The Bars Between Us

Rate this book
I don’t have a damn thing in common with the beautiful rich girl who walks into my bar; she’s southern class, fancy cars, and designer shoes.
I’ve got a drunk for a mother, a cheater for a father, and a reputation for trouble I’ve more than earned.
I look the other way, pretending I don’t notice how perfect she is. She wouldn’t give me the time of day anyway. Until she shatters that first impression and shows me she’s so much more—everything I never thought I deserved.
After a lifetime of being a disappointment, I want to prove to her that I’m better than my past.
We have one tragic thing in common, and the thread that binds us together will tear us apart as it unravels.
Are we strong enough to break through The Bars Between Us?

I got this book after reading J. C. Red's review.
Thank you, J.C.!

I can only add, that the author takes very unusual, not really typical for romance tropes.
(Above all her male characters).

I liked the heroine a lot, but I didn’t truly connect with her.
She was full of contradictions – she was sassy and strong, but at the same time vulnerable and very forgiving. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just a bit confusing. The hero was a major jerk at the beginning, and also toward the end. I would have never ended with such man, despite him being a good human. I’m not into saving lost souls and jezz, but the heroine was *lol*

I enjoyed the book till approx. 50%, and then came the drama. I must admit I was surprised. Unexpected twist. I didn’t quite like it, but it was adventurous.

Definitely very talented and refreshing different author,
who loves her female protagonists (she doesn’t write doormats; she didn’t make them unnecessary suffer; they are not weak and they have brain!).

I will keep reading her books.

HE DOESN’T DESERVE HER
HE DOESN’T DESERVE HER
HE DOESN’T DESERVE HER
HE DOESN’T DESERVE HER
HE DOESN’T DESERVE HER

Well, if I have made that clear, let me talk about this book in more detail...

*********************************************

The hero, Bronn, had a hard childhood, with a mother who never cared enough for him and a father who cheated on his wife with Bronn's mother. He was really wild for a while, especially after the death of his father. He was in prison for many times for small crimes like robbery etc. Now, with the help and support her half-sister, he is building a better life for himself.

*********************************************

Grace is the epitome of a perfect woman, and I loved her very much. She is kind, loving, friendly and as her name suggests, graceful. She is also a smartass, a sassy woman, who puts Bronn in his place when necessary.

She was just a bit too forgiving for my taste. Her sass required a less forgiving woman. She was a contradiction sometimes because after giving him a piece of her mind, she quickly forgave his awful behavior.

*********************************************

Bronn has had a chip on his shoulder for a long while so he thinks he doesn’t deserve Grace. No matter how much she tries to prove otherwise, he acts like an ass and tries to sabotage their relationship all the time. For that reason only, Grace sounds more like a decent adult whereas Bronn sounds more like a spoiled child. I don't like such men and I never liked Bronn.

*********************************************

Also, the chapters told from Bronn’s point of view didn’t always sound convincing and appropriate. Those chapters contained sentences like the one below, which is, I believe, never a thought that occurs to a man.

I follow the length of her toned bare legs and see that they end in a pair of tan wedges, her manicured toes peeking out. She’s holding a designer clutch that is the exact color of her shoes.

No man looks at a woman and describes her like this in his mind unless he is a bit feminine.

*********************************************

Bronn usually acts like a moody b*tch. For example, Grace goes to visit her grandmother and although she said she would come in the evening, she was only able to come back at 3 a.m. and Bronn throws a temper tantrum, pissed at her. He is angry that she never called. He says: “I spent my entire fucking day waiting for you. Checking my goddamn phone obsessively, my stomach falling each time there was no word from you.”

Well, if you were so worried about her, why didn’t you call her, you dumbass?! Isn’t he acting like a temperamental b*tch?

Oh he also knows in many cases that he is not the man he should be but a b*tch. These are his own words: "I know I’m acting like a little bitch. Any kind of decent man would be off taking care of his woman after a shit show like that. But, nope, I’m at home lying in bed staring up that the ceiling and licking my wounds. Hell, maybe it’s better this way. Maybe now Grace will finally see who I truly am and give up on me once and for all. A knock on the door startles me out of my pity party, and I turn just in time to see Grace’s perfect face peek around the door.”

Of course, Grace always puts him in his place, sometimes with her kindness, and sometimes with her sass. She says he needs to man up.

"Grace fucking Monroe was a force to be reckoned with. Even after the traumatic day she’d had, and then the shitty way I’d treated her, she’d stood strong and given me the what for that I deserved. She hadn’t run away and cried over her broken heart. She hadn’t let me ruin things between us. No, she’d told me to man the fuck up.”

And finally, he decides to man up and starts to trust that Grace really likes him and she is in this relationship for the long haul.

*********************************************

They have a few weeks of good time but of course, something drastic happens that bonds them in a dangerous way and Bronn once again proves that he DOESN’T DESERVE Grace.

