. Now that book did have me sobbing like a little girl. I really liked Brody and I was pretty sure I would love his twin brother Nathan as well, which I did....though it took me a while.
Nathan has been estranged from his brother since the moment his brother came out to him as being gay, when he was 17 years old. Brody expected his brothers support, but what he got was Nathan cursing him out and telling their father.
Nathan and Brody were raised by their politician father who as a governor tried to block gay marriage in his State. To say their father was a bigot is putting it very mildy. It was expected that both sons would run for political office. Brody eventually said "fuck it" and left....Nathan however stayed.
For a long time of his life, he believed his fathers bullshit about "gayness" being the devils work... Thankfully after his fathers retirement and some soul searching, Nathan did follow in his fathers footsteps....though on the completely opposite side... as a democrat. This however has left some people very angry and has caused serious threats to both Nathan and his brother.
This is where Vincent comes in. We have met Vincent briefly in "Revelation" (Protectors series). I was very curious about him and his mysterious ways. Vincent was a Major in the army, but he and his boyfriend were not honerably discharged, when they were caught holding hands.
The end of both their carreers has lead to some very tragic events. Now Vincent is quite the loner, but since he owes Dom and Cade...he has taken it upon himself to protect Nathan and get to the bottom of those threats, no matter how much he hates Nathan and his politician ways...
But we all know how close hate and love can be right...and how easy it is to go from one extreme to the next...
Against all odds, these two find peace and calm with one another. Even though Nathan has always faught against his real feelings, he didn't fight against being with Vincent. Once he made the decision he was all in, and I did admire him for that.
They had a lot to overcome and to work out, but like I said..compared to the other books, it was pretty mild. No worried, there is still some great action and even some blood :P
I myself am most curious about Jace and Caleb's story. When we met Caleb he was 17 and still too young to have his own story. Now that he is 19, the time has finally come and the next book in this series will be his !!!!
Sloane also mentioned at the end of this book, that we will also be getting Everett, Gage and Nash's story...Another MMM and I am absolutely thrilled by this since no one can write a MMM book like she can ;)

Annnddd another winner from this prolific author. For all the fans of the “Protectors”, “Finding” and “the Barretti securities” series, just go for it : no disappointment here.
Let’s rewind a bit : in the last book, the protectors needed the help of ex-military Vincent, a “ghost” with special skills helpful when in need to rescue people. As a favour for Dom, his old friend, Vincent agrees to look for a while after Nathan, an unconventional politician as he made a complete turn regarding his political affiliations and stance on gays, receiving some deadly threats against him and his twin brother.
Leave it to Sloane Kennedy to give us another fast-paced story with out-of-the chart chemistry between Vincent and Nathan, yummy and panty-melting sex scenes…plenty of them. And there’s again age-gap, Vincent being 50 and Nathan 30. Once again, I was sucked into all this.
Is it a standalone ? Not quite sure. The cross-over between series and books is more and more pronounced, and I quite enjoy that too.
Just a few more weeks before my next fix. I will be there !!!

4.5 for this one - enjoyed the connection between Vincent & Nathan. Of course Sloane didn't disappoint and her drama / angst formula works really well.... however this seemed a little rushed for me. Nathan suddenly accepts Vincent and it's pretty full on for a 30 year old virgin who was almost cemented in the closet ! The actual drama scene that had been built up all throughout the book lasted only a page or two which seemed like it was just thrown in ? Regardless- I loved the connection and I love this series !

