Glenda Harris has not had an easy life. She has suffered through many tragedies and is full of anger. She needs a job, and is persistently seeking employment at Katrina’s Aftermath, a very successful restaurant. She has no restaurant experience, unless you count fast-food, but she is willing to learn. James Boudreaux is part owner and the head chef of Katrina’s Aftermath. He normally doesn’t get involved with the business for the front of the house, his kitchen is his domain. But when his partner, Jackson, is having a hard time choosing a new hostess, James offers to step in. His plan is to let the persistent applicant with no restaurant experience down easy. But when he lays eyes on her for the first time, all other thoughts fly out the window and he hires her on the spot. Glenda and James are as different as night and day. She's older, from a different culture and religion. But James does not care about those differences. He sets out to tame his Creole beauty despite her misgivings. Can Glenda and James move past their differences and find happiness together? Are they strong enough together to have what most people only dream of?
The fourth book in the Katrina Aftermath series also picked up some key people from Haunting Memories (The Spirits of River Oaks Book 3) that play a role in Glenda Harris life. Glenda applies for a hostess job at Katrina Aftermath restaurant, and Jackson Duval, partner with Chef James Boudreaux is having a difficult time deciding between a Louisana resident who has no real restaurant experience, or a newly arrived to the area New Yorker with five years hostess experience. When he insisted that James decides, he was going to tell Glenda he was sorry but the job had been filled, but that was before he saw her standing at the bar and was infatuated at his sight.
Glenda Harris is no stranger to hard work or hard times. Pregnant at thirteen and married shortly after, then widowed at twenty-one, left to raise her son, Glen, alone. She has worked two and sometimes three jobs to provide for her son. Then one fateful night after graduation, a car accident where his girlfriend was driving, and Glen is killed. She believes because Cheryl Zeringue and her family had money, and good friends with the sheriff, they covered up what happened that night. Glenda needs to money to hire an attorney and get a detective involved to open up the records from that night.
James Boudreaux’s life is cooking and making Katrina’s Aftermath a successful restaurant. He has watched his sister, business partner, and all their friends find that someone special in their life. James doesn’t have time to go out and date, so he is married to the job. When the Creole beauty, Glenda Harris, walks into Katrina Aftermath and wanted the hostess job, he gives it to her.
The plot will bring two people who haven’t dated together in an atmosphere where they see each other daily and spend quality time together. When Glenda lets her personal feelings interfere with her professional life, James will take her in the office and punish her, but it turns from a spanking to sex quickly, and this begins a deeper relationship. James may be deaf, but he reads lips, and he has been reading her lips as she spills her story while working in the kitchen. She believes she is just talking out loud to herself, but James becomes aware of her life.
Glenda believes that this tryst with James is just a little fling, which with her being nearly forty-two and him thirty-six, he will tire of her quickly. The more they are together, the more serious he becomes, but she has her doubts. Life and death situations will make him declare that she needs him as her keeper.
Two people, one Cajun, one Creole, one devout Catholic, one backslidden Baptist, and on top of that, she believes she is a cougar since she is older than him. What happens when the unexpected happens? James is determined they will marry, sooner than later, and she believes he will tire of her quickly. What will happen when their two families come together? Is this a disaster in the works or will love overcome everything else?
“Who would have thought a family of diehard Baptist and starch Catholics could merge into one happy family?”
“Once she was a lost soul, bitter with unwarranted hatred, wasting her life on seeking justice that was never to be hers to extract in the first place. Judgment was best left to the Lord, as Father Barely Alive had taught her. Life was for the living, James had shown her. There was nothing she couldn’t face while he stood beside her, guiding her, protecting her, loving her no matter what.”
The story has me laughing out loud so many times that I had tears running down my face. The story takes the reader on a journey of loss, bitterness, wanting revenge, finding answers, seeking forgiveness, moving forward, putting the past behind you, finding love, unexpected blessings, new friends, and accepting that in the end, cultures and races, religion and beliefs are only part of who we are. There are plenty of creative punishments, and explicit sex scenes.