She begs and begs him to listen to her, she begs him to try to see the events from her angle, she begs him to believe her but he DOESN’T BELIEVE her and breaks up with her.

Days pass and Grace is the first one who makes an effort. She tries to talk to him and she once again tries to tell him the truth, explaining the things he never knew but even though he agrees to listen to her, he still refuses to believe her. And Grace finally sees that they are done.

She says something that made my heart ache. She simply says, “I would believe you.” But that bastard doesn’t even give her the benefit of the doubt. He just discards her from his life.

She drops her voice to a whisper. “I would believe you.” Her eyes shine with loyalty, and it hits me square in the gut to know that she means exactly what she’s just said. She would believe me, no matter how crazy the story seemed. As much as it kills me though, I just can’t believe her…

However, that idiot later starts to research the matter and when he finally learns that Grace was telling the truth, he does some groveling and as Grace was always forgiving after a good apology, she forgives him once again.

I never would.

“Grace, I was wrong. I should have never pushed you away. …
I don’t deserve you. But, that doesn’t mean that I’m letting you go.”

Well, as I said many times, Grace deserved a much better man but the heart wants what it wants, yeah? So be it...

*********************************************

Writing:

The quality of writing is good.

I will be these trees. The trees still standing, tall and proud in the face of the most extreme weather. That’s what I will be. I can weather this storm; I can remain strong, rooted in place, refusing to fall. But, if I do fall, if the weight of the storm is too much for me, I will still be beautiful. I will still have value and worth.

Let me just remind once again that the writer needs to work on the male voice.

*********************************************

Safety:

No cheating. Slight OM drama.

Separation: A few weeks. No other people during that time.

*********************************************

Still, all in all, it was captivating enough to make me want to go on reading it so it is not that bad. Its biggest drawback is the whining hero. With a better man, the book would feel much much better!

The Bars Between Us is my first read by A.S. Teague, but I definitely want to read more books by her. This book is a great read with one big twist that I never expected! I loved the characters, the writing, the romance and the emotions.

Grace just graduated college and returns home to start her job. When she goes out to drink something at a bar, she meets the moody bartender Bronn. The next day, they see each other again and they have a great conversation. They like each other and plan to see each other again. They grow closer and fall in love, until one secret is revealed that can destroy everything between them.

My heart already broke for Grace in the prologue and that wasn’t the last time it happened. Grace and Bronn both have a terrible home situation that still affect their lives now. They find comfort, support and a listening ear with each other. Their relationship won’t always be easy, but it will all be worth it in the end. Grace doesn’t let Bronn go away a fight. I love them together. They are so good together. They both deserve to be happy.

Grace and Bronn are amazing characters! Grace is a smart, caring, nice and strong woman. She’s happy to be back in the town where she grew up. She’s looking forward to start her job as a nurse. It’s her dream and worked hard for it. Grace believes in Bronn and his dream. She supports him. She’s very determined to be with him and she falls hard for him.

Bronn is moody, but he can also be caring, sweet and loving. He never expected to fall in love and wasn’t really looking for love, but he can’t forget Grace after meeting her. He likes her and eventually trusts her. He likes to be with her. Bronn works hard at the bar to make it successful and hopes own it one day. He has a great relationship with his sister.

-- My honest review is based on an advanced reader copy of this book. --

I have no idea how to review this with spoiling it…plus, it’s always more difficult to review the books I like than the ones I don’t.

When I started it, I was impressed by how much I was liking it; it was pretty much a straightforward romance, with two normal people meeting each other and building a relationship.

This is pretty much the first half of the book - very little angst relationship-wise and 2 really good, interesting characters as MCs. Usually, that spells boring to me, but I guess the writing style and the characters drew me in and I couldn’t stop reading.

The heroine really won me over with this:

“You’ve obviously got issues of your own that you need to work on. Starting with the pity party you’re throwing yourself. You’re no better or worse than anyone else. Stop listening to what everyone has said about you and man up.

You have NO idea how long I’ve been waiting for a heroine to say this to a hero who’s all “you’re too good for me”. Just man the fuck up! And the fact that he did man up made me like the hero too.

They were both quite complex characters and I really enjoyed reading about their relationship. Now in the second half of the book, that’s where the angst comes in. I’m still not sure how much I enjoyed it, but I couldn’t stop reading and I was quite surprised with the twist - this doesn’t happen nearly as often as I’d like, so I loved being surprised here. I was a bit disappointed with some of the choices the MCs made, but I still enjoyed it.

I think that one of the main things I didn’t like about the book is that I didn’t really feel that much passion and attraction between them. Don’t get me wrong, they’re very into each other and I definitely believed in their love from early on, but for some reason, I didn’t really feel the passion one would expect with a new couple in love.

