Have you ever wondered how complicated divorces of parents will affect their children's psyche? Shabri Prasad Singh shows that wonderfully through the life of Amrita Srivastava in this book. The lack of love in the family prompts her to go searching for love outside, which makes her land in trouble multiple times.

When strangers sense that you are deeply disturbed due to family problems, you will become easy targets in front of predators. That is what happens to Amrita, the protagonist in this book. There are indeed some good people who will genuinely try to help you. But there are also many predators out there who are ready to pounce upon sensing your weakness. Sadly, Amrita had to learn about this the hard way. Her mind gets continuously hurt by breakups and the toxic traits shown by her partners. Her father's death, the only person who understood her feelings, makes things more complicated.

After a complete breakdown, she shows the courage to go to a Psychiatrist instead of committing suicide. That was literally the turning point in her life. She found out one of the main reasons for all the suffering in her life was her Borderline personality disorder. We can see how DBT can alter the life of people with BPD in a positive way in this book. Most of the characters in this book are actually influenced by real-life people and are written in a realistic manner that readers can connect with.

This will be a good choice if you are someone suffering from any personality disorder, especially BPD, or if you have someone close to you struggling with this condition.

Borderline by Shabri Prasad Singh is based on physiological and an truly captivating story which dwells with various emotions moreover its a life story of author. In every chapter she made balance with all emotions to move heavy heartily to another chapter. I mean it as novel is that much touchy for me.

Amrita Srivastava, protagonist of the story. A younger kid for her parents succeding her elder sister who was obedient from childhood which is opposite to Amrita. As from younger age she seeks for attention more and create troubles here and there. By then her this nature becomes more obsessed to develop a borderline personality, according to the change in situations Amrita faces as she grew up.

Amrita's love towards his father was most emotional and author described beautifully how a child could affect because of their parents divorce. I had also loved the start as author starts with Einstein's quote, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different results". This quote hyped up my reading interest as blurb itself states half of story now this kind of start all this keep nudging what is inside.

Beyond emotional roller coasters and sentiments, it's a good motivational one how amrita get well after getting addicted to drugs and alcohol post the death of her beloved father. The simple language with good set of vocabulary and also medium paced narration helped to keep connected to the story.

Title is most appropriate one goes well with story and cover which is so attractive and equally reflects the character of protagonist which is strong and overcoming the darks from rehab and treatments.

Overall, Borderline is easily connectable with inspiring and motivating story which have ability to change your perspective towards life. A worth read for sure.

Borderline by Shabri Prasad Singh: More Than A Confession

Borderline by Shabri Prasad Singh is a bold submission. Disclosing your past, including the darker shades of your life is not an easy task. Not even the boldest of the personalities would dare to do so. That too been a patient of one of the complex disorders of mind and psychology. That is how the title of this fictional autobiography originates. The story has everything that a good story should have. Like thrill, suspense, conspiracy, lust, fun, climaxes, But on top of all, it is the element of truth that overtakes all other elements of the story thus making it more interesting. The story forces readers to introspect and intrigue at several junctures with what-if phenomenon. While the story runs on a broader scale thus not losing its rhythm and flow at any moment of time.

In fact, it grips you so much so compelling to finish the book in a single shot. The story also reflects the negative sides of our society. Especially the high society where children get extra freedom, money, and resources to easily put them on the wrong sides like sex and drugs. Is there a direct link between liberty, trust, and loyalty? Increase in one, in my opinion, increases the risk in other. But that is not true in all cases. Exceptions are always there. On both sides. Like Sati, Amrita's elder sister who doesn't deviate to take any extra advantage of any situation, liberty, or money. Above all, I think, it is a matter of self-realization. Holding the hand of ignorance and falling into the trap of wrong paths is one thing. But doing wrong knowing it well is another thing.

That is probably the key difference between the key characters of the story, Amrita, and others. Amrita is a fictional character in the story depicting Amrita's life. Every painting on a blank canvas the mind produces is a result of innocence. The story forces you to go through the realities of life a young girl passes through during her childhood and youth days. Amrita is a case of depression and anxiety. She has a feeling of emptiness and void that never lets her happy. In fact, at times she feels like ending it all. She feels herself in a deep dark black hole that keeps sucking her into it even further and further. This is what Amrita discloses to Dr. Chugh, one of the best psychologists in the world.

