When a zombie virus sweeps the planet and puts humanity in a chokehold, hope is the only thing keeping Sara alive. Hope that the people who matter most are still alive. Who made it? Who didn't? Can they be saved? Can they save her?
Sara has made a list of her loved ones... what became of them is unknown to her. One by one, she will discover their fates, as she works her way through... THE LIST.
Finally an apocalypse book from a woman survivor point of view . Let me introduce you to Sara she has survived the death of her family and is trying to find out who is still alive that she cares about . The list is her way of coping and getting to the people she loves . This was a nice refreshing switch up to the zombie story . The lead character Sara is a woman who is overcoming everything . What would you do if you lost everything including your family . Would you fight or would you end it all . Sara has that decision to make, you see her as a strong character that is basically at her wits end but she is stronger then she thinks she is. You see her go through hell with her family and then trying to get to the people on her list . She meets groups of people as she travels . All trying to survive and doing what they can to stay safe. She really grows through out the book and becomes more self reliant and stronger . The author takes us on a rollercoaster ride with this book . In some ways it is very relatable what the main character is going through. You can actually picture yourself going through everything Sara is going through. You want to hug her and tell her everything will be alright but then you start cheering for her as she becomes a kick ass survivor . You want to pray that all the people on her list is alive just so they can bring a bit of happiness to Sara. This was a fast read for me I started in the evening and finished the next day . I just couldn't put it down . I wanted to see if Sara and goose would get to where they are going. The only draw back I had was that the ending was abrupt, I wanted to know if she got to where they were going and if her friend would survive . That is the reason I took off half a star in my rating . Over all the book was fantastic and I can't wait to read more from this author . So if you want a apocalypse book with a strong female lead check out THE LIST by Shannon walters
The world is unraveling on every level as a virus obliterates humanity. The dead reanimate and they are not interested in a "friendly" reunion with the living. Sara, a lone survivor, has to decide whether life is worth continuining after the virus destroys her life as she's known it. She discovers hope in a feisty canine companion, Goose, and goes on an apocalyptic odyssey to locate loved ones on her list, whether living or undead, she's determined to discover their whereabouts. Along the way, she discovers more about her personal strengths and unburies a determined will to survive.
I'm an avid reader of apocalyptic fiction and read my fair share of zombie fiction. The List has all of the zombie apocalyptic feels- (1) physical and emotional decimation of the world and the protagonist (2) reanimation of the dead, yes, but also a reanimation in the form of an awakening or transformation of the protagonist (3) determination and a will to survive despite heavy loss and extreme duress. Here's what else it has...some serious apocalyptic fun and by fun, I mean some serious girl time at the mall. Who doesn't want to run amok and "shop" until you drop? I seriously laughed so hard while secretly wishing I could be party to the fun (minus the zombies). Now here's my final thought, when does book 2 release because I have all kinds of scenarios running through my head and I have a plan for Sara that may or may not involve some hot national guard guy, just sayin'? Please don't break my heart Shannon Walters and hurry up and write already!
I flew through this book. I really felt for the lead character Sara...the pain of losing so many people still didn't stop her determination to keep going...looking forward to the next book!
Shannon Walters has hit a home run with this book and if you read it I believe you will feel the same. As Sara thinks that her husband has just caught the flu, she finds its something much more sinister and she starts to lose those around her that mean the most, she does the only thing she can think of, make a list to see who's made it past this deadly virus, that doesn't seem to have any end in sight. One by one she crosses off or puts down the names with a mark through them if gone from this world or hopefully someone she can leave the name open for friends, aquantances even family, but many names she adds come at a price. One super good book and one I recommend to everyone to read, as you won't be disappointed. Loved this book.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice change from other zombie books as this one was about a woman. Her journey through the apocalypse looking for her loved ones while simultaneously finding herself made a great story.
Ok. I loved this story. I will admit I teared up more than once. Which is not the norm for the zombie genre. Shannon made you feel the characters truly. I was there with Sara going through all her pain, anger, and regrets. So I loved this book but I know it will be a little bit before we get book 2. 😳
I enjoyed reading Sara's story. She wasn't your typical strong willed heroine turned commando that you read about in many zombie books but she was strong none the less. My favorite part was Goose to be honest. Solid story and tons of action.
Zombies, of course. Sarah, our main character & heroine isn't sure what's going on. Is her husband Ron fighting with the neighbors again? And why does Terry look so strange? It takes her a while before she understands what is happening. And with that realization comes horror for the destruction of her family. Sarah is distraught. She has no one. She makes a list of people she does know and swears to find them. She is consoled with her neighbors tiny dog, Goose. Sarah is really a good character. She is emotional and is a much stronger person than she thinks she is. Thanks to the author for some incredible reading.😉
Imagine being the mother of two preschool girls and wife of a man whose only concern is himself. Then one day a flu virus starts and the Dead rise. This is Sara. A stay at home mom whose life as she knows it is destroyed. Follow her journey to find the people who matter to her. You are immediately drawn to the characters. They are people you know. People you would be friends with. It is such a good book. I was unable to put it down. Read it in one day!