OW/OM: no ow/om. There’s barely any mention of heroes’ past, the most that was said was that it’s been a while since he’s been with a woman and at one point something about how there’s aren’t a lot of dating options because it’s such a small town. The heroine has a friend that’s really into her - the hero knows and gets jealous, and she does spend some time with the friend and knows he wants her, but she tells him repeatedly she doesn’t want him and nothing ever happens between them.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

That prologue. It pulls you in at the very first page. The descriptive writing will have your heart racing. The first chapter will have you invested. I was absolutely blown away.

Bronn Williams knows the minute he sees Grace Monroe she is not the kind of girl to look his way twice. Women like that don’t look at men like him. His past. His reputation. Everything about him is something she is not. He’s guarded but curious. He finds himself thinking about her. Soon enough, being with her allows him to breathe a bit easier. The weight he carries seems a bit lighter. Like fire, she ignites something inside of him. Maybe, just maybe he’s worthy of friendship. Maybe even more.

Their love is the one you don’t see coming, but feel all at once. Slowly, inevitably they fall. Its tumultuous yet fascinating. Alarming yet exhilarating. Bronn is hardened by his past. His circumstances. Yet Grace is able to chip away at his walls, one door at a time. Bronn loves without abandon. His entire soul. And every fear Grace has? Bronn easily chases them away with the ferocity of his love and adoration for her. But the connection? It’s earth shattering. It threatens their foundation in ways you cannot comprehend. The author is skillful as she meticulously untangles the truth. She pushes and challenges the reader to understand how a love like theirs can even survive such tragic happenstance. Your heart is pulled in every direction. You fall and love just as deeply as Bronn and Grace. You don’t read their love or their connection. You feel it. Soul deep and bewitching, their love story is not one to be missed.

Beautifully penned, this story was one that I could not put down. It’s written with such strong emotions that as a reader I found it easy to connect to the characters and their story. The author
effortlessly captures the discord between Bronn and Grace as the truth unravels while still allowing you to bask in their beauty of their relationship. Amongst love and hope and against fear and the unknown, these two face the impossible. Though emotional at times, this story also has its lighter moments. Fantastic dialogue and witty banter, this is easily a favorite read for me this year. The art of well developed characters is not lost with this author. Grace and Bronn are simply astounding. Emotionally complex, devastatingly beautiful, this story is simply unforgettable.

The Bars Between Us was absolutely fantastic. Emotionally charged with its lighter moments, it’s the perfect love story for lovers of romance. It’s a love story about two beautiful souls against unfathomable truths. Resounding and powerful, this story will stay with me for a long time to come. Well done, A.S. Teague! I cannot wait to see what’s next from this author.

"The Bars Between Us" was such a good book! Grace and Bronn go through a lot and always come out stronger. They have both lived through hard-ships in their lives and they both have delt with it differently. On the outside they are opposites but on the inside they are more alike then either of them think.

Grace lost here dad when she was Ten and her whole life changed forever. Her mother took her away from her home town and the one place she ever loved. Seventeen years later she comes back to the town where she feels at home. When she meets Bronn she isn't looking for anything but he intrigues her and makes her smile. She loves spending time with him and getting to know him. She can feel herself falling for him. No matter how many times he try to push her away she will not back down she will prove to him how amazing he truly is and that they belong together.

Bronn is the sexy brooding bartender. From the wrong side of the tracks Bronn thinks there is no way the beautiful rich girl would ever take notice of him. When she does he jumps on the chance to spend time with her.  No matter how much he falls for her and how much he sees that she isn't a stuck up rich girl he can't get over that fact that he thinks he's not good enough for her. It messes with their relationship.

This was such a wonderful read with a twist I didn't see coming! Sometimes I just wanted to hit Bronn on the head and tell him to stop being scared and just love her ugh men lol. This book was so great. It was really intense and I highly recommend it! I Loved Reading This Book!

4 ASTOUNDING STARS!

You know that feeling you get when you are handed a beautifully wrapped present on Christmas morning? You are filled with a mix of giddy excitement and nervous anticipation because you don't know what's inside but you can't wait to tear into it to find out what enticing wonders await? That's exactly how I feel every time I dive into a book by a new-to-me author. The thrill of the unknown and the hope that whatever’s contained within the pages will provide the ULTIMATE escape is truly intoxicating. Well, in the instance of THE BARS BETWEEN US by A.S. Teague, I got everything on my wish list and then some!

I just love, love, loved this FANFREAKINGTASTIC book—and this author's writing— so hard!!!!!’

This is an unforgettable story of opposites attracting, of fate and destiny colliding, and of miraculous second chances. The world literally fell away while I was reading. I was swept up into this poignant, tension fraught tale from the first line of the gutwrenching prologue to the last sigh-worthy moment in the epilogue.

