Deep in the Great Smoky Mountains there's a place where fireflies find their perfect mate in a sea of blinking lights. Charlie Darwin wished life could be that easy. A failed writer who frequented the same coffee shop, walked the same city streets, and sought inspiration in a city where none could be found. That all changed the day he met Jayden. A journey across the country with a total stranger to see the firefly mating ritual would change him forever. Fireflies isn't a love story, but it is a story about love. A story about what it's like to leave everything behind, only to discover you never had anything to begin with.
What drew me into the story was the first lines in the first chapter. The author, Jeremy Reed, did a brilliant job at creating an engaging, character-driven story, filled with rich banter between the the main characters. It's easy to see how insightful Mr. Reed is about human behaviour and how we interact with each other. He brought Charles and Jayden alive on these pages, and while I would've loved to have known more back story about Jayden, it was still enough to keep the mystery and the story moving. A profound story about love, what it means, and what people will do for love.
In the beginning the story truly confused me but the more I read the harder it was to put down so I didn't until the very end the end of Jays story and my heart broke along with Charles Ric and Liz. This story was by far the best I've read and can't wait to see what happens in Darwin