Another addicting Sloane Kennedy read! Enemies to lovers + forced proximity.....yes, please!!
Nathan and Vincent had some great chemistry. From their explosive stubborn streaks to their blazing and desperate passion, these two were great together!
"Tell me what you want."
His dark eyes held mine. "Everything," was all he said.
When Vincent agrees to protect Nathan and rescues him from a horrible attack, he takes him back to his Fort Knox-like home...there, neither man could have suspected that their lives would be changed forever and that their meeting was a second chance in the making.
Both men wake up something in the other.
Due to his religious upbringing, Nathan has been denying what he feels for a very long time. He's slowly forging his own path, but certain fears are hard to shake.
And Vincent....Vincent has been living as a shadow of his former self since the loss of two of the most important people in his life, his lover and his brother. He's accepted his fate as a loner, who will live out the rest of his life that way.
But the attraction can't be denied. Both men succumb to the temptation and find a connection that they've both been yearning for, for so long.
Something deep inside of me cracked wide open at what this man was giving me.
So much more than just his body.
His trust.
His vulnerability.
Him.
God, I could see everything in his eyes.
The suspense element felt like a throwaway here and was a bit underdeveloped. It was needed as a setup to get Vincent and Nathan together, and then in the end it was resolved quickly and easily with a kind of dramatic thud.
The real point of this book is second chances. A second chance to mend broken relationships. A second chance to face your fears. A second chance to have the life you want.
As usual, the 3.4 million characters across Sloane Kennedy's different series show up and I had to remember who everyone was and how they were all connected (I'm very thankful for the chart on the author's website!). But one thing's for sure....these folks are family, and family protects and helps family. Even if, which is something I'm annoyed by, there really aren't many women in this family. Where are the moms? Sisters? Friends? Neighbors? SOMEONE??
But even with the issues I have, Sloane Kennedy's books continue to be an addiction of mine and this book was just the hit I was looking for.

This is really a 3 star - but I'm giving 4 because of the series. Nah. I'm doing 3. I struggled too much to finish for it to be 4.
OK. Enough crying man. These guys sob constantly - it just doesn't feel realistic. They are emoting all over the place. It's weird. It doesn't mean a guy cannot cry - but every time I turned around one of them was sobbing.
The story was very slow in the beginning. A few moments - that had tension but overall I did not get into this book until it was about 70% done -- that's pretty much a first for a SK book. I didn't feel like I knew either guy and I wasn't that invested in them. I think the lack of major interaction with anyone else but Everett gave Vincent and Nathan no opportunity to display who they were via their actions with others.
Plus the mystery of who was behind the attempts on Nathan's life - Lame. Just very very lame. It was completely anti climactic. Not much "edge of seatness".
I'm gonna hope this was a bit of a blip on the radar of some excellent series. This one does not live up to the the quality and standards I've come to expect. I'm hopeful Caleb and Jace's story will be better - if not it could be we have hit the downhill series moment -- that time when you should give up and move on. I hope not.

Defiance is another 5* read for me I love everything about The Protectors series I cannot get enough of these gorgeous mysterious men I meet in each book and the adventure I go on with each couple and I was super excited to start this as I met Vincent in Revelation bk7 and let’s just say he made an impression on me.
As with each book in this series Nathan and Vincent get off to a rocky start it was hatered at first sight for Vincent as he hates everything about what Nathan stands for and poor Nathan his life has never really been his own everything he has done has been for his father and public image even throwing away his relationship with his twin brother Brody.
I enjoyed how Vincent and Nathan's relationship progresses and how they both open up and start talking besides all the hot rough sex they have.
I loved that I caught up with some old friends in this book (especially Dom Barretti) and that they are all there to back each other up when the shit hits the fan.
I am happy that Nathan and Brody are FINALLY reunited and I loved the bromance between Vincent and Everett.
This book was easier to read than the previous two this one wasn't as dark and they might be OTT at times but I don't care I LOVE them all.
Of course now I have to start Unexpected I need to find out what happens between Everett and Reese and discover how Everett, Nash and Gage get together.
I would advise reading Finding Hope - Finding 5 first so you know the backstory for Nathan as I put this on hold to read that first.

