Leader of the Pack
Very few things ruffle K-9 trainer Liam Kilcannon. Stoic and steady, he has the patience and skill to transform a harmless puppy into a highly protective “schutzhund,” and the quiet strength to lead his five younger siblings through the storms of life. A former Marine who doesn’t waste words or squander emotions, Liam is also a man who very much wanted to spend his life with one special woman by his side. He found her… and lost her. And Liam won’t ever let himself slide down the Andi Rivers Slippery Slope to Misery again. But when his father tells him Andi’s house has been broken into, he doesn’t hesitate to offer her his beloved protection dog, a decision that will put them in close and constant contact.
Architect and single mom Andi Rivers knows nothing in life is certain, having first-hand experience with unexpected changes and tragedies that upended her world. Determined to protect her deeply shy little boy from another heartache, she’s vowed to stay single and unattached no matter how long and lonely her nights might be. Hesitant to take Liam’s dog at first, she soon changes her mind when an estranged relative launches a campaign to take custody of little Christian. A dog won’t be enough…Andi needs a family to protect her son. When the Kilcannon family moves into action, the solution they offer is drastic but perfect. Liam and Jag are there to protect Andi’s home and child…but what will protect their hearts from the risk of falling in love – and failing – one last time?
The Dogfather Series Daniel Kilcannon is known as “The Dogfather” for a reason. It’s not just his renowned skills as a veterinarian, his tremendous love of dogs, or the fact that he has turned his homestead in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains into a world class dog training and rescue facility. Just ask his six grown children who run Waterford Farm for him, and they’ll tell you that their father’s nickname is due to his uncanny ability to pull a few strings to get what he wants. And what he wants is for his four sons and two daughters to find the kind of life-changing love he had with his dearly departed wife, Annie. This old dog has a few new tricks…and he’ll use them to see his pack all settled into their happily ever afters!

About the Author Roxanne St. Claire is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of fifty romance and suspense novels. In addition to being a nine-time nominee and one-time winner of the prestigious RITA™ Award for the best in romance writing, Roxanne’s novels have also won the National Reader’s Choice Award for best romantic suspense four times, as well as many others industry awards. She lives in Florida with her husband, and still attempts to run the lives of her teenage daughter and 20-something son. She loves dogs, books, chocolate, and wine, but not always in that order.
I don’t know about you, but when I check out an author's bio, it’s usually because I’ve read a book I liked and wondered about the person behind it. Let's skip the formal bio and I'll give you the inside scoop on who Roxanne St. Claire really is.
First of all, call me Rocki. Everyone does. Evidently, when my mother brought me home from the hospital I seemed too scrawny and small to pull off “Roxanne” (she’d read Cyrano de Bergerac while pregnant or I would have been Judy) so they called me Rocki.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest of five (overachievers, every one), and fell in love with words and stories the summer I read Gone With The Wind. That year, for my twelfth birthday, my parents gave me a typewriter (with italic font – it was the coolest thing) and from that day on, I’ve had my fingers on a keyboard, pounding out love stories for fun. My AP English teacher taught me the two most important lessons an aspiring author ever needs: 1) verbs are the key to life and 2) a writer should get a real job. After attending UCLA and graduating with a degree in communications, I tried acting and television broadcasting. Oh, they aren’t real jobs? I learned that the hard way. I changed my last name from Zink to St. Claire because a news producer told me Roxanne Zink had too many harsh consonants for a TV personality – apparently Katie Couric didn’t get the memo. I got some fun gigs, and even met Tom Hanks when I did a guest appearance on Bosom Buddies. I liked on camera work, but wasn’t too crazy about starvation, so I moved to Boston and got that “real” job. In fact, I placed my foot on the bottom rung of the corporate ladder and didn’t look down until I’d climbed all the way up to the level of Senior Vice President at the world’s largest public relations firm. On the way up, I met the man of my dreams in an elevator. Two years later – in the same elevator! – he asked me to marry him and I wisely said yes.