The book, Borderline, has many key pointers that hit straight to mind. Like, an excessive need to please people because of a fear of rejection. And in fact, if you have this issue you will tend to do anything for that person. Even keeping your self-esteem on a stake. Sometimes your extreme level of honesty also takes you to the brink of borderline. In fact, under those circumstances, all your emotions go haywire thus creating a high level of imbalance between your body, mind, heart, and soul. And thus you start struggling within and running away from the realities of life. I find a great level of truth and sincerity in Shabri Prasad Singh in bringing out such a strong character like Amrita who never loses hope and keep looking at the positive aspects of life despite falling to the bottom of it.

In fact, Amrita's journey doesn't end there. Rather, it is a fresh beginning of her new journey. Probably bringing this book Borderline was like vomiting out all the negativity the time and circumstances had poured in Shabri's life thus getting her back to the pure state of mind, body, heart, and soul once again. This book is not only on Borderline Personality Disorder though it is written by a victim of that but is a landmark in the history of the treatment of this disorder. A patient with this disorder has become a source of energy and right direction for others is an exemplary case. The credit goes to Shabri, Dr. Sanjay Chugh, and Purnima her counselor.

As a matter of fact, it is Doc (as Shabri calls him) and Purnima, and all other doctors and counselors in this profession, to patiently and strategically treat their patients and get them well to live happily thereafter. Borderline has become a landmark in the history of medicine and psychological disorders.

Borderline is kind of a self - help book and based on real-life incidents. It is the story of a girl named Amrita and her journey of being a borderline personality disorder patient. This book describes the struggle in her life, the pain she has to go through, heartbreaks, betrayal, numerous sufferings and death of loved ones.

Before reading this book I didn't even know such kind of personality disorder exists. That's why I researched lots of stuff about borderline personality disorder before reading the book. This story describes all of the life incidents of Amrita in details which are symptoms of the disorder and can be seen in many people.

Amrita was a different kid since her childhood. She always desires attention and when she didn't get it she tries to pull some stupid stunts so that everyone will pay attention to her. With her growing age, she became a kind of person who expects too much from a relationship and that's why when her parents get the divorce she became very heartbroken. She felt cheated and betrayed. After some time her father sends her out of India to study and there also she fells in love with a guy and when the honeymoon period of her relationship ends the guy dumps her and couldn't take it. At the same time, she loves her father And that became the trigger for her disease. She started begging for that guy to take her back in his life.

The story doesn't end here. In fact, this is just a beginning of the story of a borderline personality disorder patient. After that what happens to her? What more challenges she has to face? What happens to her when she couldn't take everyone's hatred? Everything is described in the book in detail. This book has described each and every event of her life in detail which is enough to make you upset and it forces you to think about other patients who suffer the same disorder.

I have never read this kind of book before so it was a good change for me. I liked reading it.

This is a riveting and well plotted read that every lover of honest and soulful writing will enjoy. - Dr Naresh Thanks

A timely book in the age of anxiety. - Aman Nath

Title -

This book is basically the struggle of a person struggling from Borderline Personality Disorder. It is a story of how she overcomes her problems and eventually changes her approach to life. I don't think they would have been a better title for the book.

Cover -

So when I read the blurb of the book, I wasn't sure what exactly the disorder is. I decided to surf about it on the internet. This is what I came across - People with borderline personality disorder may experience mood swings and display uncertainty about how they see themselves and their role in the world. As a result, their interests and values can change quickly.

Why am I discussing Borderline Personality Disorder under the subject cover? Well this is because the front of shows a woman's face, two same faces to be precise. The first of the clear one whereas another one is somewhat blurred. So much similar to the symptom of the disorder.

Storyline -

With this true life narrative turned fictional, delve into the life and thoughts of Amrita Srivastava.

Harbouring at almost devotional love for her father, and unable to cope with the legal separation of her parents, this is the account of how she is subsequently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and the powerful story of how she eventually overcomes her demons.

Having shifted from Chandigarh to New York to study, Amrita is just about to begin adjust to the new city when her life is thrown into disarray by the death of a father. Acting as a trigger, this event leads to a series of abusive relationships. Forced by a breakdown to leave her studies in New York, she tries to make a new life for herself in Delhi. Unsettled by the continuous changes, Amrita descends into a hard partying lifestyle fuelled by alcohol and drugs.

As the glittering worlds of the protagonist and the author intersect, the book chronicles author Shabri Prasad's fight with Borderline Personality Disorder. Written as a part of her healing process, this is a searing confession about the challenges she faces before finally embarking on the road leading to rehab and therapy.

Calibrating itself to the turning of the mind's endlessly turning machinery, this novel gives one the rare opportunity to see it at work. Life affirming and inspiring, this is at the same time a journey that navigate through the loneliness, heartbreak and intensity of her l approach to life.