Chapter one begins with sweet natured Grace Monroe returning to her hometown of Beaufort County looking for a fresh start and a chance to finally banish the ghosts she'd left behind seventeen years ago, but what she finds is moody broody bartender Bronnson Williams who turns her world asunder. Although she shares an immediate lightening attraction with the big, dark-haired, gorgeously tatted man, they get off on the wrong foot and she is as turned off by his surly attitude as he is by her uppity, rich girl vibe. The last thing either of them needs is the complication of a romance, yet these two are drawn together like a moth to a flame.

Bronn and Grace are not only bound together by a mutual lust and newfound friendship but by shared loss. Tragedy shattered both their lives at a young age and the crippling sadness that reflected in Bronn's intense blue eyes Grace carries in her own heart. Their love blossoms but when they discover a shocking link to both their pasts, will it permanently douses the red-hot flames flickering between them?

Omg! A.S. Teague sure knows how to yank the heartstrings!! This beautifully nuanced love story had me drowning in so many FEELS it should be a crime!! I had a constant ache in my chest and felt intensely for both these profoundly damaged characters. And the writing was OUTSTANDING! I was truly blown away by this author’s vibrant, engaging narrative, the palpable romantic tension, the heat, the passion….the heartbreak…the sheer scope of raw, complex emotion!!

I have always been drawn to storylines featuring broody bad boys from the wrong side of the tracks who fall in love with the privileged good girl. It’s a classic trope that NEVER gets old for me! And this sublimely talented author puts such a refreshingly unique spin on this timeless story line it left me enthralled! While on paper these polar opposites seemingly have little in common, as it turns out they are true kindred spirits.

There is an undercurrent of deep angst throughout and the book takes a decidedly somber turn in the second half as these two characters finally lay the ugly parts of themselves bare. But I never felt like the book was a downer…the bittersweet emotion is nicely offset by an abundance of warmth, hope, joy and tenderness.

As far as tortured heroes go, Bronn is the REAL DEAL! I mean the dude works at a dive bar and lives on a boat!! You can't get much more ruggedly male than that! He is a true paradox…charming and sweet and caring one moment—cold and moody and closed off the next. Born and bred in the seaside town of Beaumont, he has had a T.O.U.G.H. life that’s left him stewing in resentment, and his coping mechanisms pretty much suck! Not gonna sugarcoat it... There were some points in the story where I wanted to knock that enormous chip off his shoulder and scream at him to stop being such a stubborn ass, and other times he would do something so incredibly swoonworthy he had me melting into a puddle!! There are many layers to Bronn that made him utterly irresistible.

And beautiful, brave-hearted Grace, whose idyllic childhood was stolen in an instant when her beloved daddy died in front of her, is the perfect girl for our jaded hero. Her sweetness and sass beguiles Bronn and she stirs emotions in him that he has not felt in years. I really enjoyed the infectious chemistry between Bronn and Grace, and was also captivated by their witty camaraderie and self deprecating humor that saw them through some rough patches. I especially ADORED how she keeps Bronn on his toes and has no trouble calling him on his BS!

Grace is the anchor he needs to stay afloat and he is the second chance she never knew she wanted. Together they have a real shot at rising above their agonizing pasts but first they must weather many storms. Speaking of...brace yourself for a chilling plot twist that proves to be a TOTAL. GAME. CHANGER.

The only reason I am awarding this book four stars instead of five is because I thought the pacing in the second half dragged a bit. The romance lost a little momentum because it seemed to take a backseat to the family drama, and while I am all for emotional black moments, the fallout between the H&h was drawn out a bit too long for my taste which led to some frustration on my part. That quibble aside, I still enjoyed this book immensely!!

Ultimately, THE BARS BETWEEN US made me swoon, cry, rant, gave me tingly butterflies throughout, and delivered on a breathtaking HEA that was PURE BLOODY PERFECTION! And now that I have basked in the wonder of what the uber talented A.S. Teague has to offer, I eagerly anticipate unwrapping many more of her dazzling treasures!

***ARC provided by the author for an honest review***

Emotions run high in The Bars Between Us by A.S. Teague.

“The troubled look in his eyes reminding me that we all have our demons.”

Grace Monroe returns to her hometown as a traveling nurse. She meets Bronn Williams, the rude owner/bartender of the delightful little bar with the gorgeous view. After the sassiness and sizing each other up, both acknowledge the happiness they feel when they keep running into one another. Both have similar losses it seems and hopefulness seems a stretch to the imagination, but together they feel strong and build a desirable connection. Soon that strong connection grows into something more. Lust, love...perhaps? With all happiness, a sadness follows. Ugly truths show up to threaten what’s at stake, can their strong bond be enough to weather through?