I stayed in PR, moved to Miami, had a few babies, lost my home in a hurricane, built another one a few hours north and all along, I kept writing my “stories” for fun. One night, I read a particularly fabulous romance novel that changed my life for good. That night, I decided I wanted to make someone else feel as whole and happy as that author made me feel. (Everyone asks! It was Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.) With two small children and one big “real” job, writing my first novel wasn’t easy, but I did finish a manuscript that managed to get the attention of a literary agent. She told me to do one thing and one thing fast: write another book. (The first one is usually a “learner” book, honestly.) That second manuscript sold to Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books and was released in 2003 as Tropical Getaway. Since then, I’ve written almost thirty more, in multiple genres, and long ago replaced the corporate ladder with the rollercoaster of publishing as a full-time novelist. Finally, writing is my real job.
Today, I live in a small beach community in Florida with my husband and two dogs. Our kids are off to college and law school, which means my nest is empty! I spend my time writing, working with the kids at my church, enjoying my husband's gourmet cooking, and hanging with my many writer friends. Of course, I love to read. I’m still crazy about words and stories and hope to write at least a hundred books in my lifetime. And, yes, verbs are the key to life. My favorites? Love. Work. Believe.
At almost 40 years old, Liam Kilcannon is the oldest child of Daniel Kilcannon. Liam is a former marine who now handles the K-9 training of the dogs at Waterford Farm, along with the elite schutzhund training. The family has always joked that Liam likes dogs better than people! Liam doesn't show much emotions and the one time he let his walls down and thought he found "the one", his heart was crushed into a million pieces when she left him for the father of her son who recently showed back up.
Andi Rivers was falling in love with Liam when all of a sudden Jeff Scott, the father of her son, came back into their lives wanting to be a father. Even though Andi was never in love with Jeff, she decided to give him a chance. Now it has been two years since Jeff was killed in a car accident and Andi has her sights on Liam. Being a single, working mom, Andi is just looking for some "fun" time, but when Liam realizes that is all that Andi wants he turns her down because he really wants more....MUCH more. Andi's afraid to bring another man into her 6 year old son Christian's life because he was so affected when he lost his father that she couldn't bear her son going through that hurt again.
When someone breaks into Andi's house, Daniel Kilcannon "Dogfather's" his way into getting Liam to convince Andi that she needs a dog for protection. Liam's current trainee, Jag would be perfect. Jag hasn't quite reached full schutzhund level training but he is close and he would be perfect for the job. When an estranged relative shows up, informing Andi that Christian will be inheriting 6 million dollars because Jeff's mother has passed away, the relative also informs Andi that she will be fighting for adoption of the child. This bit of news spooks Andi to the point that she looks to Liam for help. This is where the fun begins!!!!!
The entire Kilcannon group bands together in their over-the-top, laugh out loud ways and by the end of their plan, it looks like Andi and Liam are going to get married because it would help the adoption case. Of course, Liam would do anything for Andi, even going so far as to pretend to be in love wanting to quickly get married. As Liam and Andi start to spend more time together, the pretending doesn't seem so hard anymore. When danger starts lurking around Andi's house, Liam and Jag are at the ready. It was really interesting to see how these types of dogs are trained to behave. After a great "didn't see that one coming" reveal, all hell breaks loose.
This was such a great romance of second chances with a really great little mystery added in. I really liked Andi. She was such a hard working, single mom that you just couldn't help but wish that her and Liam get back together. And I really just adored Liam. He was one of these quiet, silent types who you think really don't have many emotions, but you quickly realize that he is just exploding with emotions. The scene with his dad in his dad's bedroom was sooooo emotional and I just loved it. Overall another awesome story with such a great, fun family!
Liam and Jag stole my heart! Liam, the oldest of the Dogfather’s children, knows true love when he finds it. He’s quiet and stoic, but his love runs deep. When he’s reunited with Andi, he knows his heart could easily be broken again. After all, she is too afraid to love because she doesn’t want her son to be hurt if things go wrong—or away—like Christian’s father. Of course, when someone threatens Andi and her son, Liam and the whole Kilcannon family circle the wagons to protect them, even though Liam knows Andi is a threat to his heart. I fell in love with Liam and with the protection dog he trained, Jag. Christian naturally falls in love as well, and as the story unfolds, its hard not to cry tears of joy at the deep love Liam has for Andi and Christian. Christian is a shy little boy, but Jag brings him out of his shell and they both help teach Andi to love and trust again. This is a book that’s hard to put down. The best I’ve read all summer!
