The Old World And America tells the story of the Western World from the beginning of mankind--through Greek and Roman civilization, the coming of Christ and founding of the Catholic Church, the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and the discovery and exploration of America, the "New World". An excellent resource for Catholic homeschoolers.
We used this for our home-school history. I really enjoyed the way the book is arranged with short sections in each chapter, nice illustrations and questions at the end of the chapters. I ordered it for middle school history, but found it could be enjoyed by anyone from age 10-adult.
This book of history was written in 1937. It was so interesting and useful to me to read and finally put together all the disjointed information I had learned in school. I also learned a lot of new things even if it is put simply for school aged readers. A work of world history chronologically assembled like this is so valuable, though obviously it must pick and choose what to include. The book is written heavily around the Christian religion, and has some antiquated ways of referring to “uncivilized” cultures (any nonbelievers.)