*** Wonderful GFY M/M romance with action ! ***
This is another great story with a marvelous pair of men in the Protector Series by Sloane Kennedy. We are lucky to see so many of the previous characters, too.
* Nathan, 30 year old Senatorial candidate's life is in danger.
* Vincent, in his late 40s is muscled black ops professional will be guarding Nathan. Ronan's whole team will be available if necessary. The men don't get along at first, but Nathan needs to come clean on all the nasty harassment the enemy has been using to scare him.
The shock of Nathan's feelings toward Vincent surprises him, but he can not and won't fight it. If he's gay, he's gay. Vincent is an amazing man who pulls Nathan physically and emotionally. While confined and laying low, the men grow close. We get long conversations, pasts revealed, and needs that come to the surface.
These are two extremely sexy men, and it's first time M/M encounters for Nathan, and he's loving it. Love isn't always found under perfect circumstances. Plans are made to draw out the bad guys.
So we have the full blown excitement of a stakeout, battle and injuries. There is a surprise bad guy and a HFN ending. Nathan and Vincent must shift their lives to be together.
( We'll be seeing sniper Jace and Caleb in the #11 book. Threesome, Everett, Gage and Nash are in #10).
This is a great story, fabulous anticipation, hot lovin', action, and suspense.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

Another great read by Sloane Kennedy. My only complaint is with all the crying and sobbing these men do. It's getting to be too much. I'm willing to suspend belief that a 49 year old man has the sexual drive and stamina of a 20 year old but the constant crying has to stop.

They just keep getting better
So Vincent might, just might, have sneaked into the number one spot on my list of favourite Sloane Kennedy men, edging out Magnus and Ronan, who were already fighting it out between them.
Defiance is yet another brilliant addition to the Protectors cannon, filled with all the drama and angst and insanely hot men this series typifies.
This one concerns Nathan, the estranged twin of Brody from Sloane's connected Finding series. Brody is in a relationship with both Quinn Donovan and Beck Barretti, linking in to that set of hot alpha males too.
This is another of the things I love about a Sloane Kennedy romance, they are connected into such a wonderfully developed world with an unconventional family determined to look after their own.
Here the mystery was well hidden, I liked that I had no clue what or who the threat was coming from until almost the end of the book. There is always an element of 'suspend disbelief' with these books simply because of the nature of the setting. Secret service, black ops, off the grid assassins and dodgy government dealings in any spy thriller always need an element of just letting it ride. This one is no different.
But, that's not to say they're too far fetched, they're not, this kind of murky underworld does exist and I love how this author constantly finds new ways to hang her romances on it.
Nathan and Vincent were so good together, age gap romances are one of my favourite tropes, as are men figuring out their sexuality and coming to terms with loving another man. Vincent getting his second chance at love was also beautifully crafted.
I wish Sloane could clone herself to get out her books even faster than she already does. I can't wait to read Everett, Gage and Nash's story or to find out more about Reese and just who will be mending his broken world.
And, as always, I've never met a Jay Aheer cover I didn't love and this one is no exception, she captures the passion of the story within perfectly.

Colour me surprised because I wasn't too keen to read this one because .... politics, I was worried this was going to bore the pants off me and it definitely did not. The pace was fast with twists and turns and once again the author gave the characters each their perfect partner.
Vincent annoyed me with his push and pull, the bloke gave me bloody whiplash and poor Nathan didn't know his arse from his elbow with all the pushing and pulling. 😒
I really am loving this author's books; I know what to expect and eat it up with a spoon.