Each book in St. Claire's new series continues to open up an entirely new and fascinating look into the lives of each of the Kilcannon Clan.
In "Leader of the Pack", I got to thoroughly enjoy the oldest in the clan, Liam, who specializes in training dogs for highly skilled protection duties having formerly been a military dog trainer while he was in the Marines. In this particular story, I fell in love with not only the trainer but also his faithful German Shepherd named Jag.
The leader/hero in this story, Liam, is 100% focused on the beautiful Andi Rivers whose sole focus is her young six year old son, Christian. Andi is an independent, architect and single parent since the tragic death of Christian's father that left him traumatized and extremely shy. Andi has vowed to protect him from suffering any more tragedy if at all possible. And if that means remaining a single parent until he's an adult, she's prepared to lead a very lonely, single life.
Just as Liam and Andi are reacquainted strange things begin to happen. Andi and Christian's safety and happy lives are threatened when their home is broken into. The Kilcannon family surrounds them with a ring of love and protection such that Andi has never experienced. Liam and Andi are forced into close proximity when Liam insists that they keep his beloved protection dog, Jag, at the house for extra security. Both Andi and Christian will need extra training in order to handle a specialized dog like Jag.
As the danger escalates, so does the relationship between Andi and Liam. But will it last after the danger is passed?! Or will she go back to her vow of being solely focused on that of a single parent?
Plenty of heartwarming moments that will pull at your heartstrings. Another exciting, and climactic ending that has a thrilling plot twist near the end!! You definitely will love this 3rd installment in The Dogfather Series!
Loved this series and this was emotional, funny, heartwarming. Add a little suspense. This book had it all and then some. Ms. St. Claire won me over big time in this book. A shy boy and a dog who brought him out of his shell. A women and a man all brought together by unforeseen events.
Liam Kilcannon was in sense The leader of the Pack. He provided a special training which was done in German. He was broken when one Andi Rivers left him.
Andi Rivers main concern was her son Christian. After his father died she would not allow another man into there life. Well until she needed help. Liam was there for her and Christian. Along with his dog Jag. Trained to protect.
What Liam's dad The DogFather suggested in other to protect Andi and Christian was just plan crazy. To both there surprise someone else thought it was a great idea.
LOVED this story! The characters were so wonderful and seeing Liam and Andi get their second chance was amazing. Liam is just wonderful. Quiet, a bit introverted, totally dedicated. Andi is just as dedicated to her young son. Liam and Andi had dated before when her son's father came back to town and Andi decided she needed to give him a chance. Now Liam has a second chance and nothing is going to stop him from getting the life he's always wanted.
A beautiful story and one you don't want to miss. I highly recommend it.
Oh no! A nasty, selfish woman threatens to take away Andi's son. Because of a huge trust fund!
That was my reaction when reading this remarkable contemporary romance. We can't have bad things happen in a romance! But of course, as in real life, unexpected complications occur. The best thing about romance fiction? You know the happy ever after will be strong and promising. And it's so worth it here. I admit, once or twice I was impatient with Andi, the heroine. She's turning him down again? Such agony and heartbreak for the hero! But oh, after a few tears, and craziness this book became the "ahhh, sigh" romance moment. I can't wait for the next one! I Love this author's delivery, and emotional enheartening.
The below is from the six year old Christian - he has an idea. Jag is his dog. Excerpt: “I have an idea!” They threw a glance at each other, both aware that she’d just asked Liam for an idea, but he had a feeling Christian’s wasn’t going to help them. “What is it?” she asked. “You two should get married!” They both stared in stunned, shocked silence. “Then Jag would never leave!” He beamed at them, throwing up two hands like it was so obvious, how did these two clueless adults not see that? “Married.” Andi croaked the word and turned to Liam, her color high. “Imagine that.” Liam had. Every damn day since he met her. “I think that’s the best idea I’ve heard in a long time,” he said. “Yay!” Christian made a wobbly little turn and smacked right into Jag, giving him a huge hug. “It was Jag’s idea, really. He never wants to leave.” Off the two of them went, leaving Andi and Liam speechless.” Excerpt From: Roxanne St. Claire. “Leader of the Pack.”
