Caleb Davenport has spent the last decade building an international company into a billion-dollar enterprise with his business partners. Traveling constantly around the world, he’s lonely and ready to settle down with the woman of his dreams.

When feelings erupt between her and Caleb at their high school reunion, she starts to hope that maybe she can dream again. But Caleb is keeping a secret that could ruin everything.

Does Caleb have a chance to win Kira’s heart—or will his family's secret past prevent him from capturing the girl who got away?

Kimberley Montpetit once spent all her souvenir money at the La Patisserie shops when she was in Paris—on the arm of her adorable husband. The author grew up in San Francisco, another swoon-worthy city, loves all things Parisian and chocolate and lives in a small town along the Rio Grande with her family.

Kimberley has won many awards for her work, including the Southwest Book Award, the Whitney Award, the Arizona/New Mexico Book Award, is a Crystal Kite Finalist (SCBWI) and included in the Bank Street College Best Books of the Year.

She once stayed in a haunted castle tower room at Borthwick Castle in Scotland, sailed on the Seine in Paris, walked the beaches of Normandy, eaten in numerous French cafes, ridden a camel in Petra, Jordan, sunbathed on Waikiki, shopped the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, and spent the night in an old Communist hotel in Bulgaria.

She adores all baked goodies; brownies, éclairs, donuts, tarts, and pie, and makes a lot of chocolate chip cookies while revising.

Kimberley is, of course, hard at work on her next novel(s).

Listened to the audiobook - June 17-June 18, 2020
I really enjoyed the narrator. She did a great job pulling me into the story. I really liked the way she added inflections into her narration of the story.

What would you give to have a second chance to find that one person you've always loved? What if you had a secret that you were afraid would ruin that second chance if you were ever to find it? As more time passes, is it worth holding onto that dream or should you just let it go? Even with the secret that must be shared? Is a chance at finding your true love worth all the sacrifices?

I loved this story of a second chance romance. Although technically it could be considered a first chance. Did I confuse you there? Caleb has loved Kira since high school. Yet she didn't really know who he was. Years later Caleb is hoping to have a chance at finding Kira, fixing a mistake and finding his happily ever after!

I loved these two characters. Especially Caleb. Talk about a good swoon worthy Hero! If you like sweet clean romance, a little mystery, fun humor, emotions and struggles, character growth, then I highly recommend this book. I've enjoyed the books in this Secret Billionaire series. This is actually my second read through of the Executive's Secret as I helped do editing for the author on it. I loved the story then and I loved rereading the final outcome again. Definitely a book that I will be rereading and recommending to friends.

Kira's life has some major struggles in it, which have caused her to set aside her plans for her future and dreams but little does she know that she's about to have some great surprises coming her way. Life may not always turn out as planned but how we handle the ups and downs and go with the flow of our ever changing lives will bring unexpected joys and blessings that we could have missed if we stuck with our plan.

I loved the music aspects of this story. It was so fun to read about Kira and her piano playing. I'm a pianist and went through the whole auditioning for colleges' music programs. Oh the stress, the emotions, the frustration, the exhaustion, the love of music and playing...and so much more. I connected with this story even more due to that because it is something dear to my heart.

Lots of fun and sweet moments, some upsets, some struggles, family ups and downs, lost things found, friendship and sweet, sweet love.

Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses.

I snagged a copy from Amazon. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

The older I get, the more those rose-colored glasses come on when I think back to my high school days. Caleb had a big crush on Kira back then, but as a shy, somewhat rebellious nerd, he didn't stand a chance, but she's definitely the one that got away. A chance meeting just before their ten year high school reunion and a very successful start up business gives him the courage to take that second chance.

I don't know if I could be brave enough to take that second shot like Caleb does. He is definitely persistent and I love a man who knows what he wants and will do what it takes to chase after her. His patience (with a few slip ups full of chemistry) is swoon-worthy and he's a sweetheart, especially for having all that money. I tend to revert back to my shy and insecure ways when I'm around high school classmates, but this guy is stronger than me.

Kira is one of the most selfless women ever and she's still as sweet as she's always been, but a little clueless. She has reasons to be a little gun-shy with a new relationship, but I almost felt she took her reaction to his honesty and apology a little too far.