This novel will knock you off your feet in more than a couple ways. The prologue alone will have you immersed in no time! Feisty and sassy but with a heart of gold is Grace Monroe. She is the heroine of this sweet romance who I fell in love with. She is not afraid to speak her mind especially not to Bronn! Standing up to a man is no easy task so I am grateful that Teague wrote a heroine who was strong and determined. Bronn is the hero in which your heart will just melt and break for. So many dark shadows, plus a hard upbringing, he can’t seem to let happiness in, until Grace appears.

There is a reason why this book has been the talk of the town. See for yourself!

A.S Teague continues to be an author that completely blows me away with her writing talent and storytelling ability. The ways that she brings her stories, her characters, and the worlds she so authentically creates to life is phenomenal in every way. I have LOVED each and every one of her stories to pieces, and I have loved getting to know and fall in love with the unforgettable and dynamic characters she creates. She has solidified herself as one of my favorite authors, and what she gave me in The Bars Between Us proved that to me again and again.

This book completely took ahold of me from the very first page, and it did not let me go all the way through. It made me smile, it made me feel it all with these characters, and it made me fall so fiercely in love with them as they saw what could be between them. This story had it all.

The Bars Between Us is a love story that packs the perfect level of emotion and heart, connection and fire, past and present, pain and healing, and two characters fighting to find themselves, their hearts, and the glorious possibilities of what could be.

What you get with Bronn and Grace in this book will just amaze you, and will simultaneously make you fall completely in love with them and all that they share. Those two will take ahold of your heart from the very first page, and your love and feelings for them will continue to grow through every turn of that page. This book will show you them at their highest, their lowest, and every valley of emotion in between, and that is just part of what makes this book so exceptional.

A.S. Teague has completely outdone herself with this book, and I truly can’t say that enough.

From the very start of this book, A.S. Teague brings out the past and present of these characters in the most phenomenal, intense, and memorable way. From the gripping and emotional prologue, to the chapters that follow, through everything you get with Bronn and Grace, that past and present are there, coming together and pushing and pulling against each other in a way that gives you it all. Throughout this story she continues to build on that past and that present in a way that pulls you into everything more, in a way that shows how that past builds to everything in the present, and in a way that grows that tension and intensity in the most tangible of ways. It’s that push and pull between the pasts and presents of Bronn and Grace that give you so much with these characters, that allows you to understand these characters on the deepest of levels, and that will have you beyond ready to see how this story comes together for them. Getting to see and exepreince these characters, their pasts and their presents, and everything in between is something I will truly never forget.

Bronn is a character that is rough around the edges, with a hardened heart and exterior, and he is not afraid to admit that. You see that man has been through a world of hurt and pain in his life, he’s been told he’s a certain kind of person with a certain trajectory in life, and that has lead him to believing he knows the kind of person he really is….but all of that starts to change when a southern girl with a heart of gold and some fire comes into his bar. What I loved about Bronn was that he truly wanted to prove that he wasn’t the kind of guy that everyone made him out to be. He wasn’t perfect, but he was real, and that man completely stole my heart in this book with his determination and tenacity. Sure he had his moments when the past and the present became too much, and when those rough edges reared their sharp points, but through it all that man kept trying, kept fighting, and kept trying to find who he really was and who he wanted to be. I am telling you, there is no way you can resist that man and his story. He will own your heart, and you will love every second of it.

Grace was a character that I felt for from the very start of this book. That girl has a heart of gold and has been through a world of hurt and tragedy herself, and she is just trying to find her place in this world where she can be happy and where she can find herself. That search brings her back to Beaufort, South Carolina, a place that feels like home, and a place that brings her face to face with Bronn, a man who she can’t help but connect with even though he puts on that strong front. What I loved about Grace was how strong she was and how she had a bit of fire to her that was just waiting to come out. This book and its events push Grace to her limits, yet that girl faces it all head on, with her heart on her sleeve, ready to do what’s right and ready to do what it takes to get to the place she wants to be. I loved Grace with my whole heart, and getting to be with that girl as she journeyed through this story, as she fought to stand on her own two feet, to find herself and who she wanted to be, and to fight for the feelings she knew were there was everything. It was real, it was her, and it was truly unforgettable.

From the very first moment they meet, Bronn and Grace share a connection that just won’t quit. Even when those two butt heads from time to time, even with his rough shell and her fears and worries, that connection is there between them, building and simmering and growing. Throughout this book that connection continues to build and build between Bronn and Grace, and what starts off as something easy, soon becomes something very real that scares the hell out of those two. Both Bronn and Grace have never felt the things that they do when they’re together, and boy does that scare them to their bones in so many ways, but in the same breath it gives them it all. It gives them that hope for more, that tenacity and fight to keep going when things get tough because of what they share and what could be, and it gives them the world of feeling they share for one another. Through it all that connection is there firing off like crazy, pulling them together like two magnets that can’t help but be brought back together again and again. Getting to experience that through this book is the absolute best, and will have you rooting like hell for these two that they find a way to make it all work.