As May/December romance goes this story was one of the best. Ms Kennedy never fails to capture my interest with intense feelings her men have for each other, edgy plot lines and passionate moments. I liked both men despite the mistakes they made and hurtful words they flung at each other. I knew they would find a way to happiness.
Vincent St. James has isolated himself from the world. The life that he should have had was stolen from him. For loving a man the military stripped him of his livelihood, his honor, his dignity and his pride. If that wasn't enough after some time he also lost his first and only love. He made choices in life that built him a reputation that he prides himself in and at times regrets. I think he could never acknowledge to himself how lonely he was, and that he was ready to love again because he was scared to forget his lover David. But when he meets Nathan he slowly starts to see that loving again will not cancel all that has been before. Close proximity and intimate confessions break the dam, and his feelings come flooding free. He falls so hard, and he will do anything to keep Nathan safe even if he has to walk away.
Nathan Wilder's life is complicated. On the surface he has everything he can wish for but truth to be told he is lonely and hurting. His relationship with his brother Brody is in shambles, somebody has out for him and is trying to kill him. The unexpected almost lethal attack brings him toe to toe with a man that makes his breath hitch and makes his hands tremble. All his life he tried to forget and subdue all the desires his father and Church made him believe were wrong but he can't deny that when he is with Vincent he feels free, happy and simply right. Two men needed each other in all ways - to discover, to heal, to forgive and to keep the memory of loved ones close. Their relationship develops fast and is very intense. They both range from volatile to vulnerable.
When the truth is uncovered as to who is trying to hurt Nathan it becomes clear how vile people can be when trying to save face, how deep the betrayal runs. And it feels like things never be right again. But Barretti men never give up, and Vincent gets a second chance to love and have a life he dreamed of. It was so good, and I highly recommend it!

And it feels like things never be right again. But Barretti men never give up, and Vincent gets a second chance to love and have a life he dreamed of. It was so good, and I highly recommend it!

4 stars!! Loved it 💕😍.. Finally a story from the "Protectors series" that made me cry less than the MCs 😳. Nevertheless, this story was certainly a little less angsty than the previous few, not that it was low angst; just that the trauma level (as it equates to threat level) was yellow or orange rather than red 😱😭.
Nathan Wilder has no one to blame but himself for his lonely life despite his political aspirations and success. Influenced by his powerful and right wing nut-job father, he had turned his back on his twin brother Brody (Story: Finding Hope) many years ago which he now regrets😢. Now on a path to right all those wrongs committed by his father and his supporters, he is running for Congress when suddenly he starts getting threats both online as well as in person. Just when he's in the middle of a life-threatening ordeal; in walks his knight in shining armor, Vincent St. James. Although Vincent is not officially one of Ronan's "Protectors" , but due to his history with Ronan as well as the Baretti brothers, he steps in to protect and safe-guard Nathan till they find and eliminate the perpetrator. Despite Nathan's feeble protests, Vincent forcibly takes him to his own home which is probably more secure than Fort Knox. Vincent on his part, hates politicians and all government officials because he and his now dead partner were thrown from the military due to the politics of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. The work that he took up after that put his life and the lives of his loved ones in constant danger.. making him even more distrustful, paranoid and lonely by default. But when Nathan has an emotional breakdown, Vincent’s is unable to check his long dormant feelings and despite mutual apprehension they give in to their attraction. 😍💕
But can Nathan accept his own truth? Will Vincent be able to keep Nathan safe? What about keeping himself safe from falling for Nathan? What happens after the threat over Nathan is over? Can they find a future together? 💔😱
This was certainly a more action oriented story with a couple of new and interesting side characters. This was also a May-December romance but except the fact that their age was mentioned in the beginning, there was no other indication about the disparity in the MCs ages. Especially not on the physical side.. ie, the steam factor level was RED HOT!!🔥🔥🔥, the romance was sweet 💞and the HEA was wonderful💝. All in all another great addition in the series.. Highly recommended!! 👍👍

I think I found my favorite
I’ve enjoyed the whole series but something about this hit all the buttons for me. Maybe because Vincent is such a badass assassin and is an older man. Maybe because Nathan is a gay virgin in denial. Maybe it’s the bangin’ hot sex over the table. The plot is not quite as over the top as some of the books have been. Nathan had a troubled past but not a traumatic one, although Vincent had tragedy and heartbreak enough for both of them.
Things just seemed slightly more logical, although the scenario around Nathan’s villains seemed a little contrived. Vincent still made this book the one for me!
I liked meeting Everett and Nash, appearing in the next novel, since he’s going to be my age. Yay!