Intimate, forceful and raw, Borderline is the catharsis we all need.

Language and writing skills -

Shabri has used words and phrases in a very beautiful way in the entire novel. As Discussed Cherian says, somewheres between a psychological rite of passage tale and an insider's take on a complex disorder... a protagonist diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder is a tale that has not been told.

Narration - The author's way of narrating stories and events is a work which every reader will appreciate.

Portrayal of characters - The author has put up all the characters in a brilliant manner, especially that of Amrita and her father.

Strengths and weaknesses - The mere strength of this story according to me is the story itself.

Author Shabri Prasad Singh has beautifully weaved this fictional book but it is actually inspired by her real life. Borderline is a story of Amrita Srivastava who was born ‘normal’ but with time her ‘normal behavior’ became unacceptable. Amrita like Shabri suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder.

The book is divided into 23 chapters. Her journey has been told from how her parents met to how she is now. If we see Amrita’s story on a timeline then one could divide her journey mainly in 3 parts. First, her struggle with emotions, relations, and emptiness. Then comes a part in her life when she met right set of people who helped her to learn self-love, gave reasons for her emotions and made her understand about all her (un)successful relations. At last, her will to help herself and others like her.

Book Title:
The title of the book ' Borderline' is very unique, new and doesn't give the reader any idea about the story of the book.

Book Cover :
The book cover image is a woman's double face with a grey color all over that sets the mood of the story into a dull mood, indicating pain.

Plot:
The book is a story about a person, her life and many incidents that she faces in the life. The female protagonist faces many challenges since her childhood till she grows up to a woman. As her family often used to movie to places due to her father's job, it was difficult for her to quickly adapt to the new environments.

In the later stages of teenage and early stages of adulthood, few heart wrecking incidents make her mentally weak. To console herself for the personal losses she encountered the extreme steps she has taken are explained in a very good narrative way. The author has also taken good care in showing the measures to be taken when such severe things happen.

The author's real life incidents are the basis for the book's story line.

Borderline by Shabri Prasad Singh is a psychological thriller based on borderline personality disorder. Most of us must be unaware of this disorder, including me, until I read the book.

The story of the book revolves around Amrita Srivastava who suffered from this disease due to the troubles that she had endured in her life right from the childhood. The story begins on a pessimistic and very thrilling note in which the protagonist describes her journey. She had a younger sister too who was entirely the opposite of her. She had a very strong connection with her father. After her father’s death, her life changes entirely. She struggles to survive in the world all alone. Her personality takes shifts to an alcoholic and drug addict character.

The book describes the struggle of a girl who suffers from borderline personality disorder. The way she deals with it is highly motivational. The book carries a deep message of struggling to survive despite all odd circumstances. From the start to the end the book was a package of emotions, suspense and psychology. The title of the book is very apt to the theme. This is a kind of book in which the reader won’t be able to guess the plot until he reads the book. The book holds a very unique concept. Overall, it is a must read book especially for those who have a keen interest in psychology.

Borderline by Shabri Prasad Singh is a psychological thriller which not only entertains but is also quite different from the usual thrillers I've read. The book basically explores the journey of Amrita Srivastava who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. At first I had no clue what this disorder is all about, so I was very much interested in reading the story.

Amrita's childhood, her bonding with her father is described well. It was disheartening to read how her life changes after her father's death. How she becomes a drug addict and an alcoholic.

What I liked about the whole plot is that even though there are many sad elements in this book, when you finish reading it you feel motivated. I enjoyed reading about how she overcomes the struggles and ends up being a better version of herself.

The pace of the story is decent, at times some chapters were quite slow in narration but overall, it kept me glued to it. The language used is simple and the emotional content is written really well.

Overall, Borderline by Shabri Singh would motivate you, make you feel sad and yet encourage to not give up on struggles of your life.

Very well written. The story and emotions are relatable . Loved the tiny bits of poetry at the start of each chapter ! It is a book that makes you think how simple attachment can lead you to path of stagnation and how and why it is important to always hold yourself first . It is about the struggle of the protagonist with her excess emotions and finally acceptance of her situation - borderline personality disorder . Read it to know it :)
To the author : Way to go !

Borderline by Shabri Prasad singh is a real life account, beautifully narrated in a way which will transport you to a fictional world.

The story revolves around the life of Amrita and the series of events which lead to BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER. The first blow of her life comes with the separation of her parents followed by the death of her father . All these incidents completely shatter her and lead her to a life which cannot be imagined without alcohol and drugs.

Will she be able to ever cope up from this depression and lead a normal life ?

