Kings of Chaos #6

Twist of Fate

Rate this book
Shayne Spencer wasn’t the man of my dreams.

A twist of fate placed us in the confines of my family’s food truck. The attraction between us was a force of nature we couldn’t ignore. The bonds we formed made me believe in forever, and gave me the courage to break free from the chains of tradition.

Then fate took another turn, and I learned Shayne wasn’t who he said he was. Now I’m forced to question everything I thought I knew.

I went on a mission for the Kings of Chaos looking for, redemption and reconciliation with my hate-filled past. What I found was the greatest treasure I never knew I was seeking, Xia Foley. I should never have gotten involved with the brown-skinned woman. My hands are stained with the dirt I’ve done and the choices I made.

Will my past as the reformed son of a racist traitor ruin my chance at creating a future worth living?

Isn't it funny how you can meet someone, take the time to get to know them only to find out you really don't know them after all? That's what Xia had to come to terms with when she fell in love with Shayne. Shayne is trying find himself and along the way he finds Xia. He knows he doesn't deserve her but he'll do anything not just to have her but keep her including sharing with her a past that could ultimately cause him to lose her. But know one ever said finding and keeping love would be easy, right?
Xia and Shayne were kind of thrown together unexpectedly and I wasn't sure these two would click but I'm glad I was wrong. Xia needed some one who encouraged her to be herself and Shayne needed some one to help him realize that he was only responsible for his actions and that he was worthy of forgiveness and second. I loved the fact that Xi was a strong independent woman not looking for some man to come along and rescue her, but instead was just looking for the right man to compliment and support her as she blossomed. I really enjoyed this couple finding themselves through trial and error and in turn finding each other. I give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Okay

This whole book had a plot hole yes he used to be a rasist because of his farther but we learned that in a previous book that he has a black heritage to and it wasn't brought up in this book which I think it should have been. And we hardly saw any of the club in this one so was it a MC book it was on a thin border for the gener

Heroes who used to be racist aren't my cup of tea on the best of days, and this guy still doesn't seem to regret it enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was a harmless racist. People can change, sure, but there's this undertone from Xia's POV like, "When will I ever find someone to love me like he does?"

Like, he's not special in a good way. The prisons have to be over-flowing with bikers and neo-nazis willing to make a change and redeem themselves.

He's literally the runt of the motorcycle club. At 30, his first job is working on a food truck... There's no mention of him having any money at all... And yet somehow, he's so opinionated and domineering when it comes to her... It just made me think of Xia as being extra weak, the way she was treating this guy like he was some manly alpha male man.

The villain of the book is her father who wants the best for her... and all I could do was feel sorry for the man to know that his daughter was secretly running around with an ex racist biker. I couldn't buy him as the villain at all. All he wanted was the best for his daughter and all she wanted was the worst for herself. I don't think she ever had that "Dad, I'm dating a biker who used to be a racist a couple years back" conversation with him. It was all about her needing him to support her without question.

And what is it with food trucks? Xia's father is a chef. Xia's dream in life is to open an a Harry Potter themed food truck? Like, who goes to college to get a degree in food-trucking? To my knowledge, running a food truck is exhausting work. At least half the book is about how demanding running a food truck is, how failure is always lurking around the bend... And she's like, "This is my life goal!"

I'm not saying it has to be all billionaires and social workers all the time, but food-trucking? Food-trucking has to be the most mundane, most boring subplot of all time. I tried not to skip the lengthy details and descriptions but there's a lot.

Bottom line, the heroine is a bit of a narcissist who makes mountains out of very minor things and the hero is a guy who's still trying to adjust to not being a racist. The love story itself, when removed from all the food-trucking business, is good, because for all his flaws, Shayne is self-aware enough to know that most self-respecting black women don't date racists, so the tension in his chapters is enjoyable as he struggles through wanting to tell Xia the truth about himself and wanting to preserve the relationship as is.

This is my review and how I see it. In the sixth book of the Kings of Chaos series, author Shyla Colt explores Charm's story of finding himself and finding love with someone he would not have looked at in the past. So much was revealed about Echo and Charm's father and Charm's remorse at being under his father's influence for so long.