That's the first book in this saga to which i give 5 stars. Just because this was perfect. I just love Vincent. And Nathan? So strong. This is about a very closeted Nathan and a very broken Vincent. One is mourning his lost lover and the other feeling not strong enough to be the man he wants and need to be. We see them struggle all along but when they found each other...It's RÉAL, INTENSE, TRUE, BEAUTIFUL(their first love scene was so sweet 😍). It's my favorite of all the saga ❤️. Ronan <3 always love you!

I love this series but I'm going to be blunt and say that I'm not a big fan of all the crying and sobbing that has been going on in the last few books.
I appreciate when a tortured soul finds relief in crying/sobbing/falling apart. Sometimes it's absolutely necessary and cathartic. But I just have a hard time with it happening every day, every few hours, every time any emotional depth is needed in a scene. It seems like it has become a lazy way for the author to convey depth of feeling over and over again at the expense of real character development. Additionally, these sob sessions make me feel that they are inserted to emotionally manipulate the reader more than serving the character personality or anticipated behavior much, much too often.
I'll keep reading, because I love all these guys and I'm invested in the series but I hope this unfortunate "go to" emotional tool is used less often in favor of more wide ranging reactions to events and feelings in future books.
Oh and I guess I should add that I felt the sex scenes were pretty unrealistic for the age of the characters. 3 orgasms for a man over 50 in less than say, 2 hours? Not buying it. The whole book probably had more sex in 5 days then a 50+ year old man could manage without pharmaceutical help in a month. I love older characters but lets admit that there are age related issues to sex at different stages of life that can still be sexy and fulfillingly realistic.

There are several things I use to gauge just how great a book is:
Emotionally - just how many items does it tick off on the emotional roller coaster? Does it make my heart swell with love? Does it make the tears fall? Does it make me laugh? Smile? Cheer? Jump for joy? Does it make my heart go into overdrive with how hot it is? A book doesn't necessarily have to tick off all of those emotions, just some of them is good. But when I find one that gets them all? Not just once but over and over and over.....and that's not even at the 50% mark? That's when I know a book is not only great but that it's really something special.
Another measure for me are the notes that I take. When I'm reading - I highlight certain points that I want to notate in my review. Usually two or three spots that call out to me as meaningful. This book? I lost count at a dozen. The entire book was that meaningful, everything was that important. I don't know why but, like Nate, I felt relief as I read every word of this book, like it was written, not necessarily for me but because it needed to be written, because it was important. And when you read things like this, you'll know what I mean:
I felt tears stinging my eyes as an emotion I never would have ever considered bombarded me, Relief.
His lips brushed over mine tenderly. "Tell me," he urged. I didn't recognize my own voice as I whispered, "It's like I can finally breathe."
But it didn't matter. I had what I needed. Permission. To feel. To rage. To accept.
Go ahead. It's okay. It's okay to feel everything......finally......

I thought Nathan more than redeemed himself in this book because I know firsthand what religious dogma can turn people into. As such, I could easily understand that while Nathan's actions towards Brody were cruel, he really thought he was protecting his brother. It also helped that he realized his grave error and sought to remedy it. I always count it as a win in my books when someone does that.
Vincent's actions I also understood. He had ample reasons for the way he acted and the mere fact that he allowed Nathan in showed that he hadn't lost all of his humanity. Now, I didn't agree to the way he kept going back and forth emotionally with Nathan but I was relieved when he finally saw that he really couldn't live without him.
These two were great to read about. Though I thought things happened a bit too quickly with them, one cannot help the feelings that arise when the person you are meant to be with surfaces. *shrugs*