If you haven't read the four books in this series, you are missing such a treat. Ruby has outdone herself with amazing talent for making the reader feel a part of this "family." This latest story of James's & Glenda's relationship had me laughing out loud one minute and tearing up the next. Taming His Creole Beauty, or his attempt to tame her, is entertaining from cover to cover. It was wonderful revisiting all of the colorful characters and imagining being a part of the eclectic "bratty wives club." Katrina's Aftermath, a popular restaurant in New Orleans, is the main venue where most of the girls' antics are created that keep their men and their spanking hands accessible at a moment's notice. I wait with anticipation to see if there will be a book five, which I will purchase the minute it is released. If not, books one through four are worthy of a re-read and will remain in my list of favorites to enjoy again. Thank you, Ruby Caine, for sharing your amazing imagination.
By Donna L Edit Review Delete Review This review is from: Taming His Creole Beauty (Katrina's Aftermath Book 4) (Kindle Edition) This is the fourth book in this series and the hilarity and mayhem continues. It was love at first sight for James Boudreaux when he saw Glenda Harris, she was applying for a job as hostess in his restaurant Katrina Aftermath.Glenda was just as attracted to the deaf, younger chef but knew there was no chance of a future for them.James has other ideas and was determined to have the beautiful women.Tragedy in her past clouded her life. She was determined to uncover the the person responsible for her son's death and see justice done.Like all the men in this series,James has a hard hand and does not hesitate to upend Glenda over his knee when warranted. This is such a well written story that contains many great moments.I hope there is more books to come . I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book
I enjoyed this book as I have the whole series. In addition to our old friends, we have a new main character in Glenda, the beautiful Creole woman James is instantly attracted to. The book explores the difficulties associated with romance between people of different race, culture, religion, age, and hearing ability. I love Glenda's character; she's strong, passionate and determined but with the insecurities of a real woman. James is a wonderful dominant character, who we know is deaf from previous books. In a clever twist, the plot crossed paths with another great series by Ruby Caine, The Spirits of River Oaks. I recommend reading the Katrina's Aftermath series in order.
Taming His Creole Beauty is the fourth book in the Katrina's Aftermath series. It is the first book I read from Ruby Caine and I loved it. She does a very good job at introducing the characters, so you don't need to read the other books first. I didn't feel as if I missed something. I liked Glenda's antics and James' way of dealing with her. There were many scenes that made me laugh out loud, especially scenes with the kids and also what happens when the bratty three are meeting. I absolutely loved reading this book and I look forward to reading the other three books of this series.
I loved this book. It was so witty and touching. There were so many funny moments and laugh-out-loud lines. Glenda has been hurt and is insecure in her relationship with James. She'll take him while she has him, but knows it won't last. James is steady and sure- a great alpha male. It's a complete story and we get to see the "bratty three," their husbands, and some really funny times with their kids. This is a completely enjoyable book. A five star must read! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This book got better as it went on. The beginning I found quite disjointed, like a bunch of sentences just thrown together. However, I'm glad I stuck with it because overall it's a pretty amusing little story. Great, original characters that I didn't think I would like in a situation that provided plenty of wonderful lines. This book ties in nicely with Haunting Memories, book 3 in the authors The Spirits of River Oaks series.
This is an amazing book and not one you will want to lay down until finished. Glenda's life has been defined in tragedy and her anger is left as a result. James meets her and sees her pain and he protects her in every way possible. James is unique that he is deaf and when he gets excited and starts talking he talks very loud. This is a story of True Love with domestic discipline all through it. The ending is quite a surprise.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. I really love this series. This is James' story. He is the chef at Katrina’s Aftermath. He sees Glenda when she comes in to interview as a Hostess and thats it, love. James is deaf and gorgeous. Glenda is older, aching for justice and gorgeous. Different, but together they make sense. Spanking romance
There is lots of erotic action at the Louisiana restaurant, Katrina’s Aftermath. Chef James takes the inexperienced new girl under his wing and knows just how to keep her in line, but the action doesn’t stop there. James’ business partner Jackson keeps the heat level steady when he often takes his naughty wife to the ‘back room.’
I enjoy the Katrina's Aftermath series. James finally found his mate, Glenda. Glenda was a little older than James, but she was as smart and sassy as the other wives.
There are a couple of interesting side stories that occur as James introduces Glenda to DD. This book also had numerous funny moments.
I would recommend this book unless the topic of Domestic Discipline offends you.
Why did the author have to keep referring to the h as Creole or her position? Why not just call her by her name? After being almost 1\2 way through the book, I think everyone knows her name by now and what her position and nationality is. Is this what happens when other that black women try and write about black women????
This was by far the funniest book of this whole series. Between the family members who take over, the bratty wives and even the funny old priests I constantly found myself laughing. I totally love this whole series and would love to read more by this author.