I guess I gravitate to the strong silent type - love Liam! He is such a strong character, with the most tender heart, that you will love him. This is Liam Kilcannon’s and Andy Rivers’ story with Andi’s son Christian thrown in to melt your heart more. I won’t say their road to an HEA is easy however I was not expecting the dramatic ups and downs. Grandma Finney is still a hoot. Can’t wait to jump into the next book in this series.
I have to admit that I don’t often share my favorite characters from an entire series (or ongoing), but the truth is that Liam captured my heart in previous stories and his own was just the perfect chance to dive into this honorable, determined and yes, lovable man. Liam is one of those men, like his father, who met their “right one” and knew very quickly that she was the one and only woman for them. Unfortunately, Andi was unable to return that feeling just as quickly. As a single parent her first priority was her son, Christian. When her son’s father came back into the picture suddenly wanting to be a part of their son’s life, well Andi gave him that chance… and walked away from Liam. Heartbreak is not a good feeling, but Liam understood, even though it hurt like nothing he’s ever known. When Jeff died in an accident Liam thought maybe he had a chance… but now Andi was firmly cocooned in her need to not take chances, that everything changes and you can trust nothing to remain constant… except her devotion to her son. He didn’t push, even when there was a chance for something – Liam wants it all and isn’t willing to settle f or less.
When Andi and Christian are threatened by one of Jeff’s family members Liam is there providing not only his own skills but his security trained dog, Jag as well. Soon it becomes obvious that drastic measures are going to be needed. As expected the entire Kilcannon family sets out to protect and provide an answer for Andi. One she’s not too thrilled with, but it just might work.
Leader of the Pack describes Liam so perfectly. The eldest, the leader of the elite training, and the man who is the closest copy of his beloved father. You’d have to work really hard not to like Liam. It took me much longer to warm up to Andi. As a single parent myself, I “got” where she was coming from but there comes a time when you’ve seen all the evidence of what a right for you kind of man Liam is and she’s still wanting certainty and guarantees. There are no guarantees in life, sad but true. So I enjoyed their romance but I was definitely team Liam on this one.
The base story is awesome, the continuing bantering and loving of the entire Kilcannon family adds a special touch to each story There are twists and turns on this one and perhaps things you won’t see until you’re hit with them. It makes for a powerful story, a chance for Liam to show Andi what their possibilities are… and it will capture your emotions.. I loved this story and I cannot wait to dive into the next in line.
I’ve never met a Roxanne St. Claire book that I didn’t love or at the least really like, and Leader of the Pack is no exception to that. If you love Romance and dogs, then you should be enjoying this series yourself. You’ll be hooked. I’d recommend this one for any Romance reader who enjoys complex stories, believable, realistic characters and those adorable pups no matter their age.
Ex-marine Liam Kilcannon is the eldest out of the six Kilcannon children. He specializes in training German Shepherds for high-protection guard dogs. Liam offers his dog-trainee Jag when he hears about the break-in at Andi River’s home. When Andi’s problems become even more serious, he steps forward to help her. Liam hates the sham his family cooked up to protect Andi and her six-year-old son. Can Liam convince Andi to take a chance with them as a couple? Or will other circumstances stand in their way?
Andrea “Andi” River owns an architectural firm in Bitter Bark, North Carolina. She also teaches an adult-education class on European architecture at a local college. Andi’s world is turned upside down when her deceased boyfriend’s sister appears at her door and threatens to obtain custody of her six-year-old son. Andrea runs to the only people in Bitter Bark who can help with her dilemma, the Kilcannons. Liam’s father, The Dogfather, proposes a marriage to thwart the custody scheme. Will Liam and Andi’s charade become truth? Or will Andi’s ex-boyfriend’s shady past disrupt any possibility of a happy future?
Liam is every woman’s dream. He is a man who says much with few words. Others see his silence as antisocial, which is very far off the mark. Liam is the very epitome of the idiom “still waters run deep”. He feels more at ease near and around dogs than people. However, I adore the patience Liam shows to Andi’s six-year-old son Christian, recognizing some of his issues in the boy. I like how Christian always comes first to him, no matter the situation. However, what I love the most about Liam is his silent perseverance with Andi, waiting for her feelings for them as a couple to blossom.