This was another solid installment of the Protectors series. The cast is getting pretty big, but it isn’t too hard to follow along and understand the connections, though there are quite a few of those as well. Nathan’s twin brother, Brody, is partnered with two men, one of which is the son of Dom Baretti. Vincent’s bff, ex-POTUS, Everett, was in love with Vincent’s now deceased brother. Everett’s estranged son now works for the Baretti clan. While, this story is about Nathan and Vincent, the connections play important roles.
Nathan is running for Senator after having made a complete u-turn and switching parties. He and Brody grew up with very religious nutjob parents who denounced anything gay as immoral and a sin having surely been lured by the devil. When Brody came out to Nathan, he was still under the heavy influence of his father’s beliefs and didn’t handle things well. He has likewise been in heavy denial about his own sexuality, but it isn’t really front and center until recently. Meanwhile, he has made some enemies and is now under some sort of attack by an unknown stalker. A favor is called in to protect Brody’s brother, and that is where Vincent comes into play.
Vincent has not had it easy either. He lost his first and only love to suicide when the military and government turned their backs on them, and he’s made plenty of enemies along the way in his line of mercenary/assassin work. So, he lives his life in the here and now believing someone could come for him at any time. He is reluctant to take on the task of protecting Nathan, someone who represents everything Vincent despises. But, it doesn’t take long for the sparks to fly between these two. Vincent awakens something in Nathan he has fought much of his life to ignore – that he is, indeed, gay.
What ensues is the men exploring each other and their explosive chemistry while they try to discern the identity of the stalker. Vincent realizes there is much more to Nathan that what he learned in his own recon, though he insists there is no chance of a future for them. Things happen fast in this story. Much of it takes place over the span of a week (i.e. the instalove/instalust), and once the stalker finally makes a move, things are wrapped up pretty quickly. Regardless, it was interesting and exciting and filled with lots of steamy sex and tender moments. These stories have become my guilty pleasure, and I know I can count on them delivering just what I need. There are a few more that have been set up at the end of this, and I can’t wait to see them unfold. Definitely recommend.

I was so excited and could not wait to get my hands on Vincent St James. He was just one of those side characters in one of the books that stood out and had me wonder what in the hell append to you to have the cuts and balls to shoot a guys dick into smithereens. (no joke he actually did just that)
I was excited and so afraid .... sometimes I build characters up in my mind and when it's time for their story, nothing can hold a candle to the height of my imagination and then it falls flat not because its a bad book, but it's because of my own crowning ceremony I had in my head for placing that guy on a pedestal with a crown and all.
But oh hells bells SK did do Vincent justice and she did it with Nate wow!!!!!!
I really loved how Nate did not stand back and just except everything Vincent through at him I like how he fight back it gave me butterflies just thinking of the electricity between these two guys I LOVE IT!!!
The way Vincent burst into Nate's life with glass shatters and gunfire raining down.... OH hell I just loved it!!!!!!!!

By far my favorite book in this series. It was soo good and I loved Vincent and Nate, they were adorable and sweet and just everything. I liked the angst in this one because it was there but not really. ;-)

This CANNOT BE READ AS A STAND-ALONE!! This is so misleading. The amount of characters from this series and others is almost annoying.
Ugh. Here’s the deal - I loved Vincent and Nathan!! They were great together. I loved the slow burn and relationship building. They both had some demons but ultimately found so much comfort in each other.
The back story with Vincent is like a gut punch. Between the deaths of two loved ones and his own life on line, he was super guarded and thought love wasn’t available to him. I liked that he was 49. We love a mature man!
Nathan was much younger - only 30. He was harboring a lot of guilt about his past regarding his brother and father. He didn’t feel worthy in so many ways. While the books start with him running for senate, there is almost no politics in this book. Which is fine by me.
The ending was rushed and anticlimactic like most of the books in this series. The bulk of the story is the development of the relationship and eluding to the past. It gets a 4 because at its core it is a romance and I did love these men. So this is probably more generous than it should be but whatever.
HOWEVER…you do need to read so many other books for the interconnected series to have any freaking clue what’s happening part of the time. This is a huge peeve of mine. Why is this whole damn thing not just one giant never ending series. Like come on. I don’t want to dedicate months of my life trying to work my way through only one author. It’s just so freaking frustrating. Furthermore, I would argue this book doesn’t even make sense for the series and should be part of the Barretti series instead. I was so irritated about this that I wanted to knock another star off.