I love a fun, clean, entertaining romance and I had a hard time putting this one down. Even though I didn't always agree with Kira's reactions, I found their interactions to be sweet and the plot to be creative and fun.

Content: mild romance (kissing).

DNF at 5%

Some clumsy sentence construction that gave the impression of rushed writing and a lack of editing.

Despite the pain those visits brought.

While Caleb was the geek of the school - a geek to the max.

And avoid liver damage like his father was now suffering with.

The 54 was quieter than most upscale Denver hang-outs, and having a membership here was an oxymoron - at least for him.

Why is it an oxymoron??? (an oxymoron is a combination of contradictory or incongruous words eg: cruel kindness)

At one point we are told that Caleb doesn't drink alcohol because he had grown up with alcoholic parents (plural) and yet, when he was admitted to hospital after a teenage binge-drinking session, his mother said to him: "Isn't it bad enough that your father does this?" But SHE drinks as well!!!

I did not like the way the author thought it necessary to detail a waitress: a thin woman of about thirty-five wearing black slacks, a black blouse and thick black eyeliner. This was not from Caleb's pov - it was a mere 'aside' added by the author with no purpose or reason other than to give a rather derogatory comment on a nameless woman and it jarred, badly. Was I going to have to read descriptions of every nameless 2-bit character who appears in the book - the woman in the corner drinking her coffee perhaps, or the woman getting out of a car across the road? It had a touch of unpleasantness about it as if there was something pathetic about being a thin women aged 35 and wearing black.

This was a sweet second-chance love story about a girl who had it all in high school and then sacrificed everything for her parents, and the boy who had nothing in high school but is now a billionaire- but his crush on her hasn't changed. A way to pass the time, but I liked the first book more.

Caleb Davenport was the high school bad boy who became a computer programing genius. He has spent the last ten years growing a successful international business. Kira Bancroft was the high school good girl who had dreams of becoming a concert pianist to wound up working in a local Denver restaurant. Caleb never forgot about Kira and Kira does not remember him. After reuniting after ten years, sparks begin to fly; however, Caleb has a secret about his past that could ruin everything. Will Kira be able to look past Caleb’s past to give them a future?

I found this story to be so fun and light. I love Kira. As a musician myself, I felt so sad for her loss at her musical dreams but admired her for her sacrifice in helping her parents. Caleb is a heartthrob. He is a man that has been through so much but has risen to the top.

I loved this book! I could not put it down and found myself cheering them on. A sweet clean romance about second chances.

*Please note I purchased a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this book, it didn't seem to be one of those cheesy romances, you know the kind. I thought the whole thing was really well written and just amazing! It was the perfect way to spend an afternoon.

I loved Kira. I thought she was such a strong young woman. I felt a bit sad that she had given up her dreams to care for her family after her father's accident. But also a little amazed by her unselfishness and caring for her parents in that way. I liked that no matter what happened to her, Kira was unwilling to let it knock her down for long. She is resilliant!

I also liked Caleb. I liked that he is a good guy. He goes out of his way to make sure Kira has some happy things happen to her in this story. I liked that he was honest with her, even though he knew his honesty would hurt her. I liked that Kira was able to forgive him and give him a chance, even when he thought he would have hurt her way too badly.

I loved the love story in this one. The whole thing was fun and swoon worthy, well after realizing that Kira liked him too much to kick him to the curb when he hurt her.

I liked everything about this one! Make sure to grab your own copy, you won't be sad that you did!

This is a sweet story. I like second chance romances and this one was cute. It was really like a second chance at the first time. Caleb hadn't made a move when they were in high school and she didn't know him. I didn't like that he kept something, but I did like that since he had done so, he kept it close. I liked how when she waited on the five men at Rossi's, she didn't know or remember them, but she was very kind in letting them know the truth. I liked Caleb's reason for not drinking again after that party his senior year. He seemed like a nice man. He had a tough row to hoe in his teens, but he got through it. Kira didn't just take him for a ride as soon as she found out about his money. She was still cautious and not greedy.

-"...Even though you were my dream, you’re more than I ever dreamed you would be.”-

This is a sweet, clean romance. It is a stand-alone novel. I did not notice any grammatical errors. It is well-written.