What if the zombie apocalypse really happened? What would you do and how would you survive without knowing what had happened to your family and friends? Sara makes her list of people who mean the most to her and heads out to find out how they fared during this terror filled time. This character driven story will put you through an emotional wringer many times as the list gets shorter and shorter. I won't say anymore because you really have to read this horrific tale of suffering, loss and hope while traveling through hordes of zombies. A must read for anyone who loves the horror/zombie genre.
This story had me sucked in from the get go! Fantastic dialogue, tight characters and a non stop thrill ride story! Will certainly be reading more from Ms Walters! Great job!
I was hooked on this story from the beginning. A bit of a different take on the usual zombie fair, it still has enough scares to keep readers on the edge of their seats. This tale is sure to take the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride. The characters are engaging and completely believable given their situation. Don't miss out on this one.
This was an awesome story Sara's journey through a Zombie Apocalypse. I cannot imagine her continuous love and loss how much she endured and still found the strength to keep moving on, have to admit I got choked up a couple times. What I loved the most was Goose how the 2 became inseparable which I truly believe is what gave her the will to stay alive while checking off her list!
A surprise! I read a lot of the zombie genre books and have of lately found them to follow the same outline. Although some are very good, others are like reading the same book different author over and over. This book changed that. Well written, great storyline, had my zombies but also a different survival story. Loved it. Would have given 5 stars but the ending was abrupt. Can't go wrong on this book.
The List by Shannon Walters. I bought this paperback book for Scares That Care charity Weekend event from the Publisher's table. If you didn't know any better you wouldn't believe this was Shannon's debut novel. It was well written with interesting characters and a richly developed and believable plot. I enjoyed Sara's journey. Heather is funny and goose is a great name for Sara's sidekick. Perhaps the next book will expand on Jonathan's group. Honestly if I had to make a list there would be three names on it. My daughter, my sister & brother. Four names if my Hubby wasn't with me when the world ended. This was a fast and enjoyable read.
What a wonderful change. This story deals with the apocalypse from the viewpoint of a young mother. Without giving away the story, all is not well, she's not miraculously transformed into a weapons expert or survivalist like so many. She's a mum, and she fights her way, rather clumsily at times, through her List! A seriously well written, well paced and genuinely heartening story. A great introduction to the apocalyptic genre, or a breath of fresh air if you read them regularly. Rarely do I read a book where I am scrounging around for the authors other work. A few short stories later, I'm definitely a fangirl.
A decent zombie book, but not very memorable. It's strange that the zombies can completely ignore the characters when it's time for some good old fashioned dystopian conversation, yet other times they push past barriers when people are asleep or not making any noise at all. Oh, and the men in this book are kind of wusses (except the soldiers, though they are just a slight byline). It's the women who are strong and kick butt, and that's exactly how it would occur--not the screaming shrinking weaklings of days past. So this is an OK zombie book with strong women.
Good read to start when you have enough time to read from start to finish. Nice flow without to much violence. The heroine after losing all her family goes on a searching quest to find her last family member. During this time she keeps a list of people she meets, and crosses off some that are dead. With only a couple left she struggles with why she was left to live, and so many have not. One part where I was not happy was Sara's thoughts on Michele's loss of a young student.
This is the story of Sarah and a dog named Goose. Sarah and Goose survive the Zombie Apocalypse and Sarah writes a list of everyone who meant something to her. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone. I am looking forward to reading more from Shannon Walters!
A Great Zombie story that involves a housewife and mother when unbeknownst to her a virus is sweeping the planet . I had my moments where I was silently say to myself o god hurry up .. or o no .. Definitely had me turning pages and needing to know the ending for the main character Sara...
While not the best zombie book I’ve ever read, it wasn’t the worst by a long shot. It certainly had its moments and one can easily forgive the recourse to a few overused staples of the genre. Definitely worth a read on a rainy Sunday.
I enjoyed this book .But when it just ended I was really disappointed.I was hoping for a continuation and see what Sara life would be like .So many other authors do this have 3 or 4 sequels.Maybe Ms Walter will continue and let us see how thing went.
Hopefully the start of a great new series. I loved her take on the apocalypse immediately. Totally endearing characters. Really hoping for this to become a series.
Different type of Zom story. I liked it. There was lots of emotion and action in this one. Emotional attachment to the characters was there. All in all a good read
Walters brings a new, unique, and very welcome point of view to the apocalypse. Many small details bring the end of the world into focus and makes it feel much more personal. Well done.