Defiance bring us Vincent and Brody's estranged twin brother Nathan. We briefly met Nathan when he came to warn Brody about threats made against him. Nathan has lived his life protecting his twin, until one wrong choice broke them.
Vincent is a ghost. He is a little broken by a lover that left and a country that let him down. He didn't feel and doesn't want to ever let anyone in again. We saw him with Dr. Ethan and know that there is a heart in there somewhere but it isn't until Nathan comes along that his icy walls crack.
Nathan and Vincent are wonderful. Mate shows Vincent that love is worth the fear and "what if's" and Vincent shows Nathan that he is strong. He isn't a product of his past.
Fantastic yet again Ms. Kennedy. I cannot wait for Everette, Gage and Nash. Even Reese!

If you have not discovered Sloane Kennedy, I suggest you go right on out and one click.
Every Protectors book give you a taste of what's to come, so I was prepared for the mysterious Vincent and the enigmatic Nathan for a while. Nathan Wilder was twin brother of Brody from crossover series Finding Hope, Finding #5 and a senate hopeful. Major Vincent St. James made his appearance in Revelations, The Protectors#7 when he helped Ethan and Cain.
When Vincent was asked to protect Nathan, he would have rather swallowed lye. He had no love for politicians and worst, those who didn't know what side of the fence he should be on. But the past made itself known, and there was no way the ex militant could say no. Then he got first hand just how much danger Nathan was in and it was game on.
When your life changes, there is not much you can do except go with the flow or be blown away. When your life flashes before your eyes, you become grateful there's a guardian angel looking out for you. Nathan may not have been wanting help, but there was no way Vincent was reneging on his job. These two fought hair and nail, slowly falling into the romance of their life. Vincent, not knowing he was worthy of a second chance guided the timid and very interested Nathan in an affair with another man. They were so good for each other, but an affair lasted only as long as the participants were honest with what they wanted. Secrets and lies, self discovery and political drama, there was no way these two would not end up in the position they found themselves.
There is so much more I can say about this book, but I advise you to one click, read and meet the future characters, eg, Everette, former president and man with a past.Everette was a catalyst in Defiance and I am thrilled that he will be getting his story soon. Now I wait.
Defiance was brilliant. With Nathan's life on the line, Vincent unsettled about his past life and how everything was oozing into the present, and a tangible romance in the air, there was no way the readers were going to get less than the Sloane effect. Ms.Kennedy is ace when it comes to her storyline and yes, we are clear that these are broken men who just need love, there are often memorable lines that you just wished were yours.

Every Protectors book give you a taste of what's to come, so I was prepared for the mysterious Vincent and the enigmatic Nathan for a while. Nathan Wilder was twin brother of Brody from crossover series Finding Hope, Finding #5 and a senate hopeful. Major Vincent St. James made his appearance in Revelations, The Protectors#7 when he helped Ethan and Cain.
When Vincent was asked to protect Nathan, he would have rather swallowed lye. He had no love for politicians and worst, those who didn't know what side of the fence he should be on. But the past made itself known, and there was no way the ex militant could say no. Then he got first hand just how much danger Nathan was in and it was game on.
When your life changes, there is not much you can do except go with the flow or be blown away. When your life flashes before your eyes, you become grateful there's a guardian angel looking out for you. Nathan may not have been wanting help, but there was no way Vincent was reneging on his job. These two fought hair and nail, slowly falling into the romance of their life. Vincent, not knowing he was worthy of a second chance guided the timid and very interested Nathan in an affair with another man. They were so good for each other, but an affair lasted only as long as the participants were honest with what they wanted. Secrets and lies, self discovery and political drama, there was no way these two would not end up in the position they found themselves.
There is so much more I can say about this book, but I advise you to one click, read and meet the future characters, eg, Everette, former president and man with a past.Everette was a catalyst in Defiance and I am thrilled that he will be getting his story soon. Now I wait.
Defiance was brilliant. With Nathan's life on the line, Vincent unsettled about his past life and how everything was oozing into the present, and a tangible romance in the air, there was no way the readers were going to get less than the Sloane effect. Ms.Kennedy is ace when it comes to her storyline and yes, we are clear that these are broken men who just need love, there are often memorable lines that you just wished were yours.