Both characters in this story have faced trials and devastation in their family life. She struggles to make ends meet. He is a billionaire. She is his whole life. She doesn't remember him at all. He would do anything for her. She is furious with him. Will they be able to put their differences aside and find common ground -and love?

I liked this book! I loved the second chance story! There were, however a few things I didn't love. Caleb seemedto be way aggressive with the relationship, and Kira was way standoffish, but they did work it out eventually, which is good! In the beginning of the story her favorite snack with Diet Coke and Doritos, at the end it turned into Dr Pepper and Cheetos. Wondering if that was supposed to happen? I did enjoy reading it, and will read other books by this author.

Heartfelt

This is another beautiful story in this series. Caleb came from the worse background and became a billionaire with a lot of hard work. Kira played music in school and studied hard for scholarship money but ended up coming home after dad's accident. The meet again. She's the girl that got away.

What a great book!! I loved Caleb! He is good, kind and thoughtful. His reaction when Kira showed up in his life again was great! I loved his determination to make sure he got his chance with her this time. He’s a much different person than he was in high school. He is confident and successful, but still vulnerable and humble. He has such a good heart! He really treasured Kira, and it was obvious in his actions.

Kira’s life has turned out very different than she planned. I admired her for pushing forward and dealing with the struggles life had given her. She sacrificed so much for her parents. I really liked her, but she frustrated me a bit when she wouldn’t forgive Caleb. I’m just glad he wouldn’t give up.

This was such a sweet, romantic, touching story. I was swept up in it immediately and just wanted to keep reading. Kira was the girl that got away, and I loved seeing Caleb get a second chance with her.

Romance, clean
This was a cute romance of a crush from long ago, and a high school reunion, and love from afar. Caleb was an interesting character. His friends made for some fun side characters. Kira, not realizing Caleb had had a crush on her ages ago, finds herself attracted to him after they get acquainted at their 10 year HS reunion. There were some cute dates, and fun how both of their pasts gradually were unfolded. They shared bits, and finally all of Caleb and Kira's back stories and 'history' were opened up to each other. They both learned things all the while adventuring as Caleb, romanced Kira. There was some lovely chemistry, but still a clean read. Cute, fun read, as Caleb tries to figure out how to explain his secret, and how to wind her heart, and not just because he was now wealthy, and handsome.
Fun escape, and quick read.

Poor Kira just keeps getting the short end of the stick with one disappointment after another in her life. When everything seems like it’s going wrong, she comes into contact with an old classmate, Caleb, who helps her learn to be herself again. This was such a sweet story! I totally loved Kira and Caleb as a couple! He is so thoughtful, sweet and genuine, having no idea how great he really is. I like books that keep me guessing and this definitely did. I had no idea what the secret was! Once the secret was revealed it was like ‘light bulb’ and everything made sense. Also, I loved the Pemberley Estate moment! It’s a clean romance. I really liked Caleb’s best friends and I hope in the future the author will write some books about them and their ‘ones that got away’.

LOVED THIS ONE! I ended up binge reading it until I could barely keep my eyes open but it was totally worth it! Caleb had a crush on Kira for years. She had no idea he even existed. I grew up in a really small town while I was in a High School it is so weird to me that people go through all 4 years not knowing half their class I knew everyone from all 4 grades haha. Seriously though I loved this story. I loved that things didn't come easy and they had to work at building a relationship. I loved the chemistry they had too. It was worth staying up way to late for. Can't wait to read more from this Author.

I have little to add to that which has been written by so many complementary reviewers. This was a fantastic book from the pen of an author I have only recently discovered. She captured my attention early and kept it until the last page. Great protagonists! The well-developed storyline had enough secrets to add a dimension of mystery. I found the epilog unusual and original. I loved how it gave a glimpse into Kira and Caleb’s HEA for many years. However, I would have liked for the author to have written a sentence or so about how Kira’s parents faired as the years went by.

Great second chance romance

Kira and Caleb are not where they expected to be 10 years out of high school, but when they run into each other again they both get a second chance at their dreams. This was a fun read, but also at times a difficult one for me as it hit really close to home. Life throws us curve balls, but with faith and the right partner we can get through them. This book touches on some hard facts of Life, but it also gives you hope for the future.