Xia knew that her father was going to provide a food truck for her to make her mark in the family business. She was so wrong, her father had particular beliefs on her role in the family business, and the food truck that she had her heart set on was not to be.

Shayne (Charm) and Xia are falling hard for each other, but each one has a secret one more explosive than the other. Will Xia be able to forgive Charm for what he has not told her? Will Charm get past the secret that Xia is keeping from him and his family? The real question is will Charm ever forgive himself.

This is my review and how I see it.

GgI'm here for BWWM stories. Charm/Shayne and Xia are a very good couple. I read For The Love of Dixie first so I know what an absolute piece of shit Shayne is. I was like wtf kind of Black Woman would want him?? It took me a while but he grew on me. His name *is* Charming. Xia was a little weakly drawn but much, much better than Blanche (from Walk The Line).

The couple needed more sex scenes and Shayne needed to be more aggressive in the bedroom but it was still good and kind of hot. I like this series but I'm only reading the BWWM books. Echo/Joel, Freeze/Jagger, and Charming/Shayne are all basically the same guy, which is cool because he's hot, infinitely fuckable and in love with the BW main character. I'd recommend.

Awesome Read

This book was really great. The interactions between all the characters is what makes it great. The story main focus is on Xia and her relationship with Shayne and it progressed in a great place. Their love wasn't rushed or were they just screwing around. They had a meaningful relationship and I loved it. The story also had an interesting view point for Shayne and Xia so you had a better understanding of their own thoughts and feelings. I loved how the plot included Xia' relationship with her family and their own drama .the same could be said about shayne and Xia's family, reveling in how no one has a picture perfect family.

Charm has completely charmed me

OMG I think I say this about all of Shyla Colt's books. I have been waiting for this story. I was worried about what would happen to Charm after the KOC had to do what they did to Mouth. I like the dynamic between Xia and Shayne (Charm). Shyla dealt well with his demons as well as her demons. I was worried if I would get the HEA but I knew the Shyla would not let me down. Once agai. She dealt others a difficult subject matter where all parties were able to be vulnerable and transparent. Another great storyline ok so whose next

Enjoyable.

Smoother than the other books in the series. I wonder why the author creates such a difficult path to understanding racism on the part of the h character? In the meantime, the path to acceptance of bigotry is much easier on the H character? I do not think it works that way even in fantasyland. I think the author needs to stop creating inauthentic angst, when in reality, the difficulty of an interracial relationship creates an abundance of angst and drama. Even so, this was an enjoyable read.

The Substance of Things Hoped For

Reading this novel breathes hope into my fledgling dreams of true love, romance and marriage. I’ve been devastated by men and have tried to strangle my own heart’s yearning. But still, like air, my craving for the kind of connection Shyla Colt has written between Shayne and Xia rises. Sigh. The authenticity of dialogue, plot, character, and setting tantalizes and satisfies on a deep level. I feel like this is not pure fantasy; this reads like realistic fiction for sure!

Great read. The struggle is real and for whatever reason each character has a different way of defining real. Interesting interactions and support systems. Xia and Shayne the two main characters struggle and support each other through a few challenges while they try and develop a relationship. A five star read for the inprint that parents place on their children, and the struggle that the children go through to stand.

Twist Of Fate

I really thought these two wouldn't have made it, with Shayne's secrets from the past blew up in his face, I said to myself yup that's it he's done. But you don't know what life can throw at you, Shayne redeemed himself for him and his love with friends and family there's no way they wouldn't fly together.

Love or hate

Loved how these two turns both their lives around and make a great couple, and the start of a good business. Shayne needed to stop hating himself for what his father did. Sure he took part, but he followed blindly because he idolized his Dad. They both needed to learn that parents are people too and they're not perfect.

Good entry to the series.

I loved the characters, especially Jasmine, but it was a little predictable. Also, the poor editing threw me out of the story more than once. That being said, I will definitely read the next one!

xia for the win

As much as I’ve loved all the KOC books and heroines, Xia is my favorite so far. She’s nerdy, loves books, Sailor Moon, Star Trek and all things geek yet she had the inner strength to help Charm step into the man he became. Absolutely loved it. #cillasbookmaniacs

Both Shayne and Xia had to get over their past to deal with the present to get a clear future. They both were so focused.