Andi is a hard-working single mother who fully commits to her son. I admire the sacrifices she makes for Christian’s sake, even forgoing her own wants and needs. Occasionally, I did want to throttle Andi for not accepting a terrific man, who pretty much shows his love with actions. Yet, I can understand her hesitation. A mother’s worry and concern for her child is an instinct no woman can turn off. I like how Andi knew the right person and family to run to when trouble arose.
LEADER OF THE PACK is book three in Roxanne St. Claire’s charming, canine-oriented contemporary series, THE DOGFATHER. Foremost, I love that a dachshund is mentioned in the story, even though its part is small. I adore the sweet friendship that crops up between Jag and Christian. The German Shepherd and his six-year-old human make the story complete, especially how he coaxes Christian out of his shy shell.
LEADER OF THE PACK is an emotive and heartwarming story of two people receiving another chance at having their happily-ever-after. I cannot wait for the next Kilcannon to find their matrimonial match in the upcoming book. - courtesy of Romance Junkies
Liam Kilcannon is a glutton for punishment. He's loved Andi Rivers since he laid eyes on her. The K-9 trainer at the family business he's tough and stable on the outside. On the inside he's soft and squishy. He's looking for a love like his parents had and thinks Andi is the one. Unfortunately after only a month of dating the father of her 6 year old son stepped back into the picture and she ended them. Three years later Andi needs his help but her heart is still holding up a stop sign any time he gets close. I really am enjoying this series and the big family of Kilcannon's too. I loved both Liam and Andi and Andi's little boy Christian. Liam and his protection dog Jag open shy and sweet Christian up and he's like a new kid. When you think there is only one bad guy in this story you might be surprised when the bigger picture opens up. I really wanted to Andi to get a clue about Liam sooner than she did. The back and forth was started to get to me by the end. I loved seeing all the secondary characters woven in and out of the story. The author wraps this up wonderfully and i was so happy with the Epilogue. This has been one of those series you get comfortable reading because you know you're going to enjoy every book.
What a sweet, romantic, delicious, funny and cute book this is! "Leader of the Pack" is #3 in The Dogfather series and it presents the readers with a cute couple, in whick my dear Liam is the main male character. Since book 1 I was curious about this Kilcannon character and longed for his story. I love Liam! He's introvert but in a sweet way and I adore his attitude. Andy is perfect for him, no doubt but I'll admit I had some rough time with her at the beginning because she had that way of wanting only sex but nothing more from Liam and Liam suffered because he loved Andy and lost her before for the father of her child and I hated seeing Liam suffer more. But everything got on track and I made my peace with Andy.
Christian, Andy's son and Jag, Liam's dog, were the sweetest part of this book. It was such a joy to see these two getting along!
Close to the end Roxanne St. Claire included a bit of action that was so thrilling! It was quite unexpected.
I was very anxious for Liam's book, yes I was, but the next book, Molly's, promises to be a great emotion and I'm anxious to read it.

Good Lord, the feels. Rocki pulled out ALL the stops with Leader of the Pack: A swoon-worthy hero, a determined heroine, a precious six-year-old boy, and a protective pupper who stole everyone’s heart. Including mine!
I’m sure you know by now that I’m a huge fan of Rocki’s work. Yet I still go into each new book wondering how she’ll manage to top the last romance. And I’m here to tell you that Liam and Andi’s epic journey is my favorite of the series so far. (Although goodness knows that may change with her next book, LOL!) There was just something about how good and kind, protective and caring Liam was that swept me off my feet right along with Andi. I totally understood where he was coming from, being rather introverted myself when I’m in a group of people, so I loved his quiet strength. Andi’s son Christian was also shy and I had such a great time watching him open up around Liam–and then with Jag, or Jaggerman, as Christian called his new BFF. Read More
As the oldest, a former Marine and now a K-9 trainer in the family business, the role of protector comes naturally to Liam Kilcannon. An other man could hesitate to help a woman in need when said woman broke his heart when she brought their budding romance to an end to reunite with the father of her child, but not Liam. Andi's ex died but she was tactful enough not to come back to Liam after that. When someone break into Andi's house, he offer Jag for protection, one of the German Sheperd he's training. She firstly refuse but finally accept when a relative threaten to take away from her her son's custody. As a result, there's a marriage of convenience but Liam makes it clear that it's not gonna be a real marriage because he wants something serious and not just sex.