One of the best aspects of this story was the varied and phenomenally captured emotion that wove its way through this book. I literally cannot say enough good things about how A.S. Teague brought that emotion to life. She made that emotion real, and tangible, and so all-feeling through every page in a way that connected me with these characters on the deepest of levels. She not only let me get and understand these characters, she let me feel with them, and be with them through it all as this story progressed. It was that connection and level of unforgettable emotion that made this book the spectacular thing that it is. That glorious emotion, how real and well captured it is, deepens everything you get with these characters and this story in the most phenomenal way. It amplifies everything Bronn and Grace share, it amplifies their pasts and presents, and it heightens everything happening between them because of that amazing emotion and what it gives you. Simply put, the level of emotion A.S. Teague creates in this book is everything, and it makes this story.

Both Bronn and Grace are looking for more in this book. They’re looking for more for themselves, more for what they want for their lives, and more understanding of what got them to the places they are. I loved getting to experience that want for more with those two. I loved feeling that fire with them, that driving force that exuded out of them both through so much of this book, and I loved getting to be there with them as they both fought for that more. That want for more pulls these two together something fierce, exudes how genuine and real they are, how easy to love and root for they are, and it makes them two characters with some serious heart and fire. Both Bronn and Grace’s journeys in this book are defined in many ways, and it is that want for more that pulls them together, and that gives you so much with them both as they go about trying to find that more they both so truly deserve.

Let me tell you now that you will be blown away by this story. You will be blown away by what A.S. Teague so thoughtfully crafts through every page. You will be blown away by what you get with Bronn and Grace through every word of this unforgettable story. You will be blown away by what they share, how real it is, how deep it all goes, and what it brings out in them both. And in the end you will be blown away by how it all comes together and what that leads these characters to sharing.

You. Will. Be. Blown. Away. And you will LOVE every second of that.

The Bars Between Us is a story about what happens when you try to find yourself, when you find what it is you want and need, and when find that one person who might just give you what you never knew you needed. This book is an all-feeling, emotional, and wholly consuming in a way that will connect you to these characters and their journeys on the deepest of levels, and that will have you with them in the thick of it through it all as they try to see what could be between them.

Bronn and Grace’s story is real, intense, full of meaningful and unforgettable emotion, and in the end it is a story of breaking through the pain and hurt of the past, to get to the present and future you want, you need, and that you completely deserve.

The Bars Between Us is one of my favorite reads of the year, and I can’t recommend it enough. It is so beyond phenomenal, and I truly can’t say enough good things about it and what I got with its characters and their story. It is a book you need in your life, and it is a book that will wow you and blow you away through every word, and that is just part of what makes it so completely incredible

4 SMOOCHES!

This is my fourth time reading A.S. Teague. I absolutely loved her Undisputed series, a fighter series. The Bars Between Us is a standalone. Having read all of A.S. Teague’s books up to this point, I can honestly say that this talented author has a knack for stringing together beautiful, meaningful words. Her stories never fail to deliver a solid blow to the feels, they’re sexy, and they’re hard-won happily-ever-afters. The Bars Between Us was no different.

A fantastic example of not judging a book by its cover, The Bars Between Us is the story of two seemingly different people who took a chance and looked beyond the surface, and in doing so, found more than either of them bargained for in the other person. Bonding over a shared history of loss, grief, pain and abuse, Grace and Bronn connected instantly. The chemistry between them sizzled from their encounter, but even more than that, they found a kindred spirit in each other that both characters recognized almost immediately.

I did, however, have a few issues with this book that affected my overall reading experience, which is why I’m giving it four smooches instead of five. I’m a very dialogue and interaction centric reader. I found that there was a great deal of internal dialogue, bordering on too much, and as a result, I found myself longing for more interaction between the characters. There were scenes where the characters were in the same room, but the reader was in the head of one of the characters instead of experiencing some sort of communication between the two of them. There were several points throughout this story where the internal, single-character reflections went on a bit too long for my taste, and I found that those parts didn’t hold my attention and left me fighting the urge to skim over them. It did get to be a bit frustrating for me after a while, but thankfully, those passages were followed up by fantastic scenes (that more than made up for the previous scenes’ frustration!) between the characters that definitely got – and held – my attention. The bottom line is that I wanted more of Grace AND Bronn together, and less of Grace OR Bronn individually.

Ultimately, though, despite those issues – which, again, were a matter of my personal taste – I found The Bars Between Us to be a poignant and beautiful love story, full of passion and healing and hope. It was richly developed, and readers will find a gorgeous and very sexy love story within these pages. A.S. Teague’s The Bars Between Us gets four smooches from me.