Get your copies today to know a story which inspires you a lot .

The cover is unique and attractive . The title is simple and goes well with the story. Though I found the blurb little revealing as it gave fair insight about the story .

The inspiration which the author gave despite so much hardship is worth complimenting . The realistic touch of the plot made me to connect with the book instantly . The story is average paced and the language is simple .
I really liked the bold and strong character of Amrita. Her engaging personality made me hooked to the book till the end.

Overall, a book worth giving a shot .

Borderline is written by Shabri Prasad Singh.

The cover and title both are mysterious and make us ponder what can be its meaning and is highly intriguing thus a great combination.
Coming to the book what facinated me the most is not it's language or its rich vocabulary or even its story, they were surely good at their respective places but the courage and honesty the author has shown while writing the book is the main thing which is commendable. It's never easy to put all the truth of ones life before the world and it takes a lot of courage to do so.
It's the story of a girl who has seen a lot at a very early age and she subjected to intense emotions and situations now and then. It's the story of a girl who despite all the odds was able to survive and became an example to everyone.
It's a nice story but the narration sometimes become very monotonous and the same things repeating makes it laborious to read. Simple language is used which is easy to comprehend.
A good read.

Borderline personality disorder is a mental illness marked by an ongoing pattern of varying moods, self-image, and behavior. These symptoms often result in impulsive actions and problems in relationships. People with borderline personality disorder may experience intense episodes of anger, depression, and anxiety that can last from a few hours to days. (Source: Google)
Some people are so deep in love that they can do anything for their loved ones, even if it is begging for the love, they just have fear of rejection and abandonment. In this, they forget to love themselves, Self-love is what they forget in fulfilling the needs of the other person they love and after rejection or being dumped, they take all the blame on their actions and start hating themselves. The same is with the Centre attraction of the story, Amrita. After tremenduous series of incidents happened in her life and in begging love from other's, she forgot that he has a life too. After many years, she came to know that she is suffering from a syndrome called Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). In the healing process, she faced many challenges and problems.
The story is pure motivation about self-love and how amrita overcomes her loneliness, heartbreaks, discover and heals herself and the intensity of her to approach to life.

Borderline personality disorder has been the theme of many books but Shabri Prasad Singh brings out a fresh perspective to it with an intriguing story, mostly based on reality. It is a woman's emotional journey through the borderline disorder and the emotional upheaval it causes.

Borderline is about the life of Amrita Srivastava. It is the journey of her mentality, her being, and her soul. The book begins with Amrita's backdrop, her birth and family history. It shows the basic settings of a tender close-knit family and how the family breaks apart due to a terrible divorce which impacts Amrita mentally.

Starting right from the book cover, I must tell that it's quite fascinating considering of a lady in black and white shades,it seems like her eyes are shut by a blind fold named borderline and if I go further it's what the story is all about.
This story is based upon the real life of the author, and is able to articulate the problems faced by a borderline personality disorder person.
The story revolves around amrita a bold character indeed, it's about her phase from childhood till adulthood, how much she has to face in between and how she has suffered through BPT. How sometimes life can be so cruel to a human and curse them with such kind of diseases. Perhaps its the self love or will Power only through which one can fight all the demons that keep haunting them.
This book also so boldly describes that wht matters at the end is we love ourselves at the first place.
This book has been written in a reader friendly language and the poems in between the chapter make it more interesting, and also teaches lesson that every soul needs to stand for their own, fight their inner demons and whatever the conditions are make oneself worthy of them all.

A story of sadness, mishaps, misfortunes & depression. Borderline takes you on a journey where the reader experiences pain in every pain while reading & feels it from the central character's perspective. It has been written effectively with enriched localisation & research well oriented with real-life & real-time experiences. The central character experiences borderline personality disorder, a trait & a rare disease contracted only by a few selected unlucky people in the world. Step on this journey of an inspiring person who never gives up against any odd conspiring to take her down. A series of misfortunes triggers a healthy person comatosed with depression which in turn leads to devastating consequences & finally into a split personality disorder.
The book has been written well in accordance to real-life examples with realistic point of view. Language is good. Narration seems intact. Fictional touch has been retained effectively. The book inspires its readers to face the challenges in life head-on without giving up no matter what may have in store for us.

Borderline by Shabri Singh is a semi - autobiographical novel. It's a story worth reading for the writer has suffered for her art- Bad decisions make good stories. I had received an email to review this some time ago but I just got the chance to pick it up. I purchased it on Kindle and finished it in a few hours. Sadly the book does not have "loan a book" option on Kindle, which I would have liked to do. Borderline by Shabri Singh is a half completed story and though not really worth reading, it is worth sharing for the sake of discussion on borderlines. I do wish the author enables the lending option on Kindle.