“It’s like I can finally breathe.”
Another great Sloane Kennedy book! I just love this community she has created with her books. It's like having a group of old friends then meting new ones along the way and seeing how they all fit together, it's great!
Nathan Wilder is Brody Wilder's twin brother from Finding Hope (Finding #5). He is running for senate for the Democrats after switching sides from his Fathers very right-wing political constituency. He's has always regretted the big fight he had with Brody when they were younger when Brody came out to him. But recently Nathan has been receiving threats and as some mentioned his brother he reaches out to Brody to try and keep him safe.
Vincent is a virtual recluse apart from his best friend Everett. He was discharged from the military when he and his boyfriend were caught holding hands. Sadly his partner David could not cope with the discharge and his mental health started to decline and he took his own life. Vincent is still mourning his loss and living in his Fort Knox type house in the middle of nowhere. After helping out Ethan in Protectors book 7 Ronan asks him if he will help protect Nathan following the threats he has received. Initially he declines as he hates everything politics and everything Nathan stands for on paper but after being convinced by his old buddy Dom Barretti he accepts.
Once they meet there is instant chemistry and a connection between them and whilst Nathan is battling with himself over his new feelings for a man Vincent is struggling with wanting to dislike Nathan on principal and his guilt over his deceased partner. There's lots of back and forth as is common in Sloane's books and plenty of angst along the way.
“I’ll always find you when you need me,” I said softly, right before I kissed him.
Once they sort things out theses two are really sweet together and protective. I love that Nathan stands up to Vincent constantly and doesn't let him boss him around. He's strong willed and sticks to his guns which I loved.
“Always,” he whispered, and then his mouth was brushing gently over mine.
Although probably unrealistic I loved Vincent's house, it sounded insane! And although I'd hate to wear one those watches are pretty clever devices! I loved Vincent's best friend Everett and cannot wait for his book.
“You’re it for me. I don’t need anything else.”
I gave this book 4 stars because although I enjoyed it this series dare I say it is just getting a little to repetitive for me and I'm really hoping there's something a little different next time. As I said I love this world she has created and I adore catching up with everyone. Looking forward to the next one and fingers crossed for something a little different.

Another winner from Sloane, although insta-love is definitely not one of my fave tropes. 4.25 stars from me, and a big raspberry 🍑 to Amazon UK for keeping us waiting more than a day later than other parts of the world to read this story.
Nathan became a very eager and willing pupil of Vincent's, once he'd been initiated into the world of men loving men 😉. He had been so far back in that closet, he was denying who he truly was to himself and everyone else...especially his twin Brody, whom he'd accused of being lured by the Devil [and thanks for that religious teaching Mom and Dad] when he'd had the guts to come out and tell his parents where to go.
If I have a niggle at all, it's that the 'stalker' storyline was over and done with very quickly, once we'd discovered who was doing the stalking and why
Not as keen on the M/M/M/polyamory stories that Sloane [or anyone else] writes, but I will read the Everett/Gage/Nash triangle story when it comes out [two older protagonists and a younger man...how can I not?? 😏]. Reese's story will be up next I believe, followed by Jace and Caleb's story Shattered.