I think maybe I just wasn't in a good mood for this book, because I can't find fault with it: it was the most well-rounded of the series plotwise, surprising at times and the characters were great, but I was not able to take a real interest in their story.
What a great addition to the Dogfather series. Ms. St. Claire just keeps adding more and more wonderful male characters to the mix. Liam is such a strong, protective guy. He is just the right guy for Andi, a single mom of a shy little boy, who is being threatened and needs some help. He offers her the dog he has loved and trained to guard. Andi is a very strong person in her own right and is such a protective mom who will do whatever it takes to keep her little boy safe and happy--even turn to Liam's family for a solution to her problem. The solution involves Liam in a way neither of them ever saw coming. It throws them together and mixes them up and makes it very hard to resist their attraction to each other and not act on it. Andi is determined never to trust another man enough to fall in love with him, but Liam and his dog may just be more than she can handle. Will she allow Liam into her life and let him become the leader of her pack?
This is the third book in this fantastic series by Roxanne St. Claire. I have always, always loved her books and she is an automatic one click for me. This series is the Dogfather series and this story is about the oldest son of this Irish family who train K-9 and protective dogs. Liam is a loner in the group and he has one true love, Andi Rivers, a single mom with a 6 year old son. Andi truly thinks she doesn't want to be married so this is a story of trying to find their HEA. The characters were great. I loved Liam and Christian, the 6 year old, but at times, Andi was hard for me to relate to. I wanted her to get on board with the program, but knew that Ms. St. Claire would eventually get us there. The plot was more than just the HEA and made it an interesting story all the way. I received this ARC for an honest review and have to say I honestly loved it.
Jag and Liam are a match made in heaven. Fierce, loyal and irresistible. Protection is embedded deep and when they spot danger, it's full throttle time. I was a goner the minute I saw this dynamic duo in action. Their connection is uncanny, but their love for each other is unbreakable. Sort of like Liam's desire for the woman that stole his heart and walked away. Andi is his biggest regret and his greatest fear. She holds the key to his happiness, but she also is the one woman that can break his heart. Will he risk the challenge to protect the woman he loves? With Leader of the Pack, Ms. St. Claire set out to deliver that warm fuzzy feeling that is hard to describe and impossible to resist. Instant success.
Oh Liam, you've claimed my heart! This big, strong, vulnerable, sweet Marine, sigh.
Andi, girl, you had me hating you there for a bit. You hurt Liam. And not just once!
Thanks Rocki for taking us on another adventure. I think Liam owns just a little bit more of my heart than Gabe! (not part of this series)
I loved reading this story so much! There was heartbreak, sweetness, danger and suspense, all with the added benefit of having Jag and Christian's instant love along with it. Love the twists, I didn't see a couple of them coming! :)
I think this one has been my favourite of the Dogfather series to date.
Received an ARC from the author for honest review.
I really enjoy the dogfather series and Roxanne St. Claire is an amazing writer. I loved Liam in this book, but Andi was not my favorite heroine. I felt like she jerked Liam around too much and he deserved better. Still a good read, but not my favorite of the series.
This is book three of Roxanne St. Claire’s Dogfather Series, the story of the Kilcannon family’s oldest son, Liam, and the woman he has loved for three years, Andi. Liam, a former Marine, is the K-9 trainer at the family business, Waterford Farm in Bitter Bark, NC. He’s formed an attachment to his trainee, Jag, a German Shepherd intended for a place in law enforcement and has a hard time letting him go claiming he’s just not ready yet.
Andi is an architect working in Bitter Bark, NC. for the town’s new tourism program and helping local businesses to make improvements. She dated Liam briefly three years ago but ended the relationship after a month when her son’s father returned to town. She felt it was best for her 6 year old son, Christian, to have his dad in his life. Even though she didn’t love him, they lived together for their son’s sake.
Two years after Christian’s father was killed in a car accident, someone broke into her home and Liam thought it would be a good idea to loan her his dog, Jag. It wasn’t long before Christian and Jag bonded and once again, Liam was in her life. Except she didn’t want another relationship that may end and leave Christian feeling abandoned again. She told herself it was best for her son but found it hard to resist Liam. When her past came calling and threatened to take her son, she allowed Liam back into her life...with certain conditions.