I absolutely love A.S. Teague and her books and they keep getting better and better. Her first book was above par and I didn't know how she was going to top it but she did and she keeps doing it!! This book absolutely took my breath away it was so beautifully written. The prologue had me in tears and I had to put my kindle down just to wipe my eyes so I could see to keep reading. I don't think that's ever happened to me in the first chapter of a book before, now don't get me wrong the chapter was beautiful and sad all at the same time. Then when we see Grace again she's an adult and she's heading back to where she's originally from. There she meets Bronn and even though she almost kills him they have this connection that neither one of them have ever felt before. There chemistry is so strong you can almost feel it jumping through your kindle. Neither one of them have been truly happy in a long time but together they are. And slowly they let each other in and as they are letting each other in we are learning about what they have been through, what they had to tolerate growing up and how similar their losses are. And the more they are learning each other they are healing together. But when other secrets come out will it destroy what they have built or will there Love withstand every thing that comes to light? This has been one of the most emotional books I have read this year. It took me through every emotion I have plus some I didn't know I had..lol I was so invested in this book I read it in one day and it's not a short book. But I just couldn't put it down I just had to know what was happening. This will be one of my top reads of 2017!!! That's how much I loved it!! I highly recommend this book!! - By Tina

I've enjoyed previous books by A.S. Teague, so I was excited about this one when I first read the synopsis, it sounded like something straight up my alley, I wasn't wrong.

Grace hasn't had it easy, she's got a painful past and a lot going on in her mind. But she's freshly graduated and home to start her new job and get on with the rest of her life. She's strong, smart, and real.

Bronn's got his own struggles. He's a hard guy to get a read on, but deep down I knew instinctively he was inherently good and I'd fall for him.

When Grace meets Bronn for the first time in the bar - they don't exactly hit it off. But their second meeting goes quite a bit better and they start getting to know each other. As they form bonds and grow close, love blooms, but there are secrets from the past lurking, and as they are prone to do, when they come out they send everything spinning. Can these two find their way through it together? Or is their love doomed?

The Bars Between Us will tug on your emotions, it will drag you deep into the story, hurting for the characters, but also falling in love with them and rooting for a happy ending. You'll find yourself suprised by twists and turns, while also expecting some things. And you'll see the closeness between not only Grace and Bronn but others around them. This story delivers the truth that sometimes you can't escape your past - but you don't have to let it define you either.

I really enjoyed the two previous books by A.S. Teague that I had read so I was more than excited to start The Bars Between Us. Sadly though I didn’t enjoy this one near as much as I have the previous books.

From the start I was drawn into the story but ever slow slowly I was becoming bored or annoyed with Grace over how she would get at times. I am going to try to not give spoilers away so to explain why she got on my nerves is actually hard to do so I will leave it as read the book to see if she does the same to you. I found Grace to be weak, she had the potential to be this strong character but she just for me at least never achieved her inner strength. I loved Bronn and I totally understand why he would react the way he did. Did he have a temper? Yes he did, did that temper at times cause him to be stubborn, you’re damn right it did, but I don’t know if it had been me if I would have reacted any other way.

The Bars Between Us may not have been one that I loved as much as this author’s previous books but I still in the end did enjoy the story overall. I will still read A.S. Teague in the future and am looking forward to reading what she puts out next.

"The Bars Between Us" - means to me, what may keep us apart.
Grace Monroe has come back to her roots where she meets the rough around the edges Bronn Williams. Bronn and Grace have been dealt different hands in life. They both have tragedy that gives them a common bond.
Bronn has a reputation that makes him a disappointment and no good to most but then Grace happens and Bronn wants to be more than he is and prove to her that he isn't what his past makes him out to be. Grace walks into a bar in her designer clothes and bitchy attitude and doesn't give Bronn any other impression of being high society. Then one day Grace almost runs over Bronn and that's when each of them connect in a new perspective, what you see on the outside isn't what is on the inside. But will Bronn be able to see what Grace sees in him while exploring this connection they have? Everything is going great between Bronn and Grace but now the past is going to come to light, can Bronn see past the bars that will separate him from Grace or let them keep them apart? Did I mention they can both be stubborn....
Take the journey with Bronn and Grace to see what the past throws their way and if they can overcome it. This is a standalone book, so no cliffhanger. You will cry and laugh with these two.
A.S has done a wonderful job of bringing Bronn and Grace to life. Her writing gives you both views to see inside the other and understand the conflict each is feeling when the past comes a knocking. A must read about two different people that come from the same kind of background with a twist.

Amazing Read!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed that the story was told from dual POV.
The prologue was amazing and invoked so many emotions. There was good dialogue and I felt that the relationship organically grew. There were a few times that there was a lot of narrative or internal dialogue which slowed the pace of the story. I would have also liked when both characters were together they spoke to each other more instead of being in their head. The plot twist was gripping and I enjoyed how there was character development between both individuals from beginning to the end. This was my first read from A.S, but won't be my last!

