In this second installment of The Dancing Wolf, Kayla and her girls get a heavy dose of the trials of the real world, homophobia, and love. Transitioning from a monogamous relationship to a family of four is only the beginning for Kayla and her girls. In order to abandon their college dorms to move in together, the foursome must now face the world and their families. Can Madison’s homophobic parents accept their relationship? Will Kayla’s hidden love for Awenasa cause her family to crumble? Creating a home together may destroy them, or open up the doors of immeasurable beauty and joy.
Amy DeMeritt is an author of Sapphic romance and an occasional poet. She is a lover of the arts, coffee and tea, a day of sitting on the beach watching the waves crashing against the shore, and good books and music to get lost in. (A good thunderstorm is one of her favorite forms of music.)
Amy takes inspiration from every experience in life and gives her imagination full reign to take a small detail and expand it into an intricate tale. Weaving experience, interests, and even pushing the boundaries of personal comfort, Amy’s stories take a reader on a journey of varying emotions and the joys and trials of love, romance, and growing as an individual, all of which are embodied in an entertaining plot with complex characters.
I think you *might* get away with not reading book 1 first, but I really don't recommend it. Book 1 lays a lot of ground work for this. I absolutely. Without question. Loved this book. Even more than book 1 and I thought it was fantastic. The feels... oh god the feels. Top it off with an absolute perfect ending. Le Sigh. I think Kayla is becoming one of my *all time* favorite characters.
After reading the first book I decided not to read anymore of the series, but I also thought Kayla had a strange fascination. I actually downloaded the first two books together, so this book was there, waiting for me. I kept looking at the book and asking myself should I give the series another chance.
I still struggled with this book, but then it suddenly has moments when I think yes I could get to like this series. I think my problem was there are no shades of grey in this story, everything is black and white and emotions are all turned up to ‘eleven’. This manifests as bouts of uncontrolled violence, then there are the relationships that can be so sweet and sentimental it is almost nauseating. These moments are usually followed by mass sex sessions. I think what I missed was the ‘ordinary’.
However the final ‘fly in the ointment’ was the recurring references to the mythical ‘Awenasa’, I really didn’t get this part of the story and Kayla’s revelations about her were enough to make me give up. Talk about ‘having your cake and eating it’.
I got through the book by skip reading past the bits I didn’t enjoy, this meant that for over half the book I would have given one star, but a few bits were probably worth four. If possible I would have given 1.5 stars.
This is the second book in the very well written Dancing Wolf series. The well developed characters from book 1 continue to fight negativity pummeling them from so many different directions, keeping the storyline flowing from the pages and right into your heart. This second installment in the series ratchets up the drama even more than the first one. I could not put this book aside, reading the entire book in one sitting.
Can this story get any more beautiful? Kayla, Awenasa, Sam, Madison, and Shannon continue to tug at every string of my heart. I will hope for love, Iight, and laughter to continue for them all.
Its unique & captivating storyline, spectacular in its complexity, fluidity & intensity creates a very compelling & entertaining book. With a nice flowing effortless progression, engaging narrative incorporating such formidably vulnerable & passionately flawed characters made it an easy read.
Continuing with a good, entertaining story with interesting characters & hot sex scenes extremely well written… your only thought is—What's gonna come next?