I really enjoyed this book and found Liam one heck of a great guy. I liked Andi but found her to be over the top protective of her son, which I understand, but thought she needed to loosen up and let Liam into her life instead of pushing him away while wanting him at the same time. My favorite guy was Christian. Smart and inquisitive, he is the highlight of this book.
I recommend Leader of the Pack as I do the whole series, especially for all you dog lovers. This is an outstanding series that you will love. Cover photos of this series are not models, but real life guys with their rescues. A portion of the proceeds from the first month’s sales of each book go to the Alaqua Animal Refuge in Roxanne’s home state of Florida. Win-win for readers and pups.
Loved this story of Liam and Andi. Andi broke Liam's heart once but is she willing let him Liam in again. Andi needs protection from her deceased son's father's family so the Kilcannon family offers Jag, the fierce dog the Liam has trained but is it enough to keep them safe.
A heartfelt romance, with the love of the Kilcannon family, a boy with his best friend, Jag and a little suspense will keep you turning the pages. My favorite quote that ties the whole book together, "Once they find their fated mate, they won't settle for less".
I highly recommend this book along with the rest of the Dogfather books. All stand alone but all involve the Kilcannon Clan, love them!!
Liam Kilcannon is an ex marine and expert law enforcement dog trainer at the Kilcannon family training facility. Architect and single Mother Andi Rivers is the one that got away. Liam and Andi were getting to know each other when the father of Andi's son showed up wanting to be part of his sons life. For the sake of her son Andi ends the relationship with Liam. Two years have passed and circumstances force Andi and Liam to spend time together to protect her son. Andi is reluctant to get involved in a relationship because she doesn't want to be hurt and she wants to protect her son from being hurt.
This is the 3rd book in the Dogfather series, the previous 2 books were very good, but each book could be read as a stand alone. This is a story about family and giving love a second chance. There is both romance and suspense in this book. I look forward to the next book in the series. Thank you to the author for an advanced readers copy.
"What I know is Shane calls you Liam's kryptonite."
My is Shane right about his older brother. Liam would do anything to help Andi. He has been training Jag, a Schutzhound, but doesn't feel his training is complete. No matter the offer. That is until his father finds out the woman he lost two years ago had her house broken into. With a little push from the Dogfather Liam knows how to complete Jag's training and keep Andi and Christian safe. Andi has vowed to remain single after her son's father died, leaving Christian heartbroken and shy like never before. Nothing is certain in life, so she refuses to bring another man into her life that could break Christian's heart again. She knows taking Jag means Liam will be around and that reminds her how lonely she is.
The Dogfather books get better with each one. Liam and Andi's story pulled me in from the start. I didn't want to put it down, it was that good. The oldest member of the Kilcannon siblings quickly stole my heart. Definitely an emotional book that touches your heart. It shows how the right dog can help a shy young boy come out of his shell, and how a signal mom will put her child before everything and everyone.
SPOILERS! The story is cute but the only thing I didn’t care for was that Christian was put in danger. I know that he really wasn’t hurt, but it did bother me. But I did enjoy the book and would recommend it.
3.5 Stars Enjoyed the second chance romance. But also struggled with Andi's drawn out issues. I just felt so bad for Liam. But it ended well. And Christian and Jag were adorable.
Definitely one of the better books in this series. Lots of twists and turns and a lot of interesting information on dog training mixed in with the story.
I love these sweet, sexy romances with dogs and sometimes older characters. Liam is near 40. The family connections and the compassionate values are heartwarming.
I love Liam because he is so patient and steadfast. I wasn't so crazy about Andi at first, but by the end of the book, I really liked her. Liam has loved Andi since he first met her. He thought they were moving toward something great when she told him that she was going to get back together with her son's father. Liam being who he is, he stepped aside. Now that her son's father is dead, he has left her alone to mourn, but he really wants her back. She however, only wants a physical relationship because she wants to concentrate on her son and his needs. But, when her son is threatened, she turns to the Kilcannons for help. The Dogfather is only too happy to have Liam help her.