Great Sweet Romance

I loved Caleb and Kira's story! He fell in love with her in high school and finally finds her after ten years. Kira has a tough life, but she is making it work. I love how strong she is! I also loved that it wasn't a huge problem, just a little one. I can't wait to read the next one!

The Executive’s Secret: A Secret Billionaire Romance Book 2 is by Kimberley Montpetit. This romance is so sweet and realistic. It is one of the few romances involving billionaires that I have read which is feasible. The writing is great and the emotions just come through in the reading. You find yourself laughing and then crying at the next sentence. The feelings of inadequacy in high school is so very truly related. Feeling on the outside looking in and feeling not as good as others is something that an adult should never have to relive; but a high school reunion is one such place to go and feel those feelings. No matter how old you get, those feelings come back when you enter the high school cafeteria.
When executive Caleb Davenport returned from overseas this time, he was hit with jet lag and just wanted to go home and sleep. However, he had contacted his core group and arranged a meeting at Rossi’s restaurant. He had been thinking of “the girl that got away” not realizing that his friends were all thinking the same thing. Caleb had it all but what he wanted most, a family. He also wanted to return a necklace he had picked up their senior year when it broke and she lost it; but the opportunity had never come. So, he carried it with him at all times just in case he ever met up with her. That night, he was shocked to see that their waitress was none other then Kim Bancroft, the girl he has searched for.
Kim was already beat and she still had to work. When she came to the table where Thomas and his friends sat, she was surprised to see the latter. They recognized her as they had been talking about their upcoming high school reunion. She wasn’t sure she wasn’t being pranked. However, as the night wore on, she felt she had to be in a real world though she couldn’t feel I. She promised the five that she would go to the reunion and save dances for all of them. Now, despite the problems at home and with her three brothers not helping, the last thing she needs is a billionaire to prank her.
Will Caleb get what he wants? Will Megan have enough energy to move heaven and earth to get Caleb

Everyone has high school crushes, but Caleb Davenport never got over his crush on Kira Bancroft. Caleb had a rough time in high school, acting out over his situation at home, and getting into trouble, but he's spent the last 10 years building his start up company and now it's worth millions, yet he still thinks about Kira and wonders where she is. Kira had dreams of going to Juilliard to become a concert pianist, but her dad's accident sent those dreams crashing just like the car that crashed into her dad and put him in a wheelchair. Now she's waiting tables at an upscale restaurant to pay her bills and try to help her parents. After a long flight back home, Caleb and his friends, who are also his business partners, go out to eat and he's shocked to see that Kira is their waitress. She doesn't recognize any of them, especially Caleb. He takes this opportunity to ask her to meet them at their 10 year high school reunion, he's definitely not letting Kira get away again.

I really liked Caleb--he's kind, generous, and completely swoony. He had a rough life in high school, but turned himself around and now has a company that helps people. He wasn't going to let Kira slip out of his life again. It must've been really hard for him to confess his secret to her and then have her say she didn't want to see him again.

I thought Kira was really selfless to give up her dream and move back home to help take care of her dad. I did think she kind of overreacted a little when Caleb confessed his secret to her. I was happy when she came to her senses and realized that. Caleb is a great guy and she'd be foolish to let him get away.

I listened to the audiobook and liked the narrator. She helped get me into the story and kept my attention as I do other things while listening to books.

The Executive’s Secret is a delightful, heartfelt journey into a world where second chances and long-lost love collide. Montpetit does a fantastic job building up the romance between Caleb Davenport, a billionaire with a mysterious, vulnerable side, and Kira Bancroft, a hardworking waitress whose life took an unexpected turn. Caleb's story isn’t the typical billionaire narrative—his modest roots and emotional complexity make him feel real and surprisingly relatable.

The story takes on added depth as Kira and Caleb reunite under unexpected circumstances, with their high school past adding layers of nostalgia and unresolved feelings. Kira’s character is wonderfully written; she’s resilient, kind-hearted, and burdened with responsibilities that add weight to her decisions. Watching her navigate Caleb’s re-entry into her life was a pleasure, filled with touching and funny moments that kept me invested in their story.