The Bars Between Us by A.S. Teague is a stand-alone romance novel, that blow me away.
Meet Grace Monroe, she´s back in her small hometown.
The first citicen she meets is a rude but gorgeous bartender . Bronn Williams is a good guy with issues.
Both date, but ugly truths and secrets threaten to kill their love.
The Bars Between Us is a emotional read, I recommend to read with tissues at hand. The story is full of twists and unexpected turns.
And I loved it. I loved the words, the writing and the beautiful HEA.
I recommend The Bars Between Us and give 5 Stars. Thank you A.S. Teague .

I have loved AS Teague's writing since her first book and this book blew me away. I loved Bronn and Grace and their story was amazing. They have both been through such tragedy and their relationship is not easy at all, but I loved seeing them fight for what they want and this book could not have had a better ending!

My, oh my! I absolutely loved this book and I feel like I have said that with all of A.S. Teague's books but they are that good - no great!

Bronn and Grace have both been through so much in their lives - more than we even knew at the start of the book - and I was rooting for them the whole time. I loved their banter that they had immediately and then that connection that they just couldn't ignore. I don't want to go into much because no need for spoilers but just know that you'll be dying to get to the end to see what happens. I couldn't put it down and was still up at 2 a.m. this morning reading it!

What a great book! Now I'm ready for A.S. Teague's next book because now I've read all of her books and I loved them all.

The Bars Between Us is the first book I have read by A.S. Teague. I was very excited to read this book. The blurb had me instantly intriqued...The bad boy and the good girl -- what could they possibly have in common? And what the heck does the Bars Between Us even mean? I found out after reading the story, and honestly, it really was a brilliant way to tie together the title and story.

I love romance, and can't deny that as the good girl myself, I've always had a bit of a thing for the bad boys...who doesn't to some degree? So I did go into the book with fairly high expectations, regardless of the fact that I haven't read the author. I don't really feel like A.S. Teague let down her audience and really stuggled with my rating of this book. Maybe I built up my excitement a bit too much when I got the opportunity to finally read this book. What I found was the book was full of contradictions. Grace, the heroine, was sassy and spunky one minute then meek and demure the next. She was exceptionally beautiful in the high class, rich girl sorta way and she literally blew hot and cold so fast that I couldn't keep up with her...let alone Bronnson, the hero. Additionally, I felt like she was almost a pushover...she was too forgiving with Bronn. Every time he hurt her, she just sort of glossed over her own feelings like it was no big deal. I also found her annoying a good deal of the time. These things made me struggle with my ability to connect with her.

I continued to struggle with my connection to the character of Bronn. The town bad boy with a heart of gold? (Well, sort of anyway.) Bronn has been wronged, A LOT, in life...again and again. So the broken, bad boy hates the town that he lives in. Ok, I could see that. Bronn's relationship with his sister seems to be contentious at times, and while I wouldn't say he hates her for any reason, he seems very...VERY...angry with her. And realistically, I felt that as an adult he should see all his anger was misplaced. I mean she was only a child as well. I don't understand how that much anger could allow them to form any sort of relationship at all, let alone the one that A.S. Teague depicts for her readers. He definitely has anger issues and A LOT of issues surrounding his self-worth. As a matter of fact, the later are basically the root of every conflict between Bronn and Grace. With all of the back and forth in his mind about his self-worth, I practically got whiplash.

I've made the book sound horrible by explaining in such depth why I didn't connect with the characters. Realistically, there is far more I liked about the book then that I didn't like. The writing was well done. I didn't find spelling/grammatical/syntax errors. A well written book is sometimes rare and it's very important to me since I am a editor and blogger. Also important to note, Grace and Bronn had a beautiful story - regardless of my inability to connect with them. The author went to great length to make them have a depth that I did appreciate.

For example, at one point Grace is peeved at Bronn and she holds nothing back - calling him under the carpet for holding her upbringing against her when she had no control over it and would have, in fact, given everything to go back and change the hands of time. This scene is a key reason for my struggle with my rating...I wanted to see that this scene would completely rewrite the rest of the story for me. That from there on out, the book would be amazing. Obviously A.S. Teague is talented, she can write depth and layers that I was not expecting at that point. So, I felt like she deserved a 4 star review for that alone.

Also, the cover is Gorgeous! I mean truly eye-catching. But all things consider, a cover is only the marketing that an author uses to draw the reader in. The story is what's the most important, and since I had a harder time with the characters, I couldn't say that I loved the story...I liked it sure, but I didn't love it. I plan to read more by the A.S. Teague in the future. Every author has good and bad books that they release, and I am intrigued enough with the story and the quality of her work to want to give her another chance at redemption.