Shabri bares it down honestly about her life in a semi-fictional way revealing what most people wouldn't - her wild side, in an unapologetic manner. For a story that is this compelling, the story lacked cogency and systematic exposition of her condition, which is the title of the book. Her emotional turmoil is stated factually, but not articulated like a verbose writer may have. The story abruptly ends where she decides to accept the label of a diagnosis, a few pages of definitions, the horrors of quack therapists, her recovery experience in less than a page and after finding a better guide (Dr Sanjay Chugh, who writes a foreword for the novel). As he mentions, since she has the courage to tell her story, it may help in removing the associated stigma. But in order to do so, I sincerely wish she writes more.

The characters and the plot of the novel are both under-developed. For example, she describes the protagonist as a helpless, grown adult, a spoiled girl who has not made a career or life for herself. She explains the background to why things fell apart for her in a descriptive way. Each chapter begins with a little poetry which also happens to be my personal style, I loved it. It says- in the beginning that she is now happily married with three kids however the story abruptly ends even before any of this begins which is an awful let down.

I read cover to cover in a very short time with the curiosity to know how things got better - and that's where the story ends. Amrita Shrivastava has a traumatic past - troubled childhood, marital disharmony at home, abduction and emotionally abusive relationships resulting in obsessive , violent behavior and substance abuse, thereby giving an one-sided view of the character- convincing the reader that she is only borderline and in short, a bad person, nothing else- which is unlikely.
However, I would like more than one point of view- that Amrita was more than merely these phases of life and what she did out of despair was not a key to her character. I would have liked the story to show other sides to her- for instance, she was a very giving partner- cooking and cleaning for her partner and his family in US for nearly two years, caring towards children (her brother Jerry) and a good friend to Sabrina Khan. Only the stories of her emotionally abusive relationships are explained but the good ones are hardly mentioned. Of the ones she mentions, she does seem capable of keeping calm and steady with Pink, who does not harm her self-image. Her caring side was underplayed. Stories of inmates who were institutionalized, like her without her consent, the condition of these places are all worth writing and revealing to the world.

I do wish there was more in it for me in this book, nevertheless, I am very glad I read this book. I do think this story may be one of those I'd have deep conversations about with a closed reading circle.

This story is based upon the real life of the author, and is able to articulate the problems faced by a borderline personality disorder person. It's the story of a girl who has seen a lot at a very early age and she subjected to intense emotions and situations now and then. This book deals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and is written in the most beautiful and simple way. This book is a fictionalized account based on the author’s life.

Some people are so deep in love that they can do anything for their loved ones, but they also do fear of rejection.
Every new chapter had a new story, a new puzzle to solve. The narration is so good and the words and phrases used in the book has been portrayed in a very beautiful way. It's a worth reading book for each and every story book lover.

Borderline is the story of Amrita Singh who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. It's her journey from school days where she has to move to different places because of her father's transfer. every time she learns to adopt change. It is tightly said, Situations that happens in childhood stays in our mind forever. Watching her parents getting Divorced, her mother's affair, Fathers friends misusing his position and His Death. Many such events make Amrita's condition worst. Will she accept every change that life shows? will all past scars heal?

Borderline is a beautiful story, well expressed by the author. The command that the author had in language is amazing. Not too simple, not too fancy just connecting with the audience. The start of the story is too good. Loved how there were short poems and lines at the start of every chapter. Every new chapter had a new story, a new puzzle to solve. I loved Rose and Thorns chapter. This book has various themes like struggle, emotions, emptiness, love, relationships. It's a Journey from Amrita's School life to Graduation to healing. The author also created very strong Personalities. The characters were too strong and each one had their own importance. They added much more to the story. I loved the Father-Daughter relationship expressed by the author. It's Wonderful. It has many points that we face in our daily lives. Fear of rejection, Fear of getting attached emotionally, fear of losing someone, Fear of failure, fear of getting Ignored. The Pace of the story is too good, though lil heavy. The tempo is full of mystery and surprises. Every chapter had its own importance, it's own mystery, a story to be told.

There's a lot to learn from this book.

Shabri left an important message for everyone. what I learned from this book is, Never underestimate anyone, we never know what they are going through. Give time, hear out every person who shares their problem with you, Maybe something good happens.

Strong plot, Astounding characters, Strong command of language makes this book one of the best read.

It's a lil heavy read and one should read it with lil concentration to understand each and every aspect.
One MUST read this book.