This book explores forgiveness, self-worth, and the courage to embrace love again. Montpetit’s writing style is fluid and engaging, with just the right balance of romance, humor, and heartfelt emotion. If you’re looking for a sweet, uplifting romance with rich characters and a little mystery, The Executive’s Secret is worth the read!

The Executive's Secret
A Secret Billionaire Romance, Book 2
By: Kimberley Montpetit
Narrated by: Stephanie Nemeth-Parker

High school reunions can bring out the most surprises in people. Kira was a promising pianist who's path went from Juliard to taking care of her ailing father. Caleb was the school nerd, the one who kept to himself and now is a successful business owner. His crush on Kira has lasted for years. She's he one who got away. Will these two find their happily ever after? With secrets, pride and love, we will listen to see! Kimberly Montpetit writes the most interesting characters. Using the arts is one of my favorite things, and Kira's talent playing piano is wonderful. It's even better that Caleb recognizes her dreams. Caleb is truly a remarkable man. He has had it tough, but broken and rebuilt he is amazing. It's the secret he keeps that may be his undoing. This is a beautiful, easy listen and I am looking forward to the next!

Stephanie Nemeth-Parker is a gem. She narrates with emotion, and has a great variety of voices, easy to distinguish and enjoyable. She brought this story to life.

This was a sweet story about what I would call a retelling of the ugly duckling story. The executive (Caleb), was a teenager that was straggly and unkempt. Long unwashed hair, used clothing and caught up in the computer programming scene. Kira went with the more popular crowed but was still relatively unknown and was totally caught up in her music. Caleb noticed her though and followed her from afar hopping to someday get to know her better. One night at one of Kira's concerts he makes a decision that ends up effecting what happens in the future, because then he has a secret and he takes it with him into his adult life. When they run into each other as adults Caleb finds that he is still completely fascinated by her and she begins to notice him, but doesn't recognize him because he is now a swan and she can't take her eyes off of him. Their story is sweet and was fun to read. I loved the characters and all their flaws and realness. I loved the happy ending! Such a great read!

Second in the series, but could be read as a stand alone, since there were no reoccurring characters. Caleb was a sweetie, though I wish I could get more of his POV and not only 2 short segments. This was a cute story, a little fairy-talish. Kira's life is difficult with sick parents and her dreams lost. But she is so generous and giving. And she deserves every good thing that comes her way with Caleb stepping in her life and hoping for a chance to love her.
P.S. Since Troy was an intriguing character, it was interesting that his story is in Book 6 in the series, The Fiance's Secret
Narrative: 3rd person following Kira and a couple of times Caleb
Religion: none
Sensuality: clean

I was fortunate to hear a free audio version of this on Youtube. I wish it had more than one narrator, but I'm just spoiled by Audible, the reading is great.

So this is one of those "The One That Got Away" sort of stories. This succesful tech billionaire used to have a big crush on a girl in high school, but he though she was completely out of his league, and he has a dark secret. Now he's back in town, and she never left. Their high school reunion and a serendipitous meet brings them back together, and this time he is determined not to let her go.

I loved it. it's sweet, romantic, respectful, funny. And while there is a bit of a Cinderella story, it is mostly very realistic. Recommended

It was good overall I guess

I'm a first time reader of Ms. Monster's books. I really enjoyed the beginning and even her writing style was refreshing. But somewhere along the way the main character, Kira, became a whiny child who wasn't grown up enough for her age to have a real discussion. After that it seemed both characters were doomed to extreme drama and emotion. I know story lines have to have a challenge or two before the happily ever after but it just seemed a little extreme to me. Overall it was an ok book though. However, I'm not sure it was enough to entice me to read another of her books...

In high school Kira was up and Caleb was down.
Ten years later, Caleb is far higher than Kira ever was, and Kira is not as down as Caleb was --not by a long way -- but she has her heartbreak to live with.
Caleb can return her great-grandmother's necklace that he found after she lost it the night of her senior solo, but he can't bring back her father's mobility.
For him, seeing her again is a dream come true. She can't even remember seeing him before.
A good romance with no evil past woman for him or past man for her. Just their own past and their own present.
Recommended for all readers of good romance.
